HIlLCREST WELLNESS CAFE
48 Malingap Street, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City
Life is not merely to be alive, but to be well. Hillcrest Wellness Cafe is the first of its kind to fuse good food and beverage with wellness. It aims to nourish the body, the mind and the soul.
Operated by Pastor Reuel Tica, Hillcrest Wellness Cafe CEO, with Mr. Hans Gideon Cerdenia and Mr. Vince Revo Dungca who run the operations and human resource development, this newly opened, yet fast-gaining popularity coffee shop along Malingap St. in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City, is a haven for health buffs and an oasis for tranquility-seekers away from that usual MSG, carbs, glucose and transfat overloads and from that accustomed noise of commercial diners in the metropolis. The name, Hillcrest, was conceived in honor of the church in Indiana, USA which sponsored the TIcas for US Citizenship. Ergo! The word is very apt, too, to equate with coffee. As a derivative of summit, a peak, a mountain, the name is linked to where its finest Typica-Arabica coffee beans come from, the highest ranges up north, to support the local coffee industry.
Each healthy pastas, crepes and sandwiches is being prepared from the well-researched, exquisite organic ingredients, infused with love and prayers by its dedicated, positively motivated and smiling staff, and is creatively served in a plating-ala-chef. The favourite of the house, the Chicken Pesto, is an al dente Linguine with generous coating of Pesto sauce that is undeniably freshly mixed, creating a garlic(ky) taste with a little kick on the buds, a creamy texture with Parmesan cheese and virgin olive oil, and a savoury tang with the strong herb taste from the ground basil leaves. It is garnished with Romaine and is topped with crispy on the outside yet tender, juicy on the inside, pepper-spiced, grilled white chicken meat. Definitely, no artificial flavourings added.
Its teas, frappes, shakes and juices are all from natural, organic sources and are blended with healthy additives such as malunggay (Moringa oleifera), ginger, and other antioxidants and heath boosters. Even the water this cafe uses is alkaline, known to act as an antioxidant, scavenging for and neutralizing harmful free radicals. Its coffee is uniquely concocted whereby it's the only cafe that distinctly prepares a brew with a stove-top Australian percolator to retain its aroma and flavour and to reduce acidity of the coffee mix. Its signature coffee blend, the Coco Macchiato, is a rich Typica-Arabica with skimmed milk as its frothy whip, laced with coconut syrup.
The cozy ambience with earth colored, cushioned sofas and seats paired with wooden tabletops, soft cove lights, poster of smiling, happy, vibrant youths on one wall, and that dominant wall scribbled with 112 inspirational quotes are food for the thoughts. There's, also, a bookshelf filled with powerful, enriching titles for private reading inside the cafe. Soft Christian music continuously plays that soothes the mind and is really conducive for relaxation.
For enrichment of the spirit, the cafe gives its enthusiasts an opportunity to share. With every purchase made, a part of the proceeds would go to helping out orphanages, charities, community ministries, and victims of natural disasters. Its walls are open for displays of artworks for a cause. Currently hanged as of press time are paintings and mixed media arts of Japanese and Filipino artists participating in the art exhibit, dubbed as Tabang Katawhan, an art + relief for Yolanda Survivors. This is for the benefit of the victims of said typhoon.
