The restaurant is situated in a quiet street in Tomas Morato. We went on a weekday evening and we're the only ones in the restaurant, which is a shame because the food is superb. We had the Cacio E Pepe Mushroom Truffle and Il Naufrago, which are both very good. The service is excellent; the staff are nice and attentive, and we didn't wait too long for the food to arrive. The interior is ok; it gives a slight reminiscence of being in Europe. Price is also ok especially since there's Zomato gold.

Will definitely come back and recommend this place.

The pasta and unlimited wine options both tasted great. The cannoli dessert was pretty but the taste of the pastry itself was just okay and they got one of our orders wrong. There were items on the menu that I wanted but weren’t available. Experiencing the dessert that you use a hammer to break was fun but a word of warning, the process is loud. It is fun though.
Overall, this restaurant is definitely worth the try and the price is surprisingly affordable for the quality you get. Will definitely come back :)

Good Service, great food.. dont let the place put you you off because the food is excellent. My son told me somehow, the place looks depressing.. maybe we’re just used to be in a good vibe place, but after dinner he said, looks can be so decieving because he enjoyed everything we ordered. My husband enjoyed his meal too. Happy days.

My friends and I could hardly hear each other primarily because the two girls in the next table thought shouting is the best way to have a conversation in a bistro/bar. Otherwise, the experience would have been great. The restaurant was full but the two servers we had upstairs were quite efficient and attentive. Everything we ordered tasted great....from the appetizers to desserts. I liked the jamon serrano croquettes. The osso bucco in particular was very tender & flavorful...I wish it had more risotto though. Pasta was perfectly al dente....cacio e pepe for the win!

Their Sausage Platter consist of Bratwurst, Hungarian and Kielbasa goes very well with the sweet mustard sauce. Cacio E. Pepe Mushroom truffle Pasta was good. The pasta was cooked al dente. The Greek Salad is overpriced at 400php..quite disappointing with very small servings and few toppers as well. The beef shank in Osso Buco was very tender and flavorful top on risotto (highly recommended), The slice of Porkchop is thick in creamy mustard sauce and mashed potatoes (one of their bestsellers) and finally the Spanish Hot Churro with cinnamon sugar and chocolate dip is superb.

I appreciate the cool setting despite the scorching heat of lunchtimes. Don't leave without having Schneballen! Sweets-lover or not, the experience of smashing your dessert is a worthy experience and also kinda therapeutic. Service is great and we ate here with Zomato Gold perks so our wallets are thankful.

The food was amazing! You won't find food like these anywhere else in Manila. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the pork chop tasted great.
Their dessert -- the German Schneballen -- was one-of-a-kind, and it was not too sweet. The experience of smashing the Schneballen was fun too!
Finally, our waiter, Bong, was very nice and accomodating. I can't wait to come back! :)

Great place for a European meal. We loved our dishes: Arancini Al Margherita is an excellent appetizer of risotto balls stuffed with mozzarella and pesto and served in Margherita sauce.

Pesto di Basilico is a good Spaghetti dish with excellent pesto sauce paired with really good pesto chicken breast.

Mon Cheri Poulet is a very good dish of Chicken Thigh braised with red wine and topped on spanish omelet with a rasher of smoked bacon.

Signature Hot Chocolate is superb with smooth, rich chocolate topped with milk.

Ambiance is ok and service is so-so, but the food is top class.

I finally got to visit this restau! Been curious for quite some time already. It’s mostly cause of their beautiful desserts. It’s a shame though that there was no giandiuotto when I visited. It’s the main attraction in Vanderlust’s Zomato page. But still super happy with the dining experience. Great service! The female staff asked me immediately if I wanted cold/warm water.
Ordered pork chop, pesto and (interesting) schneeballe
The pork chop was tasty. I found the mashed potato too salty. I’m happy with how different their take on pesto it but was still so good (a bit too salty but tastes good). The schneeballe was a first for me. I was expecting it to be creamy and to have ice cream texture but it was anything but that. It’s hard like a biscuit so you’d have to put it in a bag and use a mallet to smash it. Really interesting like this restau as a whole!

Always a pleasure going here to work and write instead of crowded coffee shops. It's a quaint, cozy bistro with good coffee/wine. Make sure to order their arancini al margherita, which are super flavorful italian risotto balls! And while you're at it, go ahead and order six pieces of these balls cause three is not enough.

Service-wise, staff is very attentive even though there's only a couple of servers and a few people in the kitchen.

One of the best places to eat if you wish to try European cuisine. Their Mon Cheri Poulet is a must try - sweet and savory chicken with honey glazed bacon strips and omelet. Something that you'll definitely come back for. Unfortunately, their schweinekotelett wasn't available. The Il Naufrago is also nice if you're up to herbed chicken breasts with rich marinara sauce.

Their Jamon Serrano is also very rich in flavor - a perfect appetizer. It could have been much better if there was manchego cheese.

The interiors of the restaurant are classy and sophisticated. The staff are also very accommodating and courteous. They ensured that the needs of the customers are met. Will definitely return to try their other dishes.

By the name itself it’ll catch your attention and definitely you’ll try to check it out.

Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We tried their Espaguetis con Chorizo and Bocadillo de Calamares y Pescado.
The pasta is good, rich in flavor and there’s an option if you like your food with a twist of spicyness.

The Bocadillo’s sauce has a unique taste of lemon which compliments the squid.

Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Has a taste of art and the personalized tile with their logo that caught my attention.
Cozy and comfy.

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
They only have 2 crews but it didn’t compromise the quality of service.

What we ordered:
- Sopa de Tomapepino (PHP 278 for sharing) (5 🌟) - they use sun ripened tomatoes which results in a strong kick, complemented with cool cucumber cubes
- Cacio e Pepe Mushroom Truffle (PHP 398) (5 🌟) I love their Truffle pasta - you really taste the Truffle but it isn't overwhelming
- Osso Buco Milanese (PHP 618) (4 🌟) : they ran out of risotto so they replaced the risotto with spaghetti instead. It was a bit weird, but I appreciated the gesture. The Osso Buco flavor itself was good - you can taste the white wine, and the short rub itself was pretty tender. For unhealthy people, this dish also comes with bone marrow yum!
- Il Tricalore (PHP 688) (4 🌟) - Almond crusted salmon which was expertly cooked. Again, they ran out of risotto and replaced it with... Lettuce
- Butcher's Steak with Blue Cheese and Potato Gratin (PHP 648) (4 🌟) : we asked for medium done, but it tasted more like medium well. Still, I thought the steak was really tasty and I loved the blue cheese sauce! They ran out of potato though so our potato Gratin was replaced with... Lettuce
- German Schneballen - cookies & cream (PHP 165) (1 🌟) : I felt pretty disappointed coz Vanderlust is famous for their Schneballen. But, I thought it was pretty blah and definitely wouldn't order it again

Overall, Vanderlust has amazing dishes, expertly cooked using premium ingredients. Verdict? I'd definitely return not just for the food, but also for the topnotch service :) best of all, Vanderlust is part of Zomato Gold so we managed to get the Butcher's Steak and Truffle Pasta for free!

Ambience:

The restaurant is a small space so if the other customers are noisy, you will definitely hear them. There were a bunch of crying children but thankfully they left shortly after we arrived. Another note is that when someone orders the dessert that you have to smash, the whole restaurant will notice and it can be startling to suddenly hear loud hammering noises.

Parking can be a pain since it is located in a tight and small street with virtually no parking space, but luckily we found a spot quickly.

Service:

The service staff was very helpful and fast. They offered to introduce the menu to my table as it was the first time we were dining in the restaurant.

Food:

The food was delicious and was unique. Not a lot of restaurants I've encountered offered European food in a similar price range. The food was plated really nicely and it helped make the food look good in both photos and in person. Taste-wise, it wasn't exactly mind blowing but it was executed well and there wasn't any problems encountered.

Value for money:

The portion sizes were somewhat small considering the steep price (especially the almomd encrusted fish) but honestly it didn't detract from the overall experience.

The restaurant is good to try but the bill can get pretty pricey if you come in hungry and order a lot of food. I would come back.

Vanderlust deserves a 5-star for continuously standing out and staying consistent in the resto-congested Tomas/Timog area 👏🏽

Vanderlust is no secret especially to QC residents and Tomas/Timog frequenters. They've been here for a while and happy to say they are still holding their own, with great service and unpretentious, well-made, value for money food.

I've dined here a handful of times the past years but have only gone to frequent again thanks to the Zomato Gold partnership. Had their Butcher's steak - a generous treat at only P648 (plus get 1 dish free if you're on Zomato Gold!). The good serving of steak is cooked a proper medium. Splashed with a nice sweet tangy sauce, but the highlight is the pop of blue-cheese butter in every other bite. The sharp musky flavor goes so well with the natural meaty flavors and contrasts the rich butter that balances the whole bite all together. Not to mention, the creamy potato gratin is yummy by itself and is perfect to accompany the steak.

On other visits I've also sampled their Gambas, some of the pastas, the sausage platter, and other appetizers. And what I can say is that they are definitely a seasoned establishment with how they are consistent in quality - you can taste the ingredients are fresh, and their recipes show confidence in the ingredients too. Feels like they are sure with their identity. Not a thing out of place. Highly recommend for a lunch date, dinner date, for a good sit down meal with good drinks and long talks.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

I had their Il Tricolore— which was an almond- crusted salmon with pesto risotto. The serving was GENEROUS, and it tasted really, really delicious. The pesto risotto tasted so heavenly that I would order another serving of it if I could!

My friend got their Osso Buco— a plain risotto topped with beef and a chunk of bone marrow. I didn't get much taste of it since I was digging in my plate of salmon but oh he finished it clean!

The appetizer, which was a trio of sausages (I forgot what it's called) was also really delish. It came with a mustard dip and some sauerkraut.

Plating was done beautifully with the short service time. Plus, the waitress was kind and attentive. Will definitely come back!

Ordered Arancini ala Maghertia, Butcher’s Steak with Blue Cheese and Potato Gratin and Osso Buco Milanese. The steak was bland and I can’t see where the blue cheese went. They didn’t have potato gratin so they changed it to mashed potato and I loved their mashed! Tastes like home. Their short ribs was okay, sorta tasted like mechado. But my most favorite part here was their risotto, whether it be in the aracini or in their short ribs, both were REALLY good! I’d probably come back solely for their risotto!

The Schneeballen is okay, it is a bit too sweet for me so I guess it is good for 2-3 people. The truffle pasta is good, creamy and the size is reasonable for the price. Limited parking space, but the staff are very accommodating and assisted me to park. It is hard to call for staff if you seated on the second floor. Maybe they should have a bell or something. Overall experience is nice. Will definitely go back!

Vanderlust (pronounced as wanderlust) is a restaurant with European theme in their menu. The restaurant and the name were inspired by the food adventure of the couple who owned the place.

Me and my friend both are Zomato Gold members and we got to use both our Gold perks.

I ordered the glazed chicken and she ordered pork on gravy. The cooking took awhile and we were hungry but the kind staff gave us tomato soup, on the house, so we could wait awhile longer. The soup was hot, creamy and taste good.

When the food came, we shared it. The pork was in big portion. Good for a single person but can also be for sharing. It was soft enough and the gravy complemented the meat.

The glazed chicken was good for single serving. It was boneless breast chicken with sweet taste because of the glaze —,just how I liked it. The omelet was a good partner too. Fluffy and creamy.

And then the dessert. It’s called Scheebälle. The only way to eat it is to smash it first because the outer chocolate-covered crust is very hard. The server showed us how to do it. When it’s smashed, the pieces were hard crust with soft cream of flavored custard. I liked it. And it’s for sharing.

The place has few tables on the ground floor but more on the mezzanine. We went there for lunch and the place was a little musty. It probably has been a Tomas Morato resto for some time. Most of the older ones have these distinct smell.

What gives this place an edge is the very friendly staff. The server took time to explain the menu and share stories about the place and its background.

I was a newly registered member on Zomato Gold and was itching to use it as soon as possible. I was out with my friends and I thought to myself, what are the restaurants on my to-try list AND is a partner on Zomato Gold? It didn't take much browsing and we ended up in Vanderlust.

Asking what their bestsellers are, we were immediately suggested to order Cacio E Pepe Mushroom Truffle and Schweinekotelett with Mustard Cream Sauce. The cream of the Cacio E Pepe Mushroom Truffle pasta was enough to perfectly balance out the strong truffle taste. The pork chop was wasn't dry and the crispy pork skin was indeed cooked to crackling perfection. We also had their Osso Buco Milanese. The meat was so tender that it almost fell off the bone. My friends didn't like the marrow but knowing me, loving every thing fatty, loved it.

We've already finished all the dishes but we were in limbo between "still hungry" or "already full" so to balance it out, we ordered their Bocadillo de Calamares y Pescado for a light finish. The calamari was cooked to golden perfection and it went well with the zesty aioli it was served with.

After we were REALLY finished eating, we were too full to have anything else, which was a waste because the main reason that attracted me to Vanderlust in the first place were their desserts. Doesn't matter, though, it just gives me a reason to go back and try their other dishes AND desserts.

Finally got to visit Vanderlust. Food was so good - ordered the Cacio E Pepe Mushroom Truffle for pasta & Butcher’s Steak with Blue Cheese and Potato Gratin for some protein.

The truffle pasta was perfectly cooked - pasta’s al dente, the mushroom’s tasty and the creamy sauce has a right amount of truffle; I just find the serving too small for its price.

For the steak that was cooked in medium-rare doneness, it was so tender, I just want to add more salt but it was sooo good already!!

There’s still much more to try and would definitely come back.

Recently, I've been exploring more of the restaurants in Tomas Morato / Timog area, since there are plenty of interesting stand-alone restaurants here in this area. In fact, even before the proliferation of restaurants in the Maginhawa / Teachers Village area, Tomas Morato has already had a steady stream of good restaurants, with a wide range of cuisines to choose from.

I spent one Saturday afternoon last December with two of my high school best friends in a restaurant we've never visited before. Thanks to Zomato Gold, we got a free dish during our visit! ❤️ The prices can be a bit steep, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Here are the dishes we ordered for our late lunch - early dinner that day:

✅ SOPA DE TOMAPEPINO (Php 278 - For Sharing) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was recommended by our server, saying its ingredients are unique and it does not taste like your usual tomato soup. And boy, he wasn't lying! Since they used sun ripened tomatoes, the taste is very potent and rich. It is then balanced out by fresh cucumber cubes, making it a refreshing appetizer to have.

✅ ESPAGUETIS CON ALBÓNDIGAS (Php 328) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This pasta dish can either be served in tomato sauce or olive oil, and we chose the latter. We wanted to fully taste the components, and having it with tomato sauce might mask its flavor. The Spanish meatballs were packed with so much flavor, and having it spicy makes it doubly yummy. 💖 Pasta was al dente, and we enjoyed the bountiful toppings.

✅ IL TRICOLORE (Php 688) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is an almond crusted salmon, served with fresh pesto risotto and cherry tomatoes. I love how thick the cut of salmon was, and the freshness is very much evident with the firmness of the meat. The flavorful pesto risotto paired well with the salmon, too! This dish looks so good and tastes even better. 😍

✅ BUTCHER'S STEAK WITH BLEU CHEESE AND POTATO GRATIN (Php 648) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had this dish for free because of Zomato Gold! 💖💖💖 Super sulit! When it was served, we initially thought the steak might be a bit tough, but the "butcher's cut" was indeed really tender! No wonder the price is quite premium. Though we requested for medium rare doneness, we thought it was already a medium. It still tasted good, though! We enjoyed the bleu cheese butter it was slathered with, and though the potato gratin was unavailable, they exchanged it for potato wedges and it was still a perfect match. 😍

We ended our meal with two desserts for sharing:

✅ PICK ME UP (Php 215) - ⭐⭐⭐
During our visit, this cake has only been launched in Vanderlust three days prior -- so in true millennial FOMO fashion, we decided to give it a try. It was actually just okay. The size of the cake is good for around 2 to 3 people already. It is similar to a cheesecake x tiramisu, but instead of having the flavors mixed together, they had their own layers. 😅 The outside cheese layer tasted too similar to Arla Cheese Spread in gelatin form, so it was slightly milky and on the salty side. On the other hand, the tiramisu cake inside was too soaked for me, as in it tasted like the cake fell into a pot of coffee. The texture wasn't what I was looking for, but tastewise, it wasn't that bad. I think they can still improve this! 😄

✅ HAZELNUT KISS GERMAN SCHNEBALLE (Php 165) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Of course, we didn't want to leave without trying out one of their signature desserts, the schneballe! ❤️ It is a German term for snowball, and is made up of shortcrust pastry. We were so excited to try it because it is a very unique dessert that we have never seen elsewhere. Once the schneballe is served, they will give you a paper bag and a mallet. First, place the schneballe inside the paperbag, and smash to your heart's content! 😁 When you get the desired sizes, you may tear open the paper bag and serve. Hazelnut Kiss tastes like a huge ball of Ferrero Rocher, with a cookie-like crust and a rich, chocolatey center. We loved it, and the experience made it even more special. 😄

In general, the food was really good and unique! 😋 We really enjoyed this visit. Aside from the good food, the ambiance was really nice, perfect for date nights and girl night outs. 🤗 A special shoutout to our awesome server, Von, for being so eager in explaining and introducing their dishes to us. He was also very attentive, and our glasses were never empty. Delicious food, nice ambiance, and impeccable service... The bill was worth it. 😁😍

Their pasta was great and the ambiance is perfect for people who just want to chill. Their churros are crisp and their dips are okay. Their place is a little bit small so it is recommended to try and book in advance.

Went here for dinner with my family on my birthday! Vanderlust Bistro is a fairly compact place with a lively vibe. I'd advice you to book a table first before going there because it can get easily crowded, or maybe its just the holidays. The staff were very nice and accommodating. The food we ordered was satisfying, although the service may be quite slow, but definitely not a problem. I like how limited their menu is, as opposed to having a lot of options because for me, you know your food will be good since they're only specialising on those.

Would recommend.

Late review: Their pasta and appetizer plate are delicious. Their mushroom pasta is perhaps one of the best I've eaten so far. The only thing I can really comment negatively on is the steak. Quite tough, seems like the roasting process was shortened and forced.

Vanderlust Bistro offers various German and European food. We didn’t get to order appetizers because we were still full from lunch. We only tried this place because we wanted to try their wine-all-you-can. I was surprised that they offer Zomato Gold 1+1 on food as well. We tried the Butcher’s Steak and Schweinekotelett (Pork Chop). Food was good and tasty and the ambiance is nice. However, street parking was difficult, but I would still go back to try their other dishes.

We loved the food and the service was impeccae. We had the butcher’s steak and osso bucco. I highly recommend the Gianduiotto (chocolate and hazelnut dessert)! It ws delicious and not too sweet. I would’ve given 5 stars, but I gave 4 because the bathroom smelled really bad. Otherwise, it was a great experience. We will definitely come back.
