Timeless restaurant that still offers quality and one of the best oyster rockerfeller! They have maintained it’s recipe and although parking is scarce, they are also one of the few establishements along tomas morato that offers valet service! The crowd inside are mostly business and those old time clients who patronizes Mario’s throughout the years!

The best beef salpicao and ceasars salad! The iced coffee was simply great! Walang ibang sikat na coffee shop ang tatalo. Favorite resto of the titos and titas of Manila. The reason why they are still around despite the mushrooming of new restos.

Classy and Elegant
The place at first would feel so much pricey and expensive but as soon as you enter the doors it is homey and classy.
The serving size of the food was ok and the taste of the food was superb. They also offer some bread rolls while waiting which were tasty. I had the seafood soup and salmon and both were designed uniquely and delicious.
I also liked the dessert which was tiramisu cake and it was also fine!

Perfect for tapa lovers. Though i fail to try their infamous tapang usa, i tried naman the batangas beef tapa, which is the best tapa i have tasted. Its a little bit pricey but its worth the food naman, so its fine.

Went here with my dad one time and we had a buffet. The food was great. I loved the rockefeller oysters and turkey. The place was really cozy and intimate yet still being social. We would rather have ordered meals from the menu, but we didn't know the buffet was optional. Still great, though.

The food is great but valued reasonably. Our lunch was sumptuous with the “Marinera”, their famous seafood paella and Pot Roast Beef.

The place is nice and with private room for luncheon meeting, but with a required minimum consumable rate.

Tried their branch in Baguio City which looked so simple but at the same time elegant. I love the ambiance of the place. The servers were accommodating and nice. We tried their buffet which was kind of pricey since there were only a few choices but it was worth it. There was risotto, steak and other exquisite food that I was only able to taste for the first time. Must try. Ps: I love their steak!💙💙💙

Seafood Pasta
Gambas
Pot Roast Beef
Oysters Rockefeller
Paella Valenciana

CONSISTENTLY GREAT SERVICE!!! These are hotel grade waiters, ladies and gentlemen! And what a restaurant should feel like!

Dishes are actually AFFORDABLE and good value for money. Outlier pricey ones are just the steaks which are good but I'm no steak lover. But my Panda love, loves their steak. He has been faithful to their steak for more than a decade now! And it seems like their steaks are just as faithful in quality and consistency.

Great place for dates or family celebrations and special occasions. A very special and memorable place with good live piano music.

Although I'd recommend getting dessert elsewhere. And be warned that being in this area of the city, parking is a nightmare!!!

You can never go wrong with their Caesar Salad and Steak choices. The onion rings topped on the steak was real good. The all-time favorite Calamari was crunchy and tasteful. We just love the food from this fine restaurant.

Mario's in Baguio has always been one of my favorite restaurants, so logically I would want to try it here as well. And when I did, I was not disappointed. The place may seem old-fashioned compared to the more modern fine dining restaurants, but that does not take away from the elegance and cleanliness of the interiors. It really does look and feel "old-school", but I think it;s quite charming. Service is great as well. Upon ordering your food, you will be served a generous amount of bread while waiting. It would be a letdown if there were so many good things about the place but the food would suck, good thing though that here, the food was excellent. Their paella valenciana for me remains to be the standard of paella valenciana anywhere; it's cooked well, the toppings are generous, and the flavor is rich. Just thinking about it makes me want it now. Other dishes like their chicken and callos are also good, but if your'e looking for the best paella in the metro, I would recommend this place. Considering the quality of the food, the ambiance of the place, and the service, their prices are just fair.

When you want a really good paella valenciana, go to Mario’s. When you want a really good paella negra, go to Calderon. They never fail to please our palate!
We also had their fillet mignon which was really good because it was cooked to our preference. Oh and we loved the truffle pasta too!

Celebrated my Graduation Dinner at this restaurant. The place appears to be fancy. I loved the paintings/pictures hanged on the wall and the spanish era vibe. We ordered the pomello salad, their paella valenciana, calamares, puttanesca pasta and a steak meal which i forgot what name it was called (sorry). We also ordered wine which was soothing and had a taste of their white wine as well. Overall experience was terrific. There was nothing not great about the food we've ordered. Their service was also pleasing and hospitable. The place is truly great for celebrations and family gatherings.

Note: These photos were taken from Mario’s Baguio.
In photos: Oyster rockefeller, a la pobre, filet mignon, paella, mango and strawberry jubillee

Mario’s steaks are what people usually come back for, and that’s absolutely one of the right reasons. I personally enjoy their desserts — cakes and crepes but their jubillee will always be my fave. Always a pleasure watching how their jubillees are prepared. The fruits are so infused with lots of flavors.

We enjoyed their Sunday buffet lunch before so when my husband asked me where i want to eat for my birthday, Mario's was one of my choices. We order oyster rockefeller - sooooo yummy! 😋😋😋 I licked all the sauce from the shell when no one was looking. Clam chowder- i found this not worth it because it was so little and so so lang. Corned beef- yummy but with umay level. Steak and prawn thermidor- love the thermidor 😘 My son finished all his carbonara and wants to go back again- no need for words. Mango jubilee- too sweet for me but it was the tableside production that makes it fun. It takes you back to 90s tagalog film of sharon cuneta eating dinner with her papa 😜
Pricey - yes
Good service- yes up to kuya at the parking!

If you’re anywhere near Tomas Morato, don’t miss out on Mario’s. This restaurant is a charming landmark epitomizing refined and upscale Filipino-Spanish cuisine. Prices are a bit steep but fair given the quality of food and our overall experience.

We had their Soup of the Day (PhP 120) which was cream of spinach and celery. It’s a thick, rich, and wholesome soup that’s accompanied by the complimentary basket of hearty bread with butter. It was enough to satiate our animated-ogre hunger for about half an hour.

Paella Valenciana (PhP 735) is a vibrant mix of seafood, chicken, pork and sausage. And indeed, it was worth waiting for. The rice grains were evenly cooked and tender throughout. The sweet, briny flavor of the shellfish and shrimps shone through the dish, and we enjoyed the contrasting meatiness of the pork and sausage. It’s a party dish and a great comfort food, everything in one perfect pot, aromatic and delicious all at once.

Chef’s Specials which we’d like to try next time include the Gambas Con Choriza Pasta (PhP 390), Tenderloin Steak (PhP 690), Steak and Prawn Thermidore (PHp 815), and Angus Rib-Eye USDA Prime Grade Steak (PhP 1995).

Food 4/5; ambiance 4/5; service 4/5; price 4/5. After several years i came back and the place looks good. Thank God it is much brighter inside and looks refurbished. Food was good, though my steak was more medium rare than medium. Onion soup was a bit thick but tasted good, baked oysters seemed a few hours off, but rest of rhe food in general was good and the servings were generous. Place was also pretty packed.

I tried their Steak Bearnaise, medium. The sauce was great but the tenderloin itself wasn't well-seasoned. And it wasn't as soft as I hoped it would be. However, the white sauce pasta really complements the meat.

I had Toffee Sans Rival for dessert. I wasn't able to finish it, I'm already full because of the steak. But it was really good. Though the caramel was too sweet; you really have to balance the cake's components.

The place was nice and comfy. Though we were seated in a function room on the second floor, the ambience on the first floor was really inviting.

I had dined at Mario’s a few years ago and I remembered how much I enjoyed the food there and it was only last month that I got to visit it again. The Caesar Salad and Mango Jubillee are must-tries. I also love the Toffee Sans Rival cake. If ever I go back there, I’ll surely get a slice again.

I had the Pot Roast Beef for my main dish. I didn’t like it that much (must be the sauce). I think it can already be shared by 2 persons. The salad was supposed to be prepared in front of you but they just served it to our table. But I saw that they prepared the salad to the table near us. I wonder why they didn’t prepare it in front of us.

We got seated downstairs but there wasn’t much space for the food we had so we transferred upstairs. I didn’t like the room there - the ambience wasn’t as cozy as the one on the firsf floor.

I was invited by Mario’s to try the Sunday Lunch Buffet. The place is situated along Tomas Morato Avenue, Quezon City. Once you enter the restaurant it feels like you’re in the house having a party inside. The place looks cozy and elegant... with fine dine set up of the table.

I was able to try some of the amazing dishes of Mario’s which made my day so full and happy. Definitely, a delicious one and you will be back again for their awesome dishes.

For first timer, you should try the Conchinillo, Baked Oyster and Paella Valencian. “SUPER SARAP”.

Price: Php1,250.00+ per head

By the way, the restaurant serve coffee and cakes. Try the canonigo and caramel cake.

Mario’s has recently celebrated its 45th anniversary, and I’m glad that team kaladkarin has been invited to celebrate it with them. For those who have dined here, there’s no doubt they’ve only experience nothing but the best from this place. Mario’s has been the restaurant of choice when it comes to meetings, birthday celebrations, romantic dates— especially politicians and celebrities.

That’s definitely one of the challenges the restaurant faces, the restaurant is already known to only certain customer group (the upper, aged ones). It’s a good thing we could represent that millennial group so to share with the group our experience.

Before we started enjoying finest eats from the place, we were introduced to Mario’s history...
Mario’s originally started in Baguio, 1967 with couples Mario and Nenuca Benitez. Mario was a sales person at Singer back then. They loved Baguio for its chilly wind and that it’s not too crowded. With that, Mario decided to put up a restaurant of his own just in case he would be reassigned to another area, he would just simply resign and stay at Baguio.

Very little experience on the food business, their first menu came from Mario’s mom— am mix of Filipino and Spanish Cuisine. One of those was Mario’s callos and lengua. It was a small start for the Benitez, good thing they received a lot of good advices from their friends over at Manila who also owns restaurants. From there, Nenuca worked inside the kitchen while Mario utilized his sales skills to do PR with their customers.

Then martial law was rather a good turn about for the restaurant. Since traveling abroad was banned, most of the travelers ended up staying in Baguio. There were only a few restaurants back then, and most of it requires membership. The people flocked Marios.

Soon avid customers and investors recommended them to open in Manila, which they did not hesitate to do. Then there comes Mario’s Makati branch. However, as the area became the red light district more and more, Nenuca decided to relocate it into another place. Then in the 1980s, they opened the Tomas Morato branch. Mario’s Tomas Morato Branch was one of the first restaurants along the strip. Then the spot just became livelier and livelier, and obviously Mario’s became one of the well loved restaurant around.

Now that Nenuca is in charge of the place, she made sure that quality stays. She still ensures the food preparation inside the kitchen is superb, eventually visiting the table side to check on the customers, and ensuring the satisfaction of their servers, because Nenuca knows it her care for the servers will emulate in their service.

That day, we tried the Sunday Buffet that runs from 11am to 2pm.

😍Baked oysters - It’s one of the mainstays here, i love to eat this by itself, the garlic-butter tastes good, add a squeeze of lemon if you want.

😍Seafood Paella - this is one of a kind because they use Japanese rice on it.

Caesar Salad - too bad i was not able to try this because i did not know that this is being served at your tables side! 😆
The make your own salad is available in the buffet table, but I heard their Caesar Salad is really something. Do ask for assistance if you wish to have a serving and it will be served at your table side. The caesar salad is also available on weekdays @305PhP for regular and @239.64PhP for petite.

Cochinillo - found at the rotisserie, this is cooked perfectly, it’s tender to eat.

😍 Roast Beef - the mushroom gravy is good to go with this tender meat

😍 Turkey - i love staying at the meat section, this white meat is an alternative for your chicken cravings.

😍 Creme Brulee - a mainstay, also popular in the dessert section, these are really in demand! It’s not super sweet, and the dessert literally melts in your mouth!

😍 buko pandan - this is something new in the dessert section, i like it because the flavor is there, the coconut meat is abundant, the mixture is thick and filling.

😍 chocolate fondue - dip it with fresh fruits and marshmallows that’s also served in the buffet table. It comes in milk and white chocolate.

😍 Mango Jubillee @408.48PhP
Yes, it does not come with the buffet, but we were grateful we were able to try this one. This is also served table side, the server will prepare it for you with the flambé and all. The preparation was awesone, and the taste? Super perfect! The mangoes and bananas with the caramel and vanilla ice cream just just harmonizes well!

Also, try their cakes.
Canonigo - some say it’s a Filipino version of the Ile Flottante, but it’s a Spanish dessert made of sweet, fluffy meringue with custard sauce. It’s actually good to pair with coffee.

They also have carrot cake, blueberry cheesecake and toffee sans-rival!

It’s too unfortunate that they close down after 2pm for their cleaning and restocking for the dinner service. I suggest they open a portion of the cafe for afternoon coffee and teatime. Considering the number of good desserts that they have.

Over all i like the place, although it’s a bit of intimidating, it’s good to try out something like this sometimes. Invite your family here for some service and it will not fail you.

This is a certified classic favorite of mine. My husband and I recently ate here again for my birthday and we had the best experience. We started with Gambas con Chorizo and New England Clam Chowder, which are both tasty and well-prepared. Then we devoured Beef Salpicado and Fillet Mignon for our main dish, and they were equally perfect.

Classic fine dining restaurant in Tomas Morato. I love the very classic design of the interior. The servers are friendly. I had their rib eye steak with baked potato on the side. The steak is perfectly cooked but the potato was a bit undercooked. I was expecting for the potato to be warm or served hot but no it was at room temperature. Last time I was there, was 12 years ago. Making the trip from South Paranaque is illogical, what with the daily grind we all face, called traffic.

But its not what this review is all about. Fillet Mignon was and still is like M&Ms y'alls! Melts
in your mouth, not in your hands. Medium well, wrapped in premium bacon strips is the bomb! Worth the trip, road struggle and all!

Everything becomes incidental.

Heck, I'm all downpalying it, just to describe how good it is to spend dinner at Mario's. No pictures necessary, y'alls know what I'm talkin'about.

New Year new cheers!

First day back at work... And on my way back to work I decided to have a lunch out going Han Solo. Mario's Tomas Morato is one of the places you go to and still need to dress up, it's your choice if you don't want to, but I'm sure you'll be a bit intimidated when you walk in there with your shorts on and shirt... (Currently wearing them).

I started with a mushroom soup followed by a recommendation by one of their servers a pot roast beef and lastly I indulged with some brewed coffee.

What can I say, their mushroom soup is fantastic, it was a clean plate for me and that seldom happens now. I was expecting a gravy or jus for the pot roast beef but when it was served the sauce is reminiscent of beef mechado. The beef is fork tender and all the flavors just come in well together.

I also commend their service, a few restaurants now focus on service. And this restaurant truly makes you feel served.

Thanks for the wonderful meal. Please improve your coffee haha it is totally dreadful.

Went here for Father's Day, and the place was jampacked. It had a nice family vibe and would give you excitement because of how energetic the place was even during lunch time.

The Seafood Linguine was excellent! It was in a generous serving and the seafood were cooked perfectly. However, i wouldn't recommend it for those who do not like Italian-style spaghetti as this is straight-on tomato based.

Both steaks were also cooked the way we liked it - medium. The Lengua con Setas, too, was delicious! Really worth every peso 😊

For starters, had Caesar Salad at Php 260. Their Caesar was ordinary. In fact, I didn't enjoy it. I don't know if it's the lack of dressing. The taste of the greens were so much. At this price, size can just be gobbled by one to two.

For the mains, chose from the Chef Recommended: Pot Roast Beef at Php 450. My pot roast came with a scoop of mashed potato and sauteed sigarilyas. The beef was so so tender, alright but it's not richly flavored the way I expected it. Maybe I was influenced by Piatos's Roast Beef potato snacks. The mashed potato was good but sometimes, I can encounter a chunk.

Should I choose from these next time? Well, I must say that overall it was okay but not that I'd applaud to. Besides, these were what the waiters recommended.

Enjoy eating,

My dad's favorite restaurant and one of the oldest establishment along Tomas Morato. I have been accompanying him here for his meetings ever since since I was 12. But I never had deep appreciation of the place since most people here are literally seniors. Everyone thought that I'll be taking up law to follow his footsteps until I entered med school.

It just feel strange that for the past few years, my colleagues in a multispecialty group of surgeons have been holding our breakfast and dinner meetings here. I never imagined that before. That over time, I'll be a more frequent regular of the place than my dad.

For dinner, my favorite here are the Filet mignon steak wrapped in bacon with gravy and olives; the classic lengua; their famous caesar salad; and of course their steaks. Their soups are pretty good also, and from time to time, you can ask for the soup of the day. It's relatively cheaper btw. Their callos and the chef specialty are likewise good.

I'm not a fan, but chances always bring me here. Great date place for the young ones since the oldies wouldn't mind or possibly not recognize you here. Great place to bring senior family members, believe me - they've always been at home with its ambiance.

One of the classics if i may say in Thomas Morato.. mario's never disappoints, the cozy ambiance is something to look for when dining out esp if you want it to be a little bit intimate than usual. I had the steak and prawn thermidore, the sauce of the prawn is somewhat overwhelming but the steak is great, my partner had the steak ala pobre and it was great as well. The caesar salad is not too salty and the prawn bisque soup is just right. Oh i love the bread too..

We have been dining here since I was in grade school. My dad takes us here for Sunday lunch either a la carte or for a buffet. This is where our family bonds. This is where I had my first oyster. This has been a very memorable place for me and my family. Dining here is always a pleasure. When I was younger, I even had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Levi Celerio, a Filipino National Artist, a Guinness Book of Record Holder for playing with a leaf as a musical instrument. Dining here always makes me feel like a VIP coz that's how they make you feel. All their staffs are well trained and attentive and always greet you with a smile and they even know our names. Every time we are here they never fail to wow us with their food and service. The place is classy but comfortable. There is someone who will play the piano while you eat. But this place gets packed during the weekends. My absolute favorite are their tender juicy steaks, Caesar salad and baked oysters... absolute mouthwatering!!! They even gave me a free cake when they learned it was my birthday... What a treat! I just love this place!

What can I say about this restaurant? It was a great experience. We had the paella and the lechon and roast beef as well. The place is nice for some intimate evening with your loved one. You see this is one of the oldest restaurants in Tomas Morato.

Although I am from the south, I went all the way there to have some decent food down my throat and I was not disappointed.

I also had their lasagna and that spicy mushrooms. Oh my. Superb. Will try other dishes next time.

For most local restaurants in the Philippines, surviving 10 years in the business can already be considered an amazing achievement, which gives Mario’s restaurant all the reason to celebrate for lasting an astounding 40 years in the industry.

Mario’s: A History

Mario Benitez’ great passion for customer service married well with Nenuca’s perfect execution of her family’s long tradition of Spanish cuisine, which, together, gave birth to the establishment of the very first Mario’s Restaurant in 1971 along Session Road in Baguio.

Former location of the original Mario's restaurant in BaguioFormer location of the original Mario’s restaurant, where a branch of KFC now stands.

After the original venue got burned down, Mario’s transferred to a more open and spacious location.

It didn’t take long until the restaurant received great reviews from both locals and vacationers alike, some even encouraging the couple to branch out in the big city of Manila. Finally in 1974, the Benitez Family, confident that their fusion of Filipino and Spanish cuisine will have a special place in the hearts of the Manileños, opened the doors of their second branch situated along the bustling streets of Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

Now 37 years on, their Tomas Morato Branch has become a household name and has been the locale for countless unforgettable memories from simple birthday parties, to wedding celebrations, and even to grand corporate events.

Mario and Nenuca Benitez may have stepped down from directly managing the business themselves and have let their children take over, but according to Chef Anton, their mother, Nenuca, is still the boss and has the final say on big decisions regarding the restaurant.

As a response to the changing trends and demands of the market, Mario’s has decided to upgrade a few things in their restaurant to lure in more customers, most especially the “yuppies” or young professionals.

The people at Mario’s decided to change the logo for a more modern appeal. They removed the rectangular and circular borders, but kept the pine tree which is their ingenious way of saying that the first Mario’s Restaurant was established in Baguio.

And the addition of the tagline, “Experience our way,” is short for this:

Marios’s has gone beyond being just a restaurant. It has become an experience, touching people’s lives and helping create their memorable moments. It all started from the idea that a restaurant’s first duty is to serve the best from its kitchen. And from the meticulous care and passion of the Benitezes that every dish must be perfect. Because it is the Mario’s way..

Small changes were made in Mario’s Tomas Morato branch like adding a few windows to let in more natural light and to give people a view of the restaurant’s beautiful garden outside. Numerous light fixtures were also placed to create a more cozy and inviting space for the diners.

Mario’s Session Road branch made use of Baguio’s naturally cool weather by creating a more open and airy space, which makes the fireplace an interesting focal point of the room, producing a very warm and romantic ambience.

Mario’s was known for their rustic-looking menus. That is why they retained the homemade paper look of the cover and combined it with pages that are modern, glossy, and with mouth-watering pictures of their signature dishes.

They have also changed their Chef’s Specials, Take Out, Christmas Specials, and Wine Lists to match the look and feel of their new website, which I will be talking about later.

The new Mario’s website is everything it should be. Its layout is an accurate representation of the classy yet modern atmosphere that Mario’s has been striving for in their restaurants. The site is very simple, yet contains all the necessary pieces of information people on the net are looking for in a website.

Upon entering the wooden doors of Mario’s, the first thing that caught my attention was the guy playing “Smooth Operator” by one of my favorite artists, Sade, on the piano.

Next to good music, the next things I can’t resist are sweet goods. When I saw the display and the trolley of sweets, I tried with great lengths to stop myself from pulling a Lori Baltazar and request that dessert comes first.

Before we began our festive dinner, Spanky Enriquez from Juice.ph took the floor to introduce two key players in managing Mario’s – Chef Anton and Sir Jose Fil Benitez. The siblings have quite a nice working set up. One functions as the executive chef for Mario’s – Chef Anton, who handles the kitchen, while Sir Jose Fil Benitez takes care of marketing and the finances. Their tandem reminds me of the somewhat similar set up we have here at Certified Foodies – one cooks (me), while the other does pretty much everything else (my sister, Mhel). Haha! :D

Chef Anton proudly shared a brief history of how Mario’s became what it is now. Sir Fil, on the other hand, talked about various unforgettable memories they have had in managing the restaurant. For someone like me who is pursuing a career in the food industry, hearing these things from them gives me an idea of the ups and downs of starting a restaurant business. And I can’t forget when Sir Fil said (not in his exact words), “As long as you’re passionate with what you’re doing, success will eventually come.”

For our appetizers, we shared a huge pan of Oysters Rockefeller, which are baked with spinach and hollandaise sauce. An individual serving would cost Php 265.00.

I usually hate oysters because of their gooey texture, but this baked interpretation was quite crunchy and the hollandaise sauce, I found, was not too overpowering. And don’t forget to squeeze some calamansi onto the oysters because it kicks the flavor up a notch.

Next to tickle our appetite was the Gambas con Chorizo (Php 345). I both love shrimps and chorizo, and having them together like this is quite a fascinating mix. I could have this for breakfast everyday.

And before I forget, once you’re seated comfortably on your seats, you are offered a basket of bread coupled with some spreadable butter. They’re for free, and they are freshly made in their kitchen every day. I can attest to that because I managed to press a few buns to check for freshness. Haha. I inherited that weird habit from my mom. :D

For our plate of greens, we had what they consider as Mario’s crown jewel – the famous Caesar Salad (Php 255), “prepared the inimitable Mario’s way.” One of their servers demonstrated how they prepare the salad, even sharing us the secret recipe of their special salad dressing. It’s somewhat similar to making a hollandaise sauce, but with this, the egg yolks are not cooked at all.

The dressing was phenomenal that I couldn’t get enough of it. It was very dense and creamy. You would even think that there weren’t any eggs in it. I’m very excited to try it at home. I’ll be posting their Caesar Salad recipe in another post, so better watch out for that.

For our main course, we were asked to choose one from their four (4) bestsellers. Ever since we got there, I’ve been hearing Spanky rave about how good Mario’s Santol Glazed Pork Chop was, so I ordered a serving of that to share with everyone in our table, but I ended up finishing the whole plate by myself. Again, I am very sorry. Haha. :D

The pork chop was divine. I know I may sound caveman-ish by saying it’s the first time I had pork chop this tender. Even when you cut through the meat, you’ll see that it was cooked to perfection because the inside is very moist. The santol glaze provided a subtle tanginess that I really enjoyed, and it served as a nice complement to the charred goodness of the pork.

Someone from our table ordered the Bacalao a la Vizcaina. It is salted cod fish cooked in a very rich tomato sauce. There was no wonder the servers were urging us to order this. It’s a very toothsome meal and quite filling, too.

I suggested my sister, Mhel, to go for the Salpicon de Mar y Tierra since it’s the only dish no one has ordered yet in our table. I was quite jealous when this arrived. The dish is made up of shrimps and tenderloin cubes sautéed in olive oil, garlic and chilies on a bed of garlic rice. I loved this surf and turf dish a lot for it’s a plate that marries the abundance of the sea and the strong flavors of the earth. (Poetic, eh?)

When I read on the menu Corned Beef and Cabbage, I immediately thought of shredded beef similar to the canned ones, so I was really shocked when this plate landed on our table. The beef was very tender and well seasoned. The cabbage was cooked quite right, not too soggy nor too crunchy.

Next to the huge platter of Oysters Rockefeller we shared stood a huge pan of very warm Paella Valenciana, a mix of seafood, chicken, pork and sausage cooked with saffron rice, vegetables and herbs. It’s quite obvious that carefully prepared stock was used to cook the rice for it was very tasty.

Woohoo! On to my favorite part of the dinner – desserts! When everyone was done eating their entrees, Spanky came in pushing a trolley of heavenly sweet goods.

The first thing I eyed for was the Apple Pie (Php 175). It is layers upon layers of delicious granny smith apples, flavored with cinnamon and brown sugar. From now on, I’ll be making all my apple pies like this – thin crusted but with generous amount of pie filling.

The creamy Leche Flan done ala Mario’s was very dense and creamy, and the caramel syrup was just of the right sweetness.

For those who are watching on their sweet intake, this Sugar-free Jello (Php 95) would be the right choice. It has less the sugar content, but doesn’t deprive you of flavor.

I enjoyed eating the Canonigo (Php 90), especially together with that dip. It’s a modest yet enjoying way of ending a meal.

Now it’s time for some flambéed Mango Jubilee. Desserts like these were quite famous back in the days because of the extra flair required in preparing it. But then and now, it’s still a dessert that brings you the best of both worlds – warm mango flambé and cold vanilla ice cream.

Flambeed Mango Jubilee at Mario's

Lastly, the dessert I’m dying to binge on again is Mario’s Toffee Sans Rival (Php 120). It’s the type of dessert you’d eat after a hard day’s work, when all you want to do is wear your pajamas, curl like a baby, and eat all your worries away. When I had my first bite of this, all I could muster was, “That’s comfort food right there!”

In conclusion, we would to congratulate the Benitez family and the whole Mario’s team for their successful 40 years! May you continue serving your customers great food and wonderful experiences. Just like what Sir Fil said, “Why change something when it’s not broken?”. The consistency of your service and food has always been your strongest suit. Looking forward to coming back to have a taste of your other delicious dishes, especially that Banoffee Pie!

It was good, though the only noteworthy dish we tried was their Caesar salad. We ordered the salad, seafood linguine for pasta, broiled salmon for the main, and the Jubilee flambé for dessert.

The Caesar salad was exceptional; the sauce isn't too thick or too watery, it's just right, Idk how to describe it further, but let's just say the salad is on point lol

The seafood linguine was.. Okay Lang, the salmon also was..okay lang also? nothing special.

The mango jubilee flambé that we got was prepared right in front of us, it was good but the ice cream melted too easily(I know, hot+cold items don't mix well) but it was like eating soup after 5 minutes or so.

The ambiance is for a family setting, but there are areas where it's suitable for couples(ask to be seated somewhere privately if you're planning a date night here).

There are only a handful restaurants in Metro Manila that serves old world cuisine and Mario's one of them. Some personal favorites are the French Onion Soup (tip#1 request from your server to make a double serving of cheese, you won't regret it!) Oyster Rockefeller (tip#2 the oysters are certified so don't be afraid to try them) Ceasar Salad, Beef Hotpot (tip#3 this is not listed on their menu but used to be part of the classic specials of the restaurant- think of beef pot pie only with slices of beef and topped with mashed potato, this is a definite must try, just request the server to put lessen the gravy) and mango jubilee.

I've been eating here since as a kid, and I have always, always loved their Mango Crepe and Jubilee, especially when they make it in front of you. 10 years have gone, and I still look for their sweet mango desserts. The food is also great, though it may be a bit pricey for some; but the quality is worth it.

For starters, try the Oyster Rockefeller.

This restaurant has existed ever since i can remember. I grew up eating their food either the one in Baguio or in Morato and there's a very good reason why it lasted all these years. The food is superb, consistent and just delectable. It never ceases to amaze me even if I've been there a lot of times. If you haven't been here yet, i strongly suggest and urge you to give it a try. You wont regret it.

will always come back for more..

Mario's has been on Tomas Morato ever since I was a baby and I think I know why. The food is still killer after all these years and it's still as elegant as ever. Although I believe that the best past about Mario's is when you order a Caesar Salad. They'll bring over a trolley where they mix the salad in front of you, and even ask you just how much of the stuff you want on your salad. Always fresh.

"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." Well, well, well... Mario's is the best place to dine if you really need some great food to perk you up! Rack of Lamb on the top portion of the picture and below is me and my sister's favorite White Snapper in Anchovy Mushroom! Food here is so wonderful that you won't regret any cent that you've paid for. It's quite far from my house but it is really worth the travel once you take a bite on their delicious dishes. It would be really great if there is a branch of Mario's here in the dirty South!

I visited Mario's Restaurant last Sunday for their Lunch Buffet. Their lunch buffet costs Php 750 for adults and Php 580 for kids.

The spread is complete from soup, appetizers, entrees, carving to desserts.

For soup, they have the zucchini soup, which I really liked because it was very creamy.

For appetizers, we had the Oyster Rockefeller, Assorted Sushi, Potato Skins, Pinsec Frito and Basil Buttered Corn.

For main dishes and carving, I love their Cochinillo, Lasagna, and Seafood Paella. They also have roast beef that time but it runs out quickly. I love their Seafood Paella which has huge mussels and clams on top.

For dessert, they have cake slices and chocolate fountain.

They buffet spread is quite simple yet really delicious. The service is, as always, top notch. I'd love to return for more.

I can still remember the countless times I've eaten at Mario's Restaurant in Tomas Morato branch with my family. We lived quite near so it was not only convenient but the place served wonderful food. I can't believe that branch has been open more than 35 years already while the original Baguio branch in Session Road that started it all is already 40 years old this year.

I got a chance to relieve all those old memories when I was invited to try some of their famous dishes at an event to celebrate their 40 year existence as well as the launching of their revamped website, www.marios.com.ph.

We started off with an appetizer, Gambas con Chorizo, a mix of sweet, crisp shrimps and smoky chorizo de bilbao. This dish was very good, getting the best of two well loved Spanish dishes.

Oysters Rockefeller. Even though I prefer my oysters raw with just a spritz of lemon or calamansi, these baked ones topped with hollandaise sauce and spinach served to satisfy my taste buds.

We were then treated to a show, Mario's Caesar Salad was created in front of us. A step by step building of the restaurant signature salad from the crushing of the garlic, mixing in of olive oil, addition of anchovies and eggs and finally the coating of the lettuce. The salad is creamy, with salty and the slight garlic taste underneath the crispy lettuce.

For the main dish, my eyes were immediately drawn to the Corned Beef and Cabbage, served with a side of boiled potatoes and carrots. This dish is usually associated with the St. Partick's Day celebration in the United States. Its not usually served in most restaurants, so I order this whenever I see it. A curious thing in how they serve is the addition of a bowl of the juices instead of the in the serving plate. The beef are tender and had just the right amount of amount of saltiness, a dollop of horseradish and mustard and I was sated.

My wife chose the Glazed Pork, a big yet tender piece of pork chop slathered in Mario's special sauce. I had a little taste of the pork and despite the thickness was tender and flavorful. The thing that stuck to my taste buds was the herbed garlic rice served on the side.

A large pan of Paella Valenciana was served to be shared by all. Teeming with seafood, meats and vegetables, it was quite a hit among the diners that night.

For dessert you could opt for Mango Jubilee, a flambeed and liquored mango dessert that used to be the rage in restaurants before but has almost gone extinct. This is another beside the table preparation but with a more fiery flare. Its served with ice cream for the hot and cold mix, so yummy.

Wary of the any accidental burning, one might opt for some of their cakes and saccharine offerings like Leche Flan, Bread Pudding, Toffee Sansrival or their famous Banoffee Pie

Mario's Restaurant has managed to last through the years luring back old customers, their children and the new generation of diners by constantly changing and innovating their look yet keeping the food that has worked for generations at the same level. I actually noticed that their menu was not as robust as yesteryears, with a few dishes I remember not on the menu anymore. The management plans to bring them back slowly to let new customers and diners experience dining the Mario's way.
