Personally, my new favorite restaurant.
Haven't been here in years because of a previous meh experience. So glad we decided to give it another go. We loved the renovations they did to the place and the upgrades to the menu. Loved everything we ordered. Old standbys Pad Thai and Tom Yum were just as good as we remembered, in fact, even better. New items we tried were AMAZING! We'll be back for sure. Best Thai resto in the Metro 👍
Quiet and peaceful place.
Food was amazing, the best pad Thai
Thai food that is packed with flavor. Better than Benjarong! Service is attentive and efficient. Highly recommended!!!
1.) Tom Yum Goong- legit and worth the price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
2.) Satay Gai- Chicken Satay with peanut sauce. The chicken meat on skewers exceeded my expectation with regards to size 😅
3.) Stir Fried Beef with broccoli - ⭐️⭐️⭐️
4.) Hor Mok- I can really taste the coconut though we agreed the sauce is made synthetically not from a fresh one
5.) Thai milk tea ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Enjoyed
- chicken pandan, muang thai fried rice, pad thai, mojito,
mango sticky rice, chill ambience
Meh
- bagoong rice (few toppings), tom something something soup (some veggies too big for bite sized)
Amazing food and great ambiance! I appreciate their menu and them having vegan/vegetarian options. Would definitely love to go back.
In QC and wanting Thai food? Head to Muang Thai! They serve all the Thai classics that you would be looking for whenever cravings hit. We tried the Pad Thai, Pandan Chicken, and Green Curry and they were all good. Prices are a bit on the high side (QC standards) but becomes very affordable when you avail of Zomato Gold’s 1+1 deal.
Over all rating: it can still be a 5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✅ Food Quality- 4.5/5
Ingredients were fresh and taste was awesome. The curry was rich and complemented the pork crisped to perfection. The pad thai was great, i expected it to be spicier but perhaps its just me that is used to spicy 🌶 thai food. Spring roll and sauce was match made in heaven as well
✅ Food Presentation- 5/5
You may not want to touch your food since the presentation was aesthetically on point. At the same time you just wanted to dig in.
✅Ambiance- 5/5
The interior was great. Well lighted and the 2nd floor had an open area which is I think suitable for cool late night dinner.
✅ Staff- 5/5
They are attentive and very accommodating. Perhaps it helped that there’s not a lot of customers yet. They even reminded us of the take away food we almost left.

Delicious food! We loved everything! The tom yum goong was delicate, phad thai authentic, pandan chicken perfectly browned, satay light, and pork curry very interesting! The place is very cozy and clean, and the staff very friendly (thanks, Jane)! We'll be back!
We ordered the Satay Sampler, Mu Krob, and Pad Thai. The Satay Sampler was delicious and we really loved the peanut sauce and vinegar that was served along with the dish. The Pad Thai was also delicious and had a lot of texture to it duento the crunchy vegetables and fried lumpia wraps in it. Lastly, the Mu Krob was just okay because I think that the taste of the fried pork overpowered the taste of the red curry. Overall though, I am happy we ate here and will definitely come back next time to try other dishes!
Ambiance: The environment felt warm and cozy. The interiors were very much in lined with the restaurant’s cuisine which is Thai. Warm hues with pops of colors surrounded the place. The arrangement of the tables and chairs were very commendable as it provided ample space for people to comfortable pass through without being a nuisance to other diners. Conversations were easily carried out without overlapping with other voices.
Food: The food was very delightful and the Thai flavors were really present in each dish. We ordered a variety of food but I highly recommend their Pu Ja from the Appetizer section and their Pad Thai from the Rice and Noodle section. The price was just right and closely aligned with the quality of the food.
Service: Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. The waiters/waitresses were very efficient and diligent. Their overall service is highly commendable.
🐽 Food: We ordered crispy catfish with green mango salad, bagoong rice, Tom yum mixed seafood, beef with broccoli, red curry beef, satay mixed platter, and chicken wrapped with pandan leaves. Among all the dishes that we ordered, I enjoyed the bagoong rice and red curry beef the most. For dessert, we ordered the mango sticky rice.
🍹 Drinks: We tried the lemon + lemongrass. I personally found it too sour. I want to try their Thai Milk Tea next time.
🍴Ambiance: Clean and simple restaurant. They have a cute neon light sign that says “sawasdee”.
👫 Service: Servers were approachable. Orders arrived so quick.
💸 Price: Affordable and dishes were good for sharing. We were 4 and we still had take home. We also got to enjoy the perks of Zomato Gold.
First time to try here and the ambience looks elegant. We like to commend the accommodating guard on-duty that assisted us with attentiveness. For the food, it was great especially the padthai and the green curry. The highlight of our order is the Frozen Thai milktea that is actually one-of-a-kind and a must-try dessert. We will go back and will try other dishes.
The food are yummy. We ordered pad thai, spring rolls and sticky rice with mango. The ambience is very relaxing with great background music and staff are very accommodating.
One of the best Thai restaurants in the metro! Very good ambiance, great service and excellent service plus 1+1 on food via Zomato Gold!
Grilled Eggplant Salad in citrus vinaigrette was excellent. As was the Khao Soi - fried egg noodles in green curry sauce served with seared shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts and fried tofu curds. Reminded us of the Khao Soi we had in Chiang Mai.
Stir-fried Morning Glory with Tofu was a great veggie side dish
Gai Hor Bar Toey - Thai Pandan wrapped chicken served with homemade soy sesame dip - was superb. The best take we've had on this dish. Succulent grilled chicken well marinated with herbs.
Frozen Thsi Milk Tea with shaved ice was an excellent and not-so-sweet dessert
Had their pork rib dish and it was like an explosion of flavors inside my mouth. Ambience and the interiors were really nice as well. Will definitely come back for more.
This restaurant have been renovated into a nice vibe with friendly staff who will recommend what’s best in the menu. Their food are cook with a twist that will give your palette a tinge to try it once more. Been here a couple of times
Found out about this place because of a design studio I follow worked on Muang Thai’s rebranding. So last Mother’s Day, I had a table reserved for me and my family that Sunday. When we got there, it was really crowded. We had to wait for 30 minutes for a table to get ready even if we already had reservation. But I was still bringing my hopes up because I really wanted to try the revamped dishes.
Serving time was good. And we were attended well by the servers somehow (the place was packed so they kept walking all over the place). Was really impressed with the food and it lived up to my expectations (check out their IG feed!). Their interior is also really nice and minimalist. The restrooms are clean (and have a bidet).
Overall, 4/5. Maybe it was just bad timing since it was a holiday. Also didn’t get to use my Zomato Gold since it doesn’t work on holidays. But will definitely come again on a less busy day!
So happy there’s finally a good authentic Thai restaurant on this side of town! Their Pad Thai is one of the best in their menu, as well as their Green Curry Pork Belly dish 😍😍😍 Some must-tries are their Catfish and Mango Salad and Golden Pouches too. Their prices are quite stee considering their serving size, but the taste and quality definitely compensate very well for those.
Service was great n cozy. Food was so so. We tried this bec it has zomato gold even on a Sunday.
Saw someone ordering the frozen milk tea n it looks good. My son tried their ordinary thai milk tea n it was good as well.
I celebrated my birthday here and it was an overall pleasant experience. I didn't expect a lot but it was so good. I liked the pad Thai and the catfish rice. The curries are very good as well. I look forward to going back soon.
They renovated the place which looks more expensive, more organized, spacious and beautiful compared than before. We tried their pork curry which tasted really good! One of the best curry i had so far. The fried cat fish and Mango salad, soup with shrimp and chicken pandan also tasted delicious. Will certainly go back here! 😋😋😋
Been planning to eat here even before it got renovated. Place is awesome. Very clean restroom too! Thanks to zomato gold we were able to try their best sellers which were all great! We ordered the Catfish Salad, Fried Appetizer Sampler, Phad Thai, Tom Yung, Khao Kluk Kapi (Bagoong Rice) and the Beef Short Ribs. For dessert the Takho ( 3 pcs per order) and Iced Thai Coffee. Thanks to ZG paid our bill half the price.
Muang Thai has this very calming/relaxing ambiance and they offer one of the best thai food here in Manila. Will definitely go here for my Thai fix every once in a while.
This Authentic Thai Resto has been existing since I graduated College in the 90's. My mom and I used to come here when she was still alive. We love eating here my favourite Bagoong Rice and Pad Thai. I can't wait to come back and reminisce good fondling memories with my mom.
I've been trying out different Thai restaurants in the city and this my dear has the best Pad Thai. Aroy mak! We also ordered The Tom Yum Goong and just wow, very tasty! The place's great as well and the staff were friendly. I love it here and will def be back.
I don't normally write a review to pair 5-star rating but rewarding such a service through 5 stars is not enough. An excellent job to the full staff of Muang Thai for giving me a stellar experience!
First, the food was great! I've long had a thai food craving that was never satisfied until now. Pad thai tasted like it was cooked with choice ingredients and not what's the cheapest option. Satay platter was seasoned and plated very well. Even if it wasn't packed with meat, it was packed with flavor and consistency. To top it off, the Mango Sticky Rice tasted better than those I got as 'pasalubong' from Thailand!
The waitstaff was very accommodating, courteous, and knowledgable about the menu. They were also quick to respond to a call. They even fill our water without us having to ask!!! Their security guard was also very quick to assist with parking and went the extra mile to notify me that one of my car doors wasn't fully closed!
The venue itself was clean and neat. It was organized and well-designed. The lighting was very mellow. Not too bright, but also not too dark; perfect for photo moments.
Overall, I was blown away with my experience coming from 0 expectations to a full 100!
I was in the area and checked which restaurants are offering the zomato gold promo, this one caught my attention as it has a high rating and good reviews so I decided to try it. The place has ample parking space and good interiors. Menu offers a wide choice of food.
I got their pad thai and satay gai. The pad thai was really good! They didn't skimp on the toppings included in it. As for the satay gai, the meat was so tender, juicy and delicious. The only thing I didn't like is the sauce it came with, I'm not sure but their peanut sauce tasted like there's a hint of curry in it. I prefer a more nutty tasting sauce for my satay.
Will definitely come back here to try their other dishes.
Muang Thai has been around for many years now and actually was a furniture shop then. But now, they transformed into a restaurant business which focuses on serving authentic Thai food. Now on its new management, they ensure that they serve quality food for those who love such cuisine. I was recently invited to try some of their dishes here in Malakas St. in Quezon City. They have enough parking space in the area.
Muang Thai Diliman has surprisingly great interiors in contrast to the structure’s old facade.
Their food were also really good! We had their best selling Pad Thai, Stir Friend Broccoli, and Stir Fried Chicken. The Pad Thai has a great authentic Thai flavor, and the rice noodles were just the right amount of stiff and chewy. The stir fried chicken also had a unique yummy taste, although this had a fewer serving.
As for our Zomato Gold experience, Muang Thai has relatively strict Zomato Gold rules. Don’t expect to get the dish that is priced higher than the others free, when you order 3 or more dishes.
Overall, it was a good experience and their food would actually make you want to go back!
We used to eat at Muang Thai often when there was a branch in Banawe. Once they moved though, we stopped going. Recently though, I've been craving for good Pad Thai so we decided to brave the traffic to go to Muang Thai Diliman
Was it as good as expected? Their pad Thai is still superb as ever! Having said that, I miss their old branch from before - where the place was dingy but I thought it was way better value for money. Read on for my Rundown of the dishes below:
1. Muang Thai salad (pomelo salad with shrimp) PHP 270 🌟🌟- good! I liked the curry like sauce and the peeled shrimp. BUT the serving is very small! Huge difference from before :(
2. Tom yum goong PHP 410 🌟: it's OK. The tartness was just right, but halos walang laman. Sagana sa sabaw though, the 4 of us managed refills
3. Pad thai PHP 360 🌟🌟🌟: the real star of the show. I love the pad Thai here, the springiness of the noodles, the sweetness of the sauce blending with all the other flavors! The chicken that comes with the pad Thai is a bit weird though, tasted slightly undercooked. If you ignore that, this dish is pitch perfect
4. Gai hor Bai toey (pandan chicken) PHP 310 🌟🌟🌟: Lovely! Chicken was very tender and aromatic. If you don't want it too sweet, eat as is. Otherwise, you can make use of the sweet sauce
5. Khai phalo (slow braised pork in sweet soy and Thai spices) PHP 360 🌟🌟🌟: very tender! Would recommend this dish, plus sauce was great!
6. Beef red curry PHP 395 🌟: the curry sauce itself was amazing - pwedeng pang-ulam! But... The beef was super tough! Note to self: never order beef here...
7. Mango sticky rice PHP 130 🌟🌟: I love the sticky rice here, the coconut cream is really melded into the rice ❤️ the mango wasn't sweet though, hence the one star downgrade
8. Thai halo halo PHP 160 🌟: boo! Not worth the price. Barely had anything in it
Overall, Muang Thai's food is a mixed bag, but I'd probably still return for their pad Thai. Just keep in mind the following:
- Parking is difficult. They've got parking space but it's always full
- They have a weird way of calculating the Zomato Gold discount... We used 3 Zomato Gold, and instead of discounting the 2nd, 4th and 6th most expensive dish; they discounted the 4th, 5th and 6th dish... Hmm, difference of 85 pesos so not a huge deal. Just keep in mind :)
Muang Thai is a well-loved restaurant for so many years by the village. A favorite (and still is!), and it still hasn't changed. Besides the new interiors and new fixtures, the resraurant has been able to maintain their quality.
Favorite dishes include:
Cat fish salad
Tom yum soup
ALL THE FRIED RICE DISHES (HAHA)
Thai milk tea
Best Thai food!!!!!!! I recommend the all the kinds of rice, sweet and sour fish, skewers, etc. I love rice bowls so I recommend the spicy basil chicken rice bowl for lunch ❤️❤️
Ambience is great. Clean, cozy and well lit!
Staff are courteous and attentive.
Food is good! Ordered chicken satay which my 6 yr old consumed all by himself.
I orderd green curry chicken and finished it by myself too!
Will definitely be back to try the other dishes.
The tahko (dessert) was not good.
Staff was not aware of our booking appointment (done through Zomato app). Had to wait for about 10 minutes until a table cleared up. It was okay since servers were kind and apologetic. We ordered some of their best sellers - spring rolls, muang thai salad and soup, pad thai, chicken pandan, and bagoong rice. Everything was delicious!
Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Food is delicious! Had the fried squid appetizer, pad thai and muang thai fried rice. A little pricey though. Would go back!
Serving size is relatively small. But food quality is quite good, ambience is A+.! Loved the clams on basil, tom yum soup and pad thai. The pandan chicken could add more taste. Pad Thai serving size is quite small for a usual Thai dish. Overall, suggested for romantic dates maybe not for family types if you're super hungry.
We love the food. The spiciness of Thai food just hit the spot. The flavors are fantastic. Staffs are accommodating. We enjoyed our lunch, stomach full.
Muang Thai is, without a doubt, another restaurant deserving of a five-star rating. Honestly, if I could eat here every day, I would. The scent and the taste of the food still linger within me weeks after eating here. No wonder this establishment has been serving the public for years now. They've also recently renovated the interior of the place. I was told it had a very rustic look before and it used to be a store but look at it now, it's the very definition of a classy restaurant that feels like fine dining.
I'm gonna tell you right now, I loved each and every dish I tasted so I don't think I'm gonna write anything bad about anything so might as well skip this review and dash up to the restaurant and experience the whole thing yourself.
We were first given a small wooden plate with a tiny wrapped spiced food that I could only describe as a palate cleanser. It was small but the flavors were all over my mouth.
Yum Pla Dook Fu (Php 260.00): this is probably the most commonly known Thai salad which has catfish and green mango. Even if you're a picky eater, you'd be sure to love this. The combination of the sourness that green mango has and salty taste of the catfish is just perfect.
Yum Som-O (Php 210.00): now, this feels like it's a strange combination of ingredients but it truly does work. There's pomelo, grilled shrimp, nuts, and a green sauce that tasted coconut-y sweet and had a hint of curry.
Pad Thai (Php 360.00): I wasn't Pad Thai's biggest fan before because it had a lot of texture which I found confusing but I've now realized that what I didn't like before is how the sauce of the noodles didn't go well with other textures in the dish but Muang Thai found the right ones and mixed them all together in this dish. It was so spicy but I really loved it. I couldn't get enough of it even if my tongue was burning.
Khao Kluk Kapi (Php 360.00): even their rice is worth the calories. This is like our bagoong rice but sweeter. There were big bits of meat that was incorporated into the bagoong.
Gai Hor Bai Toey (Php 310.00): since I'm a fan of the sweet and savory combination, I could say that this is my favorite dish among all the ones that we've tasted that day. Some might say that this Pandan Chicken is too sweet for them but for me, it's just right especially when combined with the bagoong rice.
Beef Short Ribs (Php 435.00): this tender beef was marinated perfectly so the melt-in-your-mouth experience is combined with a flavorful burst in your tastebuds. Who doesn't love that about their ribs?
Now, for dessert. FIRST OF ALL. Their Sticky Mango Rice (Php 110.00): is the best I've had so far. Now, I've never been to Thailand but if this isn't what you call the best, then I'm in for a treat. Just the rice itself is already a treat because of sweet and creamy it is but when combined with the mango, oh wow. The mango was perfectly ripe so it's at its best taste.
The only thing I don't like about Thai food is how much cilantro their dishes have but that can be removed so, I can work with it. After all, it is worth that effort.
Muang Thai used to be an old furniture shop along Malakas St. Diliman that has been serving good thai food the past 20 years, last year it underwent rennovation and was transformed into an upscale (yet affordable) date place which happens to churn out the best Thai cuisine this side of the Metro.
Muang Thai, pound for pound (Considering Price and Quality) is the best Thai restaurant north of the
Metro period. This a no brainer, a decision I couldve made myself half awake. Muang Thai from a price and quality perspective, its up there with Benjarong and Peoples Palace.
Now in case the burst of clarity got to you and you decided "Hey this guy seems pretty sure, why dont I try it myself." I recommend you order the following dishes.
1.) Pad Thai -Their version of this popular Thai staple has the right level of sloppiness which when spruced with a little spicy kick of chili and cilantro makes your palate water and tingle at the same time.
2.) Gai Hor Bai Toey or Pandan Rice - Tender, moist, and juicy, with flavors of pandan seeping right through the chicken, this savory dish has an almost addictive undertone to it. If youre staying away from carbs, I advise you to stay away from this dish since it will only amplify your rice craving.
3.) Sticky Rice with Mango - Perhaps the best version Ive tasted and Ive tasted them all. Their rendition of this Thai classic has the right balance of texture sweetness and creaminess that can be easily overdone with any lack of culinary attentiveness.
I could go on writing food erotica fueling fantasies about their other dishes (which are mostly superb), but if you do have an intact palate, I recommend you stop fantasizing and go try the real thing.
The food’s super good! THAIype namin siya! hehe The chicken pandan, beef ribs, catfish fried rice, and pa ju were really good. fyi, the thai milk tea was legit. (we were so busy eating we forgot to take photos. oops)
I didn't use to like Thai food, truthfully. It took a while for me to develop a liking for it. Why? I really don't know. Maybe because I have a low tolerance for spicy food. Good thing that slowly I started to appreciate it, thanks to my dear Tita N who, a foodie herself, who exposed me to this cuisine. And now, there's no stopping me in looking for the best Thai resto.
And Muang Thai, I should say, is one of Manila's finest. From it's simply chic interiors to the well-trained staff, one easily falls in love with this new eating place.
I had the opportunity to taste a quite number of items in the menu and I had five that, I must say, the best of the lot:
Yum Pla Dook Fu - is fried catfish with mango salad
Pad Thai - everybody's favorite
Mu Krob - is crispy pork belly with a choice of green, red, or panang curry sauce
Stcky Rice - Glutinous rice with coconut sauce and ripe mango
and of course, Gai Hor Bai Toey - Thai pandan wrapped chicken served with homemade soy sesame sauce
And there were the runners-up:
Fried Appetizer Sampler - golden pouches, fried shrimp and Thai chicken skin
Muang Thai Salad - Pomelo macerated in panocha coconut syrup with char-grilled shrimp, roasted nuts and fried shrimp heads
Tom Yum Talay - Tom yum soup of charred shrimps, clams, squid and fish fillet
Khao Kluk Kapi - shrimp paste fried rice topped with egg sauce, fresh mango slices, raw shallots and cured pork bits
Satay Sampler Platter - a platter of Satay Goong, Satay Muu and Satay Gai with peanut sauce and Thai vinegar
Beef Short Ribs - with sauteed mushrooms, roasted pineapple and ground toasted rice
Spicy Basil Mixed Seafood - stir-fried shrimp, squid, clams and fish fillet with basil and turmeric
Coco Flan - Coconut custard with young coconut puree and tapioca
Congratulations, Muang Thai!

#BoodleBear @ Muang Thai PH
Sawadee ka! I have always fancied Thai Food. It’s exotic, fresh, sometimes spicy, but always mouth-wateringly delicious. As we wandered the streets of Bangkok in our recent trip to Thailand, I re-discovered that the secret ingredient of Thai food is ‘balance’. In every colorful dish, there seems to be a perfect harmony between sweet, sour, hot, and salty. Pungent fresh herbs, to all sorts of spices, offset by salty sauces, and finished off with a squeeze of lemon or lime. And yesterday, I might have just discovered a secret heaven of this amazing cuisine. Located in Teachers’ Village, Quezon City, Muang Thai Restaurant may be the only Thai restaurant you need in your life right now!
NEW RESTO FIND ALERT !
Its been a while since I enjoyed Thai food.
Seems there are no authentic Thai restaurant the family can explore in our usual haunts...
Great to be back at this Thai joint which now has an upgraded look and cozier ambiance. The four of us enjoyed Tom Yum Goong, chicken pandan with bigger-than usual, fish and beef dishes.
The place was really nice. It was just a little bit hot because the other air-conditioning was not switched on. Food was really delicious especially the pad thai. When it comes to customer service, the male waiter who assisted us in ordering was not too accomodating and also we waited for long just for the dessert since the female waiter forgot to tell our order in the counter. In conclusion, food was really good and the place was nice and cozy but for the service, I think they must give the customer -the feeling that they are very much welcome.
Friendly and prompt service. Restaurant is relatively new, so it's still very clean. Food is delicious, but portions could be bigger. It would be nice to see a larger selection of Thai dishes, especially Thai street food.
Great ambience. Staff are also courteous and accommodating.
The food will surely satisfy your Thai cravings. I certainly loved their deep fried pork with curry and their crunchy noodles with green curry (I forgot their names but they're really good!) Pad Thai is good as well but not the best I've had.
Overall I would really recommend this place ans I'd come back again - if there is one thing I wish Muang Thai would improve on it would be affordability or value for money. Servings tend to be on the smaller side.
Overall pretty good food! The plating was well done. I recommend the Tom Yum Goong and Pad Thai. The pork ribs was quite dry and tough. Although a very nice place! Great service! Quite the treat.
The place was very warm and comfortable. The light tones and warm lighting was great. The service was fine. The staff was very attentive to my needs. The chicken pandan was heavenly but the sauteed broccolli and mushrooms was on the sweet side which I didn't like. It was a nice eating experience.
Ambience and service were excellent. Food was good, but a lacking in serving; value for money could be improved. Best for me was the pandan chicken.
Great service and good food! Happy to have found a Thai place within our vicinity. Flavors are complex and interesting. Satisfied our Thai cravings 😊
It was our first time to try it last night and it did not disappoint. They really served Modern Thai Cuisine. Presentation is very nice and the taste is really unique per dish. Must order: chicken pandan. It was really juicy and you don't need to add sauce. The fish was really pricey and has a small serving. Overall, I liked the experience and the ambiance of the restaurant. A plus also is that they have a function room upstairs.
The best thai restaurant in the Philippines at a reasonable price. Our family favorite to go resto. All time fave would be bagoong rice, fish with tamrind sauce , pandan chicken and beef with vegetables.
I love Thai cuisine but it was my recent trip to Thailand that made me appreciate it in a whole new level. With its scrumptious and colorful food everywhere, I was tempted to go on a food crawl every day during my 2 week visit. Thankfully, we have a handful of reliable Thai restaurants in Manila to satisfy our Pad Thai, Tom Yum and Satay cravings. One establishment stood the test of time and has been delighting foodies for over two decades.
This week I found myself in a location strip I’ve never been to. It is a busy street parallel to familiar East Avenue, which has a number of residential and other business establishments. I was there in Malakas St. for a sponsored invite, a Thai restaurant designed to boost its neighborhood even more.
Muang Thai is your modern stop for Thai food. It embraces staples from that country, combined with their own twist. A foodie like me will find delight in how they recreated Thai dishes, incorporating either a bit of new flavor and/or presentation to it. It’s a 22-year-old restaurant that re-opened for a new look and menu.
“We traveled to Bangkok to really immerse ourselves in the culture and the cuisine, as we saw the opportunity to introduce a new kind of Thai to patrons in the industry. We hope that the new Muang Thai will be loved by both old & new patrons.”
The team behind Muang Thai is lead by their aspiring Chef, Jolo Morales. The place too got a much-needed facelift to fit its revamp.
These are the dishes I’ve had the chance to indulge in. I left with a full stomach and a smiling face.
For appetizers we had Spring Rolls but this time it was deep fried, paired with sweet & sour chili sauce; Yum Pla Dook Fu, traditional catfish with green mango salad; Yum Som-O, artistically plated pomelo macerated in panocha coconut syrup with char-grilled shrimp, roasted nuts & fried shrimp heads; Tom Yum Talay, a sour and spiced up soup of charred shrimps, clams, squid and fish fillet.
Go and order the Khao Kluk Kapi for your carbs, a shrimp paste rice topped with egg sauce, fresh mango slices, raw shallots & cured pork bits. Also a plate of Pad Thai is a must order too, its tamarind sauce boldly present with ample shrimps, chicken & fried tofu curds.
On viands, Chicken Pandan was my favorite. It bursted with flavors and smelled wonderful as well. We also had Satay Gai, a char-grilled chicken thighs with rich peanut sauce; Beef Short Ribs with sautéed mushrooms, roasted pineapple & ground roasted toasted rice in massaman curry; Mu Krob, a crispy pork belly with delicious curry sauce; and Fried Grouper with garlic sauce.
Classic desserts like Mango Sticky Rice and Coco Flan, a coconut custard with young coconut puree & tapioca are must orders.
The new Muang Thai restaurant officially opened just last September 26, 2018. It is located at 138 Malakas Street Diliman, Quezon City. They are open from Monday to Sunday, 11AM-10PM.
Let me start by saying that I’m not very familiar with Thai food, so I didn’t really know what to expect when I was invited for lunch by a friend.
I’m not going to list everything we ate, because it would take too long, so I’m going to single out some of the dishes below:
GOLDEN POUCHES – YUM! This is saying a lot because these fried dumplings are made with prawns and pork, and this guy doesn’t eat pork. I liked it so much, that I ate pork twice.
YUM PLA DOOK FU – Fried catfish with green mango salad. This dish had an awesome combination of salty and sour flavors, with crunchy and soft textures. Wish the serving was larger though.
KHAO KLUK-KAPI – I guess this is the Thai version of bagoong fried rice. Bagoong? Good! Fried Rice? Good! Green Mango? Good! Throw ‘em all together? GREAT!!!
PAD THAI – This is one dish that I’m familiar with, and Muang Thai rocks it.
The dark meat from the chicken in the SATAY GAI and the curry sauce from the BEEF SHORT RIBS, which I never eat, didn’t stop these two dishes from being my absolute favorites from everything that was thrown our way.
Our generous host concluded our meal by ordering every dessert on the menu. The MANGO STICKY RICE, COCO FLAN and TAKHO really stood out. Quick tip, the corn sauce from the Takho goes really well with the Mango Sticky Rice.
I don’t know how many dishes were brought out, but there were so many, that I got tired of taking pictures. Again, being a Thai newbie, I don’t really have anything to compare it to, nor can I say that it’s authentic. What I can say is that, in terms of taste, most of the dishes we tried were fantastic!
I’ve now found my go-to Thai restaurant, should I ever find myself craving or ever have to recommend one to a friend.
Knew about this restaurant at Booky. Gave it a try and I glad I did. Ambience was great. The staff is accommodating and their food is delicious. I will definitely return here.
Old habits die hard...
We were thrilled to know that one of our favorite Thai restos have re-opened after a long renovation process. The place had a facelift and it looked much modern now.
They still have the old favorites and we are couldn’t wait to try. We started the meal with some springrolls, very tasty, a little salty for my taste but its quite good together with the sauce.
The pad thai is forgetable as it turned out super soggy and the toppings does not look fresh at all... The chicken pandan is still a winner, very tasty and juicy except that one piece is uncooked in the center. The bagoong fried rice is good but not as good as before... The mango sticky rice tasted well but the serving size is too small for the price tag of Php110.00
The buko pandan tasted good but request your server to put little to no ice as 3/4 of the glass is filled with ice and after 1-2 sips its completely consumed.
Over-all these are forgivable since they are on their soft opening. Hope they improve the serving sizes and bring back the good old recipes.
