Good food at a very reasonable price and the place is really clean. If you like grilled food then you've gotta try Shao Kao, I also suggest the lamb BBQ it's really good. Honestly, aside from food I personally like the Lifehouse soundtrack played while we indulge ourselves.

Nanghihinayang ako sa mga panahon na hindi ko pinapansin ito. Madalas kasing puno kaya hindi ko na sinasadya. Pero the best dito! Parang ayaw ko na ngang kumain sa iba kapag nasa Maginhawa area.
Mura lang at malasa. Pinakagusto ko ang shiitake mushrooms at shrimp. Lahat ng gulay parang gusto mong subukan at kaya mo namang bilhin. Mukha lang di nakakabusog pero marami rin ang serving kaya ingat sa dami ng oorderin. Kahit steak nila, ok din ang pagkakaluto at timpla!
Sana lang maayos yung parang hindi tapos na entrance/babaang mabato at hindi sementado.

Food is tasty, it is one of the few places wherein I feel like I can go full vegetarian on the menu! There are enough varieties of proteins to choose from budget liempos and chicken to the more luxurious steaks. They serve in generous portions too, especially the corn.

This has always been our go to place at maginhawa whenever we are hungry (breakfast, lunch, dinner, you’ve guessed it). Our usual order would be the chicken and the sweet corn but everything is good! Its just that the place is not air conditioned so the place can be a little bit hot sometimes. :)

Highly recommended! Delicious grilled food at a very affordable price.
We had: Okra, Tomato, Onion, Shiitake, Broccoli, Bell pepper, Baby potato, Boneless chicken, Liempo, Boneless Bangus (legit boneless), Tofu, and Steak.
Minus the steak, our total bill was only a little over P600 and our tummies were already bursting! The additional P445 for the Angus Striploin Steak was also so worth it (sadly rib-eye wasn't available). They served it medium rare when we asked for medium well, but it was still so good. 👌🏽 I think they'd def take it back and cook it some more if we asked, but we were too hungry to wait. Serving time is around 20-25min (reasonable, since they're grilled to order).
I really love grilled food but I hate the idea of samgyup places bec I pay so much, only to cook my own food and smell like smoked viands afterwards. Here you still end up smelling like smoked food, but without the hassle of cooking and seasoning your own food 😂 Also like the local veggie choices, and you pay so much less.
A few cons:
Place is not air-conditioned so it can get really hot esp at noon.
No dedicated parking (on-street only).
Still would recommend and will definitely come back! They have GrabFood and they allow advanced orders for pick up, too!

Chanced upon this hole in the wall in Maginhawa which specializes in grilled food. Been here two times so far and it never disappoints. The marinade they use for their meats and veggies is so on point. I love how it made everything so tasty and juicy (and smoky). And their chili garlic is a perfect pair for the grilled meat.
The prices were also cheap and affordable so you can order a whole bunch of food without breaking the bank. It may take a while for your ordered food to be prepared since they grill it on the spot but I can assure you that it is worth the wait.
My favorite place in Maginhawa. Always the best place to eat when you're craving for meat and grilled food. They have a secret spice that makes even the vegetables so savory. My favorite order here is the lamb chop which is pretty cheap for lamb. Yum! I also order grilled veggies and corn because it's only here that vegetables taste like meat.
The food is cheap especially if you don't order rice. But I suggest ordering rice because they also have the tastiest chili garlic I've ever tasted. Wow wow! A must eat!

Sulit dito! I liked the whole grilled bangus, sweet corn, and eggplant. It's definitely one of the places in Maginhawa where you get extra for the affordable price you pay!
Ordered: grilled boneless chicken, shitake mushroom, and rice.
The price is very affordable, but the taste was amazing. I love how juicy and tender the shitake mushroom is. The signature "charred taste" of grilling the food did not overpower the fresh taste of the mushroom and chicken.

(+) One of my best discoveries in Maginhawa. Food is delicious and really affordable. Great place for students who have limited budget but still want to enjoy a good meal.
(+) Servers were polite, and also fast, considering the restaurant was full when we ate there.
(-) The place is just small. It has two floors but the space can get too crowded easily. It's also open and not airconditioned.
(-) Some dishes were not available when I went there (boneless chicken and fruit salad).
But those negative points don't really matter. I would come back again and again!!!

Great find! Delicious food and really affordable. Contrary to their name, their food tastes more Persian/Indian than Chinese. The spice rub they use is really tasty. All of their menu items, even the grilled vegetables, use the same spice rub. We had the boneless chicken, liempo, and porkloin steak. Would recommend the chicken the most. The chicken was really tender and flavorful. The food overall is really good. The portions are a bit small though so I recommend to get sides. The place is open (so no aircon) so it can get hot around noon. Side comment: they do have people coming in soliciting money so yun medyo awkward. Food is 5/5; place + experience 3/5.

This is a hole in the streets of Maginhawa. Where can you ever have what we had (2 lamb chops plus a platter of grilled veggies) for only P600?
The lamb chops were cooked okay, although not perfectly. Seasoning can be improved with a little bit more salt and pepper, but I think they have dipping sauces to solve that - sili, calamansi, vinegar, and soy sauce. A lamb chop costs only P250 and while it isn’t the best, it won’t disappoint as well. You get the best of what you pay for, imo.
The other grilled dishes such as grilled squash, mushroom, and tofu were the best for their price of less than P30 or a little over. Sobrang sulit, plus they’re generally healthy pa.
I wouldn’t say it’s my new fave place in Maginhawa (Provenciano pa rin), but I’d keep coming back whenever I’m on a tight budget.

My friends and I ordered liempo, barbecue, sitaw, hungarian sausage and chinese tofu. Masarap yung seasoning nila. Affordable lalo na for a student like me. Can get too hot sometimes since electric fans lang ang meron, and limited parking. Would still come back tho since masarap talaga yung food.

My mother is such a budding foodie (late bloomer, haha). She saw an episode of Pop Talk(?) feat Atom Araullo's fave eats and had immediately beckoned to us to try Shao Kao when we go visit UP for one of our jogging/walking trips. And when she mentioned it's dirt cheap, how can we resist?? 😁
One of the rare times when I enjoyed the side dishes more than the mains. I think I'm beginning to love veggies. Waaaah, what's wrong with me??!! 😂😂 Seasoning's on point for all the veggies, but I'm partial to the squash, onions and sweet corn. The meats are ok, but the lamb is a bit too tough for me, especially since there's no knife and I had to make do with just the spoon and fork. But at P160/order, you can't really complain.
There's no private parking available, so you'll have to parallel park along the narrow street. It's within a residential area so be careful not to block the neighboring houses' driveways.

Delicious, great value for money, and nice overall vibe! Not pretentious at all unlike the many other establishments in this area - it's chill with just straight up good food. We got sticks of boneless chicken, tofu, corn, squash, eggplant, tomato, liempo, potato, and mushroom. Love the many veggie options! The squash was by far my favorite. 💯🤤 but everything else was also super tasty, flavorful and well-seasoned. Next time i come back i am getting the squash, tomato, chicken, and corn. Highly recommended!

Food was good and cheap. There were plenty of vegetarian options so I enjoyed this place a lot. All seating is al fresco, system is efficient and the sauce for dipping is sufficiently provided. New fave place bec it's hard to find a feast of veggies in this city and at this price!!!!

Food for breezy nights, Shao Kao is unexpectedly good. The food looks so simple but is a good mix of savory and dry (?) I like that they have lots of skewered veggies so if you have Friends With A Cause, this is a pretty good place. Try the liempo and whichever veggie is your fave (the carrots are good).
For the price, it definitely deserves its 5 ⭐️ rating from me. Try their Lamb Chops (shoulder or leg) for a tasty, juicy and tender meat. My sister loved their savory Boneless Chicken. Their Pita Bread is quite thick and filling--not like the usual ones that one can buy from Arab restos. The service is adequate and efficient. The place is quite small; I cannot imagine how busy it is during mealtimes. I'll certainly go back to this place whenever I'm in the area!

Still the best grill in Maginhawa. Our staple orders include the pork steak, broccoli, tofu, and mushroom. However, the prices are higher than before and the seasoning of the pork steak is not always consistent. Another downside is that despite EO 26, there are still smokers in the area which ruins the dining experience, especially since they smoke while on their tables and not at some distance from the restaurant. 😬
Glad I gave the place a try! They have the most affordable selection of food. Since I don't eat meat, the meal we had only costed us less than P300! Very cheap and the vegetables and tofu tasted really good you would want to order another cup of rice! Would definitely go back!
Shao Kao is one of my favorite Maginhawa restaurants because it's affordable and most of the time grilled really well. I always order the lamb leg chop and although the way it is cooked isn't always consistent, the times they get it right, the lamb is heaven in my mouth. I generally love how it is seasoned. The place used to be really small but I came back recently to see they've added a second floor. It also isn't airconditioned but this no-frills restaurant is good for a quick and filling meal.
I frequent Shao Kao even before their renovations and expanded menu. The food is cheap and the ambience is very conducive for eating with friends. I always order grilled boneless chicken with rice and a side of shredded corn. :)
If you're into vegetables then this is really something you should try. Actually, I don't usually eat vegetables but when I got to taste the menu of this place I was able to eat a lot. They have young corn, eggplant, sitaw, green bell peppers, sweet corn and chinese tofu to name a few. Food was nicely prepared and tasty that you would really enjoy eating veggies.
BTW, they also have choices of meat so if you're not into veggies you still have other options in their menu.
Place and ambiance is just small and simple.
Located on a side street near Maginhawa, their ambience is simple but quite homey as eating here made me feel like I am having a vacation in my hometown province. Their grilled food is surprisingly affordable as I could buy lamb chops for just around P130. They even have cheap vegetable add ons with great variety ranging from baby potatoes to broccoli. Their beef angus sukiyaki was a bit chewy though. But overall, I have discovered a great hiding place!
