This is the go to place when you're drunk and wants some middle of the night shabu shabu with your friends. It's affordable and worth your money.
Probably one of the most worth it shabu-shabu/ grill places for me. If you are craving for both samgyupsal and shabu-shabu at the same time and don't want the eat all you can type, I would recommend this place. The food here is good and you won't leave here feeling hungry. They have a limited parking space but just like any other restaurant in Tomas Morato, you can park in the side streets.
Discovered this gem during my shabu-shabu addiction phase. It's cheap, and the ala carte order with few add ons were more than enough for me and my partner. Surely giving my money's worth, and the quality isn't bad as well. 10/10 coming back to this place.
1970’s Shabu Shabu is worth every cent. The quantity for a modest price is good for 3-4 persons. This is one of our go to places in Tomas Morato.
Korean dishes has been all over the place for quite a while and this place is no different, though it was really good there are some notes to consider when dining on this place. The servers and crew are really nice, the place is a tad rustic in a way that when you think of an old resto this is the place you will see. Cool ambiance yet it’s clean. One negative thing that i noticed was that the burner was kind of old where the control knob for the flame is not working properly and it’s kind of scary sometimes that it can break anytime soon, although that might have been a 1 off thing. Overall the place has a cool dining experience
Still my favorite shabu shabu place, one order is good for 2 people, or maybe because I'm really not that of heavy eater. The simplicity of the place makes it feel authentic and they serve a lot of banchan/side dishes which I looooove. With kpop songs as background music, and friendly staff, who wouldn't enjoy their stay here?
This is the first K-BBQ I've ever went to and it has never disappointed me. This place is one of the most non-pretentious and one of the most authentic K-BBQ place I've ever been to. They have LOTS of side dishes to choose from. Meat has good quality. And my most favorite from them is the bibimbap. The place is just lowkey with the interiors—kinda looks like an ordinary restaurant for me. I think their theme is a 70's style korean restaurant. But this place has never failed to satisfy me. 💕
Been visiting this place for years! The service is always great and the food is affordable and delicious.
We always order the shabu shabu set and extra food on the side and it never fail to satisfy us
A place we would go to over and over again. The shabu shabu and the grill are just super sulit. For 499, you get more than your money’s worth. Like any samgyupsal resto, the banchan is unlimited. Their service is likewise topnotch. The servers were polite, nice and welcoming. The place tho looks a bit rundown, but I think it is just part of its charm
One of my fave korean bbq joints! Price is average! Meat is always fresh! Love their gochujang samgyupsal! Best kimchi that I ever tasted. There’s lot of variety when it comes to side dishes!
We always eat here after Sunday mass because the service is good, food is amazing and it’s really affordable! 600 pesos only for 4 (1 senior) pax how reasonable is that?!
This restaurant introduced us to samgyeopsal, 4-5 years ago. We were dining here almost every week that time but there will always be a point in time when one had too much beef and pork so we stopped. You will not be disappointed with the banchan, request for additionals all you want except for the steamed egg and adobo egg, one serving per table only. The interior needs alot of improvement maybe the reason why meals are cheap here, they focus on the food rather the interior/ambience of the restaurant.
Great food. Reasonable price. Hospitable staff. Their kimchi soup is to die for. You’ll know it is authentic because a lot of koreans are eating there. I will go back here again for sure.
My favorite Korean restaurant!
Price - 5/5
Taste - 5/5
Service - 5/5
What I love most about his place are the side dishes. Their kimchi tastes really good. My favorite are the egg soup and eggplant!
I don’t really eat beef so this review will mainly be about their Samgyupsal. The meat they serve was neatly cut. It was served with carrots and tofu. The meat was tender. I’ve been here numerous times. I go here almost every week and I can assure you their meat is always tender.
I feel pure joy every time I take a bite of their Samgyupsal wrapped in lettuce that’s dipped in their peanut sauce. I also pair it with some garlic that you can request from their staff. My tip is to of course cook the garlic before eating it with the meat.
The prices of the things on their menu are also very reasonable. I always ended up spending 380 pesos every visit.
280 - Samgyupsal
50 - Rice
50 - Coke
Their Samgyupsal is best paired with coke!
Kudos to Gino! He’s the best waiter there. My friend and I go there so often that he’s got our orders memorized. He gets everything ready for us even before we officially place our orders.
1970 Grill is an old-classroom-themed Korean restaurant few steps from the well-known Tomas Morato Avenue. Perfect for your korean-food midnight cravings, since they’re open from 5:00 PM until 6:00 AM the next day. I used to go here (around 2016) with my former roommates – yes, we all love Korean food. Yesterday, I realized how I missed this place, and so then decided to invite my partner to go here for dinner.
This place offers good Korean food for affordable prices. Their menu is limited to soups and samgyeopsal choices which serves to their advantage. They’re able to provide essential ingredients and dishes because of their focused selection in the menu. They’re also not stingy on their side dishes. This is my go-to Korean place when I’m in Morato. Friendly staff. You may want to call beforehand to check on the available tables. There’s usually a line here, but it’s worth the wait.
beef shabu-shabu with unli soup for less than PhP500! enough said. been going here since they opened. also the best soup spot for Morato after-drinks since they open until very very late.
After our Tagaytay day trip, we went straight here, 1970 Grill. It isn't a buffet korean grill like O Ga Ne, Don Day, or Leann. By the way, I like those restaurants, especially Leann. 1970 offers shabu shabu, which we didn't order. We had beef grill worth 350. Kinda pricey for me, to think you could have an unlimited meat grill already for around 400. Tho, looking at the good side, you get to have an unlimited side dishes that are really good. The interior is just okay. Nothing too extravagant.
This place is where my friends and i usually go to whenever we feel absolutely famished, or to sober ourselves up. We only order one thing: the shabu shabu (450) with a side order of congee (+100).
You will be given a plate full of thinly-sliced beef, vegetables(corn, bok choy, sweet potatoes, potatoes, squash), noodles, tofu, fishcake, and an egg. You'd also get a burner, as well as a metal bowl with broth. I highly suggest you order congee (they will gove u a bowl with an egg, rice, and seaweed. You can ask the waiters to prepare it for you) so that after you finish the aforementioned shabu shabu ingredients, you can have a taste of yummy lugaw just bursting with umami!
They also offer a wide range of side dishes, unlimited! They have pickles, eggs, kimchi, egg stew 💕, pajeon and potatoes.
I swear, 550 pesos will fill you and a couple more friends up so much on those days where you just feel sooo hungry! Or, after a long night of drinking, will whisk away the hangover the next day. I recommend this place for groups of friends. There's something about the shabu shabu that will bring all of you together 💕🤙🏽
Am not a fan of korean of food so my judgement is based from someone who knows very little about bibimbap and hotpot and kimchi. Just amazed how much side dishes were placed on our table. Love their bibimbap.
Discovered this place cause of some friends. It's not in the main area of Tomas Morato where all the cars and people are hustling and bustling around, but rather it's located in in a bit of a quiet residential side street that provides some sort of privacy and quiet simplicity.
I was surprised by the amount of people inside, not to mention the amount of cars outside that made finding a parking a bit of a challenge. I wasn't sure what to expect actually given its name sounding a bit western but to my surprise, it's korean.
Upon entering, you're welcomed by a simple interior with tables set up close together, each with a pot of shabu-shabu boiling gently. Perhaps one word to describe it is lively. However, it felt like a step back in time as well with the warm lighting and simple and relatively old designs. Due to the interior layout, it felt small. Maybe it is a bit small. The kitchen was within view as well, not in the glass encased showoff way of restaurants but in the way that they don't have anymore space kind of showoff.
We ordered the shabu-shabu meal along with an order of their grilled pork belly (which they cook for you). I wasn't so sure about the shabu-shabu since it was a bit small. They offered some vegetables, a half corn, a crab ball, a dumpling, etc. It wasn't a great impression. To see a single piece of each felt like I was being skimped on. The shabu-shabu was divided into two sections where one side has noodles. As for the sauce, they only gave 1 raw egg, so we just combined and shared a single sauce. (Again with the feeling of being skimped on.) As with any korean restaurants, they offered appetizers such as egg, togue, kimchi pajeon, batter fried eggplant (I think), kimchi, and a few others. According to my companions, their egg (slices) appetizer is not available for refill but the other appetizers are. The pork belly was around 7-8 pieces of meat with some needle mushrooms and two rounds of sweet potato I think. It was quite small. In retrospect, it would've been more cost-efficient or a value-for-money decision to order two of the shabu-shabu ingredients rather than ordering the pork belly. Admittedly, the "soup" of the shabu-shabu was what really satisfied my hunger. So, not the best but given the price, it makes sense and I wouldn't mind going for it again with the price of the shabu-shabu shared by three of us. I just hate how it felt like I was being skimped on with the single ingredients per variety and single raw egg for the sauce. (You can ask for more of the soup refill by the way)
Def one of my fave korean place! Awesome comfort food and very filling too! Definition of a perfect date night for me and my boyfie 💖 very cheap too, highly recommended!
My favourite korean restaurant. Their kimchi is definitely one of the best and the cabbage soup is perfect during rainy days.
I always go back here, the place is very cozy.
Bring your friends for a shabu-shabu treat or drink up a soju with your significant other
Happy cooking. Happy eating. The vibe is
like as if you're eating at Korea. Tried their Beef Shabu-shabu and Pork Belly.Condiments are complete so you can mix and match your food according to your tastebuds. They have friendly servers. Best for bonding with friends and family because the place is cozy.
A ragged restaurant in a smaller sct. street near Tomas morato, this is in my list if I'm in the mood for Korean food.
Not the most charming interior and ambience, and like most Korean joints, you will most likely smell of grilled meat when you leave.
What keeps me coming back is their basic menu that's enough to get my Korean fix for the night.
We usually get beef belly and kimchi soup. They don't have a plethora of sides; but I enjoy the simple egg soup, chopped cabbage with sesame vinaigrette, fried eggplant and some sort of boiled egg adobo.
If you're looking to explore the cuisine and choose from a wide array of Korean dishes from the bibimbap to different kinds of noodles, 1970 is not the place to go.
1970 grill is perfect if you just want straight up, 'unfuzzy' Korean food. Sort of like a less commercialized Mang inasal for Filipino food.
Funny how we ended up in 1970 grill after getting all dance crazy in 80's cafe! Bulgogi soup was fantabulous! Not too spicy with a sweet after taste. Plenty of kimchi and shredded pickled cabbage for free as appetizers. Got the pork set and it was enough to feed 6 alcohol infused hyper folks. Meat seasoning was just right. Not too salty but not bland as well. They're open till 6am so this is the best place to head to after getting crazy in Timog.
It's a bit hard to find cause some maps got it wrong. But going here is well worth it... The shabu shabu is great and the sauce is awesome. Its nothing big or fancy. But what they lack with their space area they make up with their food. Its not pricey not cheap basically in the mid. I'm pretty sure you will agree with me once you've tried it... Whatever you spent is well worth it.
My favorite korean restaurant! Unlimited kimchi, miso soup, lettuce & cabbage!! My girlfriend and I always eat here whenever we are very hungry!
Pretty good place for Korean grilled food. Cool 1970 style classroom interior. We had a lotta meat for 2100 only! Was lazy to cook today so we had them prepare it. Serving size and taste was good.
Make sure you order the Bulgogi Soup here. The broth is sweet with a spiciness at the end of each slurp. It is filled with veggies, sotanghon and beef, and for only Php450, it is sulit!
Most people order their shabu shabu though because it seems to be the most sulit in the whole menu. It is, and it is good, but the Bulgogi Soup is way better.
The grills are so-so. The meat doesn't have that charred effect I look for in grilled meat but the taste is still good. Their unlimited kimchi is very good because it has just the right amount of spicy and sour.
Service is superb. The servers were all very attentive, quick, proactive and knowledgeable of the menu. I like that they sound genuine when they greet you upon arrival and when you leave.
Parking is difficult here though so be warned! The interior is simple and a bit odd, with mini wooden chairs stuck on the wall and old Korean school books. It does look like a blast from the past inside.
No frills, very good service, simple menu, good food, cheap prices. Highly recommended!
taste authentic korean food. at forst i tought its a filipino or steak house because of the name. price is super ok.service is great. a must place for korean food lovers
Very affordable, good food. Unlimited kimchi.. By the the way its korean resto not japanese..
Very delicious yet affordable..im planning to bring my girlfriend here when she arrives from japan..by the way,i believe they have korean cuisine...definitely a must try...para maiba naman. -july
