One of my fave restaurant to go to whenever i'm in the area. Pinoy faves like you've never tasted before. Have tried like a quarter of the menu and still have not been disappointed so far. Favorites are the Crispy Pata, Lechon Kawali, Fried Chicken Skin and their Pansit is definitely one of a kind. #succulent #delish #affordable #musttry

A little bit pricey comparing to other Filipino restaurants out there but definitely worth a try! Their daguan boneless bangus may be 680 pesos but it can feed 2-3 persons: very crispy and tasty.
Sinigang na baboy was also perfect!

Food: sumptuous! Ordered most of their best sellers. Indeed, it all tastes good. Beef salpicao is glorious however, serving size is quite small for this. We should've had ordered 2 plates.
🤤

Price: Booked our reservation thru Eatigo so yeah, it's a steal! 50% off for all the dishes (except drinks). Without the discount it would be a little pricey as well.

Ambiance and Location: Quite small but well lit.

Service: Great staff! Quick service.

This is recommended for family gatherings.

What started as a small restaurant in Makati Medical Center around 50 years ago has now rebranded themselves into the filipino comfort food scene. The small place had a lite and homey feel. The food was great. We ordered classic favorites such as Adobong Fried Rice, Pork Sisig, Fried Chicken, Gambas, Beef Salpicao, and Gising-Gising. The meat were sumptuously juicy and tender. I personally loved the thick coconut milk of the gising-gising. The fried chicken and adobo rice were good for 3-4 persons with huge portions. This restaurant offers great food and memories, and will definitely vie into the mainstream filipino restaurant industry.

Had our family dinner last night. Our orders of Chicken Pork Adobo, Rellenong Talong, GisingGising and Crab&Corn equated to a perfect combination. Fully satisfied with the food, service and value for money. We should have more of these places 👍🏼

Do you notice what’s common in all my photos (ergo in all my visits!)??? The extra large deep fried Dagupan bangus of course! This is what we go to Floating Island for and the bonus is all their other dishes are pretty good too like the gambas, salpicao, gising gising (I think it’s just their sisig that was just average).

Thanks for having a branch in Pasig, now I don’t need to go to the Makati branch nor to Nuvali or Tagaytay (at LZM) to have my huge deep-fried Dagupan bangus craving satisfied!

This restaurant is currently on the free Eatigo app where you can reserve a time slot and get up to 50% off your total food bill when you dine in. Download the app and when you register, you can input my referral code “EatigoRia” for additional freebie/s, and you can start enjoying dining with discounts!

Seldom have I visited a restaurant wherein I enjoyed the experience of eating with friends and exchanging stories with the owner. Once you enter Floating Island Restaurant, you are welcomed with a sort of shabby chic homey ambiance, a mix of blue and white with that fantastic lighting that makes you forget the restaurant only occupies a small corner of Ayala Malls the 30th. It feels warm, cozy and inviting, and the staff can be equally described.

At first, I was kind of hesitant about the food. They first served soup and crackers, sandwiches cut up in triangles for easy handling. Thinking of the restaurant's backstory of serving food in a hospital, I did not entirely expect anything. I was a bit clueless about its history so pardon this reaction.

But as we spoke with the second generwtion owner, Alex Revilla, I suddenly realized that although you can say the menu is a mishmash of evrything they and their friends enjoy eating, it cohesively brings out that wonderful charm of the place.

We were served a spread of their bestsellers. Everything was surprisingly enjoyable, and reasonably priced too, I assure you!

* Chicken Asparagus Sandwich (P175)
- Looked unassuming to me but first word that came to mind was "comforting". This was served cut up in neat triangles with the crusts off, reminded me of how an aunt of mine would make sandwiches for me and my brother. Each mouthful was a comforting medley of chicken and asparagus, and nope, they did not skimp on the sandwich filling.

* Medical Club Sandwich (P210)
- Typical bacon and egg sandwich, again served with the crusts off.

* Pancakes with Sausage (P280)
- Fluffy pancakes with sausages on the side, perfect for breakfast. Tip: Dunk it in syrup or eat with morsels of their sizzling chicken for a chicken and waffles kind of treat.

* Sotanghon Guisado (P240)
- Very flavorful pancit. Big serving that's good for sharing too!

* Chinese Mixed Vegetables (P250)

* Bagoong Rice (P230)
- Topped with slivers of green mango on top, this serves as the perfect foil to every dish they presented.

* Beef Steak Filipino (P320)
- Tender beef steak slices, cooked lovingly the Filipino bistek way, with lots of onions and that familiar acidity brought by the calamansi.

* Sizzling Boneless Bangus (P350)
- This boneless bangus definitely makes it to my list of seafood dishes here. It's topped with garlic bits and comes in a sizzling plate so better get your rice ready!

* Sizzling Squid Sisig (P270)
- At first it looks like normal pork sisig, but once you get a mouthful, you can't help but notice the natural umami the squid brings to this sizzling plate of yumminess!

* Sizzling Chicken (P410)
- This came on a sizzling plate smothered with rich gravy. Here's a different way of enjoying chicken that's succulent and tasty!

* Calamares Fritos (P275)
- Crispy and crunchy withe the calamari cooked just right. Perfect amount of batter too!

* Chicken Skin (P170)
- Sinful crackling goodness that makes ou want to take bite after bite.

* Crispy Pata (P690)
- This was a last minute addition to our spread. Sir Alex can't help but boast about their Crispy Pata version toppin those of other establishment. I don't blame him! Every crackle of the skin, plus the juicy pork paired with the sweet sour tang of their homemade atchara adds up to the delicious dish, definitely the pride of Floating Island.

Ended our meal with refreshing fruit slices off their Fresh Fruit Platter (P200) and the decadent flan-like sweetness of the Pudding de Leche (P120).

* The Floating Island Restaurant's name was inspired by the then cantilevered facade of the Makati Medical Center. As the original restaurant was located at this part of the hospital, the name stuck. They also cater to different hospitals in the metro but under individual names already. The owners opted to keep the monicker for their stand-alone branch as an homage to the original Makati Med restaurant. Most of the employess are also 3rd and 2nd generation relatives of the original employees of the original resto.

And lastly their Chicken Skin all time favorite! You wont stop munchin this snack!! A slight touch of vinegar then bam!! Rice and chew its all good!

Located in Ayala Malls the 30th, this restaurant has been around for some time now and they continue to bring comfort food for families. Their first branch is in Makati Medical Center which is located in a floating area hence the name. Surprisingly, their Filipino food might be common but the taste is different from what we are used to.
Even their Nido soup tasted so good!

We had:

Sotanghon Guisado - Their version does not have that Chinese taste to it but I love it. Noodles were cooked firmly topped with crisp, fresh vegetables.

Chinese Mixed Vegetables - Another crisp vegetable with the oyster sauce. Very delicious. Surely, vegetable lovers will enjoy this.

Beef Steak Filipino - Tender meat in its sauce. Just the smell of this will make you ask for rice already. Really delicious.

Chicken Skin – Addicting! These thin crisps of goodness surely aren’t good to be consumed by just one person in one sitting. You will be tempted to because it was so good.

Sizzling Boneless Bangus – Placed on a sizzling plate for that added crunchiness to the fish. I like that it has the right amount of sourness being it marinated in vinegar instead of soy sauce. Exactly how I wanted this milkfish done.

Sizzling Squid Sisig – Chopped squid placed on a sizzling plate. Flavorful! The tenderness of the squid burst in your mouth with all its flavors.

Calamares Fritos – Dipped in batter and then fried to perfection. These squids were tender and fried to perfection.

Crispy Pata – One of their strongest dishes here and I must agree. It was really good. It tasted good even without the soy sauce. Make sure to have some Atsara added to have that added flavor.

We ended our meal with their Pudding de Leche. I highly suggest you visit them for you to try these awesome dishes. A scrumptious meal at its finest.

Floating Island Restaurant has been around since the 1960s with its first branch inside Makati Medical Center. They’ve been catering good ole’ homecooked Filipino dishes for over 50 years.

It’s just been recently that they branched out a second branch in Ayala Malls the 30th. With this, they also ventured into different cuisines aside from their siganture Filipino food. They have Italian and Japanese dishes on their menu. As for me, I still liked best their Filipino offerings. What got me the most was that their food is unpretentious, it’s classic and traditional Filipino. Which is somehow rare in today’s food scene.

We were recently invited for a foodie meet-up and got to try some of their dishes, below are my top picks —

🍽 Crispy Pata
Let’s admit it. Nothing beats a classic, fatty and crispy pork knuckle dish. Floating Island’s crispy pata has huge servings and didn’t disappoint in terms of taste.

🍽 Fried Chicken Skin
Good ole’ chicken skin. Super crispy and what I liked best was that it’s not too oily. Good for pulutan too! 😅

🍽 Bagoong Rice
A nice alternative from our usual plain rice. It’s tasty on its own already.

🍽 Sizzling Squid Sisig
Super loved this! It’s perfectly paired with the Bagoong Rice. The quid wasn’t chewy and with just the right amount of saltiness.

🍽 Sizzling Bangus
The fish was soft and boneless, really good and a nice option of you’re opting for a “healthier” dish unlike the Crispy Pata and Chicken Skin. 😅

Aside from these, they also had us try the following — Chicken Asparagus Sandwich, Bacon & Egg Sandwich, Fruit Platter, Pancake & Sausage, Sotanghon Guisado, Nido Soup, Sizzling Chicken, Calamares Frittos, etc.

Areas for improvement in my opinion would be the Bacon & Egg Sandwich, it was bland and a bit dry. Also the pancakes, well maybe I ate it cold already but it’s also dry and could use more flavor.

Service was nice, the servers are attentive and friendly. Price point? Not too bad. If you’re craving for classic Filipino food with an affordable price tag, drop by Floating Island in Ayala Malls the 30th. 👍🏻

What a crappy feeling every time you have to go to a hospital. Either you’re sick, got into an accident, and sometimes you have to endure the pain of labor. I have mistakenly thought of this restaurant as a seafood place because of the monicker.Floating Island. It was told that this restaurant was established months after Makati Med was built in 1969.The name came from the entrance ramp ,bridgelike of the hospital which was only has a cantilever support that's where the word "floating "came from.Clientele both now and then are from the hospital, until it became a word of mouth how good the food are.

This branch is situated in Ayala the 30th mall.Interiors are invigorated with blue, gray and white hues, simple elegant furnishings.

My impression was that this restaurant won't last this long if the food was not great. As the dishes arrived you can smell aroma after aroma of delicious familiar multiple genre of cuisines from local,Chinese and western inspired dishes.A sign of good things to come.We were also informed that some of the dishes were discontinued depends on the demand.

We're served both breakfast and lunch items .Will just enumerate the items then will give my top picks.
*Chicken Asparagus Sandwich
*Med Club Sandwich
*Fruit Platter
*Pudding De peche
*Pancake and sausage
*Nido Soup
*Sotanghon Guisado
*Beef Steak Filipino
*Sizzling Bangus
*Sizzling Chicken
*Sizzling Squid Sisig
*Crispy Para
*Crunchy Chicken Skin
*Calamares Frittos
*Chinese Mixed Vegetables
*Bagoong Rice

So generous,so grandma.
Here's my picks:

Sotanghon Guisado - Im not a big fan of this dish but after having it,I became a convert.Love the aroma, reminiscent of the home cooked version of yesteryears.Nice firm noodles with loads of perfectly cooked veggies.

Beef Steak Filipino another dish that brought back nostalgia.Tender cuts of beef in citrussy marinade.Classic Pinoy lutong bahay treat.

Chinese Mixed Veggies - tasty vegetables cooked in oyster sauce.Basic yet charming to the taste buds.

Sizzling Squid Sisig- an interesting spin on the famous pork dish.Squid cut into bits in mild spicy seasoning, love the nibbling texture of the squid.

Crunchy Chicken Skin- a counterpoint to the pork crackling, chicken chicharones that won't be left out by its swine counterpart in taste and in crunch.

Crispy Pata - phenomenal ,I don't know how they perfected the art of crafting this dish, great crispy skin, the meat is tasty ,the marinade really permeates into every tissue of the hamhock.Totally a centerpiece of the meal.Sarap to the bone.

Pudding de leche- interesting liquorish flavor into this simple dessert.

The verdict -a Happy Place,if they already in the business for over 45 years I wish and hope that they last a hundred more.Simple
unadulterated comfort food.Old school is cool.

Floating Island Restaurant easily takes one of the higher spots when it comes to classic Filipino dishes and comfort food. I know what you’re thinking. Yes, it’s the same restaurant as the one in Makati Medical City. After decades, they decided to bring this gem to a mall. I remember eating in the MMC branch one or twice but that was a long time ago.

Upon entering this restaurant, you will immediately feel at home and relaxed. The interiors and ambiance is inviting and cozy. The dishes served were beyond delectable. Let me just share some of my favorites. First is the Bird’s Nest with Quail Egg. It’s not too salty and the texture is just right. Another is the Medical Club Sandwich. I love anything with cheese and this is one of the best club sandwiches that I’ve had. Their Bagoong Rice is the perfect companion for all of their “ulams”. Their Chinese Mixed Vegetables, Sizzling Squid Sisig (way healthier than pork sisig), Beef Steak Filipino, Calamares Fritos, and Crispy Pata are equally pleasing and satisfying. The pancakes were soft and fluffy. The Sotanghon Guisado was also notable. Their Pudding De Leche is like a firmer leche flan but still as delicious. My number one, however, goes to their Chicken Skin. This, by far, is the best chicken skin ever! They scraped off all the fatty elements that, typically, stuck under the skin and fried it with a nice batter. I will go back again and again just for this.

In sum, I will choose Floating Island Restaurant over some of the more popular Filipino restaurants because they care about the quality and consistency of their food like no other.

Food taste and quality- it all boils down to this main component. They were able to maintain their consistency in terms of cooking good food and well use if ingredients. Everything that was served reminded me of my childhood.

Serving portions are big good enough for sharing. I highly recommend getting the sizzling squid,
Nido soup, crispy pata and chicken skin. I’ll be back definitely.

I can’t remember exactly when is the last time I enjoyed Filipino classics so much. It’s not that I don’t want it but of course if I have other options I would prefer Japanese or Mexican food. The usual worries when we have balikbayan friends or families is where to take them out especially if they want to satisfy their cravings for Filipino dishes. I’m glad I tried the Floating Island Restaurant located at the 2nd floor of Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig City. Wifey is quite familiar about it but honestly I’ve never heard about this restaurant so I’m amazed that it has been in the food industry since 1969. The first branch is located at Makati Medical Center where their food became the comfort food of every hospital staff, doctors, visitors and even patients. I must say that their dishes are really awesome pure Filipino without being too complicated. It’s like coming home to your Mom’s or Grandma’s old-fashioned Kare-Kare! We sampled almost half of their menu and below our the items that I can personally recommend.

Wasn't able to take any photo of the food but was able to capture their lights which caught my eyes. Actually nothing much special with the food and some were salty especially the birds nest soup. If I am to rate the food that we had from 1-5, 5 as the highest, it would be:

Birds Nest Soup - 2.5 salty
Tinapa Lumpia - 2.5 hardly find the tinapa strips. It's air inside with some "noodle" strands.
Gising - gising - 4 this one i liked with a creamy coco milk and mild spiciness
Adobong Kangkong -2.5 didn't tried this but they all said it's also salty so the rate
Beef Steak - 4 not bad, tastes good but nothing special. Onion overloaded
Sizzling Bangus - 3 another onion overloaded
Chicken Skin - 4 likes it plus the crispiness, not healthy though
Green Mango Shake - 4 my all time shake favorite wherever i go and didn't disappoint me
Papaya Shake - 4 fresh and tastes good
Steamed Rice - giving 2.5 just because it's 40php per cup, haha.

Overall, nothing really special, not bad, a little pricey for the kind of food they served but satisfied with the ambience and my green mango shake.

Will I go back? Surely if someone's gonna treat me. 😹

Floating Island Restaurant has newly opened its second branch in Ayala Malls The 30th in Pasig City. The name sounds very familiar to me because I had tried their huge siopao before in their first branch in Makati Medical Center which I can’t forget until now. The  business started in 1969 and still up until now because with no doubt their dishes continues to bring comfort and happiness to every customer. What I admired about this restaurant they know how to value their people, some of the employees in this branch (Pasig) are the third generations of their employees in Makati. The interior is very homey as if you’re waiting for your home-cooked meals out of your kitchen.

Beef Tapa from Floating Island
One thing I love with breakfast is you can eat it anytime of the day. The beef tapa from Floating Island is on the sweet side but it is balanced nicely with the spicy vinegar and atchara. The eggs were cooked perfectly and you got to love an egg with a runny yolk but a firm white.

Floating Island's fried food is absolutely delicious. My favorite dish was the Crispy Pata - the skin was fried to crispy perfection, while the meat inside stayed completely tender 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Their Bangus also gets top marks. This was also perfectly fried, and especially tasty, as they get this from Dagupan.

Their Salpicao was garlicky good. The beef was very tasty, as if it had been marinated for at least a day.

And last but not least, this dish probably surprised me the most - the gising gising. I absolutely hate vegetables, but I wouldn't mind eating more veggies if they all tasted this good. The dish consists of green beans and ground pork cooked in a coconut milk and bagoong (a shrimp paste) for added flavor.

The servings are quite generous, so make sure to bring your family and friends when you visit.

Floating Island is celebrating a decade already in the business and that only proves that they have good and quality food. Originally a small restaurant at Makati Med at 1969, they managed to keep the business up until now. What I admire them most is how they take care of the employees. The owner told us that some of the employees are from the third generation passed from the elders who used to work at the first branch of Floating Island. From there, you can prove that the bond and trust with each other between the owner and the employee is something we should admire.

Speaking of good food, they specialize in Filipino cuisine, more like a comfort food for me since I believe that there's no other cuisine like our own.

You know the food is good when it is already around the business for decades already. The fun thing about it is that if it becomes a part of your history as well. That would be my best description about Floating Island Restaurant, a very well-known restaurant at Makati Med, branched out to Ayala Malls 30th.

The interiors were very simple, nothing too fancy but everything was pleasing to the eye. The staff was very helpful and accommodating to us. Most of the people working there, even the owner, were either 2nd or 3rd generation employee of the restaurant. I guess it runs in the family.

Everything was really good and well seasoned that we really enjoyed eating the food that was served. Keeping the same taste for over several decades gives its charm to old timers and patrons of the restaurant. They keep on innovating as well, introducing dishes from time to time. Since they have a very small kitchen, they can't afford to store up perishables so everything is fresh. Here are some of my recommendations:

- Tokwat's Baboy (160 php)
- Chicken Skin (150 php)
- Gambas (350 php)
- Crispy Pata (690 php good for 2-3 pax)
- Lechon Kawali (350 php)
- Dagupan Boneless Bangus (630 php good for 2-3 pax)
- Pinakbet (275 php good for 1-2 pax)
- Gising Gising (150 php good for 1-2 pax)
- Lomi (210 php)
- Pansit Maria (Their original recipe) (260 php)
- Adobo Rice (380 php good for 2-3 pax)

If you are looking for straight up Filipino comfort food then look no further as this will make your day. Great food plus great service will merit a very good dining experience.

This is probably one of the wildest restaurant visits ever! Floating Restaurant had us tried almost every single dish in their menu and I have no complains! Just a happy tummy and happy me! HAHAHAHAHA!!

Floating Island restaurant is rich in history as they have been in the business since 1969. It's kind of refreshing to hear that a restaurant lasted that long! That only means they are doing something right. And I'm so happy that even though I am not familiar with this restaurant, I got to know its story from the owner himself and I am now part of the on-going history. 🤗

Serving you some of the Filipino favorites, it's going to seem like you are just eating in the comforts of your home.

Appetize
- Tokwat's Baboy (This one may seem ordinary but for tofu lovers like me, this is a big deal!)
- Chicken Skin (So hooked on this! Super crunchy and tasty!)
- Gambas (Can't believe this is an appetizer! Rice please! HAHAHA!)

Salad
- Ceasar Salad (There's so much food going on the table and I am not in the mood for salad. I don't wanna pretend like I'm in some sort of diet. HAHA!!)

Main Course
- Crispy Pata (The BEST!)
- Kare Kare (MUST TRY!)
- Beef Salpicao
- Lechon Kawali (So crispy and yummy!)
- Dagupan Boneless Bangus (Dagupan never fails when it comes to Boneless Bangus!)
- Pinalutong na Hito (I didn't try this because I'm not eating hito! If there weren't much food that time, I would probably give it a try. Hehe)
- Garlic Fried Chicken

Vegetables
- Pinakbet (All I can say is, I love veggies!)
- Kilawin Puso ng Saging
- Gising Gising

Noodles
- Lomi
- Pansit Maria (They make their own noodles so might as well give it a try! Check out what makes it different!)

Rice
- Adobo Rice
- Filipino Fried Rice

Sandwiches
- Monte Carlo
- Open face Tuna Melt

Dessert
- Coffee Jello
- Buko Pandan
- Halo Halo Special

I SHOULD MENTION HOW GOOD THEIR MATCHA AND COFFEE FRAPPEs ARE! Because I tried both and I do not regret adding more pounds in me! HAHAHA!! 😍😋

A restaurant that has been around for ages which sits at Makati Medical Center but has capture almost different generations with the quality of food they provide, if you have been going to the hospital for over a decade, the famous huge siopao and mango crepe were the distinction.

At their branch outside the hospital, we had the chance to taste some of their Filipino dishes, do not expect twists of any sort in their dishes but expect that home cooked meals you were wishing for right at your fingertips in their restaurant. oh! and the serving, you would know if it's for sharing, haha

appetizers:
tokwa't baboy - P160
a good starter, probably just less onion but the tofu is just cooked right

fried chicken skin - P150
sinful start, the good thing though is that you wouldn't see or feel the oil drippin while you bite it 👌

gambas - P350
could use a little more flavor and the shrimp is a little over cooked.

caesar salad - P305
the crunch, the bacon, the cheese, is all there

Main course:
Crispy pata - P690
as sinful as it looks, watch out for the signs of your cholesterol shooting up, what's good about this dish is that the crisp of the skin is there from the momentit was served till the time we were about to leave

kare-kare - P470
the "tuwalya" is what i liked about this dish, could use some more flavor for the sauce, best consumed while it's hot

beef salpicao - P425
i think it would be better if the beef is more tender but the dish is tasty.

dagupan boneless bangus - P630
might be pricy but the fish is meaty and tastes fresh

pinalutong na hito - P410
crunch and flavor in every bite

Vegetables:
gising-gising - P150
one of my favorite in this place, the milk is creamy and the dish is flavorful.

pinakbet - P275
needs a little more salt and pepper i guess, haha

Pansit Maria - P260
when i first saw it i thought it was filipino pad thai, the noodles tastes really good.

adobo rice - P380
if you're in a tight budget, order this, it's a meal! you will find huge pork chunks mixed with that distinct adobo taste

The Floating Island Restaurant serves what its owner calls comfort food. Since it started in Makati Medical in 1969, it has focused on providing food and drink to patients and hospital staff that remind them of the comforts of home. Now at its second branch in Ayala Malls the 30th, it strives to maintain the level of service that has carried it through the decades.

With such a long history, the Floating Island has a number of dishes that are staples of its menu. I was lucky to sample some of these, and they are mentioned below:

Appetizer:

- Tokwa't Baboy (P160)

The classic fried pork and tofu with onions. The pork is crunchy and the tofu is chewy, and some soy sauce lends it a pleasant salty taste to contrast with the sourness of the raw onions.

- Fried Chicken Skin (P150)

These golden brown strips of chicken skin are crunchy enough that one could imagine that they were eating chips. I recommend some vinegar to jolt the taste buds.

- Gambas (P350)

These are de-shelled shrimps served in oil, garlic, and green chilis. The garlic taste permeates to the insides of the shrimp, so each bite is bursting with flavor.

Main Course:

- Crispy Pata (P690)

Per the owner, this is actually the restaurant's bestselling item. And I can see why: the pata is crunchy but not overpowering in its seasonings. I found it satisfying to eat even without soy sauce or vinegar.

- Beef Salpicao (P425)

Despite the small size of each piece of beef, they all burst with flavor. Its juices flow when I cut it with my spoon, and I am enveloped in the aroma of garlic, soy sauce, and pepper. A must try.

- Dagupan Boneless Bangus (P630)

This is a behemoth of a dish, good for probably four or five people. Fried to a golden brown crisp, one also doesn't need to rely on condiments to give it some flavor. This is also one of the fastest-selling items on the menu, so it serves as a testament to the bangus' lasting popularity.

- Pinalutong na Hito (P410)

This was my first time ever eating catfish, so I was not disappointed by how flavorful it was. It is also served standing on its belly, with the sides cut open and lying on the plate like wings, showing off the golden brown color inside and out.

Vegetables:

- Pinakbet (P275)

Another classic and another favorite of mine. Despite the lack of squash, the tender asparagus beans (sitaw), tomatoes, and bitter gourd (ampalaya) more than make up for it by absorbing the subtle saltiness of the bagoong.

Rice:

- Adobo Rice (P380)

If one wants to have their rice and meat at the same time, order this. Pieces of chicken and pork are mixed into the rice and fried until it reaches a dark yellow. One can savor the taste of soy sauce and pepper with each bite.

- Filipino Fried Rice (P230)

If one wants to have their rice and fish at the same time, order this. The fried rice is served with shredded bangus, raw tomatoes, and sliced salted eggs to provide an medley of sweetness, saltiness, and sourness with each spoonful.

Sandwiches:

- Open-faced Tuna Melt (P275)

For those who want lighter fare, I recommend this sandwich. Tuna salad is layered on thick slices of bread along with tomato, and the whole thing is topped with a generous helping of melted cheese. It has cheese. That is more than enough reason to love this dish. And it has tuna salad so there is that, too.

Desserts:

- Buko Pandan (P120)

This sweet treat is a great way to end the meal and wind down from the feast of flavors. Served chilled in a margarita glass, the classic dessert is given a fancy twist.

And so, while the Floating Island can bank on its long history and its tasty dishes to carry it forward, I know that it will continue to innovate in order to get ahead of the game for a long time.

The restaurant that has served you for many years in Makati Medical Center, has now opened it's second branch at the heart of Ayala Malls the 30th. The restaurant derives its name from their original location that resembles a "floating island" that is somehow suspended from a hospital building.

Its branch at Ayala Malls the 30th was fairly small but, I guess it's enough to fit a decent amount of people. I love how the place was bright, classy and beautiful, making my dining experience better than it already is. I couldn't stop adoring the bright lights and colorful interiors that literally brought the whole place to life. It surely was a place that couldn't be missed!

Their first branch had been serving people for already 48 years, and it's amazing how they still manage to maintain the original recipes from years back. To be honest, it's not easy to maintain the classic recipes since it's already the next generation but, somehow Floating Island's owner was able to make it work.

The restaurant is known for serving classic Filipino comfort food without any complicated twists, and I appreciate how they want show everyone that Filipino food is delicious even without the twists.

So, if you're looking for a restaurant that offers classic Filipino comfort food that are delicious, fresh, and affordable, then Floating Island is the perfect choice for you!

Here were the dishes that were offered to us during our visit ❤️:

🇵🇭APPETIZER🇵🇭

➿ Tokwa't Baboy ➿ (160 php)
- An appetizer that's familiar to every Filipino. The tofu and pork were fried nicely while the sauce of vinegar and soy sauce helped give life to the dish.

➿ Fried Chicken Skin➿ (150 php)
- Most would agree that the best part of fried chicken is the skin. Although it may be high in cholesterol, it's still something that you must try at least once in your life. Tastes best when dipped in the spicy vinegar!

➿ Gambas ➿ (350 php)
- Spicy and garlicky just how it should be. Shrimps were a bit overdone but overall, it was a lovely appetizer.

🇵🇭 SALAD 🇵🇭

➿ Caesar Salad ➿ (305 php)
- A simple salad with croutons and bacon bits. That's pretty much it, nothing special.

🇵🇭 MAIN COURSE 🇵🇭

➿ Crispy Pata ➿ (690 php)
- Another sinful way to enjoy pork. The gelatinous tender meat, together with the crunchy skin will leave you wanting for more. Good for 2-3 people.

➿ Kare-Kare ➿ (470 php)
- A traditional Filipino stew made of peanuts. The sauce for me, lacked peanut flavor. For the meat, it was soft but the vegetables were over cooked. I can't say that it wasn't the best Kare-Kare I've had but, I enjoyed the bagoong that went along with it. Good for 2-3 people.

➿ Beef Salpicao ➿ (425 php)
- Tender and buttery goodness in a plate! I love the strong garlic flavor, followed by the mild chili flavor from the sauce.

➿ Lechon Kawali ➿(350 php)
- The pork belly was moist while the skin was super crunchy. Best paired with liver sauce!

➿ Dagupan Bangus ➿ (630 php)
- Generous size of Bangus fresh from Dagupan and deep-fried to perfection! Don't forget to try the belly, it's the best part! Good for 3-4 persons.

➿ Pinalutong na Hito ➿ (410 php)
- Fresh hito that's seasoned lightly and then deep fried to perfection. Comes with ensaladang mangga to help cleanse your mouth from the fishiness of the fish.

➿ Garlic Fried Chicken ➿ (405 php)
- Basically just fried chicken with a mild garlic flavor, nothing to be excited about. Good for 1-2 people.

🇵🇭VEGETABLES🇵🇭

➿ Pinakbet ➿ (275 php)
- Floating Island's version has no squash to prevent it from being spoiled easily. Overall, it was a tasty vegetable dish with enjoyable textures. Good for 1-2 people.

➿ Kilawin Puso ng Saging ➿ (230 php)
- I like the simple flavors from this dish. I also like how there were generous amounts of fish (I think) as well. Good for 1-2 people.

➿ Gising Gising ➿ (150 php)
- One of the best Gising Gising that I've ever had. This version uses the stalks of the kangkong vegetable than the usual green beans. It's amazing how I didn't notice it at first. Overall, I love its flavor especially from the creamy coconut sauce. good for 1-2 people.

🇵🇭 Noodles 🇵🇭

➿ Lomi ➿(210 php)
- A Filipino's classic merienda dish that's perfect for this years rainy season. Simple yet flavorful.

➿ Pancit Maria ➿ (260 php)
- Pancit unlike any other. It's lighter in color compared to other pancits and the noodles used were also different. Comes with toasted bread.

🇵🇭Rice🇵🇭

➿Adobo Rice➿ (380 php)
- The rice had the right contrast of flavors. There were also generous amounts of meat. Good for 2-3 people.

➿ Filipino Fried Rice ➿ (230 php)
- This lovely bowl of rice, salted egg, tomatoes and fried fish is a Filipino's rice lovers dream. It's super affordable and delicious. Definitely worth every bite. Good for 2-3 people.

🇵🇭 SANDWICHES 🇵🇭

➿ Monte Cristo ➿ (275 php)
- Tastes just like an ordinary ham and cheese sandwich. Not the best but it's nice to know that this restaurant serves sandwiches as well.

➿ Open Face Tuna Melt ➿ (275 php)
- One of the most luscious looking open faced sandwiches I've seen. The generous amount of tuna filling topped with lots of cheese was heavenly good. Definitely worth the try.

🇵🇭DESSERT🇵🇭

➿ Halo- Halo ➿ (250 php)
- Simple, cold and delicious. Ube ice cream for the win!

➿ Buko Pandan ➿ (120 php)
- Pandan gelatin with shredded buko soaked in the sweet and creamy coconut cream sauce. The pandan flavored stood out and the overall sweetness was just right.

➿ Coffee Jello ➿ (125 php)
- the bittersweet coffee jelly paired well with the sweet vanilla ice cream.

My first visit to floating island restaurant was great. I enjoyed the classic dishes that have been greatly elevated to a certain level. Their homey food will definitely bring you back the memories from your younger days. So, if you plan to dine in with your family, I believe that floating island would be a great choice to get delicious, fresh, and reasonably priced food.

Ayala's 30th doesn't have a lot of new concept restaurants around. The mall is dominated by mainstream food establishments. So if you are expecting new players, a few of them can be spotted here. One of them is Floating Island.

It's only their second branch but they've been around for decades, since 1969 or almost 50 years ago. They are an institution at Makati Medical Center and since they moved in a spot nearby that's seemingly floating, they earned this new name.

They serve mostly Filipino favorites, more on the classic side. I got their Kare Kare Vegetable and I from there I knew they are seasoned. The sauce was thick as it should and its peanut texture was felt. What I loved most was its lack of oily feel and seasoned enough even without bagoong.

Their take on Squid Sisig was simple yet appetizing. The bits were perfectly chewy and its taste light and delicious. The portions too were quite generous.

The Saba Con Hielo was a sweet ending. It's just Php 50 but it gave me smiles like a kid. I used to have these a lot when I was young. I am glad they have it here.
