Asian comfort food at last! Laksa the right balance of spiciness and coconut milk. Mee Goreng was spicy with a hint of sweetness from the ketchup. Roti Prata was excellent when dipped in curry sauce. Salted Fish Fried Rice finds the right balance of umami. The Cereal Prawns is on a different level, it was sweet yet hearty. Definitely a great find in Marikina. The closest thing to a Singaporean hawker centre here in Manila.

Craved for laksa for my birthday that's why we decided to try this place. Katong Laksa is soooooooo good. Everything in balance, flavor fireworks ang effect sa tastebuds. Ganun sya kasarap. We tried din the salted egg prawns, ok din kaso nabother ako sa shrimp shell. Breaded yun prawns with shell on pero hindi ganun ka-crunchy. Ang weird kung babalatan ko yun prawn kase may breading, binawi na lang sa taste kase in fairness masarap sya. Sambal eggplant is also a must try. Yum din. Eto yun place if hanap mo lang is masarap na food, walang arte. Piece of advice lang and I hope the management will work on it. Si cashier kase mejo loud yun voice, the time we arrived nakikipag-argue sa delivery man then after phone convo naman na loud voice. Bothered tuloy ang hubby. Minor details lang yan which I know they can easily improve on. :)

Amazing interiors!!!! Ordered cheese and onion pratha to go. Loved the curry sauce. Only letdown was, cheese and onions should be cooked and not just sandwiched between two prathas.

Will definitely go back to try their other dishes.

I remember how much we enjoyed our food trip at Lilac strip Marikina City.

My personal favorite was this small Singaporean restaurant. We had Laksa, Rendang and Chicken. Good for single portion lang each dish.

The owners were friendly. Food are reasonable naman and tasty too.

Authentic and delicious Singaporean food! Singlish did not disappoint and took our tastebuds to foodie heaven. Here are some of our faves:

Hainanese Chicken

What I loved about Singlish Hainanese Chicken is its authentic flavor. The sauces worked together like magic, giving the dish a sweet and spicy kick.

Salted Egg Chicken

I'm really not a fan of salted egg flavor, but Singlish just changed that. Their Salted Egg Chicken is a MUST TRY, and I can't emphasize that enough!

Cereal Prawns

Sweet, juicy, and crunchy. It was challenging to stop munching on these Cereal Prawns.

Roti Prata

It was my first time to try Roti Prata and at first I thought there was nothing special about it since it looked so simple! Dip it in condensed milk or curry and you'll see (or taste) what I mean.

We didn't get to try their drinks, but I heard they're great, too. We also loved the cool interiors, which is highly instagrammable.

Adventure foodie need not to fly to the fine city to try it's fine food. the authentic dishes with the touch of asian, mideastern & western is right here in Lilac in Marikina City, and has been for some years, a favorite food destination by the locals. Who hasn't the menu is impeccable and fairly rate. And you can't help, but pay a next visit.

The fried pancake or the so-caled ROTI PRATA were served to us with curry sauce and condesed milk. I just missed this carbo source. Back in my mid-east days we used to substitute it to rice. My peers were curious how it taste and they, liked it. Set your cuttleries!, the Prata's best eaten with a bare hand.

KATONG LAKSA (p228) (that yellow and rice noodles w/ merging of egg, shrimp, togue and coconut prawn stock) is a spicy-sweet noodle, so authentic and worth trying. Can be enjoyed by 2-3 bellies.

Braised Pork tenderness and soothing is also unforgettable. It was, accordingly, braised for 3 hours with special spices all the way from China.

For seafood, we've tried the SALTEDEGG PRAWNS in salted egg gravy. Interestingly, its not really salty. and out of the salty taste comes the sweet and spice, asian cuisine is prominent for. You gonna forget not the creamy sauce, too.

CHAR KWAY TEOW is also a signature dish. dark pasta that is semi-sweet semi-salty and spice-less. It is dry and has less oil on it. There's something about its choco color, thus I find it a challenge to eat. Good though, taste wise.

Tired of fried? HAINESE CHICKEN is fresh. and yes, tastes half-cooked, but equally inviting with the thinly sliced cucumber on the side. The 3 types of gravies (I chose the chili spice) would champion the taste. Expect the meat to be light and friendly for chewing tasks.

#Singlish upper level has a more conducive dining area. Presentable with cool murals on the backdrop. One of it says.

Makan Lah! (Let's Eat) and yes, your belly will be pampered like it was never before.

I haven't been to Singapore but it's on my travel bucket list. Going on a holiday to Singapore I heard is quite expensive since it is one of the Asian countries that is first world and has a thriving economy and tourism. But if ever I'll go there, I would likely to spend my hard-earned money on food especially at their hawker centers.

Note: Late Review

This would be the first wave of the reviews I'll be writing for Lilac Street.

Sunday.  After our rendezvous with the kitties at Miao we decided to have early dinner /late lunch / food binge at Lilac. The original plan was to eat at Crazy Katsu.  We suck at planning,  we ended up at Singlish Cafe.  He was craving for Singaporean spicy rice thingy.  Suffice to say,  that Singlish is the good choice.

It is a typical Hole-In-The-Wall joint.  Wooden tables and chairs,  menu is tucked in a wooded clipboard.  And oh,  the menu has photos,  which i like.  Something that is unusual with Hole-In-The-Wall joints.

We sat on the table facing the wall with a big-ass mirror.  Conducive for narcissistic behavior.  The tables are too small for two people who plans to order a lot of food.

Classic Roti with Curry Sauce.   This is my favorite part of the meal.   I haven't eaten roti in ages (not since Long Grain at Powerplant closed).  This was served on top of a wooden chopping board,  flaming hot with the curry sauce on the side.  We annihilated this in a matter of minutes and yes,  it was good.

Laksa.  Rice noodles with prawn,  served in spicy soup.  I don't know how authentic Laksa taste like.  I liked this dish because it's spicy.  The noodles are chewy,  the broth is rich and flavourful.  The only downside is that they only added one prawn.  I ain't complaining,  give me broth and  a cup of rice and I'm a happy camper.

Spicy Sambal Fried Rice.  This was equally good,  although i didn't taste the full flavour because my tastebuds were overwhelmed with the spicy noodle soup.

Prawn in curry sauce.   Lemon grass,  tomatoes, prawn and curry sauce.   The sauce is not as thick as the other curry dishes I've tried.  It's full-bodied and bursting with flavors though.  Maybe i got used to how the Indians do it.  This is best paired with white rice or roti bread.

4 stars for now,  we enjoyed the food.  And i dont have any points of comparison.  Plus, i am a Singaporean cuisine neophyte.

P. S.  Crockey is sophisticated,  Ventilation needs improvement (or I was sweating really bad because of the spices I've eaten).  Service is fast,  the chick manning the counter is mighty efficient with her pen.

Third time to experience Singaporean cuisine, and still loves it! The place is located in the heart of Lilac Street before Puregold. The space is small but the interiors are nice. The staffs are friendly. But i don't think the cook is friendly enough. Doesn't really take feedbacks. Some of the items on the menu are always unavailable. Some lacks the proper ingredients.  What I like was the braised pork belly, roti and chili prawns.

Braised pork belly - tasty
Katong laksa - not so flavorful but its ok
House blend iced tea - yummy! I like house blends
Service was good. Theyre planning to open another branch in pasig city next month. Serving was good for two. 😍

First time at a Singaporean reastaurant. They are not so generous when it comes to serving but the taste is superb. Salted Fried Rice, Must try! kanin pa lang ulam na. Cereal prawn and Chili prawn is my favorite. Mi Goreng is also the best. 😊 Price is affordable.
The place is too small. We almost occupied their second floor, 15 kami with 3 kids. Good thing that we came early (around 6pm). I hope mag expand pa sila. ☺
All in all, my family enjoyed our dinner.

The Seafood Katong Laksa is a must try. Chef Sandy Daza approved this dish saying "I finally found my Laksa in Manila. Although it looked a lot smaller than the picture, the taste more than made up for it. The thick coconut sauce was mildly spicy with a slight taste of lemongrass and kaffir lime. It had prawns, fish cake, bean sprouts and the taste I’ve been looking for. Many have claimed a good Laksa but this version for me is up there. I loved it. I know I enjoyed it so much for a few days after the lunch, I was still thinking about it. When I like something, I have it for days on end. Next Sunday again."

The place is simple & small yet for me it is comfy 😊👍🏼 And we saw that they're one of the Top 13 restaurants in Lilac.

Mee mee mee mee goreng. Probably the only singaporean food that I know off. One of the earliest restaurants that opened on lilac, Singlish is a singaporean-us themed restaurant. I have always passed by this restaurant but today was the first time me and Ani dined here. I ordered the mee goreng something that I am familiar off and Ani ordered the honey soy chicken. The honey soy chicken was 'ok' but I find the price a bit much for a leg quarter chicken and rice. Mee goreng mee goreng mee goreng! Yes, the mee goreng was great. Even Ani(picky eater) loved the noodle dish. Will try their other dishes (salted egg prawn and chicken curry) next time should I find myself in front of the restau. Props on the interior and ambience of the restaurant.

Singlish Cafe is known to serve Singaporean dishes in Lilac St. Not really a fan of Singaporean dishes so I always pass by this place but never got the chance to dine until today.

Went here for a dinner a few days ago. Place is a bit small but may accomodate maybe 20 customers on the 1st floor (not sure though if they have more seats upstairs). It has that Singaporean vibes but still lacking more designs I guess.

Menu was already place on our table.

Since it was my first time here, we asked the staff for the best seller dishes.

Here's what we ordered:

Indian Curry Chicken (Php188)

- Not a fan of curry though I like this very flavorful curry as can really taste the mix of spices that they used. For me, servings were big enough for me so this is good for sharing.

Braised Pork Belly "Dong Po" (Php228)

- I really liked their pork belly a lot as this was very flavorful and soft to chew. Servings are good for sharing also.

Rose Milk Tea (Php85)

- I was really wow by the look of this milk tea at first. The taste was good at first sip but it leaves that weird rose taste after sipping. I didn't really like the after taste so I asked my friend to took a sip. She said it was okay though for me, I like the pink rose milktea's color/presentation but didn't really like the taste :(

Overall, my dining experience with Singlish Cafe was okay. I did liked the Braised Pork Belly a lot, the ambiance and the service. Would love to come back to try their famous Roti Prata soon. :)

Because we saw this place a couple weeks back and I haven't had a Singaporean dish for quite a while, we came here for dinner. The roti prata was good. Its not AS good but good enough. The coffee pork ribs is average I mean its tender and the sauce has a somehow coffee flavor but it not a savory as I thought it would be. I ordered the char kwey teow. Maybe I was just expecting too much.

I had a great first experience at Singlish Cafe. Singaporean cuisine can be tricky as it is fusion cuisine from the get-go, but Singlish avoided con-fusion by keeping the menu/food simple yet exceeding expectations in flavor (and even portion size). Its a relatively easy place to get to and stuff your face, without going broke.

We came in mid afternoon for light snack just to see how good their food are. We always drive by and the place seem to always draw a good crowd.

We ordered Roti Prata with Cheese and Mushroom with Curry Sauce and we liked it. The dipping sauce complemented the food very well and the spiciness was not overpowering.

We were able to talk with Rich, the owner who recommended we try some of their specials like the Salted Egg Prawns and Mee Goreng the next time we visit.

The place was a bit small but they have an ongoing expansion upstairs to accommodate their growing clientele. The decor is simple and has a rural feel. The prices are average and the staff accommodating and courteous.

Yesterday, January 31,2016 my friends and I were on our way back to manila from the province of Rizal from our little adventure. Then we decided to finally eat at Lilac since we will be passing by marikina via commute(with our tall packs from trek). Then singlish caught my attention because I was craving for singaporean cuisine which is mee goreng! I forgot to take a picture of it, but this hainanese was even better. Carbo-loading Day 3 (January 8, 2016)

Finally tried Singlish cafe!! We live here in marikina but we always forget to try here :))

We ordered:
*Fish n chips (148php)
*Bacon mushroom melt burger (198php)
*Juicy Lucy burger (228php)
*Ginger with lemon--strong ginger taste and I like it too
*Milo iced--nothing special

I liked the bacon mushroom melt burger more than the Juicy Lucy! It has a creamy sauce and really tasty!! (Both burgers are good actually. I think the buns are made specially for this resto only). They used real potatoes as fries.

The waiter was attentive.. Or pretends to be attentive? :p coz he almost forgot our Bacon mushroom melt burger.. We waited for more than 30mins. Buti na lang we followed up our order..

After a bout of holiday sightseeing, the family headed to Lilac Street for some chow. I was a bit apprehensive about dining in another Singaporean cuisine resto but I was happily surprised with Singlish Cafe.

We ordered the following:
- Sambal Spicy Burger (which earned hubby's seal of approval)
- Single Hainanese Chicken and Rice (meat was "falling-off-the-bone" tender and the rice was very flavorful)
- Salisbury Steak with Rice and Egg (the patty was a bit on the sweet side but my baby girl loved it)

The servings were large and satisfying, and we only spent a little over Php500 for a meal for three.

Finally found a decent Singaporean resto in the Metro. Lilac St isn't that hard to find if you're coming from C5 or Pasig. (Waze it!)

Had some Roti for starter. I love the authenticity of the curry sauce. Well-balanced spice and saltiness. I highly recommend this for your appetizer if you love curry.

As recommended by my companion, I tried the cereal prawns for the first time. The oat/cereal breading was so flavorful. Sweet is all I can remember for this dish. This is a must try for first timers.

Laksa was ok but something that I won't order on my next visit.

I also had Teh Terik for something to drink. I was a bit disappointed on this one. There was too much condensed milk that I was like drinking diluted condensada.

Travel was worth it and will come back for more to try other items on their menu.

Singlish is the first to offer Singaporean dishes in the booming Lilac Foodie Strip. Though I first fell in love with Rotis in India/Nepal border, and Im definitely a novice when it comes to Singaporean cuisine, I was happy to see that they serve Roti Prata here.

Rotis are made by flattening an oiled ball of dough, and flipping it with practised flair until the dough is a tissue-thin sheet. This is then folded into multi-layered pancakes and griddle-fried til crisp. In Singlish, you get Plain Roti for 98php which comes with a side curry sauce. Their version however is a bit more oily than usual. The curry doesnt give that wow factor but it was decent.

We also had soy garlic chicken. This one lacked flavor for me. I ordered Bah Ku Teh but it was not available at the time. :( Settled for Mi Goreng and surprised that I actually enjoyed it! Though I remember having it before with more chili/spices, I know Im coming back to Singlish for this!

Service was okay. Only downside is how the place can only sit about 20 people inside and parking is limited.

My boyfriend and I ate here and our original plan was to order the laksa and the mee goreng but unfortunately, their stir-fried noodles were not available. So my boyfriend ordered the laksa and I had to go with the beef rendang w/ rice. We instantly both fell in love with the beef rendang because it was so flavorful and the spiciness was just right. The laksa is alright but we've had better and it was a bit too spicy for me. We also ordered the plain roti prata and it was good. When we dined here, there was only one server together with the owner but I have to commend the server because she was alone but she still gave us quality service. We kept asking about the menu because we were not familiar with some of the dishes and she answered very attentively without showing signs of annoyance. And even though she was alone, she always attended quickly to all the customers' needs. I think the order took a bit long, maybe 20 minutes? Haha but that's just me, my boyfriend didn't seem to mind at all. Would we come back here? Definitely, yes! Would like to try their burgers and stir fried noodles next time.

Some of their dishes are legit Singaporean hawker food!

Roti prata was good but the curry sauce is a bit too thin. The hainanese chicken was a 3.5 but the chicken rice was not as moist as it should be, a 2.0 for me. Cereal prawns tasted right except that the cereals were not as crispy as in hawker centers in SG.

All in all, the dining experience was great and the price for their food is just right.

Good thing they have char kway teow which is priced at 168 and is good for 1, enough for 2. Food - the Indian Chicken curry was a 2.0. The chicken was lacking in flavor and the sauce was confusing. You couldn't tell if it was spicy menudo or curry. Plus it was overly oily. What saved this restaurant was the Char Kway Teow which comprised of flat noodles, vegetables, chorizo and sprouted beans, and the Roti Prata with Egg and Cheese which was a 2 piece bread with egg and cheese that you get to dip in curry sauce. Both were too good I wished I had ordered 2 of each. Their servings are huge enough for 2 people. The meals are reasonably priced. Would want to try the Hainanese Chicken on my next visit.

Service - the server was unpleasant. She was too lazy to take our orders. When asked what the bestsellers were, of course she recommended the seafood ones but I asked what the bestsellers were that weren't seafood, she told me Mee Goreng - which had shrimp. I have not seen her smile once during our lunch there. A simple act like that can make customers skip this restaurant and not go back again.

Ambience - the place was small, well lit, simple and modern. The airconditioning was good so that's a plus too. They played music that was very relaxing. It's a very good place to hangout.

Living in the Lion City for quite some time had our palates accustomed to the local flavors.

We've been craving for cereal prawns and it was first in our order list. It was not an exact match of what we usually get at the hawker at Bishan MRT Station but what I liked about Singlish's version is that theirs is not too oily.

The sambal rice was filling. Their char kway teow tasted authentic though the spiciness is toned down a bit.

For us, the biggest winner is their sambal (sauce) which we used as dip for the prawns. We got to talk to the owners and we found out that they make their own sambal and roti.

Just like back in SG, when there's no cooked meal at the flat, we go to the hawkers downstairs. The short drive to Lilac St. was really worth it. We look forward to our next visit to try their other menu offerings.

Somehow, my boyfriend and I found ourselves wanting to try a few places in Marikina. We got to Lilac Street and decided on this cafe for lunch. We had only been around this area once before and just wanted to try something new. (This area is swarming with small but up-and-coming restos.) A friend of ours mentioned they had really delicious food and so we did not hesitate to eat here. By the time we got to the place, a few people were already seated and it was very obvious how small the place was. It could really make you feel crowded if you're not comfortable in small spaces. Although, I have to say the restaurant was beautifully set up. Nothing was too fancy and the simplicity of the restaurant actually gave it a certain feeling of class. I am using this description in relation to the fact that their dishes are actually very affordable. Almost everything was cheap! So even though the place may not be that great, as a scrooge foodie, the prices kept me interested. Now, moving on to the actual food, I can honestly say that it was delicious too. My boyfriend ordered their Hainanese Chicken while I had the Honey Garlic Soy Chicken. Both were served with plain rice. The Hainanese chicken came with three sauces: soy, chili and ginger. Personally, I liked the one with the ginger because its strong flavor complimented the original taste of the chicken. The meat was very tender but still had a good bite to it. The Honey Garlic Soy chicken, on the other hand, was crispy on the outside and very, very juicy on the inside. I was also suprised to learn that this dish actually came with two pieces of chicken when it was served. That's a plus from me for their serving portions. Yay! When you cut into the chicken, you'll see the juices overflowing, almost like it was marinated and the sauce was coming out. That's how it felt to me. And it was a perfect combination of sweet and salty. Aside from the chicken dishes, we also ordered their Fish and Chips, which was also very tasty. The fish, first of all, was really very tender and the batter wasn't overpowering its flavor. The chips, or potato strips, had some kind of spice added to it, (not sure what it was) but it was delicious and flavorful. Everything we tasted was pleasing and satisfying. Waiting time was probably around 15 minutes but our food was served hot so I can forgive the wait. And again, portions were great. Staff was okay. A woman (don't know if she was the owner but looked like it) came up to us and asked how the food was which I thought was very friendly. Overall, it's a very nice place to eat at. Definitely worth the trip. :)

In celebration of my ate Johanna’s (who’s currently in Singapore) birthday last January, Jason and I decided to check out Singlish Cafe in Lilac Street.

Malayo man, malapit rin. :)

Lilac Street is near to us maybe a 10-15 minute drive from Marikina. When we entered Singlish Cafe we found that it only had a seating capacity of 18 pax or even less.

Their Barley with Lemon drink (Php 75) was nothing special.

What I loved in their menu was their Roti Prata with curry sauce (Php 98). I’m not a fan of curry but their curry was very much appetizing.

It doesn’t look that way though. :p I liked their roti since the bread was very soft and it didn’t taste like dough. It had a life of its own apart from the curry sauce. The next time I visit I know that I’ll have this again.

Jason got Bak Kut Teh which is an Herbal Pork Spare Rib Soup (Php 188) served already with steamed rice. The order was good for 1. I liked the flavor of their soup but having gotten to try it was enough.

I felt adventurous that time and I wanted to tickle my tastebuds with spice so I got their Sambal Spicy Burger (Php 188). All i can say is WHY? Why did I order this again? It sounded interesting at first, for what’s a Singaporean dish without sambal?

It was incredibly spicy at first bite! It looked like a regular burger but the spice made all the difference. My mouth was on fire. I couldn’t enjoy the rest of the burger so I tried scraping off the chili but my poor tongue already suffered the consequence. I was really convinced I loved spicy food until I got to try this one. Jason was snickering the whole time but of course I didn’t want him to miss out so I shared with him a bite of fire. :p

Overall the experience here was okay, it was worth our effort as we’re just a few minutes away. And if we’d like to taste Singapore by not (literally) going the extra mile then we’d settle for this modest cafe nearby.

Happy Belated Birthday to my fun-loving, adventure-seeker sister, I hope we can spend your other birthdays here again! :)

I fell in love with their hainanese chicken. So flavorful and tender.A must try. On the other side we're suppose to get burgers, unfortunately patties we're not available. The place has a feel good vibe, the seat was just uncomfy though. But all in all, I'll be going back for their burgers.

Spicy Asian food is one of my non negotiables, that is why I tried Singlish! Plus it's my first time to stroll around Lilac St. in Marikina. Here is my FAST review for Singlish.

F (Food)
- The idea of combining Singaporean/Asian cuisine with the Western ones is a hit! Ordered Honey Garlic Chicken and it compliments the Salty rice that we had.
- My standards for Laksa is quite high (I've been daydreaming of my Singapore days when even just the street foods touch not only the pallate but also my soul!) sadly, Singlish was not able to tap into that.
- Food is already good for sharing.
- Fairly priced.

A (Ambiance)
- Neatly decorated and clean

S (Service)
- Friendly staff, however they were not able to anticipate my needs. My Dad and I dined in and when they served the food, they only had one plate and did not bother asking for additional plates.
- Senior Citizen discount was applied however, breakdown and computation was not presented. I am not sure if there was a service charge inculcated in the bill.

T (Tips)
- Place is quite small so if you go there during peak hours, you wont enjoy the place. When we ate, we had students and young pros dining in and they were really noisy.
- NO WIFI
- Free Parking

I love the place, the service is fast. 2 to 3people can share one order with their serving size. I like their braised pork belly, Hokkien Mee, Mee Goreng and my favorite Char Kwey Teow. When you dine here do not forget to order the Salted Fish Fried Rice, it's to die for! Their price is very affordable and the food is so good. Thank you for bringing the taste of Singapore to us.

One of the best Laksa you can find in Manila. I love the not so thick coconut milk soup as well as the authentic taste.

The food was good, the service was fast, it was a good value for money. The place is also cozy, perfect for people like me who prefer uncrowded, quiet food places like this. Tried their Char Kway Teow and the Hainanese Chicken, two thumbs up for me. Overall, it was a good dining experience for me.

Try the Hainanese Chicken Rice. One of the better ones here in Manila. At par with the expensive Wee Nam Kee.
