Sisig and Kare-Kare are way too good. This restaurant is a small blessing to me when I visited Marikina. Should be visited by people from inside and outside of Marikina

One of the best Filipino cuisine resto you’ll find in Marikina, if not in the Metro. We ordered Kare-kare, Sisig, Krispy Pata, Pinakbet and Buffalo Wings. Food was made with quality without making us wait for a long time! Staff were accommodating and friendly. My personal fave is their Sisig. And oh, their Pumpkin soup is the bomb!

Great Filipino food restaurant!! Affordable and tastes very good 👍🏽👍🏽 This is our favorite place to eat Sinigang and Bagnet 🐷 Fast service and they also offer birthday promos and parties. Watch out for their operating hours as they close mid-day on weekdays.

Alamang pasta and rice variants definitely deserve a try!

Prices are justified by food quality at least and are great otherwise.

The place is pretty cozy in the first floor and gets a bit noisy but other than that, I don’t think there are any more problems.

The Filipino home cooking at it's finest. This was my second time, I forgot to review my 1st stay. The food was worth it's price. Every single viand was delicious! I was hoping they have enough space for more customers though.

Their version of bagnet is different from the authentic ones in Ilocos. Most of their dishes were inspired by their bagnet.

The bagoong rice with bagnet was superb! Enjoyed it again last night.

our family’s favorite restaurant for (go-to) pinoy food. We always bring Non-marikeños here so they could enjoy their kare- kare, spring roll, sizzling, and many more, and they would surely comeback.

Btw, you could ask them to remove salt and msg ❤️❤️

Antonio J. has very attentive staff and takes PWD customers into consideration. Their servings are hefty for its price without compromising on the taste. Their bagnet with binagoongan rice is visually appetizing and lived up to its expected taste.Their pinakbet is well balanced ,not too salty with crunchy vegetables. The sinigang na salmon sa miso is a winner among the elderly(my parents) whose tastebuds are blunted with age...I would recommend their tasty sisig and lengua too.The gifts for improvement for this tasty Filipino restaurant is for more dining and parking space to be added .

I love this resto so much the only thing I don't like is their Turon.

This place is simply amazing :
The seating is comfortable
The servings are big enough
The variety of Filipino food that they have is just , Wow!
The taste of their food is splendid (except the turon)

My parents favorite is the Kare-Kare while I am in love with their bagnet. All their fried food is delecious not too oily , not too dry. Their vegetables are also well cooked. Again , don't order Turon

Their restroom isn't bad either. It may be small but it's clean

Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's youngest brother's 21st birthday but didn't get to spend a long time with them because my man's not feeling well so after we both finished our plate, we sped off back to his home. Leaving his mother, sister and the birthday celebrant, his brother, at the restaurant. But while we were there, I noticed one of their crew wasn't very pleasant to look at. Not because she's (yes, a lady) ugly, but because she looks grumpy. Its like she's already tired at working, frowning even though it's only 8:30pm, way far from their closing time. His sister, who's sitting beside me was the first one to notice her. But their food, everything we ordered really tasted good. And it didn't took them a long time to serve those. We ordered Kare-Kare, Liempo(not in the picture), Sweet and sour fish fillet, Sinigang, Sisig and rice. The place was a bit small but it's not too crowded (we we're seated at the first floor). Didn't get to see the upper part of the resto but I think there are a lot of guests there 'cause the waiters were busy serving upstairs. All in all, everything was fine for the whole duration of my stay here at this resto.

Bagnet with Bagoong Rice is my personal fave! It was the right mix of spices for the rice with ensaladang manga and the winner bagnet. The serving size was perfect for sharing between 2 pax. We also had the Cheesy Beef Caldereta which for me had a unique taste. It was more on the sweet side and had green peas whoch was not my kind of Caldereta.

They have high chair available for toddlers but does not have a safety belt. Parking is available but can be a challenge during peak hours since it is located in an area with lots of different establishments.

Antonio J. Lim is a proud resident of Marikina . He was trained by his father in kitchen . The first restaurant was established in 1944 in Santa Elena in Marikina. Antonio J was the eldest son and he was born on February 11, 1941. A very strict and down to earth , simple yet he possessed high standard in his work.

This is a family-style restaurant where Filipino specialties like bagnet with bagoong rice , pasta and pinakbet are among the top favorite. The restaurant also serves Rice All You Can promo .

The family decided to put a restaurant in his honor and he used to lived on the second floor at the old restaurant.

Antonio J. Restaurant was built by his daughter who is also trained in the kitchen with the help of her son , who is a graduate from one of the best culinary schools in the country.

Among the top -sellers are bagnet with bagoong rice and sliced mangoes , pinakbet , kare-kare, baby back ribs , grilled tuna with special atsara .

Bagnet Sweetened Kare-kare uses peanut sauce which were grounded and roasted ( family recipe ) . The topping includes fried pork ( bagnet style ) , vegetables (eggplant, puso ng saging, string beans, pechay), both smothered with a meat-and-peanut based sauce. The bagnet was seasoned and fried perfectly. The vegetables were fresh and retained their natural tastes. The sauce was sweeter than that of the usual kare-kare. This is best accompanied with bagoong sauce.

The restaurant had a sitting capacity of between 80 to 120 depending on the events and occassions . The restaurant is also open for in-house catering for special occasions and corporate events.

One must try their special chilli sauce and garlic oil.

Antonio J!

2nd Visit - 18 Feb 2018

This place, it gets better and better! This time around, we tried Bagnet and Bagoong Rice platter. The serving is enormous and it tastes so good. The two of us could not finish it. And just check the price for yourself. So much value for money!

I love this place and will be sure to visit it every time I’m in Marikina.

Only bummer is that we wanted the “loyalty card” but only big groups can apply, not people on date like us.

But still, 5 Stars!

1st Visit - 2017

Well, how do I start? I knew Marikina had some good food and good restaurants, but I didn't know that it had food this awesome!

I went here with my girlfriend to see what this restaurant was all about. I had read reviews on some of their dishes and the Bagnet Sweet Kare-Kate was one of those always mentioned, so we decided to try it out.

Thing is... I love Bagnet and my girlfriend loves Kare-Kare... so you can imagine that this dish was absolutely the perfect dish for us! I liked how the Bagnet tasted so fresh and crisp, but also tender and juicy. My girlfriend loved the kare-kare. The combination was a unique and awesome twist of authentic Filipino cuisine. Whoever came up with this specific recipe is a genius!

The staff were attentive and friendly, the place looked very neat and clean and you knew stepping in that it was blessed with much history.

I actually can't recall ever giving any establishment a 5 in my reviews, but for the overall experience, Congrats Antonio J for receiving my first 5 rating!

Now, I'll be waiting for a branch in Makati! Haha.

I love coming back to this resto each chance I get. I like their pinakbet, consistently they are able to keep the veggies cooked just right, preserving their crispiness. All other dishes were prepared lutong bahay, not the daily kind but more like sunday's special.

Antonio J is a small restaurant with charming interiors at Marikina Heights, Marikina. It is run by the owners of the oldest panciteria in the city and is named after their patriarch Antonio Lim who founded the panciteria. While most of the menu is made up of staple Filipino fare, the food is anything but ordinary.

For lunch, my family and I had sinigang na bagnet, inihaw na liempo, inihaw na tuna belly and green mango salad. The sinigang was to die for. The slices of pork bagnet were large and melted in the mouth. The meat was complemented by a rich sinigang broth which my mom said tasted like it used green mangoes as souring agent. The liempo was a bit on the sweet side but this was offset by the perfectly salty soy marinade. The grilled tuna belly was complemented by a spicy garlic sauce and crunchy achara which my dad raved about the whole time we were there.

While I fancied the meals, I was mildly impressed with the green mango shake I ordered. It was a bit underwhelming to say the least.

Neverthless, Antonio J is definitely worth coming back to.

Their food is great but they need more space. Two of my favorites were their Sinigang na Bagnet and Bangus Sisig! We ordered the family set A for 4 pax but it was actually good for 3-4 pax more! Price is good for its big servings! If you're craving for Filipino soul food, check this place out! Just come in early since the place is so small. I hope they move to a bigger lot though.

Last September 23, 2016, I had the privilege of joining a food crawl in Marikina hosted by Zomato Philippines and ABSCBN. First stop? Antonio J!

This restaurant was built by Antonio Lim's daughter, who like his father, was trained in the kitchen with the help of her son who is a graduate from one of the best culinary schools in Manila. For me, family recipes are the best! It's always served with love which I believe makes every dish sumptuous. Same is true with my experience at Antonio J. The place was a bit cramped but one must not simply judge them quickly by the size of the restaurant. Yes, the place may not be as huge as most restaurants we see in the malls but they are sure to serve dishes that are BIG in flavors, one can easily set it as their favorite! It was so hard to keep myself from eating but I had to mind my portions as again, we were only on our first stop of our food crawl.

We were served with their Classic Kare Kare, Bagoong Fried Rice with Bagnet, Pinakbet con Lechon and Grilled Tuna Belly! Ahhhh, I loved everything. I cant even point out which one is my favorite.

Do yourself a favor and visit this humble restaurant in Marikina! Im certain that you'll love them too!!

This is the first stop of today's food crawl organized by #ZomatoxABSCBN and surprisingly called #HungerGames because there was not a moment during this crawl when we felt starved because there was so much food to be had.

Antonio J is one of many restaurants located in what used to be called S-Mall in Marikina City. Nearby are St. Scholastica's Academy Marikina and several Pokéstops.

▪ Kare-Kare - Antonio J's version of kare-kare was prepared with peanut butter made from scratch, which makes the sauce thick and flavorful. The flavor profile is slightly on the sweet side, which I don't mind at all. The sharpness and saltiness of the bagoong cuts through the richness of the kare-kare sauce. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. You cannot resist having steamed rice (lots of it!) when you order this dish.

▪ Bagoong Fried Rice with Bagnet - The flavors are well-balanced in this dish, and that is no easy feat when it comes to bagoong fried rice. My only comment is that the mango strips were limp and soggy, but I am not sure if that was deliberate. I think a better mix of textures can be achieved in this dish if the mango strips were crisp.

▪ Pinakbet with Bagnet - I also enjoyed the pinakbet with bagnet, though the flavor leans on the sweet side.

▪ Grilled Tuna Belly - My favorite dish that day was the grilled tuna belly. The fish was perfectly cooked--which is not easy to achieve when done on the grill--and served with one of the best dips I have had in a while. I will definitely go back to Antonio J's for this dish soon.

I've always been curious about the booming culinary scene in Marikina, quickly emerging as one of the metro's top dining destinations. Thanks to the ZomatoXABSCBN Marikina Food Crawl,  I got a taste of the city's wide and diverse culinary options and best homegrown dining concepts. And it just seemed right to start at Antonio J, with its comforting, rustic and home-style cuisine. Named after the family patriarch and proud Marikina native, Antonio J serves all-time favorites adding their own unique spin, or what they describe as Filipino soul food.  At Antonio J, all the signature mains are served in generous sharing portions, adding to the dining experience. The Pinakbet con Lechon (P 225) takes the classic northern vegetable dish simmered in shrimp paste to a whole new level with the addition of crispy pork belly that will make you go extra rice. Pair it with Antonio J's Classic Kare-Kare (P 295), and you've got a winning feast of comforting local flavors.  Antonio J also offers grilled seafood dishes, like the Inihaw na Tuna Belly with Atchara and Spicy Garlic Sauce (P 385) for a light and healthier alternative (try the grilled tuna belly with their housemade spicy garlic sauce, totally awesome). But if it's a  feast you're craving, the new Bagoong Rice with Bagnet should do the trick, with a mound of flavorful rice cooked in shrimp paste paired with sinful bagnet, just can't get better than that. Looking for comforting local flavors in Marikina? Head on over to Antonio J's...

In this post: Bagoong Rice with Bagnet, Classic Kare-kare, Pinakbet con Bagnet, Inihaw na Tuna Belly with Atchara and Spicy Garlic Sauce

Marikina is an unventured place for me and so when Zomato organized a food crawl called Hunger Games co-sponsored with ABS-CBN and Choose Philippines, it gave me an opportunity to explore the restaurants in Marikina.Antonio J became the first restaurant I've tried in Marikina. It was a good start and left a wonderful impression on what "soul food" is. Too bad it's too far from my place so it isn't easy to revisit this restaurant.

This was the first stop of our Marikina food crawl with Zomato and ABSCBN. The food was good, but since we had 5 other restaurants to visit, I restrained myself from eating too much! It was tough sine everything they served was so delicious, particularly the bagoong rice with bagnet, which also went well with their kare-kare.

Speaking of kare-kare, it's unusual for the accompanying bagoong to be even yummier! Antonio J should sell their bagoong, seriously! Just typing this makes my mouth water haha! Their pinakbet, again with bagnet, was equally good especially since the vegetables weren't soggy.

I also loved the grilled tuna belly so much, particularly when dipped in its spicy garlic sauce ahhhhh saraaaap! Rice pa more hahaha :D

During our Zomato ✘ AbsCbn food crawl, as our first stop, we went at Antonio J in Marikina.

I've been passing by this place since last year and was even planning to visit here but never got the chance to. So I was really excited to finally try their dishes here.

Antonio J is a Filipino international sou food restaurant that opened a year ago (2015) in Marikina. It's really a good place to dine in with family and friends.

Place is very homey, classy and spacious (they have more tables and chairs on the 2nd floor).

Here's what they served to us during our visit:

Antonio J Classic Kare Kare (Php295)

- Was already hungry at that time and this was the first dish served on our table. I was looking for the bagoong first but can't find, so I decided to try this without one. And wow! Their Classic Kare Kare tastes sooo good!! And when I finally tasted it with their bagoong, it was way better! I like that I can really taste the peanut butter in the sauce and the meat was so soft. Servings were even huge. This is definitely one of my fave Kare Kare :)

*Forgot the name of the dish :(

- Not a fan of this kind of dish but I have changed my mind. The taste of this dish was so flavorful and I love how the atchara and soy sauce (with the sili) combines well with this dish.

Pinakbet con Bagnet (Php225)

- I love the salty taste of this one. The veggies were fresh and the sauce was very tasty.

*Forgot the name of the dish :(

- Ooohhh I love the rice!!! The rice was cooked perfectly and the flavor was so good. Though I forgot the name of the dish, this is definitely A MUST TRY rice when you dine in here.

Overall, I had a nice time trying out dishes from Antonio J. All of their foods were so good though my faves are their Kare Kare and the rice dish which I forgot the name :( I also checked their prices and I it's so affordable. Since I live near the area (Marikina), I would love to come back again here. Totally recommended for family and friends :))

Thanks again Zomato and Antonio J for this experience :)

Antonio Js is a family restaurant found in the heart of Marikina. Ms. Molly and her family loved food so much they decided to share their family recipes (along with new ones by her chef son) through Antonio Js.

The food at Antonio Js can be described as "soul food" - familiar and delicious Filipino comfort food  that anyone would love.

During my visit last Friday, i was able to try both their house specialties and new offerings. Bagoong rice, one of the restaurants new dishes, was my favourite. Heaps of bagoong rice and bagnet were served on a banana leaf, and is enough to be shared by 2-3 people.

The freshness of their inihaw na tuna belly really stood out. Antonio Js sure does know where to get the best ingredients. The fish was smokey, juicy, and tender; the spicy garlic toyo was all it needed to bring out the umami flavour as well.

The pinakbet with bagnet and HOMEMADE alamang (yes, they make their own!) was also a crowd favourite. The bagnet was the perfect melt-in-your mouth match to the fresh vegetables cooked in the sweet-salty bagoong.

The classic kare-kare was  with the chef's own peanut butter sauce was a true Filipino classic. The thick peanut sauce was the perfect flavour vessel for the vegetables, meat, and tripe. I couldn't get enough of this dish! One could not help but order an extra cup of rice.

If you ever find yourself craving for Pinoy Soul Food, dont miss out on Antonio Js. They not only have good food, but offer great service!

One of the most underrated restaurants in Marikina...

Every Sunday, we would order food for lunch and today, we decided to order from Antonio J. We ordered pork sisig with egg and sinigang na bagnet. The pork sisig was sooo good! And the sourness of the sinigang na bagnet was just right for our tastebuds - generous pa ang serving! I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Excellent food and service. We ordered nachos, fried calamari, sisig, kare-kare and tuyo pasta. Everything tasted great - especially loved the nachos and kare-kare. We finally had lunch at Antonio J, a newly opened Filipino restaurant situated at the C&B Mall extension at Liwasang Kalayaan, Marikina.

Just to see how it's food measures up with the popular Filipino-themed restaurant in Lilac, we similarly ordered the 'Pinakbet con bagnet' dish for comparison. There were noticable differences in taste. Nicandro's 'Pinakbet sa Bagnet' has a more authentic tasting Vigan bagnet and was more appetizing. Vegetables were fresher and well-cooked. At Antonio J, the bagnet did not have that crispy crunch. The veggies were a bit overcooked. Such a disappointment for us.

However, when it comes to the aesthetics of the place, Antonio J is way much cleaner and classier. Their background music was not competing with the guests' conversation. The lit candles in each table even added a romantic feel, complementing the relaxing mood.

Antonio J's staff, Venus and Gladys, were attentive and helpful.

So, will we come back? The quick answer is yes. Obviously, one dish can not define the true worth of a restaurant. We sense there's potential to do better.

Had their Bagnet Sweetened Kare Kare and Beef Salpicao. Not to exagerrate, both dishes tasted exceptionally good. The kare kare sauce is premium and doesn't taste like watered down peanut sauce. Bagnet serving was sufficient and crunchy. The vegetables were not overcooked.
The meat on the beef salpicao just had the right tenderness, not too salty and the garlic rice complimented it well.
The price can be lowered down a bit though . The Kare Kare took a while to be served it may be attributed to the special preparation. Will eat there again.
