It's my third time to eat at Kuya J, the first one when it just opened at SM Megamall. The expérience was overall execellent. The second time wasn't that good, at Palawan, this was when a lot of negative feedback were given about the quality of food and service from diffent outlets. The latest one at SM Marikina was satisfactory. We enjoyed the crispy pata which lived up to its name. Crispy. And hot. No need to dip in sauce. Pancit bihon, which do not look that appealing is a surprise. It tastes good. The tortang talong was better than Goldilocks or Tapsi ni Vivian, but homecooked is better. Not a fan of their lumpiang shanghai. The place was clean and the staff were accomodating. Worth another visit.
Went here my family and they were happy with the food. It was kind of expensive though for this type of food.
I recommend their crispy pata and their halo halo(the plain variant) but we liked everything that we ordered.
The staff were friendly and the service at the time of our visit is good.
I will probably return here.... On my next 13th month pay.
When we go to SM Marikina as a family, we used to dine every time in Max's because their food "was" great, it has this unique "homey" ambiance and their spicy sizzling chicken was to die for. Time passed and it kinda died off and we found ourselves struggling where to eat every family day, then there's Kuya J's.
I was a little skeptic at first because I don't like hopping on the hypetrain - although I must say, it's making a noise on social media. We entered and we felt at home, it very homey and very FIlipino, from the interior design to the color motif - it's vibrant, lovely and comfortable, it's not spacious but we feel comfortable and that's important.
Next good thing is the food - it's good, not great but it's good. Everything is just delicious and satisfying. You know that you are enjoying the food if you are not having a hard time eating off the plate clean right? There was nothing special about the dishes, they are just, for some, traditional Filipino dish but what stands-out is the flavors, the presentation and the satisfaction right after eating. Their Kare-kare is just unique and wonderful and I recommend you guys to try it. The price point is on the spot as you'll really get what you've paid for, plus, the servings size is good for sharing.
What I don't like is the service, staff are not paying attention, some are just chit chatting outside the kitchen to the point that we can hear them goofing around, you know, you're typical Filipino "chismosa's", I guess that what's make the whole restaurant ambiance Filipino (no pun intended).
Let's rate them shall we?
Food: 4.5/5
Ambiance: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Value for money: 4/5
The food we sampled passed my family's standards: the pancit was delicious especially the noodle: perfectly aldente; crispy pata was tasty; pork sisig and pakbet equally yummy. Minor issue was the rice; it was hard and seemed not top grade. But otherwise our visit was worth it. I just can not connect the book racks. The place was not conducive to reading; what with all the noise of the customers. Probably, the books were there because it takes 20 to 25 minutes for the order to arrive.
Been here a few times, its one of the restaurant that serves best filipino dish. The place is clean and classy. One of my favorite in this place is the chorizo dynamitas, it has the right amount of sweetness and spiciness and the grilled scallops is great too, though its a bit expensive but it worth the price. All in all i think this place "ALMOST" meet my expectation.
ALMOST since everytime i visit this place there's always a dish that is not available.
By the way dont leave the place without trying the ube halo-halo, can't get enough of it😬😬🍽🍽🍴
Super love the Filipino food. Their chicken specially the roasted is so good. They put a twist on their halo-halo and it's super delicious. It's really big for one serving tho, but you can't visit the place without ordering their halo-halo👌🏼
The food is so delicious if I were you these menu items are nice
Halo-Halo
Lumpiang Pritong with Sweet 'n' sour sauce
Turon
Bulalo
Crispy Pata
Calamares
Kuya J's Sinigang and Crispy Pata! THE BEST!!! Worth the price. Sulit na sulit ang unli rice namin ;) Madami din ang serving!Accomodating din ang mga staffs! 😬
Our favorite Filipino resto in SM Marikina, this place is always packed. Their bagnet kare kare is really good, but the sauce is quite lacking in quantity especially because the bagnet is big and can serve about 3 people. I also like their munggo, although it has gata on it.
My only other issue here is that the serving time can take up to 30 minutes or more. I wouldn't suggest this place if you are very HANGRY. Other than that, it's all good.
Currently holds as my best filipino food. Highly recommend.
Releno talong and bagnet must try 👍👍👍👍
Will come back for the sizzling bulalo.

We first tried this resto in Cebu and like the food very much. It's a good thing they now expanded to metro Manila. Love their food very tasty and filling
I love their food specially the kare-kare. Kaso lagi silang nauubusan ng kare-kare kahit maaga palang. Pero this place is perfect for family time. Siguradong mabubusog ka after you eat. Price is worth it! 👍🏻
One of the best filipino restaurant i've been to. It affordable and the place is nice ang clean. The food was great and also the servers were accomodating. I recommed their must try and best seller dish.

Last week was my first time to here and I want to eat again (but not so soon because of health reasons). It's just the 3 of us but we ordered Humba Binagoongan Rice Platter -for our rice yet this was full of meat chunks that it can serve as a meal, Kuya J's Beef Kare-Kare and Sisig - really good versions of the dishes. You must really try at least one of the dishes I mentioned. It was a very satisfying lunch for us.

It's my first time to try Kuya J. I'm not disappointed with their food. The foods are great! We ordered their best seller Crispy Pata(I dont have a picture), it's so Good! we also tried their Kaldereta, Adobong Pusit, Grilled Pusit and Lumpiang Presko! The quantity is a little bit few for the price but it tastes good! We ordered Cebuana Manggo Cheesecake, idk but at first taste it tastes like mango graham, i can't taste the cream cheese but at the later part, i've already tasted the taste of a cheesecake. My brother ordered the leche flan, it has this bitter taste maybe because of the caramel? idk.
The staffs are also accommodating. 👍
Kuya J is a suitable alternative to Gerry's Grill when you're in SM City Marikina and craving for good Filipino food. They have a nice, clean and classy ambiance although not as spacious.
We like their Sizzling Sisig with Egg and Kare-Kareng Bagnet. Portions are for sharing and prices reasonable.
I got to (finally) try Kuya J’s best-selling dishes last week, and I have to say, it's almost hard to believe that this place started out as a humble eatery along the streets of Cebu. So far, everything we tried were yummy!
I have to start off with their Crispy Pata. Crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside! Ahhh, it was tasty and delicious. It had perfectly deep-fried pork skin, with tender juicy pata meat. Whyyyy was this invented?! Mmmmmmm. We also ordered their Grilled Scallops, Lumpia Presko, Kare-kare and Crispy Catfish which were all winners to me, paired with bagoong rice and Danggit rice. Oh, and not to forget the Pork Belly Sisig and Pancit!
Service can be improved but I understand it was a busy day in the kitchen. Place is great for family/barkada lunch/dinner. Drive over to the nearest Kuya J’s Restaurant to try it out for yourself! See yah
First time to eat here with my partner. We odered Sizzling sisig with egg, filipino favorite sizzling, crispy and crumbly chopped pork belly na hot na hot sa sarap (190). My favorite grilled scallops best seller and Kuya J signature. Grilled scallops "na punong puno ng cheesy butter topping" (230). Grilled pork belly with atchara (210). Garlic rice platter (140) good for 3-4person. Tablea coffee flan its kuya j signature. Its batangas tablea flavored flan with coffee caramel topped with dried coconut sprinkles and cream (85). Cantalouprle shake (85) and watermelon (85). All in all, i like the place, its clean, quite, the waiters are very friendly and fast.
Kuya J is not your typical Filipino Restaurant. They gave some of the Filipino favorites a twist! Make sure to try their Adobo sa Mangga and Pochero - super yummy! For dessert, must try the Saba Banoffee and Tablea Coffee Flan. Serving size is not that big.
I must say this is a must visit filipino specialty resto in marikina. The food is at par level with gerry's grill. No wonder it is always full of hungry stomachs hence others take time to wait to get a table reservation. Food in menu is good for sharing for atleast 2-3 people so price is reasonable.
The only thing i did not like is the noise pollution. The place is small and crowded so you can hear everyone speaking. Nonetheless, the taste of food overides the noise and you'll enjoy eating atleast to the last piece.
The ambiance of the place is great, it gives you a chill feeling. The service in the SM Marikina branch was really nice. They really made sure to entertain us in every way possible. As for the food, it was very delicious. The kare kareng bagnet, one of their best seller was really fantastic. It was our favorite. 😊 I also love how juicy their grilled tuna belly. And surprisingly, the pancit and sisig rice was a nice combination. My dad liked it a lot. 👏🏻😉 and for their desserts my sister ordered the fried halo-halo which is really innovative. 😊 I ordered the tablea coffee flan and I can say that I really love the combination of coffee and chocolate. ❤️
We really recommend it to everyone who love to eat Filipino dishes. I already recommended it to my friends and schoolmates. 😋 We will definitely come back here because we really enjoyed the food. The next time that we visit the place I want to try their crispy bangus ala pobre, camaron rebosado and the humba binagoongan rice platter. 😊👍🏻
great job po! 😊
Place is really pleasant to dine at. Their Kare-kareng Bagnet is a must try! Loved their Crispy Pata as well. Just please have long patience when it comes to serving your orders though. Medyo matagal lng talaga! A must-visit resto indeed!
My gf was craving for baked shellfish. We came across this restaurant in SM Marikina. They serve Grilled Scallops. Which was great. We also ordered Crispy Pata, and it was the crispest Pata I've tasted. Also a must try are their shakes. I forgot the name but it's Kuya J "something" shake. The service was also fast enough. The only downside was our table. It was too cold. They could have adjusted it and made sure the vents are not directly towards the foods which made them cold in a few. Other than that, it's a must go to place if you want to grab some good food and good service.
I really like the scallops and also sisig. I love the ambiance and the music playlist! Typical lumpiang shanghai and fresh lumpia. Will be back for scallops!
I like the ambiance its quite relaxing and the food super duper delicious. I like their Grilled Scallops and the unique taste of Adobo sa Manga. The Crunchy Lechon Kawali perfectly cooked and their crispy wings were most favorite of my kids. Beef Caldereta is superb in taste. Will try other dishes next time and it will be very soon. Price is okay.
Service is efficient, pleasant, and the friendly waiters are willing to explain items on their menu should you walk up to the restaurant with a perplexed look on your face (as I did the first time). Having dined here several times now, I've had the privilege of trying a few items.
I enjoy going to Kuya J for a handful of things. The primary reason is the crispy, fatty, Lechon Kawali. So damn good!
A Lechon Kawali is a deep fried pork belly (some boil the belly first to make it super tender) which is accompanied with a gravy sauce and served with rice. It's super fatty but it's also very delicious! I try to scoop out as much of the jiggly bits of fat to consume the crispy skin and meat, otherwise it's cholesterol overkill. Every time I consume something excessively fatty of this magnitude I can't help but feel guilty about it. And since I do give in to temptation on a regular basis I should maybe start taking baby aspirin to prevent a premature heart attack. LOL.
The Lumpia Frito (Fried Spring Roll) is pretty tasty. Better than some homemade ones I've tried. The filling is well seasoned. Seriously the food here is amazing, if you want some good authentic tasting Filipino food this is the spot!
I actually ate at ugong pasig hypermart branch. They just started a month ago. Firt time eating here and ordered pancit canton, sizzling bukalo with 2 unlimited rice and fried halo halo for desert. Well im a pancit canton lover so i can rate the canton very good. A bit over topping would greatly boost my grade on it. Sizzling bulalo is an eye catcher. Taste great as well! A bit salty though. And lastly the fried halo halo. Very unique idea! Love it! On the first bite it was explosion of flavors! But after going halfway through it. Umay. Deep fried so its expected that its very oily. But it taste good!
Very nice ambience of the place seems to be intimidating at first, not until you open their menu and taste their food. Definitely a thumbs up for the price and service they provide. Perfect for a long seat down meal to enjoy all their dishes from appetizer to dessert. Will definitely be back and refer to friends.
Cant find SM Marikina Branch for Kuya J so just posted here in Marikina City Branch. Great Filipino comfort food. I particularly loved their baked scallops and creamy seafood with corn soup. We also ordered ribs, pork barbecue, grilled squid and rellenong talong for family lunch. Servings are just right for sharing. The prices, the ambience and service are recommendable. All the food we ordered are delish!
