If there is a Japanese Curry Place that wins my heart, this is the place I would say that did. Aside from the fact that they got set meals, you could actually customize the level of spiciness of the curry, your rice and if you want some add ons for a price that does not really break the bank.

I always go for the Pork Cutlet Curry, Standard Spiciness Level and I make sure to get the 15 Grain Rice (plus 30php) because its way healthier. And then I added Orange Juice and Ice Cream for 110php.

The Meat is tender and it got thick slices which for me, makes me full already but the curry is just so good that I can finish it despite being so full already. While the juice is fresh which I really love 'coz it cleanses my palette from all the spice and for me to enjoy my ice cream too.

I'm not really a big fan of Japanese foods (don't come for me on this one 😂), so no high expectations at all. BUT OH MY GOSSSHHH!! THIS IS THE BOMB DOT COM! I finished everything in 5 minutes(no joke). From the quality of the pork, to the perfectly cooked omelette, and ofcourse, the curry... 5/5!! Will definitely come back and bring my friends along with me 💕💎

I always wanted to try out this place but never seem to bother since there are more new and more exciting places opening around the city. Finally I was able to dine here and I must say I regret all the time that I didn't dine here. Their curry was amazing, rich thick and just the right amount of spice, its not the sweet variant which i hate about currys. Even the rice is amazing. The pork cutlet is comparable to the best katsu places as well.

While a bit expensive, its worth it and will definitely leave you satisfied

The food was good but the server was rude to us. We waited for 10 mins to be seated since we were 6 pax. Not all my friends ordered so the server told us that next time we dine in only those who will order should be seated. Such a bad experience!

I was hesitant about this place because the servings look small for its price. However, much to our delight, we were proven wrong. The servings were hefty and will really fill you up. The curry is one of the best we've tasted. It was smooth and very flavorful. The meat was perfectly cooked. I can't wait to go back here.

The curry dishes are so good. Our favorite is the curry omelette with mushroom or chicken. Now, they offered naan bread with curry sauce. The salad is refreshing.

I really like the ambiance, as for the food, it is also good and lots of choices, just that the price is a bit too much but hey, food is good, maybe I’m just a cheapskate. But I hope it will be less expensive so that others can try without thinking about the money.

Best Japanese curry in the world.

Ok, I'm a little biased as I'm addicted to Coco curry. Anyway, this branch is probably the most casual of all the Philippine Coco Ichibanya restaurants I've been to. That's not a bad thing because the Coco curry restaurants in Japan are fast food places and way less fancy than the ones here, even when compared to this store. Let me clarify that, I'm not saying it's bad. I'm just saying it's casual. And that's a good thing.

The menu is identical to other Philippine stores though the Japan restaurants have a different menu sometimes varying per prefecture. The service is also good.

Overall, it's a great place to try out Japanese curry.

Indeed a comfort food for Japanese-style curry lovers. I have tried their curry dishes so many times (pork cutlet, chicken cutlet, fish fillet, veggie curry, cheese hamburger, squid, shrimp cutlet, sausage) yet I keep coming back to try their other variants. What's also good in this restaurant is that you can customize your meal - serving size of the rice, spiciness of the curry, toppings, and set meal combinations.

The great flavor of their curry inspired me to create my own home-cooked Japanese style curry. I tried the Vermont brand Japanese curry, Java Curry and even Coco Ichibanya's packed curry sauce, but their restaurant-cooked curry is still the best. I also tried the curry dishes of other authentic Japanese restaurants within Metro Manila but for me, Coco Ichibanya is still at the top of the list.

Their staff are also very courteous and accommodating. I hope they could have an express take-out stall here in the Philippines.

Had the chicken cutlet curry which was served hot and relatively quick for a casual restaurant (but I wasn't exactly counting the time). Meals are moderately priced at 300+ for the curry + meat selections, while 200+ for the curry + vegetable selection. Service was good.

I love coco ichibanya. In fact, this one is one of my comfort food and default restaurant to go when I can't think of any, days like today. And my usual order is their pork cutlet curry. You can adjust the amount of rice and spice level of your curry. I usually go for 2 or 3. For this particular visit though, in as much as I want to give it a 5, I don't think i can. For one, the dish is quite sad looking as old oil might have been used. Ambiance wise, it wasn't as classy as their other branches. I mean, the chill and relaxing vibe isn't present in this branch. Nevertheless i still love their food and hopefully they can improve on those other areas mentioned.

This is our go-to place whenever we crave for curry. 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴

Let me start out by saying I love tonkatsu but I am not a fan of curry so I never felt trying Coco Ichibanya would be worth t. Thankfully, I got to try this because it was someone else's treat.

I ordered what I felt was the simplest - the pork cutlet curry. The pork was cooked perfectly, crunchy but tender, and the curry was rich and flavorful. I really enjoyed eating it with the pickled condiments at the table.

I don't have a picture of it (because it wasn't very photogenic) but the coffee jelly was absolutely amazing!! It had a smooth strong coffee taste with a light cream that wasn't too sweet.

I still don't think I would crave Japanese curry, but I definitely enjoyed the meal and I'm glad I got to try it at least once.

Coco Ichibanya is Japan's #1 Curry House! 🍛

My Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry deserves 5 Stars!⭐
The way they cooked my omelet resembles how they make it in Japan. It is so fluffy and tasty! (drools)
The curry sauce is so appetizing which perfectly complements the Japanese rice.

They offer build your own curry plates that you can customize from the amount of rice, to the spiciness of the curry and even the number of toppings. Curry meals even have add on options that comes with their soup of the day, beverage of your choice and ice cream!

I’ve been to a coco ichibanya in japan, so there is comparison, and it definitely lived up to par with the quality of the food they had there. The prices are actually pretty much the same, too.
The taste of the curry is very japanese authentic, and the serving size is pretty much the same.
The service is pretty good, even though the get filled up during lunch time.
I really liked their iced coffee too. It was delicious and just perfect.

I originally wanted to eat someplace else but they refused to seat us because it's not 11am yet (or at least hand us the menu or something while we wait outside instead of engaging us in a staring contest, it was literally less than 10 minutes before 11). I have no problem with waiting, but their indifference just put me off for some reason.
So we decided to eat at CoCo Ichibanya instead. Lovely meal as always. Sad that their free choux cream (for mixed curry dishes or omelette curry dishes) wasn't available that day (or was it only available for a period of time?) but I was still very happy with my meal. I had Yakiniku curry. The amount of meat is little but honestly I'll be okay with the curry sauce alone. I like level 5 because it's hot but not spicy enough that I'll need to drink a lot of water/soda. But I want to try a spicier level next time. The breading of their pork cutlet is delicious.
It's my first time trying their ice cream. The scoops are small but I was really full (I had a lot of rice!) so I did not ate it by myself. The texture is very firm and the taste isn't very extraordinary, but it's still a nice way to cap off your meal.

My fave go-to curry place! Everything on the menu is worth trying as their food always meets my expectation. Totally in love with their naan bread too, which sadly was not available last night. Tried their seafood basket and the calamares were soooo good!!! Wish it came with a better sauce though, serving them with catsup does not seem to do them justice. Dipping them in curry sauce worked though! Hahaha and as always, I will surely come back for more!!

The food’s really good!! Comparable to Pork Tonkatsu Curry I’ve had in Osaka. Their curry’s a bit more robust, especially the one served with the Naan but it’s pretty much all right.
A must try is the Milk Choux Cream—one of the best desserts I’ve tried. The pastry is nice and flaky and the ice cream is smooth and silky.
Ambience-wise, the restaurant has a good natural flow, fantastic decor and a relatively cool room temperature.
Staff are really friendly and helpful, and are attentive. 5 Stars!!

✨Outstanding japanese curry dishes!

👸🏽My girlfriend and i were craving for japanese katsu, and after being disappointed by closed stores and long lines of other japanese restaurants, we came upon coco ichibanya and decided to try it out. This was a small dream come true for me as i have wanted to try out japanese curry since i started seeing it on anime. 😂

🍛we ordered pork cutlet with vegetables curry and pork cutlet omelet curry which were both fantastic.

🌶They have a spice scale for the curry if you want to be adventurous.

🍹You can also add a small additional fee of 80 to bump it up for a combo drink, soup, or dessert. I ordered the milk tea and it came with separate milk and sweetener which you can mix as you please. Nice little touch.

🖼The ambience is good, but it is open to the rest of the mall which may get noisy as a lot of people are walking by the store, but i guess that's way better than being enclosed in an area and get stuck smelling like curry!

✅overall great experience! Will definitely come back. 😬

I am not a curry person, but I think Coco Ichibanya made me appreciate Japanese curry more. I ordered their Fried Chicken Omelet Curry, and I feel like my whole perspective on curry dishes just changed. Flavor of the curry is just right and not too powerful. And I must tell you that their omelet is amazingly cooked. Its consistency matches well with the meal. And did I already mention that their coffee tastes really good? I wish there's a branch around Legaspi Village, so I could visit Coco Ichibanya more often.

living in japan for 5years then moving back to motherland, cocos have been my favorite food in japan. so having cocos in manila is such a delight for me!!

the place was really clean. well lit too. staff are friendly as well.

i ordered 200g rice, chicken cutlet, regular spice, extra cheese. (ive memorized it already, no need for a menu! hahaha) and coke. the serving was huge. the curry sauce is 10/10 the same taste like the cocos in japan. the chicken cutlet ill give it a 7/10 compared to the ones in japan. i add cheese to lessen the spicyness of the curry flavor(i dont like spicy food.) over all it was a good meal.

*cocos is the only kind of curry that i eat since i dont really like curry and spicy food.

ps. jap people calls it cocos. not really coco or coco ichi. 😉

i wish they also sell the boxed curry sauce.

will surely be back here again. 😊

Giving our experience a rate of 5 because, dang! They deserve it so why not give it?!

My boyfriend is a huge fan of curry so I decided to look out for curry houses in Manila which led me to finding out Coco Ichibanya. We tried it right away and fret not because even if it’s on the pricey side, it would still give you a happy and satisfied tummy.

I ordered pork cutlet with vegetables, while the boyfriend had his cheese hamburger curry with chicken cutlet and vegetables. At Coco Ichibanya, you can customize the amount of rice with your liking and the level of spiciness of your curry sauce. We had it at 200g and 300g of rice in their level 2: Hot curry sauce. The pork and chicken were thick but was evenly cooked and tender. The vegetables were good too, it actually melts in your mouth. The sauce was really satisfying and the spiciness left us craving for more. My boyfriend even ordered another cup of curry sauce because it was too good, he couldn’t get enough of it!

It was such a great experience to be honest. I am not fond of curry but their food’s really worth the price. I wasn’t able to take photos too because we immediately enjoyed the food after it was served to us. But I’m pretty sure that we’ll go back here.

More powers, Coco Ichibanya! ❤️

Curry lovers, rejoice!

I lost count on the number of times I've been in this place. But eversince they opened a branch in Robinsons Manila, it has been a go-to weekend lunch place whenever we can't figure out where to eat.

The first few times I've been here, I was alone and it's pretty convenient for private people who wants to enjoy a good (e)book while eating.

So this place has good lighting and a cheerful ambiance. I love reading here alone but has also brought family and friends and was never dissappointed 😊

So the deal with their menu is that you can customize a meal as to:
- how spicy/hot you prefer
- how much rice you want
- protein (meat, sea food, veggies, etc)
- if you want to make it a meal with soup, salad or dessert

The first time, I ordered their Pork Cutlet and Vegetables Curry upgrading my meal with tomato soup and calamansi iced tea. I choose medium "heat" for the spiciness. I highly recommend this meal as it gives you a general idea on their dishes and curry type. I am not crazy for curry but I liked their offerings.

I came back here with family and friends whonare curry lovers and they loved the place.

Serving time's pretty quick and the staff are friendly, patient and helpful!

As I said, I've been coming back here fornthenlongest time. Not stopping now 😆

Coco Ichibanya is a Japan based restaurant specializing in all things curry, it has staple dishes like pork cutlet curry, chicken curry, and omurice curry. It even has unusual ones like Natto Curry for those adventurous foodies and Cheese Curry (just cheese?🤔)

This is my second time to eat at Coco Ichibanya (the first one was at Estancia). In a general sense I think that Japanese Curry is still pretty niche here, despite the restaurant having a small queue during the time when we ate there. It didn't penetrate the market as much as... let's say ramen or sushi.

But for someone who isn't a big fan of overly spicy foods (my stomach hates it, didn't have much of a choice 😅). I am waaay into it, hah! The flavorful and savoury taste of curry is just something I could never hate, regardless of spiciness. (sorry tummy ✌️)

The place has a garden like kinda patio feel to it, there's artificial greeneries scattered around the dining area, with splashes of reds from some of the chairs, and the overall warm atmosphere really matches the foods that it offers.

Service was pretty quick but not anything worth raving.

I ordered the Chicken Curry Rice Gratin (because cheese and also because it looks really appetizing). It was served piping hot which is a plus but unfortunately it fell flat on flavor, I barely taste the curry despite the rice absorbing most of it, I actually had to scoop some of the curry sauce on my brother's plate just to get the flavor back. The chicken was a bit dry and a bit tough, but the cheese gratin was great, it was fun scraping the burnt cheese off the edge of the bowl. 😋

The price is definitely on the high side, but definitely worth going back since curry is totemo oishii.

I'll probably skip the gratin and go straight to the regular curry rice. 💁‍♂️

I had the classic pork cutlet and vegetable curry. I love that you can customize the dish to your tastes. The level 3 spice was still a little mild for me, will have to try the super spicy level 5 next time! The pork cutlet was done well with a light crispy coating and the curry and rice were great. I highly suggest you eat a generous serving of the lovely pickled veg that comes on every table with your curry.

It's a little on the pricy side for curry but the quality is there and this is a famous Japanese chain so I'll let it slide.

The ambiance is simple. Not too much to comment on here. The service is also average.

I already ate here twice since this is the closest Coco Ichibanya in Binondo, Manila but definitely not my first time to eat in coco ichi! Their food serving is as usual, worth it for the price. But in this particular branch, it's always jam packed. I wish they'll add more chairs and make their service faster. It will always take around 15-20 mins to serve the food and it's hard to call the server's attention. I guess it's because in the populated entrance facing Ermita that is why it is always jam packed. My last order was Curry Udon, I love how mildy spicy it is and the aroma of the curry soup is nice. Worth the wait for the slow service (but I believe the crew is workable with doing everything faster next time~)

I ordered the curry with chicken and omelette and it tastes good. The only problem that kinda bothers me is the price and the lack of colors in the dish. I personally think that the omelette brings out a good presentation to it but adding vegtables like carrots would kinda make it look better. I know that they offer veggies but it requires extra payment and i think that’s too much for a single platter containing a few amount of ingredients.

A restaurant that specializes in Japanese curry, most of the meals they serve are flavorful. Each dish can be further customized in terms of the spice level of the curry and the amount of rice that comes with it.

One of the most notable dish is beef and omelette rice - the combination is perfect. Although somtimes, the fat to meat ratio of the beef is off, that is, there is more fat than meat.

Also tried their carbonara, the sauce is rich and buttery. The pasta is cooked just right.

Considering the service, the staff is highly attentive and acts quickly.

The place and ambiance was very cute. Servers were also prompt and very nice. As for the food, it was very tasty. Both me and my friend loved the taste. I took the level 3 spicy level, and was still able to handle it, although I love spicy food so I'm kinda used to it. I think overall the experience was good but I guess the only thing that kinda impeded it from being a superb one is the price. I'd say it's a tad bit overpriced especially when you consider other katsu places at the same price range with a better bang for the buck deals.

Service is GREAT they are able to remember our orders (like salad dressing choices) because of how often we eat here. The food is great, best Japanese curry that I've had so far. The choices are vast. Make sure to not sit near the far corner of the counter or the shop though. Though that spot affords you a bit more privacy than other seats, it also guarantees a 80% chance that you would also have a hard time calling for your server.

I'm really not a big fan of curry. I find the spices too strong and pungent. But I found Coco Ichibanya inviting though I never really had the chance to try it before. Today this curry literally saved me when I was in a hurry. I had to squeeze in some errands and lunch in an hour. I ordered their standard shrimp and squid curry. Food was served promptly and it's exactly how it looks in the menu. Portions were really generous as well. Surprisingly, the curry flavor was not overwhelming. The shrimp and squid were plump and fresh. I actually enjoyed it. I also tried their calamansi iced tea which was a little too sweet. Probably gonna eat here again when I get the chance. Finally, the complimentary bottled UCC creamy caffe latte was a welcomed added touch.

Been here twice and it doesn't disappoint. If you want to try Japanese curry, you should really eat at Coco Ichibanya. You can choose the level of spiciness as well as how much rice should go with your curry. 'Hot' level of spiciness works for me. The regular serving size comes with 1.5 cups of rice already.

I recommend the chicken cutlet curry—tender and delicious. The servers are very accommodating. Place is well lit.

I'd give them a 5 if they served free cold or hot tea as most Japanese restos do. :)

I was watching simon and martina-- travel youtubers who were vlogging about Japan. There was this one episode about Coco ichibanya. They made it so enticing. So magical. So mouth watering. That made me promise myself that when I go to Japan I got to go here. So when I heard they had a store here in the Philippines, why wait? When they have already a store here.

And let me tell you... I was a tad bit disappointed. The way they hyped and raved about the curry was like when they ate it it was like ambrosia, food for thr Gods!

While for me it's good. Yummy but not life changing. Maybe if it wasn't hyped for me I would've given a much higher rating. Maybe the one in Japan and here in the Philippines are different.

So enough about that. I'll talk about my expirence in this store. The staff was attentive. They've been refilling my glasses everytime. I didn't need to call out to them except that one time when we already finished our food-- well I kinda understand about that.

The food that I ordered was pork tonkastu. -20g of rice. Standard price. Plus an add of cheese. Sadly they didn't have a choice of curry like beef or chicken like the one that simon and martina has. But still got to customize mine.

Taste wise, it was alright. Your standard japanse curry. I was glad I only got the standard spice. Just a little kick not too much since I have such a low tolerance in spice.

The place was great! Small. Cute ambiance. But too open for my liking. Since it was by the entrance, there were too many people constantly going back and forth.

Overall it was okay. I can still recommend people to come here and will also comeback just to try thier other dishes.

The best japanese curry I have ever had. Expect the serving could be for 2 person (if you are on diet). You can add some rice serving (with add'l payment). Could pick the level of spiciness for the curry (from 1-5, for some dishes). We ordered:

- Fried Chicken Curry Omelette: the chicken is crispy and you can choose your own spiciness of the curry (imho the level 5, which is the spiciest, not spicy at all)
- Hashed beef omelette: the curry has a like spaghetti sauce, milky and tomato taste. The beef is tender. Unfortunately, this menu has set the spiciness level, which is just mild.

I love Japanese curry and the first time I saw this franchise was at Estancia Mall. Unfortunately, when I saw the display, I was shocked at how pricey it is considering the countable pieces of meat on each plate.

So come Sunday family day and my brother was treating. Yay, this was my great opportunity to try this restaurant. Hehe. I got overwhelmed by the menu and ended up ordering Shrimp Curry Gratin. I love the shrimp pieces and the Japanese curry. I mow understand why it is priced that way and how I am willing to pay for this curry.

I had few more visits after that first time. I tried their Chicken Hambugu w Egg and this time I had a taste of the curry. The perfect balance of spices made it really authentic and enjoyable. I also find it great that you can reduce and add rice, and also choose the heat intensity of the curry.

I came here with a friend as she recommended their curry. The place is simple and nothing outstanding. It was clean too. Part of the restaurant is an open space to the mall.

The service was okay throughout our meal. No problems encuntered.

The food is the star of the olace. We both had the porkchop with egg. The curry can be personalized with their levels of heat. My friend got standard while I got hot. I absolutely loved the curry and their food. I liked the consisitency of their curry which is a bit thicker than soup but not too thick that you'd have trouble slurping from a spoon nor chunky. The heat made my food even better. Hot already had me sweating and I would try hotter options next time. The pork chop was crispy and flaky on the outside and tender in the inside. The egg covering their rice was soft and it was not bland by itself either so it was seasoned well. You can have add-ons if you wish but that would cost extra. As for the price, I think it could be a little cheaper but the quality was good so it was justifiable.

I would definitely have their curry again!

CoCo ICHIBANYA is a curry based japanese cuisine that features many different japanese curry dishes. At first glance, it may not be that good, but when you actually taste the dishes, you would shout in glee because the food is really delicious. I am not really an avid fan of curry but the dishes here are superb and flavorful! If I would have a chance to go back and eat here, I would not hesitate to do so! I absolutely love it! 👍

Summary: CURRY, a tamer/ milder kind (NOT the strong pungent smells-like-body-ODOR kind)
4/5

I passed the opportunity to try this out when I was in Japan. I love curry - case in point: my favorite menu in Pepper Steak is CURRY beef pepper rice with cheese, hahaha. Naturally, imagine my excitement when I saw this place at Rob Manila.

To truly appreciate the food, It’s kind of obvious that you have to like curry. Almost all of the orders are served with curry sauce on the side. I kind of understand why they toned down the flavors a bit, was it created to suit the Filipino palate? I have tried curry in Japan and the flavor just hits your mouth. I think this adjustment would be more appealing to the public. I would have preferred a little more kick to the curry, but what they serve is good. The sauce has the perfect viscosity. And despite it seeming to flood the plate, it doesn’t overpower the rest of the dish.

My recommendation: Pork Cutlet with Omelette 4.5/5- The cutlet was cooked tonkatsu style, and the Japanese have perfected fried and breaded pork. Delicious! the omelette was also the right amount of runny and cooked. it was the perfect topping to the curry rice and pork.

And get their eggplant side dish 5/5: soft juicy interior and crispy fried exterior. It complements the tonkatsu well!

Grilled Pork with kimchi: 3/5- ordered this despite the odd combination of kimchi and curry at the suggestion of the servers, and also because i was hoping for a A-HA moment. however, it wasn’t what i expected. the kimchi is sour and it does not go well with the curry. I would pass on this.

Spice level: The waitress said level 1 (mild) = no spice, so I tried level 2.. hmm.. medyo kulang sa spiciness. Will be trying other items and will up the level of spice next time.

I've been meaning to try out Coco Ichibanya for a while now, but only got to do so recently. It isn't much of a shocker that I liked it as I love Japanese curry but, yum, should have tried it sooner!! Haha, can't wait to come back and try their other dishes.😆

Anyway, since there were a lot of choices, at first I was at a loss but then I settled for their cheese hamburger curry. Jt did not disappoint. I love how flavorful the patty was, and the cheese? It perfectly complemented the whole dish! Definitely something I'd come back for, although I am planning on getting to try a new dish before that haha.

My mom got their pork cutlet curry, which I also got to sample, and it was good too.

I liked that you can choose how spicy your curry can be, I think I chose only 2 notches higher from the regular level and I can already feel a hint of heat. It's also nice that you can choose how much rice you want - you can even decrease the amount of rice and that will also reflect on your bill (- 20 or 15 pesos, as far as I remember).

We had their triple scoop ice cream for dessert - perfect way to cap off our meal if you ask me. 😀

Service was quick and efficient, not sure if they have wifi. Bathroom was clean though.

Definitely coming back in the near future!! 😄

My boyfie loved his order, Shrimp cutlet curry. They have curry set meals. They have big serving. What you see in their sample display is what you get. I love their dessert. 😂

Ambiance: It is nice and clean.

I loved that Coco Ichibanya Curry House have options in their Menu for rice (in grams). I chose 200 grams only 'coz I'm not big on rice. I also get  Php20 deducted from my bill, because their standard rice is 300 grams. I like variety so I upgraded to have soup, salad, and hot tea for Php100. Taste-wise, the burger was good, rice wasn't stiff, salad was dressed just right.
*Cheese Hamburger Curry: Php360
*3-items upgrade (Soup, salad, hot tea): Php100

I'm a fan of Coco Ichibanya's curry! I often eat at Rockwell's branch but the food quality at Ermita's is okay. When too many customers are present, service can be slow.

I know this is a late review but still I would want everyone to know how good COCO ICHIBANYA @ Robinson's Place Manila is. Well, not actually good but the BEST JAPANESE CURRY HOUSE I've ever been through. Eating spicy foods is definitely my thing. When I learned that they only offer level 5 of spiciness here in the Philippines. I asked one of the staffs if they can do me a level 10 of spiciness on my Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry and they said yes. I was really happy and excited at that time because finally I get to try one. They did not fail me, it is indeed the spiciest curry I have ever tasted and it is so GOOOOOOOOOOD!!!  Kudos to the staffs who accommodated my request. So every time I go there, I always request for level 10. I really recommend this particular branch. Guys please come and visit the store... Try the level 10, it's all worth it!!!

The holiday season is a great excuse to meet up with good friends in nice restos. That's why I grab every opportunity to go to places that I haven't tried out yet. I know that the Japanese are quite obsessed with curry. That's why I decided to invite my friend to Coco Ichibanya for us to catch up on things and of course to eat Japanese style curry.

We both tried out the pork cutlet with omelette rice for P360. The serving is quite generous, you will get an omelette draped rice (omurice) decked with a medium sized deep fried pork cutlet. This of course comes with a generous amount of Curry Sauce. By the way you can customize the spice level of your curry. Plus for an additional P100, you can add your choice of 2 sides or 1 side and 1 drink (any drink except for alcoholic beverages.) We decided on a side salad with sesame dressing with a glass of iced milk tea.

The server was attentive and brought us water without waiting for us to ask for one. Also, it's a plus that we did not have to wait long for our orders to arrive.

I have to say that I love the way the omelette is cooked. I love how soft and smooth it was draped over the white Japanese rice. The curry sauce is also good, the spice level is just enough. So you can still taste the flavor. There is a hint of tartness to the sauce, I don't know if you'll catch it but I bet most people won't. The pork cutlet is thick enough for me, it goes well with the curry sauce. It's seasoning does not interfere with the already savory curry.

The side salad consists of lettuce, cherry tomatoes and small cucumbers. Both of us went with the sesame dressing, as mayo based ones are the safest. It's good, the dressing is sweet salty and tart with a nutty undertone from the sesame.

The milk tea is so so. Nothing special, they just presented it in a fancy way by serving it plain in a dome shaped glass with the cream and sugar at the side. I'm quite sure that it's just Lipton tea, since I saw boxesof it displayed on top of their bar shelf.

The squid salad is just like the side salad with a few pcs. of fried squid toppings. We also went with sesame dressing for this. The squid is soft but it's what you call "malansa."

The place looks bright and inviting with plastic plants as the decor. What actually draws you in is the warm but bright lighting and the pop of green from the plastic plants and of course the yummy looking Resin food display from the window is definitely an eye candy for the hungry shoppers.

Downside is that you have to shell out at least P300 per head.

I had my eyes set on this place ever since it opened in Robinsons. Alas, the time came when I finally got to eat here. When we went to Japan, I didn't really get the chance to eat curry so I was desperate to eat curry that is authentic.

I ordered the Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry and I setbthe spiciness level to Hot (2). I'm actually a huge fan of spicy meals and when I got to taste this, at first the spice was overwhelming but bite after bite, I got to really enjoy the spiciness. It was also a big serving, maybe if I wasn't that hungry I won't be able to finish it. I also like the omellete because it was si fluffy though the pork breading was not really a stand out. My mom, on the other hand, ordered Chicken Curry Cheese Gratini and it was an absolute hit. Her set meal also included a Sesame salad (which is delicious as well) and icecream (absolute must try!!!).

All in all, I recommend this place because you really get great value for your money.

Curry has always been a comfort food for me and if I could, I would eat it everyday. I love it for the beautiful marriage of spices, meat and vegetables. I've tried Filipino, Thai, Indian and Vietnamese curries before but never Japanese so I was instinctively curious as a lot of people said theirs doesn't taste as spicy and also is a bit sweet.

I tried out Coco's Tonkatsu with Omelette curry. Presentation wise, the food looks visually appealing and has very generous serving. The meat was crispy and tender, egg almost creamy and soft, rice is the good kind of moist. I had my curry on spice level 1 and it was the level that perfectly hits my spot. It was really good and tasty, I honestly didn't expect. Would be perfect if there's some pickles on the side to cut through the taste.

Service and restaurant ambiance is also good, I almost forgot there's a lot of Christmas shoppers around. A must try and must come back to place.

The first thing that gets your attention upon -entering- this resto is -the wonderful smell of curry-. Pagpasok pa lang yan, ha, wala pa yung food ;)

Place: Clean design, plus may sorta homey feel because of the chalkboard signs and "plants" (to maybe pose as herbs daw, Sparky said). I like the open kitchen, it shows the hustle and bustle inside.

Service: Very attentive servers. Prompt, polite. Also, I don't know if sinasadya, but they're mostly females. We only saw two males (kitchen).

FOOD:
Dude, masarap. As in.

I tried: Kimchi + pork slices, topped with pork katsu. If someone told me before, "Try kimchi with japanese curry!", I'll look at them like they grew another head. But that's what I tried without prompt from anyone, because I had a hankering to try it. It worked. Surprisingly. I just don't know why there's a sorta seafood-y taste as I was eating the strips and kimchi. I kept on looking for squid in my dish, kasi akala ko meron. Anyway, added pork katsu on my dish (for an added fee of 160) because I wanted to taste the katsu. The katsu was tender yet crispy (even after being submerged on the hot curry sauce).

The curry sauce was the bomb. It took on the taste of whatever it's being eaten with, and yet it still distinctly retained the curry taste. Sparky chose the pork katsu + vegetables. I tasted his curry sauce and it had the taste of the veggies. It was served on a proper temperature (hot, but not scalding), and the heat (spiciness) can be adjusted to how you like it (sorta like that of Yabu).

What's nice about their food is that it can be modified according to specifications. So.. next time maybe instead of adding pork katsu, I'll add more kimchi and pork strips.

Parking: the mall has parking. If you don't want the long walk, choose the Pedro Gil parking slot. If you're fine with walking, go to Padre Faura side, park on the open space.

Tip:
- come before lunch/dinner rush. Line gets über-long. We were lucky we got there just in time before the rush.
- choose this place if you are going for the laid-back date, or if you're with family.
- you have to wait a bit for food. Ours arrived after ten minutes.
