* Food Taste - 4 stars. Authentic Japanese cuisine without the frills. The tempura though I would rather that the batter does not separate or crumble when touched. There were times that they were overcooked and the batter tended to be quite a challenge.
* Food Selection - 5 stars. Wide selection of Japanese dishes and a sprinkle of Chinese ones.
* Cleanliness - 1 star. The place at quick glance looks clean but a careful inspection will tell you that its not. I mean its dusty and theres a general smell of dampness of the place once you enter. The cigarette stench is also strong since apparently they let their customers smoke every so often during night times.
* Price - 5 stars. Get the salmon sashimi. Big juicy pieces that really taste fresh! Definitely value for money though not for cleanliness.
* Servers - 2.7 stars. The servers at this branch seem like they eternally lack sleep. They don't seem to exude happiness when called over. Can be quite a downer. Also, make sure to ask what accompanies the dishes that you ordered. The first time we ate here we had no idea that practically everything we ordered came with soup, rice, coffee and a dessert that we ordered rice separately. We were drowning in rice.
With the Morato branch under renovation, we tried the Pedro Gil branch. They accept reservations. Servers were attentive. Had the chirashi and uni, bento box and teppanyaki. Serving size is okay. The sashimi pieces could be thicker. Their sets come with miso soup and a dessert. Spent 2,300 pesos for the three of us.

Great value-for-money on the dishes’ serving size and taste.
Been here multiple times and enjoyed good and authentic sashimi, sushi, udon, ramen, teppan, and tempura dishes. I recommend dining in at lunch to avail of their set meals for an optimized bargain.
Their tsukemen wasn’t that great, though. They can improve on the broth and topping choice - but all in all, a great place to dine and enjoy good and affordable Japanese food.
Been here with my friends for a group project and I can say that the food is worth the price in terms of the generous serving especially of their ramen which is honestly good for 2 persons already. The taste is there. The server is attentive. The ventilation is just not that good.
No frills Japanese restaurant. They offer authentic tasting food without the arte of the place nor the plating.
I was not in the mood to try anything raw so I ordered the usual gyoza, tempura and gomoku chahan.
Gyoza is about 8 packed pieces, must order. I ordered the mix tempura due to the eggplant and okra included, should've stick to the ebi tempura instead since the mix is more expensive and there are many vegetables I didn't eat. Gomoku Chahan (miso soup included) taste authentic and walang dagdag na kaartehan. Also ordered the Asari Sake Mushi, about 20+ fresh clams.
Overall, I would definitely return to try their other dishes.
I love their Tuna Spicy Maki! Ordered it with the Seafood ramen and I was so satisfied with the meal. The portions actually quite large. So better share your order.. or not.
Overall good and delicious Japanese food!
We got a serving of Crazy Maki, Gyoza, and the Ume Bento. Food was good! Huge servings. Service was good too, the staff were very attentive. It's four stars because I think the lighting could use a little remodeling.
Really affordable Japanese resto. I tried their ramen, gyoza, and a few others -- all decent. I've yet to try their sushi platter, though, and the areas with traditional Japanese tables 😅
I had a long walk along Ermita and Malate area when I realized my craving for Japanese food. I have already a place in mind but it so happened I passed along Nihonbashi Tei. I decided to try it here.
I ordered Ume Bento, the least pricey among the bentos in the menu. It has a lot of food items! Tuna and tamago sashimi, beef stew and gyudon, tonkatsu and salad, pickled gerkins with kani and squid, agedashi tofu, miso soup and rice. That was a lot, wasn't it?
It was really a good decision to have dropped by this place and experience their Japanese cuisine. Winner!
Nihonbashi Tei is the true home of authentic Japanese food on this side of town. You can eat it sitting on the floor, as the Japanese do.
Takoyaki and gyoza were excellent, although a bit on the pricier side. Rice bowls are average.
excellent food. me and my husband enjoyed the food. the place is nothing fancy but you will notice that almost all of the tables have japanese nationals which shows that you're up for an authentic japanese food. price is pretty affordable comparing it with the quality of the food.
we ordered uni sashimi which the quantity surprised us! it's almost half tub if you buy it from a famous wet market.. too bad their best seller toro spicy maki is already sold out. but the uni and the salmon maki made up for it.. chicken teriyaki is also a hit. i love the sweetness of the sauce.. and the tempura! it's to die for!! the batter and crispiness is heavenly!
Good food, tastes very legit Japanese food. I like their Ankle Ramen and the best seller Toro Spicy Maki. Ambience is okay as well but they allow smoking, they have good ventilation though so it doesn't really fog inside. Fast service, waiters are friendly.
This has got to be one of the best Japanese Restaurants in Manila! We have been going here if we celebrate occasions. But Id like to share my experience.
Food: We tried the Spicy Tori Maki and yes it is like heaven!!! Its spicy but its not like they drizzled on spicy sauce or something but the spicyness is on the tuna itself. Also, its not nakakaumay which is good. One order consists of 6 big pieces of the Maki drizzled with some sort of breading (?).
Also would recommend their Omu Rice. Its good for 2-3 people. For ketchup lovers, you'd definitely want to try this.
Lastly, their Shoyu Ramen. Definitely a balance to everything you are eating. Also good for 2-3 people, good for the tummy as well.
In Nihon we have tried their Takuyaki, quite big on size. Their sauce has a really strong, so its not like the ones you try on Samurai or other Takuyaki stalls. Not my fave, though. Also their Bulgogi. Its really heavy in the stomach. Its good, the sauce is amazing but same with the takuyaki, not really my go-to food here.
Service: Great. You can ask for tea whether hot or cold. I recommend trying cold while eating then hot after eating before you leave the restaurant. They also have hot towels which they sometimes don't have when we eat there.
Place: Good. Chill. But its a smoking restaurant, so if you dont like smelling cigarettes while eating they have their private rooms but has an additional charge of 500. They do also have private tables inside, where you can really feel and experience Japanese culture.
Overall: Quite pricey for a student like me. But if youre alot definitely the food is worth it!
I give this restaurant a 4.5! Definitely one of my go-to places to eat for a treat.

Food was great, big in portions and designed well. The place also has a lot of space and areas for small groups that want a bit of privacy. Parking was also great because the had a basement parking area.
I've been to the other outlet, so compare to the one in makati the ambience here rather different. But still the food taste good. The price also sensible.. we ate sushi set, natto and bento also yakitori with shochu it just cost about 1350 peso. Good price..
It's my first time here because My place is a quite far from here. Alright. The food we ordered was so good, specially the california maki which is one of my favorite. The ambiance is great 👌🏻
I loved the food. The serving was big. They have service tea(hot or cold). I came here with a friend. We ordered for a bento set and a ramen. We were so full. Also the price is ok. The area was spacious.

If you know me well, you know that the way to my heart is through food, especially Japanese food. 🎌💜 My family knows this well too, and when I crave for Japanese food, they oblige. Yay 😍
One of those times, we went to Nihonbashitei. It's great that they have a branch in the Ermita area, since Tomas Morato / Makati are both farther away from our place. I placed a reservation a day before so we can be seated in one of their private rooms, as they allow smoking in their main dining area.
Their menu is very extensive, and first timers might get a bit overwhelmed with the selection. However, I see this as a plus point for a restaurant since they can cater to a wider variety if guests. Here's what we got, and their respective verdicts:
✔ SALMON SASHIMI (Php 380) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE! I've eaten this dish in so many places I've already lost count. 😅 While it may seem like a simple menu item where all you have to do is slice the fish and serve it with wasabi, lemon / calamansi, and soy sauce, it takes a certain level of mastery to make sure your sashimi is sliced into the right thickness, and they are NOT frozen so they will not have ice crystals in them. Nihonbashitei pretty much nailed those. 👌
✔ TORO SPICY MAKI (Php 250) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The spicy tuna is very fresh, and has that right amount of zing that makes this sushi very addicting. 😍 Bits of tempura batter are added for extra texture. 👌 The serving size is quite big too! They also have the spicy tuna in sashimi form (without the rolls), but I like this better because eating the spicy tuna on its own can be a but overwhelming and cloying at some point.
✔ SPECIAL YAKI GYOZA (Php 200) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Their gyoza is quite affordable, considering each serving already has 8 pieces in it. The meat is flavorful and not dry, but the wrapper was a bit soggy, probably due to the excess oil that was present in each gyoza. Albeit a bit oily, it's still quite legit for me.
✔ U.S. BEEF SUKIYAKI (Php 580) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In the menu, you'll find that they say this dish serves 1-2 persons, and has 150g of meat in it. But once you order other dishes with this (just like us), this can feed 3-4 people already! They serve this dish uncooked: the U.S. beef, vegetables, udon noodles, glass noodles, and tofu are served in two big platters, with a wok of broth, and a butane gas stove for cooking. The beef and vegetables all looked so fresh, I can't eait to devour everything. I like their serving style, because you can cook your meat according to your desired doneness. This dish is super filling and super yummy! 😋
Food was generally great, but the ambiance was a bit of a downer. The private room had old air conditioners, and it even spewed some dust clusters when it was first turned on! 😨 The light was also too dim. The rooms must be renovated soon, to give an exceptional dining experience to the guests. But the food: great value for money and authentic! 👌 Drop by this place if you're in the Ermita area, and are craving for some legit Japanese food. Itadakimasu!

If you want authentic and affordable Japanese Food, this is where you want to go. We went here as a group and the food was great. It’s not all great though, if you come here on a busy night, expect slow service. We’ve been here twice and have never been able to try their Gyoza as it’s always out of stock. But if you love Japanese food as I do, you’ll like this place.
Authentic Japanese and worth it for its price. It's actually cheap compared to other jap restos. However we ate here at 11am which is the time it opens, so they weren't able to serve us salmon because it was still frozen. Nonetheless, it was good.

This place may seem fancy and all but it's a great place to go to every now and then if you have a bit of extra. Going inside, the decoration is distinctly Japanese but simple as well. And you're greeted with a friendly-staff that would sit you accordingly. The menu items are plenty and the prices they have are well justified. So if you're craving for authentic Japanese cuisine, this is your definite go-to place.

Been here for several times. Had fun with shabu-shabu and good food. I love theor ramen since I am really a fan of ramen. You'll love the noodles and big serving. One thing I dont like about this place is, their waiter/waitress is not very accomodating. I think it is just that they have too many customer. But I love the place.
This is our go-to place for authentic japanese food in ermita. My dad and I eats here almost weekly for saturday lunch.
The interior is very japanese, a little lacking on the hygiene department (unclean rest room). But still draws crowd, esp japanese looking people with their filipina companions.
This is our default order: pork ginger set -comes with free cup of japanese rice and miso soup, beef udon (dad's favorite) and gyoza (must try). Total bill is 750pesos.
My dad is very picky with his food -he praises the beef broth for being tasty (quality soy sauce with mild sweetness), and not too salty unlike chinese noodle soup. He also loves their gyoza so much.
Other must try: beef teppanyaki, takoyako, sushi, toro maki, tempura.
Affordable lunch meal sets at this japanese go to resto! See my meal below? That's roughly around php 200! Freshest sushi + soup + iced coffee and a piece of chicken. It was all worth it! Most Japanese frequent this place.
If you have a healthy appetite for japanese then Nihonbashi Tei is your go-to, big servings for all!! Look at that maki tho. Lol money well spent!! 👌
Curiosity got me to try this resto, i thought at fisrt this place is a videoke bar. But what change my mind was my friends and i are looking for something new food and place as well. For me, from the first bite i know that i would go back at i would probably try their other dishes. At first i judged the picture on the menu, but still i just ordered something and it really satisfies me. Downside: Dining staff needs to improve their service... All staff must know everything on the menu and be attentive and smart enough to attend to the needs of the customer.
Bustling with Japanese guest tells you food taste is authentic surely enough been there several times never been disappointed. The place to go if one yearns for all time Japanese favorites sushi sashimi ramen gyoza bento. Lunch menu are value for money and filling to the hungry patrons. Service is excellent. Staff very efficient hard working smiles very good attitude. Food is classic taste we grown to love and constantly yearn for in any happy occassion. Complimentary mui cha or cold barley tea very comforting and cooling. Hot green tea complimentary is available as well.
Authentic japanese cuisine right in the heart of Malate. People may think from the facade that its one of those videoke or girly bars that are rampant in these parts but dont get fooled of its appearance. Inside is great place to eat when your craving for japanese food complete with the servers shouting their greetings welcoming you as you enter.
One of the best time to visit the place is between 11 am to 5pm as they offer lunch set menus at reasonable prices no they are not cheap but you will get value for your money as the serving are big and the taste is good.
I recently ordered the ramen set particularly the Ankake Ramen with Ongiri and iced coffee. The serving was huge even for me can be shared by 2 or 3 people depending how hungry they are. Hot or cold service tea is offered free of charge. The Ankake Ramen reminded me of Shinjukos Kantonmen as they looked similar but the former have a variety of fresh mushrooms aside from the generous amount of seafood. Also its on the sweet side like that of a sukiyaki.
Sure the place is not far from Robinsons Manila were you will find Ippudo, Ramen Nagi, Hokkaido Ramen, Ajisen Ramen and Tsukumo Ramen all of which ive tried and this is the least expensive yet one of the best out there.
This is my go-to Japanese restaurant when I'm craving for curry/ iced coffee and spicy tuna.
Their spicy toro sashimi is the best among the spicy tuna dishes I've had. It's the right level of spicy, but there was one time when the spicy tuna was too salty for me.
Their beef curry is always good and generous with the serving! it comes with free miso soup and amazing iced coffee. Price is 280 php, and it's sulit! I prefer the beef curry of the Makati branch because the beef in their Makati branch is more tender
Their grilled liver, chicken and chicken terriyaki hmmm. Nothing worth mentioning. The chicken terriyaki (forgot to take a photo) was too salty for my liking.
My other recommendations would be: Age Takoyaki (165 php) and Omurice Meal (220). The omurice is good for two people! Their new Beef Teppanyaki is nice too, but it's too oily!
As for the ambience, Nihonbashitei is old, and you won't be surprised to see some cockroaches on the walls :P
When my family and I went for a birthday celebration, we opted for a change of cuisine. Thus, we have decided to try out this place. Surprisingly, as soon as we completed our orders, the food was quickly delivered at our table :) The only downside of having a private room was it was difficult to call the attention of servers. Nonetheless, the food was generally delicious especially the Spicy Toro Maki :)

An authentic Japanese restaurant tucked away in the bar district in Ermita, Manila. It serves high quality food and prepared by real Japanese chefs. Whenever I have visitors from out of town, I always bring them here because I know they wont be disappointed.
Dishes are always served hot and they have the friendliest staffs. The staffs are well-trained and very knowledgeable on the products, but not the taste since they are not allowed to taste the food. They also have the freshest sushi and sashimi. I always order them. I also like the Takoyaki (octopus balls) and ramen. They also serve some Korean dishes as well.
Try:
Syouyu ramen- Quality noodles + tender, tasty meat, and
Spicy Toro Maki- generous fatty tuna!!
However, service was quite slow on both Malate and Ermita branches.
We craved Japanese after watching a Japanese-themed show at the CCP, so we found ourselves at Nihonbashitei's Malate branch, which is right across the old Hyatt Manila, now called the New World Manila Bay hotel.
We ordered a tempura soba, a rice bowl with salmon steeped in green tea, and spicy tuna maki, and several sticks of Japanese yakitori.
I'd wanted to try the green tea and salmon rice combo for a long time; the waitress tried to discourage me, thinking I wouldn't like it, but I did. The salmon was pan fried till crispy on the edges but not overcooked; the green tea had a tinge of interesting acidity, but sadly I don't know from what. Comforting dish.
The spicy tuna was made in generous portions, as was the tempura soba, which is good here as anywhere.
Always fun ordering Japanese barbecue. Our yummy selection included bacon-wrapped enoki mushroom, the quail egg, the chicken and leeks.
Craving sated. Now looking for the next time - er, excuse - to indulge on a similar selection.
Japanese food at its finest! Nihonbashi Tei is located in the busy street of Pedro Gil. My favorite is the Spicy Toro Sashimi. Very easy on wallet but the crews are slow though.
Loved the soba ramen, good hefty servings overall. The salmon sashimi we ordered was fatty and sliced bigger than the usual sashimi you get from other restaurants. Staff punched a wrong order good thing we checked. Service can improve.
The best authentic and super sulit chirashidon for less than Php500. Also their Nigiri sushi's worth trying. The place is packed especially during dinner so expect that service is slow.
My original review here from 4 months ago was actually meant for the Malate Nihonbashi Tei branch - so I just corrected this and moved it to the proper page. (Haha).
After eating in their Ermita establishment last week, I can now officially say that I have been at every branch of this restaurant. I was looking forward to eating there mostly to compare with the Makati branches, since I found the Malate one to be a bit of a disappointment.
Located across the New World Hotel on Pedro Gil street, I have to admit that this area looks rather sketchy in the evening. The establishment itself looked like it was the biggest of all the branches though - brightly lit with high ceilings, multiple tables separated by traditional wooden dividers, and private rooms - I think it has the best layout. It was also quite busy, with about half of the diners being Japanese.
The staff were quick to get the three of us a table and let us know what their best sellers were. Of course, I ordered a plate of their Spicy Toro Maki - for comparison purposes. We also got California Maki, Chirashi Zushi, Beef Teppanyaki, Gyoza and Miso Soup.
Breakdown of the dishes:
California Maki and Spicy Toro
These arrived first and they tasted pretty much like the usual, but for some reason, I have always found the Spicy Toro in Makati to be much tastier. Possibly because they use more spicy mayo in their mix.
Chirashi Zushi with Miso Soup
This looked rather disappointing. Despite the somewhat generous serving of melt-in-your-mouth Uni, everything else was extremely sub par from the slice thickness to the not so fresh flavor. The rice also had way too much vinegar powder, which turned me off after digging halfway through. I would not recommend this dish at all.
Regarding the Miso Soup, I was surprised at how tiny the serving size was because their bowls are much bigger in the Arnaiz branch. It was still good though.
Beef Teppanyaki
It arrived in a sizzling plate. The beef was a bit more stringy and fatty than you expect and was piled on top of an array of vegatables. The flavor was there though and it was very tasty - especially when hot.
Gyoza
It was my first time to try Nihon Gyoza and I was most surprised by this dish because for the price, the serving size was HUGE. Eight pieces of pure deliciousness! It was obvious they did not scrimp on the filling, which was tasty as much as it was generous. I definitely recommend this dish.
Our total bill added up to around P1,400 or so for three people, which I consider a good price for a Japanese restaurant of fair quality.
Over-all, I am giving my exprience here a 4.0 but still find the Makati branches to be on a much higher level when it comes to the actual food. The service in this Ermita branch was somewhat bettter though. I do see myself coming back for some more Spicy Toro and Salmon though. I would recommend this branch over the Malate one in the future.
Authentic Japanese food. The ambience is plain & simple but the price is a bit high. Though they have a big serving, especially the ramen which makes it good for sharing.
