Hizon’s is like the Aristocrat of pastries. This restaurant only caters a small amount of Market which are the old Manileños. I must say that this is a hidden gem in Ermita for their Ensaymada and legendary Mocha Cake.
1st time to try this establishment to taste their pies. Ordered 1 of each Lemon and Apple pie to try. Their pies is quiet good but their apple pie needs some improvement. I tasted much better apple pie from others. Will try other cuisines the next time I visit.
Their caramel cake is one of my favorites! It is not too sweet as you would expect for a caramel cake which is I love about it the most! Best for gatherings and ours is not complete without this very sumptuos cake, so soft and the caramel melts smoothly in your mouth! yum yum!
A friend of mine has always been raving about the mocha cake from hizon's saying it's the best one that he ever had. I was surprised to see a stall in mall of asia today while strolling so didn't think twice and bought a slice. It was actually good. The cake wasn't sweet and is very compact unlike the other commercial mocha cakes like goldilocks and red ribbon of which it's airy and spongy. Another difference is there's a custard or dulce de leche type of filling in the middle which added a twist in their mocha cake. A slice cost 120pesos. I intend to try their ensaymada the next time as it's quite famous in the foodie community as well.
My favorite mocha cake can be found here!!! I love that it’s not too sweet but always so soft and moist. The steep price sometimes can be a deterrent but I keep coming back for their mocha cake. One thing I noticed is that some of their bakery personnel can sometimes be a little masungit.
Been eating here with my parents and siblings since I was 8 years old. Now my children are eating here. The food is great !! The atmosphere has a Sunday family lunch vibe to it. I guess Hizon's has been part of our tradition
Lengua is GREAT in taste as usual but have to say super KONTI ng serving nila this time (see pics). Probably coz they just accomodated chief pnp et al and all the huge servings to them 😂😂😂
This is one of the Classic! I grew up enjoying their cakes. My mom would travel long distance just to buy their cakes during my birthdays, that's why I would often request this during our meetings at work. I also like their Quezo de Bola Ensaymada. I would often give it as a gift to some Doctors and Workmates.
Well intentionally drove from q.c to here for their cakes. My elder kid will celebrate his bday tom so decide to buy the cake today and have it tonight in advance. Well we love their cakes specially my wife. When their is an occassion or craving for it she looks for hizons cake. Well price is pricey but you get what you are paying for.
The food here is excellent! i have tried their callos, embutido spaghetti, lengua and you always keep coming back for more.
My family's birthday wont be complete without their mocha cake. We even send it to the US. I have met the owner and she is very nice and accommodating.
back in mid 90's we often eat here and see Dolphy and I completely understand why they have the Dolphy special. we have tried this and its very delectably mouth watering. i dont have pictures to share so you better trust what i say and try it out.
Also take home their ensaymada and cake rolls which are the best snacks around. I also would like to mention the aroma of baking pastry wafting in their restaurant.
Hizon's will always be our favorite place serving all time favorite meals. It's been here for a long time. Been eating here when I was still so little and always go to Dolphy's table to chitchat. Dolphy has always been a pleasant man. Idol!
My personal favorite is the porkchop. It's the best. Served with apple sauce. So tender, juicy and grilled perfectly!
Lengua - yummy! Rich! a must have!
Chow mein - my mom's favorite and orders this every visit.
Cheeseburger is yummy!
They have omelette which my dad orders every Sunday. It is good.
On Thursdays they have turkey. Turkey plate has slices of turkey, cranberry and sweet camote. Also comes with a bowl of soup. Sarap!
They still give complimentary bread slices (1serving)
Hizons is known for their pastries. Their Ensaymadas are to die for. It is expensive but good. It's the typical brioche bread.
They serve good coffee.
FYI:
Generally their items are in the high price range.
One of favourite dessert house in Malate since my childhood. My family always enjoy their ice cream and cakes. Perfect place to chill after heavy meal or meryenda meeting.
Always a favorite family restaurant.
We've been dining here since we were young and I'm glad to say that it hasn't changed a bit when it comes to their food items(every factor) as well as the interior.
I just love the cozy and very accommodating design of this wonderful restaurant.
If you guys must know, what's best to try here is their Lengua, Ensaymada, Mocha Cake, Brazo de Mercedes and their Tsokolate beverage. It's to die for! Everything here, is actually to die for!
No doubt one of the best bakeries in town. They have their own signature cake that no one can imitate and very consistent with all of their cakes. Price a bit pricey in my opinion.
still the gold standard of standard chiffon cakes IMHO. new cake suppliers would pop up but eventually hizon's will prevail. simple cake, but consistently good!
