The food is delicious, and the price is very much worth it... If you can last for 40 minutes before one of your orders is served. Painfully slow, and the waitresses keep on forgetting orders and placing wrong orders on our table. Worst, after an hour and a half of waiting, they told us that they are out of flour and won't be able to serve our tempura. Imagine waiting for an hour and a half for nothing.
Bad service destroys good food.
Went here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. No regrets of choosing this resto as the price is affordable and food is really great! Not really a fan of Japanese food, but this resto made me one. Highly recommended!
Out of all the buffets in the 500 price point, this is certainly the best. I commend the two hour time limit which starts once your first order arrives. This ensures everyone on the wait list that they will have their turn. Plus points for the very effective & efficient staff for keeping everyone at bay.
I do suggest ordering in bulk for your first order so that you can adjust your food, what you will like vs what you won't, and time accordingly while enjoying your dining experience.
This is a go-to place for/if:
-People who are craving for big, delicious rice bowls.
-You're craving for Japanese cuisine that is better than Japanese fast food for a little higher price.
-There is a mall-wide sale and you want a quiet, affordable dinner. You can splurge on their wide food choices as well.
They boast their beef yakiniku. It's tender but honestly bland.
Their sushi is good, but could be better.
Service is good.
I recommend this place!
My meal wasn't really that memorable. That is not to say it wasn't good. I know that I finished both the soup and the dimsum. It's just that its nothing distinct. Of course it was just a minimal meal and I cant rate their other main courses.
What I do remember was their the only one who would allow me to dine in when all other restos refused at 30 minutes before mall closing time. And that a nice lady staff waited on me kindly with all smiles.
Well, that actually males it memorable doesn't it?
When we were in Mega Mall, I was craving for some sushi and yakiniku while my friend wanted to eat ramen. Luckily, we saw Rosanjin's menu and its promo: UNLIMITED RAMEN/YAKINIKU/SUSHI ROLL/TEMPURA! So we decided to eat here. But we waited for 20 minutes before one of the staff approached us. As they were still cleaning the tables (though they didn't prioritize cleaning the tables coz they were attending to the customers' orders). We almost lost our patience but still we waited because we really wanted to try their food.
I must say, the food is worth the wait. The ramen has three flavors. We ordered tonkotsu ramen. The serving is large. It tastes good (but not as great as those offered by other japanese restaurants). Instead of tamago, the ramen is topped with boiled egg.
For the yakiniku, you can choose if you want beef, pork, or chicken. We had 3 servings of pork and beef. Oh I love their meat! It's full of flavor!
We also ordered a serving of tempura. Tasty!!!!
For the sushi roll, there are a lot of flavors to choose from! We ordered Katsu roll which is really great! Very yummy!
We also had Kani Salad partnered with Yakiniku.
Unlimited ice cream is also included in Rosanjin's promo! Vanilla and Green Tea are the flavors. Though we weren't able to get a serving because we're already full.
This is a must-try! This is the only Unlimited Promo that I enjoyed!

We have tried Rosanjin's All you can eat for Php 499. And all I can say is that it is worth the money.
Php 499 includes:
1. Unli Ramen (Pork, Tonkotsu and Seafood)
2. Unli Sushi (all types of sushi)
3. Unli tempura (shrimp and kani tempura)
4. Unli yakitori (chicken and beef)
5. Ice cream (Vanilla and Green Tea)
6. Unli miso soup
Service time was fast. We got our orders within 5 minutes. And they have very attentive crew who attends to all your needs. Overall our experience was great and would recommend it to family and friends. Will definitely go back to try other items in their menu.
Goodbye ala carte meals, hello SUSHI/RAMEN/TEMPURA/YAKINIKU ALL YOU WANT!!! Rosanjin is now an eat all you can restaurant which gives you the BEST DEAL of more than 50 japanese dishes you can choose from, for only 499. I visited the place with my sister and my friend, and we tried the SALMON NIGIRI SUSHI, SEA URCHIN GUNKAN SUSHI, SHRIMP TEMPURA, PORK BELLY & 2 servings of U.S BEEF YAKINIKU, CALIFORNIA ROLL, SCALLOP MANGO ROLL, CHICKEN TERIYAKI ROLL, and TONKOTSU & SEAFOOD RAMEN. Aside from their great food, you would also want to come back for their excellent service because the staffs are very friendly and accomodating. The only thing I find odd is the taste of the salmon nigiri sushi and size of the sea urchin gunkan sushi but nonetheless, it was a wonderful fourth experience from Rosanjin.
The us marbled beef taste awesome as well as the ramen. Best ramen ever! Recommended to taste their tonkotsu ramen and kani salad. The alcohol gel grill cooker is also amazing. Will definitely go back. đđđ
The food is great and worth the price. A japanese restaurant for unli order with a price of Php499 is not bad at all. Size of tempura is big and really delicious. Ramen tastes good too,but the soup is little. Rolls are okay too.
Just a reminder-Literally no left order policy. Ramen bowl should be empty,if not they will charge you additional Php200 for not literally finishing the noodles and other food on it.
Hoorah for this restaurant! Even with just the three of us (mom and bro),, we were able to finish our full table orders! Servings were big yet you just can't stop as their cooking were really tasty.Â
Kudos for the Australian Ribeye Steak! TENDER JUICY MEAT with different sauces to dip in... pamper that taste buds of yours. Will definitely visit again to try thei kaminabe next! Another would be their Scallop Butteryaki. Anticipate that nice plumpy juiciness from these jumbo scallops as being cooked on you table! Of course loved my assorted sushi plate and our serving of tempura for the usuals plus my brother's gyudon and mom's salmon teriyaki which could have had another rice serving.
A straightforward Japanese resto. I always order their Chirashi because it has uni, my favorite amongst all sashimis. Their bento box is also ok. Their servers are attentive and we've never had any unpleasant experiences here so far.
A trip to Rosanjin wouldn't be complete without ordering their specialty - Tobanyaki. It's Yakiniku cooked to your liking, on your table! They use a special grilling plate to keep the good-quality-meat-straight-from-Japan juicy. If you're ordering this, make sure to try their melts-in-your-mouth Japanese Wagyu, and my personal favorite, Seafood Platter - a combination Norwegian Salmon, Japanese Scallop and Shrimp. If you're the type to eat meat with rice, make sure to order their Seafood Chahan. Probably the best chahan I've ever had! Good for 2-3 persons, it comes with a big bowl of Miso soup, and loads and loads of seafood! It's a meal in itself! đđŒ
Japanese food has a special place in my heart. With all the recent ramen joints and Japanese restaurants popping up, I jumped at the chance to sample the food that helped shape some part of who I am; I found Rosanjin in SM Megamall a good place to rekindle the palate for that classic Japanese taste.
The big draw of Rosanjin is that it provides diners the opportunity to cook their food. In our case, we were provide slices of Australian Striploin, Wagyu, US Angus Short Ribs, and a Seafood Platter filled with salmon, prawns, scallops, and tofu in a broth, among other things.
The dishes are cooked on a portable burner heated by a combustible gel. Think of an incense oil burner but bigger. That should give an idea of what is used. This has the advantage of reducing smoke and other unpleasant odors that may bother other diners and themselves, especially if they have other plans.
The dishes themselves came out very well. The meat comes with a choice of three dips, but I don't need them. It is good enough to be taken on its own. Just cook it to a good medium rare and it comes out tender and juicy enough to be savored on its own.
The seafood needs a little more care since it comes in a broth, but I personally love the salmon with its hint of lemon. As always, anything with a hint of lemon is a plus on my end. Just a splash of the sour to remind that not all things in life are sweet.
But I digress.
Aside from grilling meat or stewing seafood, diners can indulge in classic Japanese dishes like crunchy shrimp tempura and sushi or maki. A unique take on sushi is the cake-like layered sushi, also known as oshi-zushi. We sampled two types: a tuna-flavored one called Hana and a salmon-flavored one called Taiyo. Each long plate comes with five pieces of oshi-zushi, and each one takes a couple of bites to consume. It is a filling meal on its own.
But if one wishes to indulge in more rice, they must look no further than the Beef or Seafood Chahan. The veritable mountain or rice comes bursting with spices, seasonings, and vegetables. Depending on the choice, it also comes with ground meat or chopped squid and fish. The seafood version is a must-try as it does not have a fishy, salty taste. Everything blends into a a savory, flavorful delight that can fill the stomachs of many a diner.
Japanese food has always been a cuisine most favored globally. Through the years, as the ever-changing world of culinary arts flourished, we witnessed the Japanese cuisine grow with it, but still maintaining its reputation as a source of quality seafood and meat. . Rosanjin, brought by the same group that created Sandaya Yakiniku, is a Japanese restaurant offering authentic Japanese experience by using quality ingredients imported from Japan. Last Friday, my fellow foodies and I have been given the opportunity to explore the best Rosanjin has to offer through a Zomato FMU.
Rosanjin, is a no muss and fuss restaurant that serves authentic high grade Wagyu steak, imported from Japan, along with other authentic Japanese cuisine. It is located at the third floor of Mega Fashion Hall in SM Megamall and ready to satisfy your Japanese food cravings.

Food Recommendations:
Japanese Wagyu (Reg PhP 900.00, Big 1600.00) â 5/5
Australian Striploin â 5/5
US Angus Beef â 5/5
Tender and thinly cut steaks! I love how Iâm the one to cook my steak, because it gives me control on the doneness. However, if cooking seems like a daunting task, you can ask their servers to assist you.
Seafood Platter (PhP 1000.00) â 4/5
Perfection! It is what you would expect in a plate that has Norwegian Salmon, Japanese Scallops, and Shrimps. Careful not to overcook your shrimps if you donât want them to end up rubbery.
Shrimp Tempura (Reg PhP 350.00, Big PhP 600.00) â 4/5
Tempara is one of my basis for a good Japanese restaurant, and Rosajinâs didnât disappoint. It was perfectly cooked: The batter thickness was just right, wasnât salty, shrimp was not overcooked and was deliciously crunchy!
Seafood Chahan w/ Miso Soup (PhP 250.00) â 4/5
Pork Chahan w/ Miso Soup (PhP 200.00) â 3.5/5
Their Chahan or Fried Rice are full of flavors and was not oily.
Oshi Sushi
Taiyo (PhP 300.00) â 3/5
Hana (PhP 300.00) â 3/5
Oshi Sushi (or Oshizushi) originates from Osaka. They are block-shaped sushi that made by pressing the layered ingredients in a wooden mold called Oshibako. Taiyo contains salmon, egg, avocado, cucumber, and kanistick. While Hana has tuna, lettuce, and cheese. However, I like their Taiyo better. Probably because I prefer salmon over tuna.
Harmony is an essence in Japanese cuisine, it's not about stand out flavors but the right balance between the elements of the dish to create a great dining experience. In Megamallâs Fashion Hall standing out amidst some of the most popular restaurant concepts in the City is also quite the balancing act. This leads us to Rosanjin a restaurant serving premium Japanese Fare, from its inconspicuous signage, it doesnât look particularly striking or flashy from the outset compared to the other restaurants nearby. Their interiors looks particularly familiar like other family friendly Japanese restaurants with a strong warm and cozy atmosphere. However, a restaurant is not just about interiors, the food is where its really at and for lunch we weâre treated to an extravagant feast of some of the best Japanese food in Manila.
Unlike other japanese restaurants, Rosanjin sets itself apart by allowing diners to cook their dishes on the tables in a Tobanyaki, a traditional ceramic cooking plate which can cook delicate meat and seafood evenly without the hashly
ââWagyu (BIG): For Php 1600 you can get a generous plate of sliced A4 wagyu, just a few notches below the prime, so this is a good as it gets in the Philippines. I often feel anxious whenever iâm tasked to cooked such delicate premium meats because it could go wrong real quick but thanks to their toban yaki plate, the meat was cooked with the care that it deserved. As expected, the beef was exceptionally tender thanks to the rich marbling of the meat and even without marination or extra seasoning the rich beefy flavor still came through. What really sets it apart from other varieties of beef is that unique aftertaste which was like a strong concentrated beef flavor.
Take it to another level by dipping it in the trio of sauces offered with each meat plate, I recommend their hot sauce which was quite deep and flavorful and had just the right amount of heat.
âLetâs move on their Australian Striploin, which goest for 500php per serving.. Unlike the Wagyu which was rich and delicate, this had a stronger spiced marinade quite like those the marinated beef in KBBQ restaurants yet the meat was thicker, juicier, and had its unique Barbecue flavor. If you are a craving for good, juicy beef yet you don't want to hurt your pocket to then this is perfect for you
âThe last beef dish was the US Angus Short Ribs for 800php a serving, quite light compared to the strip loin but not as delicate as the wagyu this dish still packed a punch. Perfect if cooked medium near well done, this beef had a nice strong meaty flavor with a musky aftertaste. I liked this dish because it was also midway between the premium wagyu and the affordable striploin yet you could really taste the unique premium taste of good imported beef.
Although each beef dishes was cooked the same way, they all brought something different to the table and it was quite delightful and fascinating to compare and contrast some of the best beef from all over the world.
ââSeafood Platter: For 1000php you get a platter containing huge stuffed jumbo shrimps, whole scallops and some slices of salmon, its steamed it its own juices in quite a huge toban yaki plate,. I was able to try the scallop and the shrimp and while i was eating i couldnât even find the words to describe how great this dish was but i'll give it a try. First of is the scallops which were not trimmed unlike the traditional preparation which only serves the medallion of white meat in the middle. This payed off and allowed me to appreciate the different textures of the scallop meat, the outer layer was soft and delicate and had a strong âoceanâ flavor while the meat in the middle was cooked perfectly allowing it to retain it meaty texture without being chewy. This was like magic and tears were about to form in my eyes with every bite of their scallop. The shrimp was flavorful as well, you would expect jumbo shrimp to be quite bland but this shrimp was soft, buttery, and had just the right amount of seasoning.
âShrimp Tempura; For Php 600 you can get a huge platter of jumbo prawn tempura deep fried to perfection. Their tempura was a pleasure to eat because it the shrimp was absolutely tender and was seasoned just right to elevate the sweet fishy taste of the shrimp. Its so good that you don't even have to dip it in sauce for additional flavor and goes perfect with their Chahan or Fried Rice.
ââChahan (Seafood Fried Rice). Their seafood fried rice was another smash hit among me and my fellow diners. The rice was mixed with a variety of other components notably salmon flakes, shrimp,. Each grain of rice was coated with flavor that i could only describe as truly u m a m i, not one element in the dish stood out yet they all came together in one rich yet simple dish. For 250Php this is more than enough for 3 people and is perfect eaten with their tempura or with their beef or also good enough to be eaten alone. This dish enough reason for me to visit this restaurant again. Simply amazing!
âOshi Sushi (Sushi Cake):I also had a bite of their Sushi Cake, which i heard was the brainchild of their Head Chef. No, its not dessert but sort of like Sushi transformed into a sandwich using the same ingredients. Although i liked this dish because it tasted fresh, it was quite messy to eat because it fell apart quickly.
Beverages
ââStrawberry Shake: Strawberry has always been my go-to choice when i comes to shakes and smoothies and Rosanjinâs Strawberry Shake sure didn't disappoint. Their strawberry shake tasted like fresh, ripe berries added with just the right amount of sweetness. The light but refreshing taste of this drink paired perfectly with the savory dishes that we had.
Overall, my lunch at Rosanjin was probably one of the best meals iâve had this year. I loved the simple, approach to Japanese food yet through the preparation and the ingredients they were able to elevate these dishes to a level that would be difficult for other restaurants to compare. My only recommendation is maybe they could improve their interiors and add more striking visual elements in order to attract the style savvy people in Mega Fashion Hall. Nonetheless, the service was top notch and the food was spectacular!

If you're in the mood for authentic Japanese, you're headed the right way. Rosanjin is on the third floor of Mega Fashion Hall, tucked in the middle of more known restaurants, but definitely worth a visit or two.
We had the opportunity to try their Japanese A4-grade Wagyu, Australian Striploin, Angus Short Ribs, Seafood Platter, Seafood and Pork Chahan, Tempura, and their unique sushi.
The wagyu was divine and more than your money's worth. Guaranteed authentic by the Japanese owner, shipped all the way from his homeland, this is a must try.
Their Australian Striploin and Angus Short Ribs are more affordable alternatives to satisfy your meat craving. With these, you will get the same meaty goodness for a much lower price.
Another affordable choice is their Seafood or Pork Chahan. This works perfectly with grilled meat and comes with a big bowl of miso soup.
If you're not a big fan of red meat, there's seafood for you. Their Seafood Platter and Tempura are amazing and sulit.
A Japanese restaurant isn't complete without sushi. Make sure to order a plate of Taiyo or Hana (or both) to experience Rosanjin's unique take on it.
They have a varied selection of drinks. I had green mango shake. It tasted like summer and I loved it. Will come back soon. â€ïž
At the Fashion Hall of SM Megamall lies this traditional Japanese resto that serves great grilled meats. One thing to note is that they use ceramic plates for roasting as they continue to emit heat after a long time and it also produces a significant heat effect that is good for roasting.
As for the meats, the Wagyu beef is a must try. All of their beef are imported so its expected to be of good quality. And for 1,600 pesos for a big platter, it's a good price to pay. The AU Striploin is a good choice as well for 500 pesos.
Their Seafood Chahan is a good choice to go with the grilled meats. It comes with a big bowl of miso soup and it's good for 2 pax at 250 pesos. You may want to go for Pork Chahan if you prefer.
Overall, the dining experience is great. The ambiance with its nice interiors is a nice touch to the place. It is something to consider if you are craving for grilled meats, which I'm pretty sure to come back for it.

Rosanjin is a restaurant that serves traditional Japanese comfort food. They're are known for their Tobanyaki, which is a Japanese art of cooking wherein the food is cooked on a ceramic plate. Another nice thing to know about Rosanjin is that they get their meat from Japan, providing their customers with the best quality available.
They are located at the 3rd level of SM Mega Fashion Hall and I'm surprised that they still manage to gain a lot of customers, despite the multiple restaurants around it. Ambiance was simple but classy. Love the floral wallpaper, and the upside down umbrella's hanging from the ceiling, giving the restaurant a nice vibrant color.
The restaurant didn't only have a wonderful ambiance, but it also had a wonderful menu. The menu was traditional and it was filled with the most interesting choices.
After our wonderful lunch in Rosanjin, I decided to make a list of my highly recommended dishes âșïž :
Wagyu (BIG)-1600 php
This Japanese A4 grade Wagyu short ribs tasted heavenly. The marbling on the beef was wonderful to look at, and the Wagyu melts like butter as soon as it touches your tongue. Just remember to rest the meat first to hold in those juices from the meat, making each bite juicier and tastier. Also, don't forget to dip it at their complimentary trio sauce at the side!
(Seafood Platter)- 1000 php
This platter of Norwegian Salmon, Japanese Scallops and Shrimp is a seafood lover's dream. You can tell that the seafood used, were very fresh. Taste was delicious, and the butter helped in giving extra flavor and color. My favorite part were definitely the fresh Japanese Scallops. They were soft and tender. I never tasted anything like it before! Just remember to not overcook it, to prevent it from being rubbery.
(Seafood Chahan)-250 ph
Rosanjin's take on Chahan is the best I've had so far. The Japanese rice was coated consistently in the soy sauce, it was seasoned nicely, it had a great texture and most importantly, it was not very oily. Their chahan is good for 3 persons and you also get a free bowl of Miso soup! 250 php is very reasonable.
If you're not a fan of seafood, they also offer a pork variation of their Chahan for only 200 php! Also another dish that I would like to recommend.
(Shrimp Tempura BIG)-600 php
The shrimp tempura was surprisingly big
And 600 php is reasonable for what you get. The batter was really crunchy and satisfying in every bite. Never had tempura this good before. Definitely ordering this again on my next visit!
(Green Mango Shake)-120 php
The shake was really good. It was tangy and sweet, just how I like it. The perfect refreshment after a wonderful Japanese meal.
Rosanjin is now on my "Where to get authentic Japanese food with reasonable prices" list. Hope to visit again soon for their good quality and delicious delicious food.
Giving this a 5 just because I was impressed that they serve only prime and choice beef in their restaurant at a very good price. They served us their big plate Australian Striploin (P500) and big plate of Wagyu (P1600). It's a very good price if you ask me as I got to enjoy every delicious marbling wagyu. I'm definitely coming back here if I'm craving for good grilled meat. They don't serve local beef so expect nothing but tender, melt-in-your-mouth goodness! Another favorite here and more bang for your buck is the Seafood Chahan. Serving is good for two but I'm a big guy so I can eat this by myself. For only P250, the seafood chahan comes with a big bowl of Miso Soup.
My top picks are
1. Seafood chahan (fried rice)
2. Pork Chahan (fried rice)
3. Wagyu Beef
4. Australian Striploin
5. US Angus Beef
They have a unique grill called toban yaki which is a ceramic plate that is heated by an interesting looking candle. Just becareful not to overcook the meat or else it will have a rubbery texture and will might damage the flavor and dry it. The seafood chahan is like the sea full of flavor and seafood. For 250 with a free miso soup it is sulit. Other dishes are good as well
It's my first time to try this restaurant as my mom was looking for sushi and maki. This is located at the 3rd floor of the Megafashion hall in Ortigas. I ordered the tonkatsu miso ramen (PhP 280 for solo and PhP 350 with 5pcs Gyoza), while my mom ordered tuna sashimi (PhP 250) and the sushi bento (PhP 330) which consists of 2 chicken karaage, 2 pcs tempura, miso soup, 4 california maki, 1 tamago, 1 tuna sashimi, 1 salmon sashimi, 1 fruit set. They offer big servings so you'll definitely be full afterwards or you can ask for an extra bowl or plate to share. The dim interior also added to the Japanese restau overall look. Are the service good? Yes, although I think they should greet their visitors goodbye. Value for money, the price is just right for the serving and taste of the food. Will I be back? Definitely yes, cause they have so many dishes to offer. đđđ» #buhaybaboy
My husband loves their Seafood Ramen which is the reason why we always go back. The place is nice , price is okay, and the service is so-so. The staff could smile a little more though :)

Food
đŁ We ordered a big assorted sushi platter. I loved their Kani sushi. It was really tasty and juicy. đ they served them fresh also.
đČ their Ramen: I ordered Seafood Ramen and it was okay. It had a generous serving of seafood however the noodles were bland unlike other Ramen shops. We also ordered them in sets and the gyoza that comes with the order are really tasty. It got the right amount of meat and herbs.
đ€ tempura: tasty and it was okay.
đ· Angus rib steak: the meat was tender, I recommend adding salt and pepper for those who are into spices. The tofu that comes with the order was okay.
Over all, we spent 4200 for 7 people. Not bad for a high level of fullness. đ
Ambience
đœ the Ambience was okay. The place was a little small. It felt crowded.
Service
đ the staff were nice and accommodating. Although there were delays in some of our orders, they were honest for their mistake.
If you want traditional Japanese food within Ortigas center, why not try Rosanjin at The 3rd floor of SM Megamall's Fashion Hall. Rosanjin is a pseudonym for a noted artist and epicure which (I think) was the namesake of the restaurant. We tried the Jumbo Scallop Butteryaki, Wagyu Tenderloin Steak, Wagyu cubes and Sukiyaki. The Wagyu beef was wonderfully tender and was cooked on a Toban. The Sukiyaki was cooked on Kaminabe paper (which was a really thick paper that held the Sukiyaki soup firmly) without spilling.
A cool fine dining Japanese restaurant that is cozy, affordably priced and with good service.
Love their Ramen and Gyoza...
Highly recommended...
Kampai!!!
We had our lunch here last week and it was their anniversary week so they're offering their tonkatsu ramen for P222 and california maki for P22 only but sad to say, we already placed our orders when they offered that to us.
Anyways, I was craving for Japanese food that time and I was thinking twice if we're gonna eat here since there were no people inside, only one to two, compared to other restaurants (we usually don't eat at restaurants with few or no people at all since for us, it's a sign that the food isn't good).
Since it was lunch time (late lunch), they are offering their bento boxes so we ordered the Rosanjin bento box A, sushi bento, and tobanyaki (australian rib steak). The miso soup was good and the tempura was flavorful. I loved the assorted sushi and the mackarel (I don't know why they served me mackarel instead of chicken karaage, but anyway it was good). The ribsteak was cooked in front of you so you'll see how this reddish meat turned into brownish. The meat was tender but out of its 3 sauces, I only liked one of its sauce.
Their staff were friendly and accommodating. They were refilling our glasses every now and then.
Awesome staff and great food! I love your Spicy Ramen with Gyosa and the serving size. You made my day guys! Two thumbs up! Til the next order! đđđ
It satisfies my husband craving for japanese food ......we are not that maselan about taste but their value meal meet our expectation he.. already talking about this and planning to visit the place again in his next vacation.
One of my favorite ramen place. Food is great especially the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. The place is fine but space inside is quite narrow. Will go back to this place in the future because their food is good.
Sunday Bonding with friends will never be the same again without FOODS. đ Dining at this resto feels like we're transported from a busy mall to a japanese dining experience. Maybe because we're seated at the far end corner of the resto.
Anyway, we ordered what we like to eat: ramen, sushi, gyudon and maki.
I ordered Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (Ala Carte - PHP280) and the Aburi Salmon Sushi (8pcs - PHP300). The Ramen was ok. Not too salty and spicy. The broth is good not too good for me. The raddish and bean sprouts overpowered the taste of the tonkotsu broth since I can taste its bitterness. I wish the meat they included was not ground meat but slices of pork. I only finished half of it. Aburi Salmon was my favorite. đ Taste is very mild. Everything in it complements my taste buds.
They've given us a stamp card which you can get PHP500 worth of GC after all ten stamps had been completed. You'll get 1 stamp for every PHP500 payment.
Hope to get back again and complete the stamps for the PHP500 GC.
Our total bill is 2952.82 including the service charge of 241.82 with 9 orders of meal for 7pax.
Super yummy and very generous servings! Cheap para sa authentic and really tasty ramen and udon.
The sushi platter was heavenly, big bites and fresh fish. They serve house tea (wc i'm guessing is rice tea)
The Udon was yummy and sweet and mabilis makabusog.
The Shoyu Ramen was great, the broth was flavorful you can taste the sweetness and the soy. The noodles were nicely cooked, and goes well with the broth and toppings.
Overall, the experience was great, the food was awesome, and the staff were very welcoming. Highly recommended. đđ
I came here with a balikbayan cousin because we are looking for some real Asian food adventure. Aside from the usual fried or fast food, we are actually craving for heavy but healthier meals. My cousin chose this place and weâve tried its favorites. Other food from the menu were not available at that time though, but weâve chosen what we thought looked delicious.
Among our orders, Alaskan Roll became a must-have choice, while Chicken and Buri Misoyaki were also worth the try! Other than those, thereâs nothing really special with their Tonkatsu and Gyoza. For the beverage, I suggest you try their Green Tea Shake!

We chose this place because it had the anniversary promo of piso for a california maki (with every order of their food) haha
Anyway, I had the sukiyaki, which for me was delicious hehe it was served with a LOT of meat, more than the noodles or even the vegetables (which was very few actually). I like the soup part but it's not that much (or probably disappeared from evaporation). Btw, picture of the sukiyaki was already mixed so it looks a bit messy
I was also able to taste the burger steak from my friend... Well, ordinary for me... Or maybe i am not a fan or burger steak in the first place haha
My other friend ordered the pork belly spicy misoyaki, which he also liked. But I cannot comment because I wasn't able to taste it haha
California maki was okay, only 4 pcs compared to the advertised 6 (but anyway, its just piso).
They also had free wifi in the restaurant, but apparently my friend cannot connect.
The staff was rather helpful and friendly. Ambience was well, japanese. Value for money... Well, piso for california maki is good. Others was just okay, maybe a bit expensive as the serving size wasn't too big (and some may not even be really full from the food).
The food is decent. They have bento boxes, sushi, teriyaki, ramen and all your standard japanese fare. Pricing is more than the usual but! The portions are also generous. Restaurant ambience is alright, a little run down to my eye.
This is my second time to eat at Rosanjin and I really like this restaurant. It is affordable and the serving size are for those on their "cheat day diet"
Their tonkotsu ramen is really good and not that salty. My two year old kid even loved it. Their gyoza is perfectly juicy and full of flavors. I wanted to try their other dishes but will have to come back again
Whenever I go to any Japanese restaurant (FYI, Japanese food is one of my top 3 favorites), I always try their california maki and gyoza. As such, I ordered both here. The california maki's rice for me is not sticky enough. This could be improved. I couldn't taste the kani that well and hopefully they would add more tobiko or fish roe. Overall, I would rate the california maki as 3/5. For the gyoza, I liked that the wrapper could hold the meat inside. The meat taste good though I would appreciate if they could add more in one piece. I will rate the gyoza 3.5/5. I also ordered salmon sashimi as it is my top favorite Japanese food. I must say, it taste good though I was hoping for a melts on your mouth sashimi. I should say, I have tasted better sashimi. I will give 3.5/5 for the sashimi. For the service, I could say that they were friendly and attentive. Except for the incident that they almost served me food that I didn't order. So maybe they could improve on that. For the service, I give them 4/5. Overall, my dining experience was pleasant. Will try their bento next time. Oh! And it's my birthday today so I was able to avail their free meal! I choose set A.
Great they allowed to split one order of Seafood Ramen Bowl into two bowls. Glad we decided to split since it was just enough for us. That 1/2 bowl is like 1 order too (well, for me and my partner), it was just the right amount. Had their yummy california roll too and tempura. And their 3 scoops of green tea ice cream for only P100 was definitely a perfect meal-ender!
Ambiance- 5/5
Service is a bit slow but uderstandable since there is a lot of diners at that time- 4/5
Price- 5/5 (food is really worth the price)
Size serving- 5/5 (expect big servings!)
Rosanjin serves Japanese comfort food such as sushi, tempura, udon, ramen, gyoza, etc. To describe their food offerings simply, their options can be categorized either as meat or fish (seafood).
Since we wanted to try a variety of dishes, we decided to go for the bento boxes. I ordered one of Rosanjin's best-selling Bentos--the Sushi Bento Box. It came with assorted sushi (California Maki, Tuna, Salmon, and Tamago), Shrimp Tempura, Chicken Karaage, fresh fruits, salads, and soup. Not really a fan of Miso but their Miso soup was outstanding! It's flavorful enough that I forgot that I was actually sipping on a Miso soup.
The assorted sushi are so fresh and you can really tell that they come straight from the market. In addition, we also tried their Tobanyakis. I've gotten positive feedback about this dish from friends and now I know why, it was really good. The Australian Rib-Eye Tobanyaki is a standout dish both for taste and presentation.
You have to see the picture to understand what I mean. The play on textures in this particular dish was fun too. You had the tender, fatty rib-eye, soft, silken tofu, and some crunch too coming from the okra. This Rib-Eye Tobanyaki was truly simple and magnificent.
For desserts, we sampled the Japanese parfait, Milk Kintoki, and Ice Cream Tempura. Out of the three, my favourite would have to be the Japanese parfait. The green tea ice cream has a lovely colour, delicate flavour, and is perfect with the mochi balls.
The interior is very modern and classy and this would actually be a cute place to go on a date or a nice lunch with friends. My entire dining experience was a real treat in itself, from customer service to meal presentation. I am a fan and I will definitely comeback.
Many thanks to the owner of Rosanjin for hosting us.

Rosanjin has awesome lunch bentos! For only Php330 too!
I had their Bento C with tempura, salmon sashimi, and tuna sashimi. The sashimi was very fresh and the serving size was generous since they were pretty thick pieces. đ
I also enjoyed the their Tobanyaki. The meat was tender and flavorful. Share this with a friend or have it as your main dish. You'll leave absolutely happy.
We got to try their Japanese Parfait, Milk Kintoki, and Ice Cream Tempura. I didn't get a chance to try the Ice Cream Tempura but heard praises about it. I got to try the other 2 and they were delicious. The Japanese Parfait was served with Sesame Ice Cream and Matcha Ice Cream. Their ice creams had pretty rich flavors and not just a hint of the said flavor. The desserts are good for sharing and only ranged from Php150 to Php200.
Rosanjin's interior is very nice and tends to give off an expensive vibe. The food is good and priced at par with the other restaurants around them. The lunch bentos are worth it and will leave you full and satisfied. Leave space for dessert! If the owner is around, say hi! He's a very nice Japanese man. đ

I had another opportunity once again in attending another Zomato foodie meetup that's just nearby my area, whereas I was able to exchange conversations and food with my fellow foodies. We went to Rosanjin in SM Megamall and got to meet its Japanese owner, Mr. Jungjin Park.
Rosanjin is actually known for their bento sets, which are available in five varieties and priced at Php330 each. I'd have to say that the bento sets are all worth it since each set is a complete meal already, with soup, appetizer, entree, and fruits, and it also comes with a drink.
So I had Rosanjin's cha-han bento, which apparently is their best seller here. It has fried chicken karaage, gyoza, and Japanese fried rice. Although the gyoza was nice, I don't find this bento set extraordinary. The chicken was oily and tasted dull, in my opinion.
I think that their tempura, tuna, and salmon sashimi bento is better than the rest of the bento sets. For one, seafood is kind of expensive so this set is somewhat of great value.
Aside from their bento sets, I suggest that you also try out Rosanjin's tobanyaki. With this one, they will serve you raw food, and cook if in front of you using their cooking device called "toban." We were able to try out their Australian rib steak and their chicken cheeseyaki. I'd have to say that the rib steak is a must have, given that the beef was very tender and mouthwatering. As for the chicken cheeseyaki, it tasted plain and ordinary, and it also lacked cheese in it.
What I actually enjoyed the most from my visit here at Rosanjin are their desserts! I actually ordered all the available desserts that they have on their menu. I discovered that the Japanese doesn't have that much variety when it comes to their sweet offerings. Rosanjin offers only three kinds of desserts, but they mostly use similar ingredients in them, such as red beans, matcha, and black sesame ice cream.
These desserts are of the perfect kind of sweetness. If you are to pick one, I suggest that you try out their ice cream tempura. Trust me, you'll dig this one as this is not your typical sweet serving.
Another Japanese restaurant that our family tried last month at their Megamall branch.
We intend to eat at Ooma rice bar but the queue is long, and my youngest daughter is not patient enough to wait.
We ordered for their pork ramen, chicken cheeseyaki tobanyaki, katsudon (my daughter's favorite) and chicken teriyaki. And they have a promo of 10pesos for their California maki.
We enjoyed the food and the place is not so crowded. We will be back.....
Rosanjin is a Japanese Restaurant specializing in Japanese Bento sets, and is from the same owners of Tajimaya and Sandaya. It's named after the famous Japanese Potter Rosanjin Kitaoji.
We had an opportunity to try this yesterday.
Ordered: Seafood Premium Sushi, Mixed Sushi Platter and their Classic Gyoza.
Service was fast! After 5-10mins. our orders started to arrive. I also love that they didn't wait for me to ask for their house tea- It was offered as soon as we sat down.
As for the taste of the food. It was nothing great although I would certainly go back because everything was affordable including their Tobanyaki (Australian Rib Steak) -which I would like to try on my next visit.
we have been wanting to try this japanese restaurant but its always overshadowed by its more popular neighbors. today we decided to have our lunch there. we were seated after 10 mins and food arrived after 5mins since they took our order while waiting for our table. we got 4 tobanyaki dishes paving the way of having a california maki for P1.00. we also got their beef teriyaki roll which is just ok along with the california maki. but the tobanyaki were good, starting from wagyu beef, spicy pork, salmon and mackerel. staff were polite and thoughtful. the only drawback for me is the quantity of food, i don't think it's appropriate for its price.
Tonight, I had a food coma. The quality of food is really good. đ The price is just right for the food quality, not too expensive. I'd recommend this to Japanese cuisine lovers, they should try this at least once.

Dined on a Sunday evening, but there weren't a lot of people. (Yey!) Waitresses we encountered were all friendly. We ordered the seafood platter and a bowl of ramen. Super good! Price is a bit expensive. We paid P1400 including 12% VAT and 10% Service Charge. Not bad for 2 folks looking for a bit if a splurge. Loved the salmon in the platter. :)
Celebrated Mom's birthday at Rosanjin since we're a huge Japanese Cuisine fan. Lol. This was the first restaurant that we fancied while looking around so, we went straight ahead and sat down. Good thing the place wasn't packed.
The waitress suggested their Tonkatsu Ramen Set and tried them anyway. The set comes with Gyoza and the Ramen was good for sharing. Didn't fancy the Ramen that much, I've tasted better. Too much veggies. Good portion of noodles and soup though. The Gyoza was really delicious.
Also had Regular Sushi Platter. 7 kinds of sushi. Nothing great really, just some ordinary sushis but the sashimi and tuna was of good quality.
For the main, we had Australian Rib Steak and Pork Belly Misoyaki. First time to try Tobanyaki which I really enjoyed. It's also very efficient in terms of serving time and food temperature. Both tasted good, pork and beef were very tender and flavorful. The dish's also good for sharing which saved us a couple of bucks.
Everything was pretty good. Loved the experience and the serving time was excellent. Staff were nice and accommodating but not that attentive.
The food was great. Excellent quality. Big serving as well. Price would justify the food that they serve. There's a server available on each side. Quick service. I tried this because, I wanted something new from the Japanese cuisine and it never failed me. I'd love to come back.
Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant introduced their new specialties recently- Tobanyaki and Kaminabe.
Tobanyaki is a Japanese art of cooking wherein food is cooked in an earthenware called "toban"- a pot made from clay. Toban features a unique kind of teppanyaki that distributes heat equally and cooks the dish fast and nicely.
We got the Australian Rib Eye (P380), Chicken Cheeseyaki (P280) and Jumbo Scallop Butteryaki (P450) for their new Tobanyaki dishes.
The ribeye was flavorful and tender, but make sure you don't overcook the beef. It was very well-seasoned served with tofu squares and 3 dipping sauces. The scallops were indeed huge and buttery. Hope they can maintain the sizes and quality of their scallops. Lastly, the chicken cheeseyaki was served with a tomato-based sauce and topped with gooey cheese. It was both flavorful and cheesy, kids will surely love this!
As for the Kaminabe, we got the classic Sukiyaki Kaminabe (P380) and Seafood Kaminabe (P400). The sukiyaki was sweet and savory served with assorted veggies. Personally, I find the serving size small for its price. The seafood version on the other hand has a distinct seafood taste with a mild spiciness to it.
We capped off our meal with their Green Tea Pudding (P150). I'd say skip this as we found the texture a bit hard and gritty to the palate.
Rosanjin launched their new Tobanyaki and Kaminabe dishes last July and I am very happy to be part to be the first to try their dishes. They added new set of Tobanyaki and Kaminabe dishes for the Japanese dishes fans and foodies. (Long post ahead).
**FOOD - Tobanyaki is a modern-style Teppanyaki which dishes are cooked in a ceramic that continuously emits heat after removing from the heat source. They served this dishes with 3 kinds of sauce with different taste (red wine-based, sour cream with wasabi, and steak-based). Here are the new Tobanyaki dishes served at Rosanjin:
If you are a fan of beef dishes, these two dishes are a must-try. It is preferred to eat them as soon as possible after it's cooked so you can enjoy the softness and juiciness of the beef.
Both chicken meat with cheese cubes, this dish are very tasty. Chicken Cheeseyaki is a combination of the chicken, cheese and veggies like asparagus and broccoli. On the other hand, Chicken Misoyaki is a combination of chicken, cheese, sweet bell peppers with miso paste. The flavor of the two dishes were enhanced because of the melted cheese after it is cooked.
If you love fish and sea food these dishes are also worth the try. Buri Teriyaki is cooked in a ceramic with Buri (Japanese Amberjack fish) plus the sauce. Shrimp Cheeseyaki is the same as the Chicken Cheeseyaki but they used shrimp instead with a hint of tartar sauce.
It is a dish with big-sized scallops topped with uni (sea urchin) with a thick slice of butter at the middle. This dish is very delicious and the sea urchin enhances the taste of the dish. Personally, this dish is my favorite Tobanyaki dish and second will be the Chicken Misoyaki.
Kaminabe is a type of cooking with uses Kaminabe paper as the "hot pot" of the dish. Kaminabe paper is a type of Washi (paper) made from the fibers of the gampi tree, mitsumata shrub, paper mulberry, or bamboo. The dish will be cooked with the use of a candle and Kaminabe paper holder.
If you like stew-type dishes, this two is a must-try. Enjoy the vegetables and beef stew with Sukiyaki Kaminabe and vegetables plus chicken meat with Chicken Kaminabe. Be sure to mix them altogether so that the ingredients are equally cooked.
Looking for something sour? Try their Buri Kaminabe with lemon to add sourness to the dish. Also try their Seafood Kaminabe, stewed veggies, tofu and seafood. If you love shrimp with the perfect sour taste, try their Shrimp Kaminabe and enjoy the big shrimps with the tasty miso soup. I literally crave for rice after tasting this dish!
Be sure to try Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant's new offerings, available starting July 22, 2015. If you are looking for a modern-style Japanese Restaurant, Rosanjin should be on your list. Dishes are available in Ala Carte, in big servings and in set. Drop by at SM Megamall and visit their branch, bring your family and special ones and have a sumptuous Japanese dining experience.
I love japanese food, really. And Rosanjin never fails my belly to be as happy. As always. âșïž Their sashimi is really authentic. Superb! I'll come back over and over, for sure.
I love the presentation of their traditional dishes especially the tobanyaki and kaminabe. I am surprised the Japanese paper used for the soup doesn't burn while cooking. The crew will guide you about the dishes especially if you are as clueless like I was about the tobanyaki and kaminabe. Speaking for myself, it may be a little expensive but it is worth it. Dined Tobanyaki style today! Came for (late) lunch and, being new to this restaurant, I studied the menu and apparently, they have a hot pot on which one can do a little cooking. Im not sure if I got my orders wrong as all the dishes Ive tried were just not remarkable. I didnt do my research so I wasnt sure of what to order. I asked my server whats their bestseller and after our short conversation, I felt like I got even more confused. She was stuttering at some point and is not as knowledgeable with their menu. Being the visual person that I am, I then ordered what looked nice on photos. I had their Alaskan Roll and Salmon Burger. I was surprised when my server said that I also get a plate of California Maki for 1php. Great deal so I said yes.
The Alaskan roll came first. I find it just fine as well as the California roll. I pretty much got excited with my little cooking sesh so when my earthenware called "toban" arrived, I wished this one would save the two other dishes. It takes 7 to 10 minutes of cooking but I added 5 more minutes as I want my salmon to be well-done. Upon tasting, my salmon was tasty but dry. Could it be because I cooked it more than how its supposed to be done? It was good but not stellar.
Service was okay but towards the end of my meal, they got even more friendly and accommodating.
Final verdict? Hmmm. Not fair! Ive read quite a few good reviews about Rosanjin and I guess I need to revisit and try out the dishes that these bloggers are raving about! Who's with me?đ
I'm always in search of a Japanese restaurant that offers ramen in their menu and last week my feet brought me to Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant located in SM Fashion Hall. This is not your ordinary Japanese restaurant because they offer something different. They have kaminabe. This is something new for me. Kaminabe is the art of cooking that use Japanese paper as a pot. Interesting, isn't it? I'll return to Rosanjin for this experience!
Japanese food selections in Manila have become so sophisticated, we now have the chance to sample regional specialties and new ways of experiencing their food. Rosanjin brings in large Hokkaido scallops (yay!), buri (sashimi fans know this also as hamachi or yellowtail, a coldwater fish), beef wagyu at reasonable prices, and stews cooked in washi paper.
Rosanjin ups the ante by introducing at-table, interactive cuisine. Their cast-iron mini-cookers can be used for grilling (tobanyaki) or stewing (kaminabe), and the staff will help you set it up and guide you through the cooking.
The kaminabe stewing method in itself is very interesting. It involves placing a special kind of Japanese paper called 'washi' into a rack. This paper is very thick and versatile, and its most popular applications are origami folding and the arts of Japanese woodprinting and calligraphy. When it comes to cooking, washi's special coating doesn't leak out any liquid and keeps temperatures steady.Â
And so we grilled steak latticed together with tofu, some buri, and a chicken "cheeseyaki" dish, all fun to do and eat. I think the tofu leaches out liquid which might compete with the steak's caramelization, but perhaps all that requires is you remove the tofu first, and cook it later.
What I liked even more was the trio of kaminabe stews we tried - beef sukiyaki, seafood in a soy sauce, and shrimp.
The seafood stew had Hokkaido scallop, buri and shrimp, and the one I liked most was the shrimp with miso. The only challenge will have to be peeling the shrimp.
The menu can be daunting, and let other fellow Zomato reviewers point you in the right direction. Perhaps ramen or katsu aren't what you want, but do try the grilling and stewing, which are priced reasonably (below P400).
Rosanjin's restaurant manager is from Japan, and the attempt is there to showcase something new.
We had chewy mochi-like dumplings together with pudding and ice cream, watch out for these as well.
Thanks to Zomato and Rosanjin for hosting me.
With the influx of Japanese restaurants in a country where its favorite pastime is eating, Filipinos crave and rave on dining experiences. In my Japanese food explorations of ramen and katsuretsu, Rosanjin uniquely took me to a new Japanese food journey. Their specialty is Tobanyaki and Kaminabe.
Tobanyaki is a traditional art of cooking in Japan where an earthenware or âtobanâ that is made from clay or aluminum is used. The cooking mechanism of tobanyaki that makes cooking easy, fast, and safe, relies on the following techniques: (1) easy heat transmission (2) high heat quality reservation (3) ultra-red lay effect.
We were served the following dishes that were prepared through tobanyaki. (1) Australian Rib Steak - For a rib steak to cook perfectly at a precise time of 7 minutes on a hot âtobanâ underneath a candle is simply amazing. The combination of steak, tofu, and ladiesâ fingers (or okra) wrapped in bacon is a pot of complete meal. (2) Jumbo Scallop Butteryaki - This is my favorite dish of the first batch. The succulent scallops and the buttery sauce makes for a happy meal. A very happy tummy, indeed. (3) Chicken Chesseyaki - As the cheese melts with the hot sauce that is bathing the chicken, it gives a taste that deliciously lingers on the mouth.
On the other hand, Kaminabe is the art of cooking in a Japanese paper as its pot. It is a cooking style that started 200 years ago in Japan. For paper not to burn is fascinating. Its ingenious method is the applied heat conduction. The Kaminabe way of cooking is healthy because the paper absorbs the oil and food residues.
For our Kaminabe delight, we were served the following delectable dishes. (1) Sukiyaki Regular - I may be less of a fan of sweet soup and sauces, but this dish subtly and sweetly blends with my taste buds well. (2) Shrimp Kaminabe - The miso soup with a tinge of shrimp flavor due to the large shrimps swimming on the pot gives a hearty soup that would be perfect especially on rainy days. (3) Seafood Kaminabe - Among the array of soup for the night, this is my favorite. The slightly spicy soup blends well with the seafood. It is a pot of ocean flavors that warms the heart.
After our Tobanyaki and Kaminabe adventures, a luscious dessert washed our palates.
The restaurant is homey that is nicely complemented with the warm smiles of the staff. Its design captures an overall hint of Japan. With the staffâs graciousness, attention, and willingness to educate the diners on the art of cooking food in a âtobanâ and japanese paper, it transports a diner to a one of a kind experience that brings cultures together through food.

My experience at Rosanjin is not memorable, but also not horrible. The food comes in sets which, I think, makes it more affordable.Â
Their menu sets usually comes with california roll and gyoza, which is quite a steal. The Tonkotsu Ramen we ordered is the only one ala-carte style, it was creamy made by hours of boiling pork bone. Gyudon is so-so, so much room for improvement. Tempura is nothing spectacular. The rolls are also OK in quality. Gyoza is also OK. The beef curry, could've been better.
I'm always in search of the best ramen and last Wednesday my search brought me to Rosanjin Megamall. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen Combo. This comes with an order of gyoza. I liked the broth of the Tonkotsu Ramen. And the noodles' firmness is perfect. Though my friend find the soup a bit oily. I'm excited to try other items in the menu so --- yes, I'll definitely return!
Budget per pax: P400
My date and I recently went for lunch at Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant in SM Megamall.Â
Rosanjin is named after Kitaohji Rosanjin, a Japanese pottter, painter, chef and gourmand. Opened last 2014, Rosanjin
offers traditional food like tempura, sushi and ramen and modern Japanese dishes like the Tobanyaki and Kaminabe. Â
We started with a Kaminabe: Seafood Kaminabe.
Kaminabe is a Japanese art of cooking where Japanese paper is used as a pot. The Japanese paper is not made from
any special material, it is just an ordinary paper. The Japanese paper doesn't burn while cooking because the heat applied to the paper is not above its ignition temperature. It is said that the paper absorbs the excess oil from the food, hence, making the flavor more distinct.
The natural flavor from the seafood blended perfectly with the base soup. The boyfie and I just loved sipping the
soup along with the generous amount of seafood and veggies added to it.Â
We also had the Australian Rib Steak Tobanyaki. Tobanyaki is an art of Japanese cooking where an earthenware, called Toban, is used. Toban is made from heat protection
clay or aluminum. The Toban makes it possible for the meat to retain its juice and its flavor. Â
This dish easily became my favorite, as the rib steak was pillowy tender and the taste uncomplicated but impressive. Â
For dessert, we shared a Green Tea Pudding. Any matcha or green tea fanatic will like this simple Green Tea Pudding. The green tea flavor is dominant in every
 spoonful.Â
I have a huge respect for Japanese cuisine and I am impressed with the two new amazing types of Japanese cooking
introduced to me by Rosanjin. I would definitely return to try more Kaminabe and Tobanyaki variants, and of course try  their sushi soon.

A stroll at SM Megamall during lunch hour leads us to an uncrowded Rosanjin restaurant. We wanted Japanese food but most of the restaurants are full and with lines. This restaurant looks nice and has good interiors, like walking in old Japan with geishas around with umbrellas. I wonder why this place doesn't get full.
Rosanjin is known for two different styles in the art of cooking. They are called Tobanyaki and Kaminabe. Tobanyaki is cooked in an aluminum plate/pot over heat. THe aluminum alloy absorbs the heat and directly cooks the dish locking all its juices. Kabinabe, on the other hand, is cooking with Japanese paper. Instead of pot, you get paper, which magically does not burn. The paper is used to cook the dish and absorb all its oils and scum, so it's like clean eating. Both styles are prepared and cooked on the table in front of you. Though it takes 7-10 minutes to cook, it is fun to watch. If you're hungry, you might want to order some side dishes while you wait.
For the sake of experience, we tried both styles and ordered Chicken Misoyaki, Buri Kaminabe, and Shrimp Gyoza.
The chicken misoyaki is very good and colorful. The chicken is very tender and has sucked in the flavors of miso and butter. After cooking the liquids concentrated to a sauce.
Buri is a high-quality fatty fish famous in Japan and is only eaten during special occasions. I was surprised when I tasted the buri kaminabe, it was light and flavorful. Since the oil and scum can no longer be tasted, it brought out the freshness of the fish cooked in soy sauce and lemon. I would definitely recommend this dish!
We also tried their Shrimp Gyoza while waiting for our two main dishes to be cooked. I very much like this gyoza because the skin is thin, a whole shrimp is used per gyoza, and when you bite into it, its savory juice comes out, much like a xiao long pao. It was light and fun to eat.
Price, at first is intimidating, and might come out expensive, but with the quality of freshness, taste, ambiance, and experience you are getting, the price is just right. Some dishes like ebi tempura is actually cheaper than most of its competitors.
Will definitely bring my family next time.
Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant is a casual restaurant in SM Mega Fashion Hall specializing in Tobanyaki and Kaminabe, two unexplored food concepts/cooking styles which I was more than happy to try.
Tobanyaki is a method of cooking with involves an earthenware called toban. I like the Australian Rib Steak tobanyaki which had juicy, bite-sized cuts of steak that was flavorful even with minimal seasoning.
The Jumbo Scallops Butteryaki were even more delicious: huge Hokkaido scallops topped simply with butter, which melts once the toban is lit. Loved how delicate, creamy and sweetish the scallops are.
For the kaminabe, I tried the sukiyaki which had a nice broth and tender beef, some vegetables, shiitake, and vermicelli.Â
Dessert was good--a green tea pudding which was as sweet as it was earthy.
Overall I loved my refreshingly unique dining experience at Rosanjin. I'm definitely going back.

We dined at Rosanjin last year and I liked the pretty Japanese decor. It makes me think of geishas walking down Japanese streets with Japanese umbrellas, amidst cherry blossom trees. Anyway, Rosanjin is rolling out a new menu and I was so happy to have been invited to try them! Rosanjinâs new menu centers around Tobanyaki and Kaminabe.

Tobanyaki is a modern style teppanyaki and Kaminabe is a Japanese traditional hot pot that uses Japanese paper. Iâll show you more in a bit!
I was told that Rosanjin is the only place here in Manila that specializes in Tobanyaki and Kaminabe .
TOBANYAKI
Tobanyaki is the method of roasting something on a plate, that uses the radiation effect for even roasting. This way, the food doesnât dry out while being cooked through. Food is cooked quickly and evenly, without burning. Meats cooked using this method are juicy and tender.
I was also told there are other advantages to Rosanjinâs Tobanyaki â it eliminates food odors and provides negative ions (these are good for you!).
We started out with the highlight of the Tobanyaki menu â the Australian Rib Steak (P380)! These are square pieces of Australian Rib Steak and Tofu. We also had the Chicken Cheesayaki (P280) and the Jumbo Scallop Butteryaki (P450).
We were first shown the raw dishes, beautifully arranged on the toban (this is what the tobanyaki cooking pot is called). The waiter then covers them and lights the fire for each of the dishes.
These dishes should be left undisturbed for 7-10 minutes (it really depends on what you order, but ours was around 7 minutes). The waiter can either remove the plate from the fire, or you can blow out the fireÂ
The Australian Rib Steak was tender and juicy, and affordable at only P380! It is served with 3 sauces â steak sauce, sour cream, and shapirian. I liked the sour cream sauce â it actually tastes like it has a bit of horseradish in it, but itâs not hot or spicy. The beef is really tender, with no tough parts at all! We took care not to overcook it and blew out the flame as soon as it reached our desired level of doneness.
We are used to having our beef steaks grilled, but having them cooked tobanyaki style is different and produces consistently juicy beef.
If you want some Wagyu, they have Wagyu Tenderloin Steak Kaminabe (P600), and Premium Wagyu Chuck Tender Steak (P1,200).
The Chicken Cheesayaki was a crowd favorite. It is flavored with a demi-glace sauce and cheese! There is salt and pepper on the side if you want to add more seasoning. My companion loved it as it is, but I prefer it just a tiny bit saltier.
The Jumbo Scallops are topped with Uni! Make sure not to overcook them, too. Jumbo Scallops AND Sea Urchin for only P450? Thatâs just amazingly affordable. The scallop was fresh and tastes like the sea (in a good way). The best way to eat it is to eat the entire scallop, toppings and all, in one bite!
KAMINABE
Kaminabe is cooking using Japanese paper as a pot. Youâll be amazed to see that the paper doesnât burn! Itâs just regular Japanese traditional paper.
Just in case you are wondering why it doesnât burn, itâs because the paper burns at 300 degrees. But the soup inside the Kaminabe also absorbs some of the heat from the flame, so the temperature of the paper will not get any higher than 100 degrees as long as it still has some soup.
The advantages of cooking using Kaminabe is that the food will be healthier and taste more delicate because the paper will absorb any oils and scum from the food. There is also less clean up because the paper can just be thrown away after itâs been used. No messy cleanup! It's actually quite eco-friendly.
The only thing holding the paper up is a wire basket, and as you can see, the paper doesnât burn. Some people will have a fun time trying to figure out the magic behind it.
The Sukiyaki Kaminabe was my favorite! Itâs not as sweet as we are used to, the taste is authentic Japanese (the owner is Japanese) â light and sweet. It has some cabbage and glass noodles. I love the beef, too â I find it very tender. I will definitely come back for this! I can finish an entire order by myself!
The Seafood Kaminabeâs soup base is a shoyu sauce. The soup is light and delicately flavored. It has shrimp, scallop and buri (yellowtail or amberjack).
The Shrimp Kaminabeâs soup base has negimiso (curious about negi miso?). I like the soup because it is sweet, savory and shrimpy! It actually reminds me of a shrimp bisque. Itâs not as thick as a bisque, but the concentrated shrimp flavor is there.
For dessert, we had the Green Tea Pudding (P150), which I really liked! The matcha flavor is not too strong (very light). It doesnât taste grassy. Itâs very light and not heavy at all, and itâs very refreshing! Even though it is not very creamy in the traditional dessert sense, I really like it and recommend it to anyone who loves light, delicate desserts. It is topped with red beans.
I also liked this Apple and Cheese Gyoza (P250) â it is apple and sweet cream cheese inside a fried gyoza wrapper, served with vanilla ice cream. If you love turon, I bet youâll enjoy this, too!

I have to admit, I've heard mixed reviews about Ronsajin from friends and family before. But, finding out they have my favorite beef sukiyaki, I went on to try it out. My what a surprised for me that their specialty dishes such as the Tobanyaki and Nabeyaki we sure to impress! They really have quality meats and seafood selections. Even those who are not fans of meat like me find myself found myself addicted to their meat! And, the price is unbelievably affordable. The service is also exemplary as we were not only assisted well in cooking the dishes on our table with precision, we were also oriented with history of the dishes we ordered.Â
I highly recommend their Tobanyaki and Nabeyaki! Great for group sharing!
It's really easy now to crave for international food because a lot of establishment are sprouting everywhere. No need to ride a plane just to taste their authentic cuisines. If you go to SM Megamall, there are several international food joints that you can choose from. And just recently I discovered Rosanjin Japanese Restaurant.

Rosanjin's menu is on the pricier side, but they serve a variety of delicious dishes that cater to various lovers of Japanese cuisine--sushi, sashimi, ramen, gyoza, tempura, donburi, and desserts. I suggest if you plan to eat here, bring extra cash so you can try one of everything (and share the load with your friends) to satisfy your Japanese craving.
Must-try are their Tobanyaki and Kaminabe dishes. It's actually my first time to hear about these styles of serving Japanese food and got impressed with what I saw. (I'm shallow, yes I know.) It's just that the whole process of cooking it is solemn and mysterious. It makes you appreciate how the Japanese gives importance to their craft of cooking. It's not like they serve it to you and you hork it all down with a few gulps. You actually become a part of the cooking process!
Quite fancy actually-- because it's the traditional way of cooking Japanese food using earthenware called "toban". With this style of cooking, there is no risk of burning the meat as the material used transmits heat easily and equally. Plus, you get more flavour from the ingredients itself, giving your taste buds the party they deserve with just a few bites
We ordered the Australian Rib Steak Tobanyaki, a combination of super soft and juicy meat and tofu paired with 3 sauces: yakiniku, sour cream, and a wine-based sauce. This was my favourite out of all the dishes we tried that night because the beef was so soft and juicy. It was delicately flavoured with spices and the sauces add an extra kick of either soy sauce, cream, or wine (based on your choice). I can literally eat it all day.
We also ordered Chicken Cheeseyaki. It's like a Japanese version of cordon bleu but instead of fried chicken and cheese, it's skinless thigh chicken meat slathered with sauce, cheese, and a side of tomatoes, carrots, and asparagus cooking in its own oil and juices. This one's good for kids and kids at heart because of the cute carrot cuts in it.

Now onto the soup! Kaminabe is the traditional way of cooking hot pot dishes using Japanese paper. The Japanese paper used is unlike the flimsy type of paper we buy at National Bookstore. This one is actually sturdy enough to hold the soup without getting burned! It also absorbs the oil and scum from the ingredients thus resulting to a healthy and delicate taste. Amazing!Â
We ordered Sukiyaki and Shrimp Kaminabe and both bowls of soup were exactly what we expected--hearty and simmering with flavour. I preferred more noodles and sweet taste from the sukiyaki, but that's just my own preference. We were actaully worried at first if it would get cooked but after a few mixing, it was cooked thoroughly, tender, and tasty. The shrimp was half cooked already before the Kaminabe cooking took over so we had no worries about that. We just hoped the shrimps were served without the shell so it would be easie to eat. But yes, everything was delicious and swimming in yummy hot broth so I'm good.Â
To cap off the night, we had green tea pudding topped with red monggo and a dollop of whipped cream. It was the perfect sweet palate cleanser after slurping soups and eating savoury meats.
Note: cooking takes about 7-10 mins, so be patient and avoid that "hangry" vibe before ordering for a pleasant eating experience. Remember: great things take time, that includes food.
UPDATE: Tried their ramen set. The gyoza was good but not so much the ramen.
Walk into SM Megamall Fashion Hall and you will find plenty of restaurants that specialize in different cuisines. Go to Rosanjin if you are looking for a fresh way to sample the flavors of Japan. If you have not tried Japanese food for a long time, this is a good spot to take the plunge.
Tobanyaki Australian Rib Steak (PhP 380) was served raw with bite-size pieces of tofu on an earthenware called âtoban.â This dish is cooked in 7-10 minutes using the traditional Japanese wayâwith tobanâs high quality heat reserve and ultra-red lay effect.
The seasoning of the rib steak was very simple, hence it came out with the true flavor of the beef itself. Juicy, tender, and super soft are the best adjectives to describe the steak, or âperfectly executedâ in sum. Three kinds of sauce made good companions for the meat, but we especially loved the yakiniku sauce. Try it!
The Seafood Kaminabe (PhP 400, Regular) is another interesting dish to consider at Rosanjin. Kaminabe translates to âJapanese Paper Hotpotâ in English, and this steamboat dish has its ingredients literally laid out artistically in a pot made of paper that doesnât burn even when cooked directly under fire.
Itâs fascinating to learn that the secret behind it is with the special coating on both sides of the paper. A thicker layer that has direct contact with the flame keeps the temperature lower than 160 degrees Celsius, and this manages to withstand the heat, keeping it from burning while cooking food in it (as long as thereâs still soup).
The sharp bitter taste in the soup is lessened. What results is a sweet soy sauce-based soup with fresh-tasting shrimps, scallops, and buri loaded with seafood flavor without grease. Like the tobanyaki, kaminabe also has a cooking time of 7-10 minutes.
Harmonious on the palate, the Chicken Teriyaki Roll (PhP 150) is an absolutely delicious mixture of sweet, sticky teriyaki chicken, and crunchy cucumber with a chili on top as an added spice. This can be a proof that big flavors come in small packages. :) I highly recommend getting this instead of a platter of typical sushi fare.
Salmon Carpaccio (PhP 250), an Italian fusion sashimi, is a refined seafood entree and worth an order every time. The presentation, with mayonnaise flavored sauce at the center, is sure to get some oohs and ahhs from the table. The fish tastes like it just came out of the ocean. It brings everything to the next level. Squeeze the lemon and enjoy it with the sliced tomato, cucumber, and onions in one mouthful. Yum!
Served well-chilled, the Green Tea Pudding (PhP 150) topped with red beans and cream turns out to be a perfect light, sweet ending to a ginormous Japanese meal. Taste is far from the sweet territory, but you canât go wrong.
