Since there have been some negative revisions lately I was a little apprehensive about food quality. But the beef noodle soup i ordered allayed my fears. Good pieces of beef in a flavorful broth with cooked noodles. Thai beef soup has a lot of similarities with pho, main differences being a darker thicker soup with little more sweetness and star anise. Well executed
Happy to have eaten in this place again. Thai comfort food at its finest 😍
Reasonable price. Generous servings. Accommodating staffs.
Will definitely come back for that flavorsome curry!!
Very good and authentic Thai food. Love their phad thai, bagoong rice and Thai iced tea.
Reasonably priced, yummy food at affordable prices.
We went here because we were craving for some good Thai food at a reasonable price. I'm so happy we found this place! 😍
Tom yam- this was so good. It's good for around 3-4 people. It was sweet with the right hint of sour. I'm a fan. It's only 250 pesos too.
Spring rolls- at 120 pesos this is a must order. We ordered two because we liked these so much. There's vermicelli and mushroom inside too along with the meat. It's so wonderful made.
Green curry- the curry is outstanding. I have no words. It's just plain beautiful.
Thai iced tea- a bit sweet but still good.
Will definitely be back.

My trip to The Mango Tree Bistro made me want to revisit an old favorite of Rina and I. Perhaps the only place we think of when we crave for Thai food, mainly because it's really cheap and, truth be told, pretty darn kick ass. While The Mango Tree Bistro gives you a sophisticated and authentic Thai dining experience at an upscale rate, Som's cuts through all those "unnecessary" luxuries, and gives you no frills, delicious Thai food.
Authentic Thai cuisine at a very reasonable price! This place serves kick ass Thai food and i would definitely recommend this place! Kudos to the Thai owner!
I heard about this from a fellow atenean. They would alwatys go here after class since it was walking distance from school. out of curiosity 3 years later, I was finally able to pay a visit and feed my tummy with some good thai food.
We ordered Bagoong Rice (ofcourse) and 2, for that matter. 🤣🤣 1 serving is a lot for 1 but not enough for 2. (: Green Beef Curry which is really savoury. The sauce was THE bomb. 💣. BUT, there was not enough beef. though the sauce can stand on its own. 😍 The squid in basil is a star! I just wanted more. 😭 and yiu can never go wrong with Chicken Satay! 😍
Everything is love, here. Price is 👌. We only had to pay for about 800 for everything. We went home with such a preggy tummy and full hearts.
Great people, great service. Best Thai food in the Metro! I’d definitely bring fam and friends here. Very affordable, worth every penny yo! If you know, you know. We out hereeee

Reasonably priced & yum Thai! Som’s Noodle House is one of those hole in the wall places which is very easy to miss among the residential houses in Enriquez street - ideal for the folks working/studying here! We ordered a Pad Thai (Php 230), Thai Red Curry (Php 200) and Rice (2 cups for Php 20). The red curry was good for sharing and absolutely delicious! Frankly, the curry and rice was sufficient to fill our tummies (me and my friend) but nonetheless we had half of the yum pad Thai too and got a doggy bag for the rest. Overall, good food, easy on the pocket and reasonably prompt service.
Its the first day of September. We're giddy, and we drove all over Makati to find something that's new to me. I'm excited!
We went to Rockwell area, where Soms is located. And just found out that they moved to a nearby place(old location is sold and has a new establishment)
And we found it! Its a hidden gem. Well, ambiance may not be appealing, I have a mind set of enjoying their authentic Thai dishes. Quite disappointed, as most of the dishes we ordered are not available, so we have to choose another in the menu.
We had:
🌠Tom Yam (P250) , it has lemon grass, ywllow ginger, chili paste. Kaffir leaves. With seafood (shrimp & squid) Soooo good! Enjoyed the soup with a bit of sourness, spicy and flavorful. Mild spicy for me, though at first look, the red soup looks super spicy.
🌠Red Curry (P200) we ordered this dish with chicken. This one looks like Kare-Kare😊 curry flavor is awesome. It has basil leaves, slices eggplants, green chili, bell pepper and coconut milk.
🌠Spicy Squid. Saucy dish, that has basil leaves, beans and chili. For me, simple one but its also good.
🌠Thai Tea (P50), for a milk tea lover like me this is a super sulit drink.
Verdict: Happy to be in this hole in a wall place. I enjoyed the food! Quality food for an affordable price.
My all time favorite hole in the wall Thai restaurant. The ambiance is far from when they started but the food tastes the same over the years. Wherever you go, I'll find you. Thank you for sharing Som's story, tita! See you again.
The Thai tea is a must-try!!! But everything we ordered was absolutely delicious (Green curry, fried rice, spicy squid and the sautéed chicken)
Soms is a classic hole in the wall. Slightly sweet but a bargain for authentic Thai run Resto. Owner was chef at sukothai years ago inn mega. A fun place along the back streets near Rockwell.
WARNING: (lengthy review below)
PERSISTENCE IS KEY to finding the new location of this Thai jewel blending among the rows of condos, houses and backstreets. Parking is a challenge so it's best to leave your car somewhere safe and take the rewarding stroll until you see the familiar sign in the distance.
Inside is a distinctively homey ambiance with friendly faces eager to take your order. The new place looked much more like a family-run business compared to its' former aesthetic. There were no unpleasant sights of business between foreigners and locals who roam the Red Light district, no smokers, no traffic and the place immediately initiates respect since un nga, legit bahay talaga siya. You get to greet the faces who warmly welcome you before you take your seat. A note though, if you are easily distracted by the local radio stations audibly playing in the background, the tender meows of the Khao Manee (looked like one, as in) echoing within its' walls, the laughter (uh, tantrums) of children and the lack of air conditioning, don't bother. If the longing for the food they serve isn't enough to sway the aesthetics you expect, I suggest you dine in other Thai choices on this app. I am writing this review because of the food, not because of how the restaurant looked.
I sat several feet away from the portraits of the well-loved King Bhumibol and his wife while my handsome date and I waited for our order of Thai iced tea, bagoong rice, yellow chicken curry and garlic pepper beef. After gushing over Thai politics, the grueling journey to find Soms after almost two years, and the lucky chance of having parking outside the establishment, our iced tea arrived. The Thai iced tea was still the same: tasty, yet not too overpowering and the first sip of the cold drink was a joy because I looked for Soms' Thai iced tea for almost two years na (seryoso, iba talaga sa kanila, IMHO). Once the food came, I was so ecstatic to see the curry and beef served on the same plate and in the same bowl used dun sa older branch. The bagoong rice was meant to be mixed first with the strips of green mango, egg and beef. Everything complimented each other. Ung sauce ng curry? Kahit un lang tapos rice okay na. The chicken? Juskopo patawarin. Ang sarap. The beef, however, was a bit gamey and we had to request for it to be sliced into strips so we can mix it in with the rice, pero sh*t ang sarap pa rin. Our bill was only around 650; not bad since for two people, the portions were enough and we even had to control ourselves so we can have some take out.
The point of this review? Well I like telling stories. The whole experience of revisiting Soms and having their food again was incredible. The place is smaller, reminiscent of someone's house and more homey now. You may or may not agree with me, but if you are one of the people who adored Soms on the first bite, who look forward to their dishes ever since they moved from their former place, and who appreciate the unforgettable modesty of their food, you'll understand.
Haven't been there for over a year, and fortunately, I found its new location. Ordered my fave chicken red curry; taste still remains very authentic and it's still is very generous in portion. I still enjoy it very spicy with extra chilli powder. Yup, when the Som's people recalled me as a regular then who loves it with chilli powder, Manang (who helps run the place) offered it with my order. Thanks a lot Som's and Manang, babalik uli ako dun :-)
If your craving for Thai dish, you should dine here..their new place has no aircondition but feels homey :) Thai tea is must, you'll loveee it!!
Thai food is one of the best cuisines in Asia. They are known for their emphasis on food balance, detail, and variety. Very specifically, Thai food is famous for its unique taste combinations such as: spicy, sweet, salty, bitter, and sour. YTB uncovered a humble Thai place hidden in the heart of an elite community: Rockwell. The place is called the “Som’s Noodle House. Unlike other noodle houses which are stylish, Som’s is a typical hole-in-the-wall place so do not set your expectation too high. However, you can look forward to these yummy goodness:
A true hole in the wall resto, almost hidden in the vicinity. This resto is known for its authentic Thai dishes. I give 3 for the location as their air conditioning broke down so we had to eat outside their improvised chairs and tables with shade.
Food was really good most especially the tom yum soup, pad thai and fried rice! Also tried their spring rolls chichen bbq sate and Thai iced tea which were just ok for me. Bill was pricey though...
It has been there as long as I can remember. Their food is good! My fave thing to order there is their thai milk tea, the best!! Some are expense and some are budget friendly. I love it because it's really authentic! Cheaper than the restaurants you see at greenbelt so that's a plus!
Top of mind choice when craving for thai Street Food. Love the usual seafood pad thai which really tastes legit, Thai spring rolls which has watercress and other stuff that isn't usually found on spring rolls, red curry. Price is good and appreciate more of the street dining area which makes the experience more legit.
Started as a small kiosk for to-go eaters. One of the most authentic Thai places around. Chicken Red Curry, Seafood Tom Yum and their homemade Thai Tea are their bestsellers. Over the years their prices increased but quality stayed pretty much the same. Unfortunately their serving size lessened. A must try place for Thai and spicy enthusiasts.
A bit disappointed during our last meal here. We were there on a Sunday lunch and some of our orders (pandan chicken, tuna & even coke) are unavailable. Food-wise, I enjoyed the spring rolls, tom yam & bagoong rice (but it's expensive at P120 a cup for a hole-in-the-wall resto). Milk tea is good, too. The catfish salad (at P150) is just ok. Service: the whole time we were there, I saw just 2 staff members so it sometimes can take a while if you need their assistance. Ambiance: you go here for the food. Enough said. :)
One of best Thai place I know. I so love their Thai Iced Tea, Green Curry and Catfish Salad. Of course, as well as the Mango Sticky Rice. I could say though that their food tasted better before the expansion.

They serve authentic pad thai. According to them, their pad thai is good for 2 to 3 people, but I'm a girl with a huge appetite...so their serving is just good for me. They have a variety of Thai food to choose from. You have to try their milk tea. It's so good.
Was there last night. And we got in like around 9:50 they close at 10pm but they still get our orders, so its a plus. Last night wasnt really busy. We had Pad thai (seafood), Lab Gai which comes in really big servings. And spring rolls. The server girl said itll be ready in 15 mins so its okay since im with a friend. Thir pad thai is tha best. And as well as lab gai. I love that they do it fresh. Spring rolls are good too but i wasnt really a fan. Price is just right. Ill be deffo coming back for more. Two thumbs up for this place!
Honestly, I am not a fan of Thai food and I hate curry. But this humble restaurant changed everything I thought about Thai food - it made me love it! Thanks to my friend who brought me here for lunch! Som's is located in Algier St in Poblacion, Makati and just near Rockwell. I was told that it started just along the street and were able to build their own establishment when it became a hit. Since I was not really a Thai food lover, (and my first time so I don't have anything to compare this with) I let my friend ordered the food for us. He got us the Bagoong Rice, Red Curry and Green Curry ( the former is beef while the latter is chicken). We also had their Spicy Squid, and this round meat balls which I forgot what it's called but it's certainly yummy. Their bagoong rice is good as it is. I mean, you can eat it without any viands at all. I love the spicy squid. It might be too spicy for others but there's something unique with what they used..I just don't know if they put a certain Thai herb or spice. The squid is also just fine. It was cooked very well. The Red and Green Curry were both delicious. I think I'm beginning to love Thai food bec of these. Hehe The place tends to be crowded during lunch time, so make sure to come a little early for lunch. Don't expect something like of a high-end restaurant. It's not. But you won't be disappointed bec it has clean surroundings and organized as well. It's more of a cafeteria slash carinderia type of place. Som's is highly recommended if you want some Thai food but easy on the pocket. Yet again, no pic were taken bec of our hungry and very much demanding tummy! 😁
Som's has been our Thai resto place to go to. However, the ambiance over the year but their food is still tasty and almost what you crave for flavor.
Best food: pad thai, curry and pakboong
An inexpensive thai restaurant located along Rockwell. I can say that Soms was the first restaurant here in poblacion before el chupacabra, señor pollo, salt and mary grace came along. Anyway, we ordered kangkong, spring rolls, pandan chicken, chicken curry, rice and thai iced tea. Nothing great, food was just average for a Thailand restaurant. I didn't really expect great flavors so for me it was okay. I just craved for inexpensive thai food and I was in the area and it was traffic so We just ate here. It's like eating thai food at home.
I still recall Som's early days, when it was just a humble street restaurant with only plastic chairs and tables arranged along the sidewalk to accommodate a long line of customers. With a booming business, it was able to construct an air-conditioned dining place to give room to an increasing number of Thai food enthusiasts, and yet retaining the original sidewalk chairs and tables for those who want to have a feel of Bangkok street food ambiance. Despite the abundance of Thai restaurants in Manila, Som's is still frequently visited by customers, old and new alike, because of the authentic taste of its dishes. Although culinary cliches, the tom yum and bagoong rice are some of the best-sellers, and likewise some of its best, and are thus highly recommended.
It has been so long since I last ate at Som's, I guess more than 5 years ago already. The place has a new look from way back. They now have some bbq going on outside.
We ordered our usual favorites, Bagoong Rice, Pad Thai, Pandan Chicken, Tom Yum and of course their Curries.
Yellow Chicken Curry for the kids and the spicy Red Beef Curry for us adults. Love their food! But we keep coming back for the curries!
Gotta keep your eyes opened when looking for this place in Rockwell. Its located on a side street, that is surrounded by cars and greenery but it's somewhat easier to see at night since their signage is very visible & bright.
I ordered Pad Thai, Tom Yum Gung & Thai Iced Tea.
Pad Thai was really good especially when I added chili powder & kalamansi for some acidity & balance. Noodles were cooked well & the ingredients were proportionate. Although I would've loved if they put more spring onions since it helps to bring out some sweetness to the dish.
The soup broth was rich & creamy & tasted authentic. The sourness was just right & the the heat was enough to break a lil sweat that can all be cooled down by the thai iced tea. Although I feel that the drink had too much sugar. Ill be back again but not for the thai iced tea.
I haven't been to Som's in years, but this is where my love for Thai food started. I can't even remember how I found out about this hole-in-the-wall but it was just a small street-side Thai carinderia, with monoblock chairs and tables with beach-umbrellas. Cars would literally pass you by while you eat. The last time I went there, they already have an indoor dining.
We often order the catfish or somtam salad, green chicken curry, pad thai and garlic pepper shrimp. Don't forget to try their Thai Iced Tea too! :)
Came here for a quick dinner before a beer sesh. Catfish salad became an instant fave! Don't be deceived by the humble canteen-like interior. They have really big servings. Even have isaw station outside.
After waking up from a long night alcohol binge, it's always nice to recover from a hangover by feeding yourself with an authentic home cooked Thai meal and Milk Tea hydration. Despite the simple "WYSIWYG" interiors, Soms never fails to comfort you with it's value for your money big servings and tasty offerings. I've been going to this place when it was literally still a hole in the wall and it hasn't disappointed me since.
Comfy, homey, thai food. This is no high end place. Come here to get good thai home cooking, big servings and affordable prices. The recently added grill outside caters to your bbq cravings.
Again, not for those expecting a mind blowing gastronemous dining experience. Som's simplicity and homey feel is exactly the thai street food experience you would want.

Finally got to try this place, I've been wanting to try this place since last year but none of my friends want to come with me. It's their loss! Haha
Everything that we ordered was heavenly delicious:
*Shrimp Salad—PERFECTION!
*Seafood Pad Thai—Best I've ever tried.
*Green Curry—Not really a curry fan but I liked this.
*Spicy Shrimp—Too spicy for me since I don't really eat spicy food but to someone who loves spicy stuff, this will be a big hit!
Price was affordable as well, it's cheaper than most Thai restaurants. Place has a carinderia vibe but I think it's part of the authentic experience.
Som's!!! I love their pad thai and their thai milk tea. I also love how simple and straight forward this hole-in-the-wall place is. You would never have guessed that this establishment that looks like a simple carinderia actually serves the best thai food in the Metro!
My colleagues recommended this Thai restaurant as I was craving for Thai food last year after we've tried one of the Thai resto in SM Aura with my family. They said that Som's is good and very affordable.
My boyfriend and I searched where it was and dined in. The place was a typical Thai restaurant that looked like a simple canteen but was crowded with young professionals. They have a wide selection of Thai food which are very affordable and I may say quite yummy. We ordered Catfish Salad, my ever favorite Bagoong Rice and Chicken Pandan and Phad Ki Mao Moo.
Unfortunately, we didn't really had the time to savor the food as we were having difficult and challenging matters with my family at that moment. At that point, I had no drive to take photos yet we've enjoyed the affordable Thai food and it satisfied my craving for it.
Budget friendly Thai food in the Metro. The food I've tried here is a bit sweet such as the pad thai, green curry and red curry but still okay. I will definitely go back here for quick a and budget friendly Thai fix. :)
If you are looking for a affordable thai food, Som's is the way to go. Enjoyed their catfish salad, green curry beef and of course their tom yam.. All are good tasting plus a kick of spice of an authentic thai food! Definitely will go back and dine again!!!
Thai food is one of my faves and i'm glad my sister reminded me of this place which i heard some years ago from a good friend but haven't gone there until recently. Soms serves a very good pad thai, they're authentic and yet affordable. I wish to revisit SoMs soon.
I love their Bagoong Fried Rice. It can actually be a meal on its own. Their Chicken Yellow Curry is also pretty good. They now also serve various grilled seafood options. Servings are good sized. Prices are also pretty reasonable.
Love this hole-in-the-wall restaurant. But it’s just a bit hard to find it these days. Here are some of their dishes that wowed me:
Tom Yum Soup - This is one of Thailand's signature dishes. It is a soup dish made of lemongrass, kaffir leaves, yellow glinger, chili paste, and your choice of meat (beef, chicken, pork, or seafoods). We had Seafood, of course!
Catfish Mango Salad - I LOVE THIS SALAD. I'm ecstatic Soms can price this just right, some restaurants charge double for this, with the same quantity.
Seafood Pad Thai - Tastes legit. Almost like that unforgettable Pad Thai I had in the streets of Bangkok. You will get what you pay for -- each of your bite will have a piece of seafood with it. I bet you'd still enjoy this even if you get the plain one, though! The rice noodles itself, mixed with the right amount of egg, tamarind, and some spices had me at hello 👏🏼 I bet it'll do the same to you.
Yummy food. I Iove pad thai and tom yum because of Soms. Their thai milk tea is my favorite too. Simple set up. I hope they do something about the big scary rats outside.
Tonto fried fish, tom yum are the best! Chicken pandan too. Didn't like the pad Thai though. Last time I visited, they've added chicken inasal to the menu which was a little odd IMO
Som's is awesome! Curry curry curry!!! Red green yellow take a pick! As mentioned in a previous review I love all things curry. I'm so impressed at how they balance flavours of sweet salty sour and spicy. My favourite curry is the Green Curry Duck! Its even better now because they have more meat than ever before! Wooo hoooo - bonus! I was also extremely happy to find that they improved their roti, its now flakier (it used to be softer and more pancake like - too filling), never go astray from roti to soak up all those delicious sauces.
Other som's favourites are the pad thai, chicken satay, chicken pandan - all very tasty. But for me curry is king!
Som's deliver bold flavours and its very cheap so you can order more varieties hehehe ;)
SOM'S is my default Thai restaurant when I miss Bangkok's Silom sidewalk eateries.
I always get the table outside for its ambience and people-watching factor. One time a "politico" was trying to get a table ahead of others who were clearly there earlier than them. Good thing the staff didn't budge and the arrogant "public servant" decided to just leave with his body guards and LV-clutching son.
Anyway about the food. I'm not a fan of their Tom Yam soup, too much coconut milk. So just stick with what they do best. Order the Pad Thai, Chicken Satay, Catfish Salad, Beef Red Curry, and Bagoong Fried Rice. Of course don't miss out on their Thai Tea with lots of ice.
If you like sidewalk barbecue, you could also get pork barbecue, pig's ear etc from their outside grill.
Best time to get a table outside is on a breezy cool night.
