First time eating here and I liked it. The eel is freshly prepared and you can watch if you want. Definitely coming back here the next time I crave unagi. Tip: the lunch specials give you the most bang for your buck.

Restaurant specializing in Japanese style eel. So far it the best eel place I've been around Makati. Quality is superb for all the food including the tofu. Its the few legit japanese place where japanese expats go to for lunch. It is pricey but understable as ingredients they use are fresh.

Authentic unagi just like I've had abroad. Was very satisfied with the quality of the eel, and how they cooked it... Eel was not overcooked as it often is. Will come again. Other reviewers say it's pricy but you gotta pay for quality.

The Food:
Their unagi (river eel) is love! Get only half but the serving looks pretty generous & you still get a lot of eye-catching side dishes. The way they present edamame is interesting, even though they were only 3 pieces! Get a lunch set for more value. Free hot/cold tea. Don't be shy to ask for more. The fruit is sliced from below so you can bite right out of the peel like a pro!

The Ambience:
I only saw the front part of the restaurant and I'm impressed. It's roomy and cozy with good air-conditioning. Eating at the bar-type seats at the left side is always fun, and groups of 2-4 can take the tables on the right side. There seem to be more seats at the back but I have yet to explore that area.

The Hours:
Lunch and Dinner time only.

The Overall Experience:
WONDERFUL!
I'd definitely come back to try their other dishes. I love shake (salmon) and saba (mackerel) so my scent is locked! Eating here is very relaxing.

my friends and i ordered the half grilled eel with rice (i like that this was not as sweet as the other restaurants) and miso soup and eel with egg and onion (this one is also good though i felt the taste of the eel got drowned from the egg and onions) . for dessert we got green tea and vanilla ice cream plus mochi.. yummy combination! the place is small so it got easily packed on a friday night but cozy ambiance and friendly staff makes it a good place to hang out. (plus they have good selection of drinks)

So far, Hitsumabushi in Nagoya is the 2nd best meal I've had in Japan and I'm so glad I found it in Manila! Hitsumabushi is basically eating Unagi Rice in '4' ways but firstly dividing it into quadrants then enjoying it - (1) as it is; (2) with the condiments of spring onion, wasabi, sesame seeds and nori; (3) with condiments and broth; (4) back to your favorite one. My favorite is actually between 2 and 3, I just don't add that much broth. The flavor is amazing 😍👍 Make a special request to have it with their Excellent Eel rather than the Fine one (which is what is on the menu).

Of course the one I had in Nagoya is far better than this but I was still happy coz they made it well. The 'Excellent Eel' is definitely a better choice, the serving was good too, and the quality of their wasabi was great. I highly recommend that you come here and have this rather than the plain Unagi Rice. Make sure to get the Excellent Eel than the Fine Eel as the price difference isn't quite big for the quality. The price is a little steep but it's unagi and it may be the only chance you'll experience Hitsumabushi.

Am not aure about the eel bones appetizer, nothing special about it so I would suggest that you skip it.

This place is getting popular so come soon!
