Biased as I love Coco Ichibanya! The standard was high as it is in any Coco Ichi, and the cost was in line with other branches around the world - expensive for the Philippines though.

Honestly, I find Coco Ichi in the Philippines better than the ones in Japan. Always my go to now whenever I crave for curry.

One my go-to favorites for Curry! Shame though that they have so few branches, especially near the South.

Their menu is full of curry, Pork Katsu Curry, Chicken Katsu Curry, Veggie Curry, Omelette Curry, and even Cheese Curry! My favorite is the Pork Katsu curry to stay. The katsu is tender and crunchy even if drowned in the sauce. The omelette is VERY fluffy and definitely changes the experience compared to eating plain rice. Lastly the highlight, the curry sauce, flavor is just right (not too strong) and you get to choose the spicyness level. There's a lot of sauce on the plate but its not overwhelming and I even find myself actually wishing there was more.

Service is very good! They have free condiments such as pickled ginger to add flavor to the dish. The servers are fast and attentive, they refill your water even without asking. The place is a bit tight though and some parts tend to get a bit warm. Thankfully, I haven't experienced any large crowds here even during weekday lunchtimes.

I highly recommend this place if you are a curry lover! I hope that they would open more branches especially in the South.

Being an authentic Japan restaurant, I had high expectations. When I tried it I find that their curry is different to what I am used to. I like my curry more on the coconut side and very creamy. I like the rice that comes with every dish, it’s Authentic Japanese. The wait staff was nice and friendly.

Another favorite! Very happy to see that they have multigrain rice as an option now. Their curry pales in comparison to the original in Japan but still very good honestly, especially this branch! Their sausages are so good! I typically order the vegetable curry with multigrain rice and it makes a perfect lunch or dinner that isn’t very unhealthy at all.

While I understand that a score of 5.0 is hard to merit, I’d justify this rating objectively. If you are craving for katsu curry dishes, this is your place to go. If you are not, no matter what dish you try, you simply won’t appreciate it.

I had the omurice with pork katsu and spicy curry (level 4) dish. The pork was battered and cooked perfectly, it was hot and crunchy all throughout, without being oily. The Japanese rice was cooked well, that you won’t be able to stop munching on it even if you’re on a diet. The curry sauce was just, good. It had the perfect consistency and the curry flavor didn’t taste ready-made.

It was a great experience. I would go for spicy level 7 next time though, since it’s not as spicy as I wanted it to be.

I was just at CoCo Ichibanya Greenhills branch last week (my first time at CoCo) and got hooked so now I’m back for more! Reasons for high rating of 4:

1. Consistently (just like in their Greenhills branch) serves cold water (which we like) right after leading us to our table. 💧

2. Service is quick from giving us menus and taking our orders to serving the food. 👍🏼

3. Consistently good Pork Cutlet Curry Rice! Yum! 😋

4. Discovered on this visit that their freshly fried Chicken Nuggets are crispy and good! Definitely always ordering that again as appetizer or side dish. 👌🏼

5. Love that their rice is customizable, I opted for less rice this time and they will refund you ₱20 from your bill. The spiciness level is customizable too. Spicy powder is also available on the table if you want to adjust it even more.🌶🍚

Some pet peeves I had about this visit though, we came merienda time so we were the only ones there plus another table who came after us and left before us:

1. Noisy staff chit chatting. It’s more than okay to talk to each other especially when there aren’t much customers but not too loud please that guests can hear everything.

2. Staff that uses the comfort room (they only have 1, unisex) TOO LONG, to - I don’t know - maybe dress up / put on make -up before or after her shift, while a customer that needs to pee waits for 5-10 minutes. And to add to this, indifferent staff at the counter who knows customer is waiting but doesn’t care if other staff is taking too long in the comfort room. 🚽

3. Unlike my review of their Greenhills branch where upon entering, it was very cool and welcoming after walking in the heat - it was warm when we entered this One Rockwell branch this afternoon. Imagine if we had parked in Power Plant Mall and walked over, the feeling would have been worse. A warm (temperature wise) establishment also doesn’t help when you serve spicy food (which we like but) which makes people sweat sometimes. 😓

4. This last one’s just wishful thinking - that restaurants in One Rockwell including this one provide free parking for let’s say 2 hours for a validated parking ticket with a minimum amount purchased ex. ₱300. Because most likely, there will be customers eating here that will head to the mall after which means automatically a minimum of a hundred pesos worth of parking fees - ₱50 for One Rockwell and ₱50 for Power Plant Mall (first 4 hrs on weekdays). But yes it’s definitely walkable from the mall but when the sun is scorching and when it’s raining, not too convenient to do so. ☀️☔️🚙

Will I be back? Yes! That’s how satisfying a meal their Pork Cutlet Curry and Chicken Nuggets are. 😆

Both the Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry and the Shrimp Omelette Curry were delicious. The creamy fluffy scrambled egg was perfect. The Japanese curry sauce was divine as always. And the servers were attentive even when you are seated in the less visible tables.

We have been a fan of Coco since we tried it out early last year (at their Robinson’s Manila branch, since it was close to our computer shop). It was our go to comfort food and even date night resto.
We knew that they had a Rockwell branch but only gotten around to visiting when my partner had to take a mental health staycation (since Rockwell was closer to the house than Robinson’s Manila)

Ambience is typical Coco decor, we immediately felt “at home”. The dining area is on the 2nd floor and gave diners privacy but also a view of the Rockwell buildings at the same time.

The curry is simply amazing. It never ceases to amaze me. Every visit could give you something new to try with all the selections and the seasoning of the curry is spot on.

They have also added a healthier rice option for the health conscious (multigrain/15 grain rice for an additional P30 if I remember correctly) and also the additional Level 6-10 Spice Level (for those who love their food SPIIIIICY).

Price range is around P300-450 per plate but their portions are waaaaay worth it. :3

I always love going here especially when I'm extra hungry. :) I always go for the omelette rice with the katsu. The katsu is actually pretty delicious, it's tender and the way it's cooked is absolutely marvelous. I love how fluffy the omelette that wraps the rice is. You can even customize the amount of rice that you want (for dishes that don't involve an omelette) as well as the spicy-ness of the dish. :)

Absolutely love that you’ve finally come to the Philippines, had my first taste back in 2013 in Tokyo. Absolutely in love. The best best best inimitable rich comforting curry sauce. Because I work in Makati CBD (Ayala Area), and live all the way in the South, and because of the disgusting traffic, I rarely go to Rockwell or Estancia. But every time in Powerplant, I make it a point to eat at Coco. Wish you could open another brand in Makati CBD. There are a lot of vacant places around Dela Rosa/Greenbelt area. *wink WINK wink* haha but kidding aside, if you were closer and more convenient to go to, I would definitely eat there 2-3x a week. Ohh. I also frequent McKinley a lot for client meetings. Maybe you can explore there too *more winks*

This is my nth time to coco ichibanya and to this branch actually. I super love their food! One of my comfort food to be exact. I'm a foodie and loves to try different food but whenever I am at coco I usually just order my usual plate of pork cutlet curry. Writing this makes me drool again, that's how good it is. Service of staff is commendable as well and ambiance is perfect for catching up with friends or just eating out during your me time since their food is so comforting that you'll just enjoy it really 😄 I really do hope they provide promos or VIP passes for frequent goers like me 😉

I ordered their Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry. I never thought that this combination would really go well together. It was quite pricey at 360 but I swear it gives you bang for your buck as the serving was really big. Even someone with a big appetite would leave some leftovers.I also personally do not eat curry but boy does their curry sauce taste good. So curry newbies don't be afraid to give it a try, just order the sauce in Mild. It tastes like gravy just with a mild kick. The sauce will be your favorite part of the meal.

The omelet that enveloped the rice was light and fluffy. The Pork Cutlet was lightly battered and fried crispy brown. As you bite into it you can taste the pork not just all breading.

Eating here would be a good way to enhance your palate and shy away from your normal fare.

A bit expensive on my first try. I was expecting it to have a low price like 200 but instead it's 260. Overall, the curry is absolutely delicious. It's really THAT delicious, hands down. I mean, it's just one meal and the next thing you know, you're already full. It's really that big. Kinda disappointing the place is a bit small but hey, it's really worth it if you ask me. I'd recommend the Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry for starters. What's good about here is that you get to pick the level of spiciness for the curry.

Best Japanese Curry ever!
I wish there's more branches around Makati :)
My fav is Shrimp Cutlet Curry..
Tho the shrimp cutlet is more smaller and the curry is lesser than the Japan one but at least it has the same taste.

I had my first cocoichibanya meal at HK, and i was delighted to know that there is rockwell branch. The resto is located at different building from the mall (just across), so the place is not to crowded. We ordered pork cutlet, curry noodle soup, and chicken gratin. I always loved coco's curry sauce because it suits asian taste -mild spice with a little sweetness. Generous serving and fast service. I dined with my family, after the meals were served, nakaka umay pala (esp the curry ramen). But, still loved the food.

I'm not fan of curry. But this one has the perfect flavor. I ordered the super spicy which true to what you asked for, its crazy spicy and I'm a guy who likes anything spicy.

Not sure though if I need to try the others in the menu, had the peri Peri Chicken curry, since I'm sure they all taste the same. Only difference would be whether its beef, pork, vegetables or shrimp

I was never a fan of curry until I came here! This place is perfect for cheese lovers as well. The patty with cheese inside had to my favorite because cheese oozes out of it ❤️ Portions are quite large so we tried getting their "merienda" portions but those were too small. Better to share bigger portions.

Awesome pork cutlet omelet curry (spicy level: 2).

Crispy breading on the outside but its a little thin compared to other katsu places. You could also ask to have the curry separated from the main dish.

Milk tea is good although they couldve added more milk.

Tastiest Curry!!!

Probably the best curry I've tasted. paired with the different protein pairings available, I was not able to resists eating rice (despite being on a diet back then). The servings are generous and for the pork cutlet and shrimp that we had, it was so perfect thus the extra rice as mentioned above =)

Loved our visit to this Coco ichibanya branch. I went for the Seafood Curry set with Tomato Soup and Salad. Went for level 4 - super hot - it was a bit hotter than I wanted - so level 3 next time. Seafood Curry was good with shrimp, squid and fish pieces. To add more variety I topped it with Pari Pari Chicken. Found it nice and crispy on the outside and tender inside. Was a good match with the seafood curry.

Soup and Salad were quite good too - small portions just right while waiting for your curry.

Ended with coffee jelly - nice not so sweet, typical Japanese dessert.

Worth a few more visits to check curries with other ingredients

We've always wanted to try their curry here and it didn't disappoint. I had the Sausage & Eggplant Curry and it was ❤. Even better is that for an additional 80php you can get two-scoop ice cream and soup of the day on the side. But I think this only applies to some of their meals.

Enjoyed the curry here and especially appreciated the ability to add to the dish. For example, you can order the basic curry and rice dish, then add vegetables, extra meat, or other items to it to "customize" your curry. Their ratings on the spiciness of the curries was a bit understated, as I ordered the "hot" curry, but had to add a lot of Japanese chili powder to make it hot! Next time I'll try their "super hot" category. Overall, clean, good food and a decent value.

I was ecstatic when I found out a legit curry house was coming to Manila so Coco Ichibanya is def a place that I've been wanting to try for quite some time now. I am an avid fan of Japanese curry and have been ever since I was a kid! My companion and I tried the one in One Rockwell. The interior alone had a very bright yet relaxing ambiance which made the wait more exciting. I ordered the Beef Omelet Curry while my companion ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry. Both dishes were spot on in terms of the consistency of the curry, taste, doneness of the rice as well as the spice level. Overall, Coco Ichibanya is a restaurant that I would return to, as it has mastered the art of curry that sends my tastebuds straight to Japan ❤️😍🇯🇵💛.

It was our first time here to eat here last night. I had the Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry and my boyfriend had the Hashed Beef Omelet. I have to say that their curry is definitely worth coming back for. It's not the kind that's "nakakaumay" which would make you unable to finish a plate filled with so much sauce. The cutlet was also crunchy, moist, and amazing. The Hashed Beef on the other hand had a sweet tone to its flavor, not sure if it's because of the white sauce and it also had a darker color compared to the usual curry but it doesn't mean it was any less than delicious. The thinly sliced beef in it was also tender.

The eggs that went with our meals were divine - perfect scrambled eggs. Also, at first I thought that the fixed 200g of rice that came with our meals weren't gonna be enough.. But I was wrong. Each dish was equally filling and enjoyable. :)

Looking forward to my next visit!

For the longest time, Japanese curries have always been so-so and a make-do order for me in Japanese restaurants. My favorites were always the Indian, Middle Eastern and Thai variants. But Coco Ichibanya  has changed my mind about Japanese curries. They are simply the best versions of Japanese curries I have ever tried, bar none. A nice bonus is their preserved plums (for lack of a better description) which is available free on the side. I found that adding a bit of it was a perfect match for every spoonful of their curry. Their coffee jelly was very good. I loved it that they use Sumiyaki coffee for the jelly part (this joint is owned by the UCC group) but was a bit disappointed that they only used ordinary vanilla ice cream with it. Prior to this, my all-time favorite coffee jelly was from Shinjuku. Their jelly is not as good as Coco's but their use of mantecado ice cream brings theirs to another level of yumminess.

We had the shrimp cutlet with spinach, piri-piri chicken with Japanese sausages, and mixed seafood/veggies with piri-piri chicken. All were great but the mixed seafood/veggies with chicken combo was the best for me! I had it prepared to their maximum spice level of # 5 and I *almost* couldn't take it  :)  So be warned! I avoided the pork and other breaded cutlets since I thought they would just be like those served in the many katsu restaurants out there. But I would say that the piri-piri chicken may well as be the best of their fried offerings. Hands-down, theirs is the best-tasting Japanese curry in Manila at this time. It's no small wonder that they have 1400 branches in Japan alone, with branches also in other Asia-Pacific countries.

You also get the option of having 200g or 300g (the regular size, or up to 600g, I think) of rice with your order. The former cheaper by P20. Service was excellent. Prices were a bit on the steep side. My seafood/veggies/chicken combo cost me P700 without drinks. This resto is definitely worth trying out and is surely on my "go back ASAP" list.

Coco Ichibanya finally opens in Rockwell. I've been anticipating eating there and today's the day. It is a place for Japanese Curry, their menu offers a variety of curry combos that range from meat, seafood, vegetables and omelette.

I ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry Mix. It's katsu with curry on the side and came along with potatoes and vegetables.

Ordering at Coco Ichibanya will entail a couple of steps. You first state your choice from the menu then staff will ask you how much rice you want with it. The range is from 200g to 600g. I chose the regular size which is 300g. Then you'll be asked for your preferred level of spiciness of your curry. The range is from mild to hot to crazy hot. I ordered the hot level as recommended by the staff to be midway. It was hot enough but still quite tolerable.

I was recently in Kobe, Japan and ordered the same thing but from a local eatery in the JR station. I can attest that my Coco Ichibanya curry set tastes exactly the same as what I had tried in Japan.

An indication of authenticity for me is the noticeable presence of a number Japanese expats dining in the place the same time I was there. It tells me that they're really familiar with Coco Ichibanya and the food is the way the Japanese like it to be.

Good ambience with attentive servers. I only ordered the pork cutlet curry with no extra toppings, but the flavor in itself was more than satisfying. The pork was perfectly crisp and the curry didn't have a cloying aftertaste. I'm not usually much of a curry fan, but this Japanese curry definitely changed my mind! It looks pricey but the servings are actually good for 2 people. It's the type of food you would really crave once in a while.
