We ordered the Valentine’s Pair Deal (Set 2) & it was bless. Especially the Manchego Crusted Lapu-Lapu?? Bihh I will always get that here if I could. I have yet to return & show a friend that dish cuz that cheesy crust was fi-yer. Even the lil potato buddies that came plated w the fish was a lil ball of flavor! Mmm mmm mmm. Thank you for that, Tapella! The rest of the dishes were fine but didn’t blow my mind quite as much as the delish manchego fish dish mm mmm. Bless.

In a few days this restaurant will turn 10yrs and i still keep on coming back because of the good food. Chuleton is a must-order. For me, they serve the best paella’s, my faves are the manchego paella and paella negra. Best selection of tapas too such as pulpo ala gallega, lapu lapu pilpil, chistorra, huevos and squid calamari. The only concern is that greenbelt 5 needs a lift and renovation already, very poor air conditioning and water leaks here and there.

They say good food is best served with good company – but we also believe that good company is best when they are being served with great food. Good thing that Tapella Bar and Restaurant got it covered for us. Several of our favourite people in the planet – our fellow food bloggers, gathered to taste the delectable dishes that Tapella Bar and Restaurant has to offer. With a total of 13 dishes served, we have totally enjoyed a Spanish Feast for the gods.

Happy to see that the place is still open because it's been years since we ate here. I'd look forward getting the same good-tasting beef salpicado and seafood paella, but would also want to try the new ones -- paella negra and truffle pasta. For sure both will not fail our appetite. Let's see if it still beats Rambla.

Always enjoy eating here. Good service and excellent Paella’s. The place has a nice cozy feel and not pretentious like a lot of restos in Greenebelt.

Took my pinay date (who is now my wife) here a long time ago, and have dropped by a few times since. Fantastic little tapas bar with decent wine selection. Liked the food, wine selection, and service overall MUCH better than Barcino in Greenbelt.

Good: Tapas. Wine. Service.
Okay: nothing really.
Bad: Traffic to get to Greenbelt.

Good work, Chef. Highly recommended.

Take your palette to the Basque region of Spain and head over to Tapella Bar and Restaurant. It’s a modern Spanish restaurant nestled within the confines of Greenbelt 5.

Each dish served by Chef JP was thoroughly explained. He shared with us the origin of each of the dishes, his inspirations, and where he sourced them. Their flavors familiar to every Filipino palette, yet each dish is refined with the use of Spanish and French techniques and ingredients that the Basque country is known for.
Tapella is a great place for date nights, family lunches or a nightcap with the girls.

I have yet to travel to Europe. But if there’s one country that’s non-negotiable in my travel bucketlist, it would definitely be Spain. Why? Well, yes I’ve heard about all of its dramatic fortifications, glistening coastlines, and splendid architecture. What excites me more though is all the good food it has to offer: tapas, sangria, croquettas, etc. And luckily for us, there’s a good of restaurants offering the best of Spanish flair around Metro Manila. But let me tell you this. Nothing comes close to the authentic Spanish Feast from Tapella Bar and Restaurant. Read on to know why.

Wondering how authentic Spanish cuisine tastes like? Look no further, Tapella has got you covered. They serve modern Spanish cuisine that you will surely love. Chef JP Ozamis, the man behind Tapella's menu. Before anything else, you are greeted and served their complimentary bread, soft and fresh. Here are some of my favorites from their Menu.

Whenever I think of Spanish Cuisine, wine and tapas always come into mind. Of course, paella and sangria is a must to try at any Spanish Restaurant. It’s always a grand and cozy experience when it comes to this cuisine. Tapella, which has been open for a couple of years now in Greenbelt, has been welcoming its diners to not only that kind of dining experience but also a royal one at that.

The ambiance was great. We went there for a quiet Sunday lunch. The service was fast and they told us the food would take some time to prepare. We got the Stewed Ox Tongue which was savory, the Black Paella and Seafood Paella. Squeeze a bit of lemon of both and it was really tasty. The best thing we had was the Chuleton Villagodio which was served raw and cooked on table side. I loved the way it was presented and it was amazing to see the raw meat to the cooked product. They sprinkled rock salt on the plate and cooked the meat medium rare the perfect meal for a beautiful Sunday

The ambience was nice, though I find it basic. Drinks were nice too. Nice place for afternoon cocktails. May I suggest that you get rid of the paper? It ruins the whole vibe of the place. It breaks with water contact and it becomes messy and that's a turn off.

Greenbelt location does not help to create a particularly interesting atmosphere. Decor is fine although nothing exceptional. Service is good. We first tried some seafood tapas especially octopus that were fine although not so authentic. On another occasion we tried seafood paella and this was a disppointment. You cant cook rice and seafood separatelly otherwise the taste is not the same infeed. Olive oil is also a must and boiled eggs is a no go
Hope they learn. Price wise the place is quite reasonable.

Laid back ambiance, quick service, good food and the value for your money is there.

Got the Seafood Paella (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) which was super nice. While waiting for the paella to come out, tried the Spicy Chorizo (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and the Potato Omelette with Crab Meat (⭐️⭐️⭐️) as tapas.

My friends and I enjoyed a very nice evening at this resto-bar.  We got a table outside, close to the bar, and close enough to groove to DJ Elian's house music.  Most of the food we ordered were good:  Grilled spicy chorizo, Deep fried baby squid with aoili (even if the garlic wasn't strong enough), and chicken liver terrine.
We didn't like the Huevos estrellados con jamon y pimientos.  The combination just didn't taste good.
We got a pitcher of sangria. It was refreshing, though I didn't feel any kick from it.
Service was very good for such a busy night.  Our server was attentive and friendly.
For 3 of us, our bill came up to about PHP 1,600+.

Chuleton and paella with sangria--always our favorite. Excellent service by janell who effortlessly served five of us paella while cooking the chuleton at the table for us. Chef Rob was also very kind to give my kids a tour of the kitchen after hearing them enjoying their meal with gusto. Having just come from Japan and going on a Kobe, matsusaka and hakata beef food trip, I have to say, the chuleton at tapella stands its ground with its own unique "beefness" and flavor.

Tapas are meant to be appetizers as the paella cooks. The cooking time for paella can range from thirty minutes to possibly an hour. By that time it was done, a diner could have already sampled a multitude of other dishes.

I prefer just digging into the tapas, because a few of those can already constitute a full meal. Not to mention that a diner could request for a new basket full of bread to be brought over to the table. It even comes with a dip of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Old favorites include chorizos speared with toothpicks, gambas with heaps of garlic on top, as well as fried baby squid with lemon and aioli sauce, among others.

Diners can also enjoy a wide variety of alcoholic drinks to go with the rich tapas, from local beers, to wine, and even to sangria. I'll just stick to soft drinks and water, please. I like to keep all my senses sharp as I enjoy my food.

The ambiance of the restaurant is laid-back, and is perfect for a lunchout with officemates or dinner date with friends.
Favorites are Muslos De Pollo Frito (Php 250.00), a generous plate of chicken lollipop perfect for sharing. Also, the Chopitos Fritos (Php 250.00) was a classic deep fried baby squid covered with alioli. This was recommended by our food server Choco. This was a perfect “papak” for a friends’ gathering, paired with their favorite beer or wine drink.

Their paellas Arroz Manchego (Php 775.00), Paella De Marisco (Php 700.00), Arroz Sobrassada (Php 375.00) were also stars of the night.

Tapella is a Spanish restaurant which takes pride of its roots. I can think of three reasons why you should drop by at Tapella. First, the ambiance is a great place to unwind, with a luxurious vibe. Second, you may want to get a glimpse of their charming chef, Chef Robert Spakowski. And lastly, they have the best tapas (appetizer) for a good price.

Me and fellow foodies went to Tapella to meet Chef Spakowski. My top picks that night are the following: Huevos Con Morcilla Sisig, Chuleton Villagodio, their chorizo tapas and of course their paellas.

Good ambience, service was a little slow but the nice attitude of the waiters make up for it.
The black paella and stewed ox tongue were the runaway winners, the others we ordered (the appetizers - gambas and chorizo, seafood paella, crispy chicken) were just okay.
I would definitely come back for the black paella and ox tongue and maybe try the other tapas

I was walking along Greenbelt 5 one hungry lunch time heading towards Tapella not really knowing what to expect from this Spanish restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by the wait staff and was seated at the comfy far end. And then a tall, very foreigner looking chef approached me.  As I was scrambling for my English, he spoke Tagalog. And that was the start of an interesting conversation.

Pretty good place for a night cap when you're in the area. Their sisig, sausage and egg on a bed of shoe string potatoes is a must try! I used to frequent Gaudi for their steak and paella back when they were still in Serendra. I'm disappointed with the decrease in quality of the latter. There weren't that many chorizos in the paella and the flavor seemed to be a little off. Their drinks make up for it in terms of alcohol content though!

Even if we have been colonized by the Spaniards for more than 300 years, authentic tasting Spanish dishes are a rarity, at least in Metro Manila.  There are two restaurants that I am pretty happy with the quality of the food and the service: Casa Roces and Tapella by Gaudi

Tapella by Gaudi which is located at Greenbelt 5 in Makati has Robert Spakowski as its executive chef.  He was one of the finalists of AFC's Food Hero challenge. You can either have yourself seated inside the restaurant where's their air conditioning, or you can choose to dine al fresco.

Here are the dishes that I highly recommend you try:

1.  Tortilla Abierta con Chorizo which is an open-face omelette with crispy tasty chorizo.  One of the most delicious omelettes I have had so far.

2.  Salpicao a mi Manera - Garlicky delicious salpicao with flavorful fork tender beef.  Simply delicious!

3.  The Paellas - When you are in restaurant that serves Spanish dishes, I mean what do you make sure you try?  Their paellas of course.  Paella Negra (paella in squid ink) and their Paella de Cocido (a mix of flavorful Spanish meats and colorful vegetables)

4.  Chuleton de Villagodio or the Grilled Rib Villagodio Style is quite a culinary experience.  Prime meat with just a sprinkling of salt that you cook yourself (cooked in an earthenware with a portable stove) is something you should not miss.  Seriously melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

Since my family asked me where do I want to eat for dinner, I finally had the chance to try this place.

We ordered so much but we surprisingly finished every dish. Their Gambas was my favorite. I've tasted Gambas from different restos around Manila but theirs was just perfect. Their Sisig is a must-try! I'm not a Sisig fan but when I go try good restos, I try everything we order. My favorite part was when they served the Paella Valenciana I've been waiting for. I have been craving for it for weeks so I just couldn't contain my excitement. It was filled with delish toppings that makes the entire dish very pleasant to taste.

Lastly, for dessert, I ordered Tarta Con Lava De Chocolate. Great-tasting lava cake! Best way to end my night.

Tapella in Greenbelt is a tapas and paella restaurant that offers Basque, Catalan, and Castillan cuisine. The food took me back to my visits to Spain.

Food servings are small, like tapas, but definitely delicious, and filling. When you think how small those servings are to fill a group of hungry people, you'd end up ordering too much like we did but find difficulty in finishing it at the end. Their menu is limited but taste is better than most Spanish restaurant in its area. Since we are a group of 14, we virtually ordered everthing on the menu:

Basque Chorizo - a simple tapas with homemade chorizo sausage on a pool of red colored sauce. Flavorful, simple, and a great snack to start.

Fried egg on potatoes with crispy Serrano ham and peppers - I love eggs and the combination of the four ingredients pops in your mouth. It is kind of oily though, unless you co sider olive oil to be healthy. :-) Probably one of my favorite tapas.

Gambas al ajillo - very nice presentation on this sauteed shrimp on garlic. My mother's favorite and my aunt was asking me how they cook it.

Lamb Stew, the Andalusian way - diced lamb chunks that are tender and cooked with green bell peppers with sauce.

Ham, Salami and cheese croquettes - one of the best croquettes I have ever tried! Small, delicious, and filling...its like munching on chicken poppers, but better.

Spanish Tortilla Omelette - cooked the way how I ate it in Barcelona. Filling and delicious. And since I know how it is made, I really didn't eat much of it. ;-)

Paella Mariscos - seafood paella. Real arborio rice cooked in flavorful seafood broth. Rice is cooked between raw and cooked, tasted better than my favorite paella resto. The downside of this is that all the mussels in the dish are closed...either uncooked properly or the mussels are not fresh.

Paella Negra - black paella where the rice is entirely covered in squid ink. Best eaten with aioli. One of the better paella negra I had, even compared to Spain. Won't feel irritated on the tongue after eating it.

Paella Cordero - lamb paella with shiitake mushrooms. If you are a lamb-lover, this dish is for you. The aroma and flavor of lamb is coated in every grain of the arborio rice. The mushroom gave it an earth flavor.

Pasta con Chorizo - I was surpriaed by the turn out of this dish as I was expecting at simple apaghetti with pieces of sausage (imagine kiddie spaghetti with hotdog), but the ground chorizo mixture was a burst of flavors and the tomato sauce was a delight to the taste buds. Pasta is cooked al dente. I would prefer this over Pasta Bolognese anytime.

Pan-fried chicken breast stuffed with serrano ham and manchego cheese - their version of a chicken cordon bleu, served with a side salad. Best part is chicken is not dry.

Mini hamburgers of angus beef patty - Good for 2. Juicy patties. Yummy!

Calamares or fried squid rings - the worst dish of the niight. Squid is rubbery and bland. Not a good experience eating this as it is like chewing gum.

El Cerdo - pork skewers or what we Filipinos often call barbecue. Meaty chunks of pork, flavor is very Arabic, tasted much like the skewers sold in Mongolia. Spiced and good.

I wish we really had everything, but then again, there we won't have any good reason to go back except enjoy the good food. Looking forward to visit again soon.

Another classic that's not to be missed in Greenbelt is Tapella by Gaudi.  Here you can find a menu that ranges from Basque, Catalan to Castillian flavors.  Regional cuisines from Spain that are to die for.  Be assured that ingredients are not scrimped and flavors of the dishes will definitely make up your worst day.

Let me suggest these dishes to you:

A Basque cuisine is certifiably known for tomatoes and sweet or hot red peppers, the purrusalda (Basque potato and leek soup) is a tasty combo pair, followed by the freshest assorted greens--ensalada de la casa (tossed greens drizzed with house dressing).

And for the much-awaited main course, it’s an amazingly tender and generous serving of estofado de cordero (lambstew with potatoes),not a fan of lamb? Then have abonito con tomate (fresh tuna in tomato and pepper sauce) a diet-friendly option of refreshing tuna drizzled with tomato and peppercorns.

To cap off the meal, it’s a decadent serving of arroz con leche (creamy rice pudding with cinnamon) velvety and thick, this will surely leave the palate asking for another plate.

Andalucia of the South is something not to be missed too. The historic Islamic influence in its cuisine gives this region a unique culinary identity with the use of olive oil, garlic, and wine as the most important native ingredients.

For a truly appetite-inducing starter, croquetas variadas dos salsa (mushroom, salami, and ham croquetas with romesco and alioli dip) is a favorite delicacy brimming with rich palatable dip. The soup, is an interesting take on tomatoes— gazpacho (fresh tomato and vegetable soup) served cold but delightfully heartwarming. The salad is truly Mediterranean in taste as it is filled with healthy greens and other freshest produced.

Another go-to place for some wine and tapas. I can say am a regular here and what keeps me coming back are, of course, the food, ambiance, and service. Their beef salpicao is exemplary. Soft and succulent beef cutlets topped with roasted garlic. Another fave is their Paella Valenciana. You just have to bear the wait, but it's super worth it. Very generous in serving and toppings. Almost all the crew including the manager know us and would easily fix our spot and serve our fave red wine. Asking for extras like bread or whatever is not hard to reach. Truly one of the best places to dine with friends.

Went there in Wednesday evening by 9pm. Took an outside table.
Started off with two types of red wine sangria - Rico J which is stronger and Don Roberto which is sweeter. Both looked the same and were quite delicious with Don Roberto winning the taste battle.
Next came the Moroccan chicken skewers which was quite tasty with a good crispy texture. And the Beef Salpicado - really tender chunks of beef floating in a garlicky olive oil. Great taste too. Mopped up the olive oil with bread from our complimentary bread basket!
For mains we had the Rice with Chicken And Veggies done in the Valencia way. This is really paella with chicken. Tasted fantastic too!
All in all, a very satisfying dinner at Tapella

There’s quite an absence of good Spanish restaurants in my regular rotation lately, so when I received an invite to visit Tapella by Gaudi in Greenbelt 5, Makati to test out dishes by Executive Chef Robert Spakowski, I felt excited about Spanish cuisine again. :) Tapella specializes in tapas and paella.

We came in for lunch and after the end of the meal, I can say that all the food we tried were solid and reasonably priced. Items on the improved menu are not a crazy departure from familiar Spanish plates but are just more interesting.

I have a love-hate relationship with salads, and Tapella’s Mixed House Salad Drizzled With Special Dressing (Ensalada Tapella) (PhP 200) fell somewhere in between. Usually for me, salads are not exactly a can’t-miss-item from the menu, but it’s worth to mention that the ingredients of this house salad formed a good combination not just on the plate but also in the stomach. Mixed up with olives and corn kernels, the lettuce leaves were well seasoned with the dressing, ought to help you survive the meat and heavy rice dishes later.

The Octopus with Paprika, Sea Salt, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Pulpo a la Gallega) (PhP 525) may look like a large order and intended for sharing between a group, but sometimes you need to overindulge a bit even for a party of two. As the star, the octopus was delicate and tasty, fork tender and not at all chewy.

Fluffy and generous with filling, the Open Faced Omelette with Chorizo (Tortilla Abierta con Chorizo) (PhP 235) was wicked good, one of the best versions of omelette I’ve ever had.

As something to whet the appetite, the Garlic Sauteed Shrimps (Gambas al Ajillo) (PhP 325) would be an excellent choice. It’s basically shrimps in garlic. What could go wrong? The shrimps tasted great and simple enough. I also noticed how the dishware was beautiful and meticulously selected for the course.

Another appetizing dish was the tender and juicy Basque Chorizo Sausage (Chistorra Vasca) (PhP 235). The chorizo sausages in oil were packed in so much flavor that eating a piece will make you reach for some bread for plate cleanup.

Next, we had Croquettes of Ham, Salami, and Mushroom (Croquettes Variadas) (PhP 175)—crispy turnovers with a variety of fillings. They looked great as finger food so I ditched the utensils to get proper-sized mouthfuls. Tapella’s croquettes were a bit salty and comforting wrapped into one.

As pitch-black as coal, the Squid with Black Ink Batter (Calamares, el Bulli) (PhP 385) was cooked well, however I didn’t think there’s anything distinctly special to it other than how it looked differently from the regular fried squid in golden brown color. Simply put, there was no hint of complex flavor from the squid ink.

Beef Salpicado, Chef’s Way (Salpicado a Mi Manera) (PhP 375) was oily but very delicious, so it would be hard to turn it down. I bet the chef used the juiciest morsel and used the choicest cut of beef for this.

If there’s one item that you can order with confidence at Tapella by Gaudi, it’s their Prime Rib Grilled Villagodio Style (Chuleton de Villagodio) (PhP 300/100g). Arriving on a clay dish heated by a burner on the table, the certified prime angus beef that’s only speckled with sea salt and quickly seared to preferred doneness was a revelation. Yes, it was really good! For steak lovers, it can be impossible to eat it without making faces of satisfaction. This piece of meat hits home, a rightfully celebrated stroke of “steak genius.”

Now, featuring the different kinds of paella…The Black Paella (Paella Negra) (PhP 595) was not the most outstanding, but it’s a special treat that can be best paired with gambas. I just thought that a variety of seafood to complement the squid ink would make a better contrast rather than chopped squid alone.

Soft and risotto-like, Rice with Chicken and Vegetables, the Valencia Way (Arroz a la Valenciana) (PhP 450) came as a one-dish meal of poultry and veggies. For the most part, the bell peppers’ taste was responsible for the depth of flavor. Give it a shot if that sounds good to you.

Made with elements that create appealing color, Paella de Cocido (Cocido Paella) (PhP 400) was loaded with a good assortment of meat and vegetables as well. It’s a must-try, as it’s one of the national dishes of Spain.

Out of all the paella we tasted, Chicken, Asparagus, Shrimp, and Manchego Cheese Paella (Arroz Manchego) (PhP 675) was the best! I’m all for seafood and veggies any day, and this rice dish blew my mind a bit—with cheese on top! I’m counting down the days till I can get another. :P

After tasting the previous winning paella, the Seafood Paella (Paella de Marisco) (PhP 600) failed in comparison. It was still good but not one I would be thinking about for days to come.

For desserts, we had Tarta con Lave de Chocolate (PhP 150). It was sinful, with warmed rich chocolate oozing out of the cake. Checking all the criteria of a good chocolate lava cake, this was indeed calories worthy.

Smooth and luscious, the Leche Flan (PhP 75) was equally enjoyable. It was creamy but still firm.

Drawing contrast from the traditional leche flan, Bacon from the Sky (Tocino del Cielo) (PhP 75) from South of Spain was thicker and it was made with a whole bunch of egg yolks, sugar, and water (and not whole eggs, milk or cream as in leche flan).

If you like cheesecake, go get the Tarta De Queso Dulce De Leche (PhP 150). A heavenly marriage flan and cheesecake, this dessert was so yummy that I could hardly resist the indulgence. :)

We washed all the food down with cocktail drinks: Ronin Lychee Sangria (PhP 295) (sake with lychee) and Don Roberto Sangria (PhP 225) (red sangria with red wine and fruits that have been marinated for 24 hours). Both sangrias tasted bright, refreshing, and fruity, but I prefer the red over the white.

If you’re looking for some good Spanish comfort food in Makati, I suggest you hit Tapella by Gaudi right quick for a hearty pile of food with tons of different flavor going on.

My Tapella experience was unexpectedly good. it's like eating food that my mom or relatives cooked on occasions, especially the spanish chorizo paella and the chorizo stewed in red wine.

When i had my first taste of the paella, i want to just have it for myself; It's like coming home through a meal. :) The other dishes were good too but im pretty hooked to the paella & stew at that time (as you may have noticed!) ;)

Anyway, the ambiance of the place is pretty laid back and food price is on a reasonable range. i initially expected them to be a bit pricey since they're in Greenbelt but they arent. If you plan to have dinner here, you gotta show up early to have a nice table otherwise you'll be placed in a spot where your phone's flash will be put to test. ;)

I always look forward to my highschool barkada’s annual christmas dinner because that’s the only time I see most of them since it’s pretty difficult to gather all of us due to conflicting schedule and distance. This year, we decided to have a Spanish dinner. Hence, we chose Tapella. Just a short trivia: my friends and I have this inside joke of choosing Teriyaki Boy whenever we’re short of restaurants to try because we always go there as if it is the only existing restaurant way back in highschool.

Croquetas Variades (P175) We were served ham, salami and mushroom croquettes and some croquettes taste on the salty side while others come in a slightly sweet form.

Cazuela de Pollo Iberico con patatas, belcon y champinones (P295) This entrantes belongs to Chef Robert’s Christmas Creations. I really wanted to try his version of fresh oysters but my amigas don’t eat oysters so we ended up trying their chicken casserole. This main course cooked in Iberian way is very satisfying and flavorful. Add to that the baby potatoes and button mushrooms.

Gambas al Ajilo (P325) This famous spanish dish won my heart. It is a little bitin since each of us is only entitled to one piece. I love that they loaded this dish with lots of garlic. The shrimp acquired the strong taste of garlic which pretty much suits my liking.

Paella Negra (P595) This black paella is my favorite. The taste of squid ink is present but not too strong. Just the way I like it. Squeezing lemons on top and adding a spoonful or two of sour cream is the best way to eat it.

Arroz Manchego (P675) This chicken, asparagus, shrimp and manchego cheese paella landed as my 2nd favorite paella. It wasn’t as cheesy as I hoped for it to be but I adore it since it has my favorite veggies.
