Elbert's has a small but solid circle of fans. This is my second time here and in both occasions I ordered the same thing - Steak ala Tapa. The salad was normal. The meat was for most part tender as there were some chewy bits around the edges. The slice was just right thickness to simulate tapa but you can still tell it came from steak part. You won't need a lot of effort to slice. You will need to hold back on rice though as the serving can easily be good for two cups of rice. Friendly tip - there is no parking and you definitely need to reserve to get a table as the place can be full during peak time.
This is one in the books. The steak is easy to chew and all the veggies are fresh in spite eating at dinner.
I ordered USDA Prime grade Ribeye and it was worth it! For the side dish, I had baked potato with sour cream, bacon bits, and chives which was perfect as well. Definitely worth the price.
The restaurant is on the third floor of the building. The staircase going up has a bit of mysterious feels. Once you go inside the steak room, the place is quite romantic and warm. They only have a few tables so make sure to get a reservation.
Their menu is quite simple. They have a set menu, and you just have to choose the choice of steak and side dish.
For the appetizers, we got the ravioli with a hint of foie gras, salad with balsamic vinegar, and asparagus soup.
We got the T-bone porterhouse, "super" cut rib-eye and the rib-eye. The "super" rib-eye is said to be more tender and juicier. We got medium rare, medium, and medium well. Medium rare is definitely juicier and softer, though it's kind of difficult to cut the meat compared to medium and medium well. Their steak may not be extra ordinary, but it is worth it, and not disappointing.
For our side dish, we got the risotto, truffle mashes potato (yum!), tagliatelle in truffle sauce (also superb!), and creamy spinach.
Lastly, there's always room for desserts. We got a platter of desserts, namely, the blueberry cheesecake, mango crepe, panna cotta, and chocolate mousse.
Bonus: We also got a chocolate birthday cake!
The service is accommodating and not disappointing. The server makes sure that you have everything you need.
Sadly, I wasn't able to take a photo of all the food.
Prime and delicious steaks. Consistent in the excellent service and perfection in how they cook their steaks. Also I like the fact that this place is hidden and only known to few. They also do not advertise but only known by word of mouth. It’s been one of the original steakhouses in Manila, probably just then only one, which had not shut down and continued its business. If you wanna know the reason why, you must try it!
Back in grade school, my english teacher instructed our class to write about the best meal of our life. I wrote about my first visit to Elbert’s Steak Room.
Over ten years later, Elbert’s is still the best meal of my life.
I’ve gone here many times to celebrate special occassions such as birthdays with my family. The staff has mastered the art of running a fine dining restaurant. This hole in the wall is an absolute escape, like falling into a wardrobe leading to Narnia. Everything here is about perfection. I distinctly recall how vast the white table we are always seated at is. Their glasses have a cool shape, and drinking water becomes really delicious.
Onto the food. The service bread—an Elbert’s signature for me—is an absolute treat, naturally puffed into perfectly sized pull-off pieces. Paired with the soft butter, the bread is the perfect starter. We were offered fresh oysters straight from Roxas, off the menu. These oysters were served with rock salt, vinegar, and tomato sauce. They were the fattest and freshest oysters I’d ever had. It was a bite of the beach; and the oysters taste as if they were kissed by the bright sun on the beaches of Roxas in Palawan.
This was followed by their signature salad: crisp mixed greens and sweet cherry tomatoes with the perfect drizzle of vinaigrette and walnuts. Upon finishing our salads, our soup was served. Their cream of asparagus is a mainstay, creamy, spicy, yet never too thick.
For the main event, our steaks were served. These are the crown jewels of Elbert’s Steak Room. I have ordered two kinds of steak here—the ribeye and the striploin. The ribeye of Elbert’s Steak Room delivers what will always be the peak enjoyment of my taste buds. Elbert’s has achieved the perfect balance of seasoning and cooking for their steaks. Their is a perfect char and buttery crust. Every bite is juicy fat with tender meat.
Recently, I have opted for the leaner and more balanced meat-fat ratio in the striploin, colloquially known as the New York strip. It surprises me how the striploin is easier to eat than the ribeye. While the ribeye is all about pure meat decadence—it’s designed to deliver maximum punch on its own—the striploin is a slightly more mature order that lends breathing space for the wine and the side dishes. Nonetheless, the striploin is just as soft as the ribeye and is surprisingly easier to cut. Again, this steak is crafted with perfection, never too hulking as to hit the right spot in the stomach.
Speaking of side dishes, I used to order duck fat potato wedges—crispy with the right gleam of brown and gold. Now, I’m back to Elbert’s creamed spinach: which got me into the wonders of creamed spinach. We like their pomme frittes too, with a guilty side request of tomato ketchup.
Each dinner meal ends with a tasting course of dessert and tea or coffee. Their chocolate pudding in a golden biscuit cup has, for a decade, been the perfect closer to a perfect meal.
First time to go and I will definitely be back. We ordered the USDA prime grade ribeye and it was excellent. The soup, salad and wine were the perfect complement. Suggest to dim even for a bit the lights by the wall. They were too warm and it felt like I was under a spotlight.
Been there 3 times now, ordered the same cuts and each time the steak is consistently and perfectly cooked to medium rare......it’s that good!! 👍 Quality of the meat is simply excellent.
Our server—Arnel Dela Cruz—was cheerful, very polite but not overbearing or stifling and definitely added to the enjoyable experience.
We had oysters baked and fresh for starters and ordered the super prime ribeye and the double gold filet mignon. The ribeye was very flavorful and just nice with marbling while the filet mignon was “melt in your mouth”, soft.
My family who often find medium rare meats “a bit icky” because of the rareness/blood had no issues at all and really enjoyed the juicy and flavorful meat. We had a great time and would highly recommend Elbert’s without any reservation. I am already plotting my 4th visit....😋😋
I’ve had many steaks around the world and this is second only to a heavenly slice of Inari steak that I had in Fukuoka. Enjoy!!
The steak is good and the portion is huge. The only downside to this place is the price. But given the size of the steak, it really is worth it. Ambience is also private and cozy.
I was with my Mom the last time I ate here. Amazing ambiance! I ordered the USDA Choice grade Porterhouse Shortloin while my side dish was porcini mushroom risotto. It was so huge I had to take it home. I got home pretty full and ecstatic.
One of the best steak restaurants in Manila. Steak was cooked to perfection. Seasoning spot on. Sear on steak with minimal grays. Excellent proactive service. Must go!
This restaurant is superb, topnotch, and highly recommended. Although their steaks come with a hefty price, it does not disappoint. They serve huge, juicy and flavorful slabs of steaks with awesome choices for side dishes. We tried the USDA "Super" Prime grade Ribeye as this was the recommended steak by one of their servers, and it was just delicious. I had it medium well and it matched to my expectations. My side dish was the tagliatelle with truffle cream sauce and my oh my, it was better than any other truffle pasta I have ever tasted. Their desserts were unexpectedly delicious too! The ambiance was great as we were celebrating an early Christmas dinner together and the servers were very attentive to our needs. I would gladly dine here again (when we have this much cash to spare). But we were lucky to dine here since this dinner was just a gift to us! Thank you for the experience! 😊
Had dinner here last Wed. Expensive but worth the bucks! The house salad & pumpkin soup were just fine. For main, got the super grade rib eye w/ a side of tagliatelle in truffle cream sauce. YUM! The pics says it all. They gave us complimentary dessert, yum as well!
Ordered the Striploin NY cut and it was really good on its own without any sauce.
The price was too expensive though for the steak. I've tried another famous steak place that offers the same experience and taste at a more reasonable price.
The smoked oyster was delicious. Salad was mediocre, and the same could also be said for the soup. But the steak made up for those two; definitely worth the money and you really do get what you pay for.
The best med rare steak experience!! #powerlunch queen's cut prime rib (winner!!), pumpkin soup (warmed up my appetite), soft baked bread as a starter, dessert (a sweet finish) and coffee to top it off...Left the place with a happy tummy!!
You get what you pay for in terms of food quality, service and ambiance. Been here a few times already and I'd still choose it over a lot of the newer steak places in the country any day.
It is indeed one of the best steak house in Makati, the steaks are done perfectly , the way you want it, flavorful and juicy. The place is quiet, clean and guests are private. The staff are polite, diligent and attentive. On the pricey side but it is worth your money.
Still one of the best steak places for me..hidden and really quality steaks and cooked perfectly. Its almost 100usd per plate but always worth it! The location and privacy of this place gives it an ambiance for exclusivity. Love this fillet mignon with seared foie gras always good and top it wit good wine.
Despite the explosion of new restaurants and so many of them high end American influenced or straight American sourced, the prime rib here is still best in the country. For their other steaks, competition has caught up and there are equivalent or better options now. A few of the newer steakhouses have adopted modern US storage and aging systems and better logistics and sourcing which produce a superior product to Elbert's older, unchanged process. However, you walk out of these new steakhouses with a P15k+/person bill not including wine. In this regard, Elbert's is actually the cheaper option today and is the value choice, if it can be believed.
My first visit to Elbert's was a long time ago. I am from NYC born and raised and when I moved to Asia the thing I was constantly craving was quality beef. I quickly discovered that, no matter if I was in Singapore, China or here, Australian beef is not up to American standards and, outside of Japan, no one seemed to knew how to import and properly age high quality US beef (note: much improvement in this regard now but Australian beef is still terrible).
By sheer luck, after a rant about beef in the Philippines at an anniversary party, I was invited to come to Elbert's where I was promised top end, properly aged US beef. On my first visit, I told my then girlfriend this place looks like a dump. There is no elevator, the stairs are external and they look like the stairs of a boarding house in Pasig. Fast forward to 2016 (I was there last in October) and nothing has changed. When you walk up to this restaurant, you better not have knee problems and you will not be impressed.
Once you enter its like night and day. If the outside says Pasig boarding house, the inside says classical European upscale. Nothing incredibly impressive or out of the ordinary, but classically beautiful, warm, cozy and comfortable. What I appreciate most is each table is afforded some privacy, which is a disappearing concept in modern dining here. I no longer eat here as much as I used to, as I am no longer in Makati, but I still try and swing by every few months.
This place serves one of the best steaks in Makati of not metro manila. Initially I thought the place is really expensive but when I get to eat the portions I would say it is just right. They portions of steaks this place serves comparable to the one served by Frankie and Johnnie's in NYC.
Note: If you are the type who is looking for some charring this may not be the right place for you. Steaks here are cooked in a pre heated broiler to make the perfect medium rare.
A place where a 40yr old guy can go to, not get hassled, smoke cigars, drink fine scotch, chew the fat with like minded guys in their career and feel totally at ease. Bar food was great. There was a restaurant upstairs but I didn't go. Bar was fine for me. This might not be everyone's 5star experience, but for a guy like me, 5star all the way. A place where I can live weekly and feel at ease. Next Friday... Or Saturday... Visiting again.
My favorite steakhouse in Manila. Always fun and delicious and the service team is exceptional. Well-run and nice ambiance....sorta hidden and I hope it stays that way.
The husband and I had a nice dinner at Elbert's which is one of his favorite restaurants. I'm not really much of a beef eater, so luckily, Elbert’s has a seafood option available. Their prawns were well seasoned and went well with the smooth, truffle mashed potato. The husband, as usual, was very happy with his large, juicy slab of steak (cooked medium) with a tall side of fries.
Me and my boyfriend are steak lovers. We even have a #Steakescapade hashtag in instagram where in we really try different steaks around the metro.
Last Valentine's Day we had another reason to dine and then of course, eat Steak!
Traffic was already expected and so we went to makati at an earlier time.
We planned our Elbert's a month before Valentine's and reserved our table a week before the ocassion.
We were both excited! Once we entered the sliding door and was seated.
We got the corner for the lover's table where it will be a bit secluded from the rest! (Yay!)
We were courteously greeted by the crew. Gave us the Menu and served their complimentary bread and butter.
We ordered the Dinner Menu.
each steak order includes a house salad and a choice of soup.
The house salad was fresh with arugula, lettuce, palm heart, tomotoes, avocado, bell peppers and simple ginger dressing.
Soup: pumpkin soup for me and Chicken soup for him
Mains: USDA certified Filet Mignon for me with additional Foie Gras with Balsamic Port Glaze then USDA "Super" prime grade Ribeye for him
Sides: Duck fat potato wedges for him and Baked potato with sour cream, bacon bits and chives for me.
We also ordered Red Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon
Had coffee after and was also served complimentary dessert: Best Chocolate mousse and Mango crepe
Everything went perfectly! From the Ambiance to the Food! Thank you, Chef Elbert! Steaks were juicy and delicious! And of course Comolimets to the chef for the simple yet wonderful dessert creations!
First of all, I'm glad that my partner introduced this superb restaurant to me. We always celebrate our special occasions in here. They have a romantic ambiance. Their food is great! With a price range of 5k to almost 7k, you'll definitely get what you deserve. From their appetizers up to their complimentary dessert, you won't regret a thing. Their steak is super juicy compare to other steak houses. Truly a wonderful experience!
Finally went to this steakhouse after a visit many years ago. 4.0 essentially reflects my opinion that the steaks, while good, are overpriced. I'd rate the steaks at House of Wagyu Stone Grill and Madison Street Bistro as equal or even better and at lower prices.
Rating aside, you should visit this restaurant at least once if you can afford to shell out the big bucks. The ambiance is classy with wood-paneled and leather interiors. And there were at least a couple of celebrities (including a news anchor) dining when we were there.
We had the prime rib and the filet mignon. I liked the filet mignon better. It had lovely marbling and melt-in-the-mouth texture. The prime rib in au jus was good too. The steaks come as a set meal with house salad and choice of soup. The salad was quite tasty. Soup choices were pumpkin and garlic. Soups were ok.
With our steaks we were given a sampler of the 3 sauces - bearnaise, bordelaise and green peppercorn. This was a nice touch and kept the steak juicy and yummy till the end. Another thing I like about the place is that all steaks are served medium rare - which I feel is the best way to eat good steak.
They also gave us a dessert sampler plate complimentary for sharing.
After dinner we moved to the 2nd floor where they have a cigar and single malt room (taking over after Kipling at Mandarin Oriental closed). This section is open until 2am, while the steak room takes its last order at 9.30pm
My husband took me at Elbert's for pur date night. We both Love to eat meat. I ordered a T-bone staek and he ordered the Super New York strip loin. The steaks were huge, specially mine. The steaks were both an inch thick and they were cooked perfectly! The ambiance was very romantic and waiters did well. The only reason why I gave it a 4.5 rating is that when we first arrived the manager gave us a table in the corner that is dark and the table was small. My husband asked to be transferred since he is a big man and we didn't want to eat in the dark. There were two tables that was empty but she said it was reserved already...But she let us move after looking at their reservations booklet. Other than that small incident the food was awesome! Oh and I forgot their bread that they give beforehand was so soft. It was also awesome!
Soooo goood!
When we arrived. Was a bit surprised of the price. But when the food arrived, it was worth it! So yummy!!
I wouldve given 5pts but my fries were too salty. Apart from that, everything was great!
This is USDA beef at its finest and served in surroundings that would be comparable to eating in the comfort of your own home. With that said, the service, decor and wine selection is above reproach. Great job, don't ever change.
Best steak! Best burger! The staff is very friendly. Great place to spend any special occassion with special people!
Hands down the best steakhouse in Manila. Love the intimacy and service levels!
We decided to celebrate my Dad's Birthday in this Restaurant.
The steaks are USDA certified and imported from Wisconsin. They perfected how to cook the steak in a juicy and tasty manner. Although, I must admit that it wouldn't compare to a Rib-Eye wagyu experience at. But you go to Elbert's for the privacy, cozy interiors, and warm company by Elbert himself. You'll be surprised how a once call center office was transformed to one of the coolest steak place hide out in Makati. Thanks to the architectural genius of Noel Bernardo of Elite Concepts who is credited for the visionary concept of the famous Lan Kwai Fong restaurant in China. Currently, it can only serve a 3 tables and maximum of 12 people. The vision is to have a maximum capacity of 50 by adding 2 tables of 8, a private function room for 10 people and a lovers table.
Simply, you go to Elbert's for that special occasion where money is not an issue and you pay for the memorable experience with your special some one.
Right now, it is strictly steak menu. Special request may be accommodated upon reservation especially if someone in your group would prefer fish. I can't imagine a vegetarian eating in this kind of place. The steak dinner includes the house salad and a choice of soup. They change their soup menu everyday.
The tomato soup taste like liquified natural tomatoes. It needs to be served warm. I like the mussel cream soup because of its after taste and right consistency in the cream.
The house salad was fresh with arugula, lettuce, palm heart, tomotoes, avocado, bell peppers and simple ginger dressing. Currently, they have a limited set of wine (Elbert's Room Wine List). We ordered the La Joya Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Rib Eye is almost 1-inch thick and usually comes in 300gms+.
We were glad to get a sauce sampler. The best for us are peppercorn, red wine & shallots, and the mushroom cream. The chimichurri is one of the most requested which is the green one in the middle, a cilantro-based sauce.
New York Strip: Grilled USDA prime striploin.
As requested by my mom we ordered Steamed Salmon. Thanks for accommodating her request! My mom said it was very good but expensive.
We ordered Angel Hair Pomodoro as a side dish. This comes in small plate and really it was not worth the money spent.
Filet Mignon select tenderloin it is 2in cut. Sorry for this shot (if you know what I mean).
Porcini Mushroom Risotto: If this risotto could talk, it would say "It's bad to be me!" and I would say "It's bad to be you, indeed!"
Rib Eye Steak was juicy, tender, tasty and grilled perfectly.
Best Chocolate Mousse, Creme Caramel and Tiramisu Sampler. This was complimentary and I must say "Compliments to Chef Grace for these simple dessert creations!"
Btw, you get to enjoy this chandelier for the night inside the private room as a bonus.
Thanks to Elbert for the wonderful night!
