This place is very close to where I live. Their cold udon is so-so, I guess that’s what you get for the low price. I keep coming back for their salmon and tuna sashimi which are relatively cheaper given their freshness.

Oldie but goodie resto for jap food. Highly recommend the ebi tempura set that comes with 6 pieces of tempura, rice and miso soup which always fills me up (request for lots of radish and ginger). The sukiyaki is also a great option for sharing. We like the breaded tofu if you're looking for vegetarian options. We also ordered the chawan mushi and sashimi which were really tasty. Request for their house hot tea. Overall, their menu is so extensive and everyone will have something to eat!! Great for families and value for money. Service is also polite and speedy. Will be back for sure

Its my first time ordering something in this restaurant, a Nabeyaki Soba. The soup's delicious, but they could improve the amount of toppings...and I've never seen a white soba before. The soba I often see are the darn brownish ones with a peculiar taste I liked. I was honestly expecting THAT soba in the soup. The Ebi Fry accompaniment is so creamy-melt-in-the-mouth it's to DIE for. Toppings needs amount increase, cut noodle amount by 1/4 and it'll be good. Too much noodles.

Food here doesn't disappoint. Food is served hot and fast. Though their food is affordable, the quality doesn't suffer. Their staff are friendly and helpful too. The only drawback is the ambiance because the restaurant is old already.

Suzu Kin is family run restaurant in San Antonio that seems to have been there forever. Serves fresh and tasty Japanese food at very low prices. I was almost sad to use zomato gold and get a further discount of 1+1 on food.

We got the Kisu Tempura Teishoku, fresh apahap with miso soup and rice. Suzu Kin serves a miso soup unlike any other - with tempura batter flakes. The apahap was fresh and one of the best tempura I've had.

Sukiyaki was excellent too. Tender beef slices in a sweet broth with glass noodles, veggies and tofu. And an egg on the side.

Highly recommended for people looking for good quality and affordable Japanese food!

As you can see from the photos, the serving is a lot for each of the sushi rolls we ordered!!! Literally boatloads of maki are being served 🤗

What we tried:
Spicy Tuna Maki
California Maki
Ebi Tempura

The only drawback might be the ambiance as it is looks a little run down. It’s located in the first floor of the owner’s house, and has a nice charm for being a neighborhood staple.

Also used my first Zomato Gold unlock here, so our visit was super worth it! Don’t forget to use my code PHYLIC when you decide to get Zomato Gold 🤗

Suzu Kin has been a family favorite for over three decades. I remember when I was starting my banking career, if we had Japanese food cravings, it was either Suzu Kin or Kimpura. There were not that many Japanese restaurants back in the '80s. Suzu Kin would more often be chosen because it was budget-friendly. In his later years, if ever my Papa would be gone from the house and did not leave word, for sure we would find him here eating his favorite sukiyaki.

Though the place is definitely old and in need of refurbishment, this feels like home for the comfort and memories it brings.

Today, I got the Kisu (apahap) Tempura Teishoku (P215) which came with rice and miso soup. Suzu Kin's miso soup is unlike other miso soups because it is more scrumptious with tempura batter flakes and seafood bits (fish, shrimp, scallop or whatever is in season). The fish, itself was fresh and delicious and came in 7 pieces (probably because I'm old and an old-time customer). Just on the first bite, I knew I was welcomed.

Another thing, I do not pass up on is their coffee jelly dessert. It has grown a lot bigger than before, now it is being served in an ice cream sundae glass compared to the small bowl it was served in before. One thing I noticed though, is that it seems they already pre-make their coffee gelatin and store it in the freezer so some ice particles are present. Before, I remember it was silky smooth and freshly made that it rivaled the coffee jelly of Bunchum's Japanese coffee house, that arguably had the best coffee jelly dessert at the time. Nonetheless, today's lunch was a trip down memory lane.

It's my first time to eat here and it was great. The ingredients tasted fresh and waiting time for food is short. The serving size is just right + everything tasted good. We ordered chirashi, gyoza, salmon sashimi, tempura and tonkatsu. Worth the money, we'll definitely come back.

Food: I always come here for their set meal with a bit of everything to it--tempura, fish, chicken, veggies, soup in one. The bestseller dish is a perfect starter for those who don't know what to order and yet want to try every viand. As for their tempura--it's a so-so because it is not crunchy as expected. Spicy tuna sashimi is also a good one. Katsudon is salty though the egg is always cooked perfectly. Also, this resto is famous for their miso soup, they put tempura flakes on it which adds texture to the soup.

Price: Affordable among the Japanese restaurants in Makati, however, do not expect too much. You get what you pay for, and delicious home cooked style Japanese meals are served here.

Location: I used to live nearby this restaurant and it was just in front of my mentor's shop so this was a good option if I want a quick Japanese fix for my cravings. Do not expect grandiose Japanese ambiance because this has homey karinderya feel to it in a good way.

Will I go back again? Yes. Some people find the place sketchy because it's an old house, but if you're after an affordable good meal, this is the place.

We ordered their Lunch Set - it has rice, 2 pieces tempura, chicken, anchovies, togue and pork.

California Maki - they used mango in it.

Garlic Beef - made with sliced tender beef.

i will surely come back here again for their food.

I was there the time Zomato said they'd be open. Nope. Closed.

For affordable Japanese food, this is a good option and I also find its location in San Antonio okay. You get what you pay for. Servers are always friendly and the speed of service is reasonably quick.

The coating of the Tempura is simple and reminds me of home-cooked meals but theirs has presentation.

As of today, my new favorite is their Ebi Furai Teishoku. They give 5 generously-sized pieces that crunch perfectly while bitten on the outside. Thickness of the coating is, indeed, very thick to my liking and the tonkatsu sauce is also amazing!

This hole in a wall restaurant has successfully been associated to my childhood memories when I lived in Makati. The food here has become my standard for the Japanese cuisine I always look for in any restaurant I encounter a Japanese dish. This is where I learned to eat sashimi. I will never get enough of this place that I try to come by once in a few months even if I come all the way from the south. It never disappoints me. The staff are very attentive and courteous too. I used to wonder why they did not think of renovating or expanding the establishment. I believe in their motto of keeping it all like how it used to be as a sign of luck. It also brings good vibes every time we dine here.

Went here to have lunch with my co-workers (plus our boss). If you happen work nearby, this is a good place to visit especially if you're craving for an average Japanese meal. Place isn't fancy but works just fine.

I ordered the chicken teriyaki rice meal with a miso soup and ebi tempura. Serving size is good. Plus, the price is really affordable. The toilet is functional but not as presentable as you can expect though. Your place for a quick Japanese fix.

My parents usually dine with us at this simple and budget-friendly Japanese restaurant ever since I was 7 years old. To this date, the quality of the food, the attitude of the servers are still awesome as ever! Whenever I visit this place, I usually feel warm and remember the good 'ol days 😀

Their miso soup, which is served with every meal you order, is TO DIE FOR. Best miso soup I've tasted (seriously).

Kani salad tastes great, ingredients not too finely chopped, and the mayo was to be mixed on the spot, making the salad easier to eat since it's not served soggy or soaking wet.

This is the first time we tried eating the pork katsudon and the bento. Both are served in a satisfying amount, still with room for dessert.

Since I will definitely visit SOONER than later, I will add more pictures of what we will order.

Items recommended - we usually order the following: Nabiyaki Udon, Tempura Udon, Gyoza, Salmon Sushi and my boyfriend's favorite "Chirashi"

Please visit this cozy and budget-friendly place! ✌🏻️😊

Suzu Kin has been around for over 20 years now. It's like an institution in Kamagong. My friend introduced me to this unassuming Japanese resto back in the 90's and we've been coming here ever since.

We always order the teishoku set with a sampling of their bestsellers, oyster teppan, chicken katsu, and tempura. Service is fast and efficient. Parking may be a problem but you can always park at the gas station beside it for a fee if street parking is full.

Do not be fooled by the lackluster exterior of this restaurant. Give their food a try and you'll be surprised.

The shrimp they used for the Shrimp Tempura were reasonably big, so no complaints here. Other restos would pile on the batter on small shrimp so that it looks bigger, but this is an exception. A little bit greasy though, but let it sit for a while on the paper towels (I think) and it'll be just fine.

Happy with the Gyudon. Hot steamed Japanese rice and nicely seasoned beef... Yum! And I love the raw egg. It's not Gyudon without the raw egg. 🙂

What got me was their Miso Soup. They used white miso, instead of the more common brown miso, and had more tofu and seaweed than the usual. I think it was dad who said white miso is better than the brown one (I dunno for what reason though... Can someone tell me?), so I guess they know their stuff.

Their fare reminds me of home-cooked Japanese food my dad used to make, and that for me is a plus.

I have been craving for Japanese food for a week since I've eaten here and I must say, WORTH IT! I wasn't able to eat lunch while I was at work so immediately after my shift, I asked my friend to eat out with me. She lives somewhere in Estrella and she said that, we should try walking around to check whatever Makati has to offer.

At first glance, the place looked sketchy. I could've mistaken it for an old house that got lost in this generation. There was a sign that suggests it was a japanese restaurant. I was hesitant at first but, I just really wanted sushi so I gave in. Whatever it looked from the outside, translated to it's interiors. It looked like it was never been renovated ever since this restaurant opened up. I actually wanted to step out bc at first I thought, I'd get disappointed. But one of the ladies who works there was just so polite on having us seated so, I went through with it.

They have a lot of things to offer on their menu. My friend and I ordered the Maguro Sushi, Chicken Teppanyaki and Ten Don plus Miso Soup. Took a while for the food to come out. A little under 20 mins. The sushi came out first and for under 200php for 10 pieces, I'am completely okay with that. Plus it was really good and the fish was fresh. The Teppanyaki was also pretty good, buttery and a serving is fit for two people. Must come with rice, in my opinion. The Ten Don was also nice. The batter itself already has it's own flavor and they weren't selfish with the servings. Plus their Miso Soup was THE BOMB. Probably the best miso soup I've had.

With everything we had plus canned drinks were all worth 660php. I'd definitely say that it's pretty cheap and it's pretty good jap food for me. Plus the people who were attending to is were really nice. Hope they could work on their ambience, tho. It just doesn't look really appealing on the outside.

We ordered their yaki udon, hiyashi udon and nigiri sushi. Orders can be shared but if you have a big appetite, one order is filling. Food tasted good and you're not gonna be dissappointed. Will definitely come back to try their other stuff.

Service: 5/5
The servers were really attentive, courteous and very helpful. Even if there were lots of orders when we arrived, we were immediately given the menu and they took our order as soon as we were ready. It was our first time eating here so we asked lots of questions.

Ambience: 3.5/5

My boyfriend and I were wandering nearby the Kamagong St. looking for a new restaurant to try last Friday when we saw this old facade of a Japanese restaurant. We dare each other to try this new place. Upon entering, it feels like I'm in one of those animes I've been watching when I was kid. We tried their shrimp tepanyaki (coz I love shrimp) and chicken teriyaki. Based from the look of the place I didnt expect much. But to my awe it tastes so great!! Our bold move to try this new place ended us having full stomach and happy. We will surely go back some other day to try other foods in their menu. 😁

I've tried this place before, like 4 years ago. I don't remember the experience, but after seeing the documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", I had to try it again. It's never rated as the best, nor does it aspire to be. It's an affordable place that is not pretentious but tries real hard to please its customers. I ordered Nigiri Sushi from here to go and ate it while watching the documentary. It was nice, daydreaming of eating sushi from a 3-star Michelin sukibayashi, while actually eating sushi that does not break the bank.
Up: Low price but good sushi
Down: Confusing opening time (but it makes sense actually)

I'm kinda new in Makati so I didn't know the Suzu Kin has been there since the 80s. After reading reviews about being "authentic," I gave it a try.

It's pretty obvious that they haven't yet upgraded the place. It's like a carinderia in my opinion. Don't expect much on the interiors. The place looks dull and not IG worthy. I wasn't also sure if the air-conditioning unit was switched on. It was so hot inside. I sat next to the electric fan.

I ordered gyudon. It consists of beef strips, sotanghon, rice and egg. It was a very filling bowl. Apparently, it was my first time to have sotanghon in a gyudon (talk about carbs, whew!). The taste was great. It had the right amount of saltiness and sweetness. The beef was soft. However, some portions of the rice were dry. The food presentation wasn't also that attracting.

I believe the soup is included in every order. My soup tasted good! The broth had this wine-like flavor. It had small chops of tofu and another white crunchy thing (which I can't figure out what it was) that added texture to the soup. Make sure to consume it before it gets cold. It's an appetizing treat while waiting for your main dish.

With the growing number of Japanese restaurants in Makati, I'm really not sure if Suzu Kin can stand above the rest. But at least it's still there, serving Japanese food to patrons, old and new.

Suzu Kin has been around for quite sometime. The place is a bit old and it needs renovation but the quality of the food did not change. Their must-try's include their Ebi Tempura, Salmon & Tuna Sashimi, Pork Gyoza, Miso soup, Katsudon and Chicken Teriyaki. The dishes here are savory and the menu is relatively complete with everyone's Japanese favorites. The servers are very accommodating and will attend to your requests. The place is not grand but it is sure worth a visit if you're looking for something cheap yet filling!

Suzu Kin is located in a very muted area in San Antonio, Makati. With cars passing by, it's easy to miss it. However, when only walking and in search of something new to eat at, I guess spotting it would be natural.

The place was a bit drab. Yet on a weeknight, it's surprisingly full house. So gave it a shot.

The food took more than 5 minutes to be served. Had a very cheap Ebi Tempura at Php 200 for 6 pieces already. Well, it's not super fresh and I wonder why it's thinner than the usual. Weirdly though, I enjoyed it. I also like their tempura sauce which has a kick of ginger.

Another dish tried was Beef Garlic at Php 182 and it tastes good! Nothing fancy but just like the goodness of home-cooked foods. Let me suggest a tip. Use a spoon for this. And make sure there's no sauce left!

Rice for a bowl at Php 48.

Overall, I enjoyed it's simplicity.

Enjoy eating,

Suzu kin is a traditional Japanese resto serving Authentic Japanese food since 1981. I am not much of a miso soup person but theirs is something I can totally eat. Its not as sour as other miso soups and it has temputa breading that gives it better taste and texture. We also orderd kani salad and they serve it fresh and the dressing is just heaven. Their All-day-everyday meal is a sample platter with tempura, tuna, chicken and rice. Their meals ranges from 100 up with big servings. The resto opens at 1030 closes from 2 to 530 and opens again at 6pm.

This place is memorable since we had one of our first meals together here.

We ordered the ebi tempura, lunch sampler and california maki.
The ebi tempura was okay. The batter and tempura sauce were good. However, the shrimps were quite small.
The lunch sampler was okay I guess. BFF seemed to have enjoyed his meal. LOL.
The california maki was also good. And for the price, there were a lot! I think an order has 8 pieces and BFF and i had to "struggle" a bit to finish it since we were both full with our other orders already.

The place was clean and well-ventilated but needs a little sprucing up. The servers were very nice, warm, quick and attentive. Not really the authentic japanese taste--but for the price, it was worth it! Enjoyed the food.

With the rise of upscale-to-overindulgent Japanese restaurants in the city, Suzu Kin is definitely a pleasant differentiator.

A "hole-in-the-wall" would be a befitting description of this type of restaurant. Going inside gives you a VERY modest, unassuming, almost cafeteria-like ambiance. No dress codes, no required "look", no pretentions whatsoever. Come as you please -- just please don't come in your boxers...that's just MY own requirement. ;-)

"Authentic" is as close as you could get to the real Japanese deal with their menu offering. There's even an elderly Japanese woman staring from the counter -- giving you that feel as if you were transported to some quaint Japanese town restaurant...with Filipina servers. =P

The price range is VERY affordable. Sashimi for less than P200 is always a very good deal. Their bento boxes are also quite a happy deal -- for a bit over a hundred pesos, you get a full (heavy to some) meal that doesn't make you feel or think like you've been cheated and got your money's "worth" (because it's not expensive, that is!)

Parking is quite problematic -- especially when they get full. So be prepared to park blocks away and walk a bit...or a lot. Don't worry, it's better that you're hungry when you get there and order!

They're usually closed from 2pm to 6pm and 9pm onwards as well...so make sure you get there on time.

There should be more Suzu Kins in Metro Manila. Like in every block. ;-)

Simplicity is what SuzuKin is all about. A small hole-in-the-wall Japanese joint, I had crossed this restaurant on Kamagong Street several times but didn't notice it until a friend recommended eating there.

Authentic in every way, Suzukin offers fresh, steamy Japanese classics like soba noddles that are not overdone in soy sauce like other restaurants. They maintain a consistent flavouring in all their foods. The buttery oysters were nothing like I've had before. The deshelled oysters were in a curry that tasted like yummy oyster sauce. Also, they were cooked a bit more than usual which reduced the slimy texture and smell that usually repels me from eating oysters.
Another awesome thing about their food is that the regular portion of sushi is a set of 12 maki rolls as opposed to the usual 6/8. More for me to eat! The California Maki was very fresh and flavourful.

The place is nothing to boast about when dining in as it looks like a family cafeteria, but a takeout is certainly worth it. Absolute value for money!
