Good food and service. The chicken skin is so good especially when drinking during happy hour.

I ordered chicken thigh on stick, crispy salmon and California rolls. chicken was salty by itself but with the sauce it was good. California was just okay but the crispy salmon was phenomenal. And I love the strawberry shake! They have amazing service. I appreciate that Kier was attentive asking us if we had a movie scheduled since he saw my hubby checking his watch and prioritized our order. A bit cramp with the place but pratical and easy to manage customers. It was a wonderful experience! We're going back soon to try the other things in the menu and for the excellent service.
We went here as a last resort, but turned out as the best place we could’ve dined in that night! Loved the sushi and their rice bowls. Their rice was too oily though, it was quite a challenge to eat it with chopsticks. Could be the teriyaki sauce’s fault, maybe? But I don’t think so. The salmon sushi was so tasty. Their matcha ice cream is also the BEST! See, didn’t even had the chance to take a pic of it coz it was just so good! The only thing though is their waiters? They served us the wrong food at first, then we had to repeat our follow-up orders thrice, I think. But overall, the food’s great, and I’m pretty sure people can be trained to be better. 👍

One of our favorite go to and hangout place every after work. I love their wagyu sticks and the “isol” on stick I forgot the exact name. And also we love spending our nights here also at their legazpi village branch. Overall, food, ambience, service and quality is very worth of my money.
AUTHENTIC. A real gem that is very close to those in Japan. Real value for money. Insane makis. Excellent yakitori. I have been here thrice. 10/10 would dine again.
I tried the crispy salmon m, misou soup and chicken wings yakitory. Sushi was very nice, rest were on the ok scale. I received fresh sliced veggie as complimentary with nice sauce, it was very nice surprise. Service was accommodating. The unacceptable part for me is that I payed 355p (without drink) and went out from the shop hungry.
I was pleasantly surprised when friends took me here for dinner the other evening. Food was delicious, staff was attentive, and ambience was conducive to conversation and spending time with loved ones. Would definitely recommend. Although it was a bit dark, I’m sure that’s just part of the experience.
Place is small, cramped and quite dark for lunchtime. Improvements can be done for the interiors and the lighting.
But the food tastes great. We ordered their set for 4 which came with tempura, maki, gyohan, and 4 kinds of yakitori - 2 chicken, 1 beef and 1 pork (4 sticks each variety). Ordered extra salmon sashimi. Meat were tender and seasoned well, specially the beef yakitori :) value for money 👍
Went here with some friends for lunch. The staff were all dressed on Greek costumes for Valentine’s day. The place looks fine.
We ordered the best seller and rice with edamame. Food tastes great and staff were friendly. The manager gave cookies to my friends after we finish our meals.
This is my usual go-to-place when I am in the area and craving for some decent and affordable Japanese food.
I ordered Salmon Skin Maki, Quail Egg wrapped with Bacon and Asparagus wrapped with pork and Mango Shake
The place is quite small I think, but can accommodate lots of customers. The staffs are attentive and are super friendly, too. The food is quite pricey but taste really good. Their grilled options is a must try.
Home of Japanese barbecue.
From corn on a cob to just about any meat (chicken, pork, beef) and yes including seafood.
The food are well-seasoned and tender with the right umami to satisfy one’s palette.
Best for nightouts and Fridays as they also offer booze.

This made it to my Top 5 restaurants !
I love the concept , order a meat skewer and will cook them straight from the grill
Love the tenderness of the beef ... we ordered tenderloin , and the chicken wings oh so yummy!
Everything is good!
Its been a while since I've eaten
in a true yakitori restaurant. I was
hesitant at first since I'm not a fan
of Skewer type meals. I prefer bulk
toppings. However, when my order
came (Pork Belly), it was very tasty.
Slightly pepperish and not too salty.
You will crave for more rice. Next
time I will invite my friends so we
can have a Yakitori feast!

My family and I would go here whenever we crave for yakitori. Aside from it, I like their salad too. I think the dressing has strawberries in it which gives a twist on your usual japanese salad. Prices aren’t bad too!
I was the only guest so I sat at the bar. It was nice to watch the chef in action, slicing the salmon, and rolling the sushi. Everything was super fresh!
Can't believe I was able to finish everything haha yey me!

Had a fun lunch here at Nanbantei this rainy Saturday before watching "Goyo."
We ordered their best seller platter consisting of: 3 sticks aspara maki, 3 sticks tebasaki, 3 sticks pork with garlic, 3 sticks shiso maki, 3 sticks negima, 3 sticks poteto maki and 3 grilled cobs of corn. I had the corn shredded and ordered 3 additional sticks of beef yakiniku and yaki onigiri or grilled riceball. This was enough to feed 3 hungry individuals craving for clean tasting Japanese barbecue.
I thoroughly enjoyed the selection, but I enjoyed beef yakiniku, aspara maki (asparagus with pork), poteto maki (bacon wrapped potato wedge) and the chicken wing (tebasaki which did not need any sauce to be flavorful), the most. The grilled riceball was a revelation because it was like eating sweet soy flavored crispy "tutong" on the outside but inside was glutinous Japanese rice. The shredded corn likewise provided the right carbs for our meal.
I will be back to try their seafood dishes because today's spread got me hooked.
Finally tried Nanbantei with the hubby. I’ve been always curious to check the place out since there’s always lots of people dining on the weekends.
Hubby was happy with their Buy 2 Take 1 Imported Beers particularly with the Sapporo which is P175 each making 3 pcs only P350 (approx only P117 each). Beers were served in cans. They offer Pepsi products so no Coke Zero for me but good thing they have Pepsi Max.
We got the Bestseller Platter of Yakitori and a bowl of Katsudon for me. We love everything in the platter which consists mostly of pork and chicken. Everything was so good! Katsudon was also really good. I opted not to have leeks and put a lot of chili powder instead, super good! We were so full!
Hubby and I agreed that this would definitely be a new go-to place for us.
I love everything especially their beef yakiniku! It's so tasty! And it's also inexpensively priced! Just plain rice and you'll have a good meal na!
Their sushis are really good too. Though they're a little small, sakto lang for the price.
And they have a nice selection of skewers too!
Yum!
First time for me to try Japanese grilled foods (yakitori) and everything we ordered and consumed from the Best Seller category (meat and veggies) were very tasty especially the asparagus covered with thin slices of meat. Every bite’s very juicy and packed with flavors! My personal favorite was the Tsukune as it can be eaten alone even without dipping it in their special yakitori sauce. Must try!
PS: Chose to be seated at the bar so we can closely see how the foods are prepared and grilled. Staff were very nice to us and gave us everything we needed for our first time yakitori dining experience.
Nanbantei never fails! I even take took several guests there and everyone had rave reviews about the food. Expect to see more of us there again!
Cheap and worth it! I can't even finish the whole serving of rice. It may seem like it's expensive for only two sticks but it's not, trust meeee. Love the sushi, spicy tuna is one of the best I've had
As a sister company of Chili's, as expected, they did not disappoint. The price was not exaggerated unlike other Japanese restaurants. I highly recommend the tori karaage, you'll notice a lot of people really order it because it's really delicious paired with rice. Their tempura and skewers are also very delicious. Bottomline is, everything we ordered (even the iced tea) tasted great. The place isn't too big which gives it a more private and quiet feeling. This is by far one of my favorite Japanese restaurants.

It was my second time to eat here!!! I was in love with their ribeye fried rice, I focused on eating their grilled items on the menu which were really good. The price was really affordable, value for money. Their deep fried crispy chicken skin is to die for.... literally!!! Hahahaha.
Heaven for yakitori lovers! Each serving has two sticks for less then 200php, so you can choose different variety and just mix and match.
We had pork and beef yakitori. The pork was a bit fatty, the beef was really tender and juicy! Tempura comes with 8 pieces, big, crispy shrimps for 400+. The crispy salmon sushi is really unique, i love their peanut sauce, it mixes well with everything. And they also serve complimentary cucumber/carrot/turnip sticks for appetizers.
My mom and me dine here last night.... we ordered shrimp tempura and salmon wrapped with bacon. I got bottomless iced tea and y mom got san mig light....
All my rating for them is 5.... food is great and their manager plus wait staffs are all well trained. They even ask us if we have any complain for our food or their services....
Nanbantei doesn't do anything flashy, and that's a good thing. Consistency is their primary virtue - you can always expect simple, flavorful food, warm service and clean surroundings. One of Tokyo's oldest imports never fails to satisfy us, which is why it merits monthly visits even as the Manila food landscape continues to evolve.
I appreciate the wide selection more now as a pescetarian. The fish selections are awesome!
Good food! I loved the Tsukune and the Momo ( Chicken Meat Balls and Grilled Chicken ) but most of the dishes are only in single serving. Overall it was great, especially if you are fond of Japanese dishes.
Offer the most legit yakitori sticks in the metro that is cooked to perfection. I love their platters cause it offers variety and a little bit of everything. Service is great, staff is very accommodating, and their matcha ice cream is delish too!
Sumptuous Japanese cuisine for two or solo. Love their tempura since they serves fresh and hot.
Yakiudon which is good for two. Love their dalandan juice as well since there is no preservatives added.
Hope they will open new branches in the South of Metro soon!
Yakitori at its best!!! I loved their Grilled Salmon wrapped in Bacon, Leba Maki (Chicken Liver), and Ebi Tempura! Don't forget to pair your sticks with their Yaki Onigiri (Grilled Rice Ball - I swear this is delicious by itself) and you'll surely have a satisfying meal. 👌
It's better to book your table before coming especially on weekend because there are many people. Nanbantei has reasonable price for their sushi. I enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Maki and Beef Garlic Yaki. It's better to have the Beef Garlic Yaki in medium rare. Too bad Crispy Salmon Maki was not available. I also enjoyed their green tea ice cream. They have 2 scoops for one order. It's already good for sharing! I just hope the service will become faster especially for giving the bill.
Ordered their set meal which includes unli rice and miso soup, 2pcs maki of your choice (I picked crispy salmon), 4pcs yakitori sticks (2 pork and 2 chicken). Was dining with a group so we ordered additional yakitori sticks and tempura. Their yakitori sticks are deceptive which makes you think they are inadequate but will actually make you full. Will definitely go back.
I like this place. We ordered tuna sashimi, salmon sushi, cali maki and two different pork yakitori. They were all good. Cali maki was better than I had in other restos. It was just a bit pricey but it was worth the price.
The food is great! Everything we ordered were tender and fresh. One thing we didn't like at all were the small portions. The pork yakiniku was also a tad bit too salty. The service wasn't the best but it was okay. I won't recommend this for big hungry groups though. This is more for intimate dinners with 2-3 people. The space in Greenbelt wasn't that big too. I wish they had more choices for set meals! Over-all experience was good. 👍👍👍
Affordable yakitori place. They are also offering a decent selection of beer and sake to pair with the meat which is good. The serving sizes could have been more but the quality and freshness of the food is top notch.
Came to MNL for a night due to some task at hand. Arrived at night so I had to find a quick and hearty meal. Looked through Greenbelt3 and craved for some yakitori. WELL DAMN, cravings satisfied. I had Tamago sashimi, Salmon with leek skewers and the Pork Belly skewers. All seasoned very well, goes well with rice (what doesn't?). 5/5 would come back again
Crave for more!
I expected for a very rich taste in their yakitori bc of its size. It didn't give me that, but it left me wanting to order more.
I enjoyed the grilled rice wrapped in nori. And the quail eggs wrapped in bacon.
I would definitely recommend dining here!
I had a meeting until around 12:30PM so I followed after my officemates to lunch at Nanbantei. I wasn't in the mood to order a lot of yakitori so I opted for their Salmon Ochazuke for Php 150.
Ochazuke is a Japanese dish where you have rice and a topping in a bowl of tea or dashi stock. The ochazuke here in Nanbantei uses dashi stock - from what I can taste. It's not as bland as the ochazuke I've tried using tea. The salmon was cooked well but it wasn't a lot. Despite that it was still quite filling.
For grilled meats, this is the place-to-be. It's fun to sit at the bar-type seats and watch your food get grilled right in front of you. They also have a good selection of vegetables, seafood, and other meat parts like liver and heart. The latter's not as bad as they sound. Free vegetable sticks are served as appetizers and you can ask for more. Partner them with the vegetable sauce. (I apologize for the name because that's what our server called it.)
If you're choosing between the Salmon Maki and Crunchy Salmon Maki, I strongly recommend the first choice because you'll get those salmon sashimi slices!
Looking for a sushi and yakitori restaurant with affordable price? I would like to recommend this place. The taste is fine , worth of the money that you will spend. The place is cozy and comfortable. The staffs are friendly.
p.s: i bought 2 of crispy salmon sushi (the sushi size is small)
Nanbantei of Tokyo offers cheap yet delicious taste of Japanese cuisine! They serve radish and carrots as your free starters. Their skewers and other dish are very affordable and surely you can finish one order of Ebi Tempura by yourself! 😋😋😋
Nanbantei has maintained it's food quality as befits an international chain.
We started with a good Kani Salad. Then came our drinks - Japanese Mojito and Hibiscus Mojito. The former is sochu based with calamansi juice and Sprite. The latter is Bacardi rum based with Hibiscus syrup and soda water. Pretty good cocktails.
We had Ebi Tempura, Beef Yakiniku, Chicken Momo and Corn on the Cob skewers. Each of the dishes were good with beef Yakiniku as to standout.
I've been here a lot and I can say that this is one of the Japanese restaurants that I really like to spend my money with. With its very affordable menu, it will surely satisfy your Japanese tongue.
Wow this place is authentic and delicious! I can easily compare these to my nights in Tokyo enjoying grilled meat on sticks and super cold beer and sake. The shrimp tempura is great as well. Overall a great place to visit and relax and have a wonderful atmosphere.
Second time at Nanbantei (but first time at the GB3 branch) and last night was a pretty unique experience. We ordered quite a lot because we were really hungry. Staff was very accommodating and respectful. Everything tasted great except for the Ika (squid) and the Tori Karaage (fried chicken). Some, not all, the pieces had a slight taste of rawness. Malansa in tagalog. Their manager, Melai, came by as we were nearing the end of our meal to check up on us. We gave our honest opinion about the taste of the 2 unfinished menu items. She offered to replace them but we thankfully declined because we were already full. Surprisingly, she struck the Karaage from the bill instead. That's great customer service right there!
Surf and Turf P1200
- Beef Garlic Yaki (tender and juicy)
- Ebi Kushi Yaki (grilled shrimp)
- Aspara Maki
- Poteto Maki (can't go wrong with bacon)
- Shake Kushi Maki (mixed minced seafood)
- Corn
The Surf and Turf set composes of 21 sticks total with 3 sticks per variant. In the long run its better and more economical to order the set menu here at Nanbantei instead of ordering individually per 2 sticks with a range price of P115-P150. Overall food was good but a little pricey for yakitori style.
Good place! Went here to meet a colleague and just cat h up. This is the place where I fell in love with matcha! Their matcha latte is. the. bomb. Go get it!!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
The Bestsellers Combi at P995 is real value for money with 21 sticks of assorted yakitori. Everything goes well with a bit of japanese pepper and chili flakes. Was served Negima a bit pale so I had it grilled well. I always like my food well done. If I have to order the yakitori variants one at a time out of the bestseller list, I'll go again for the corn, aspa maki and the rounded thin slices of pork. Yeah, the lightly seasoned thin slices of meat work well for me. Corn had a good crunch with slight charring that gives it that grilled/smoked flavor. What didnt work for me was that we were seated right beside the grilling area so I came out smelling like yakitori. Soy jar had no handle and chili flakes dispenser has twist and turn cap instead of the more convenient flip cover like the japaneae pepper had.
Crispy Salmon Maki and Yakitoris for only P100 definitely catched our attention! 😋
What makes a great makki roll? That I am still trying to find out. Nanbantei's Japanese sushi rolls may not be the #1 when it comes to taste, but it is still worth the try!
Service wise, they are okay. Though I think they were confused, as they handed us a 200 peso change when we haven't even asked for the bill yet. Haha. It occured twice, but it's fine. 😊

Crispy Salmon Roll, Corn Cob, Tempura
Our go to place for a quick dinner and drinks after a long day of work or a movie. The variety of yakitori is enough full keep things interesting and fill you up. I love the chicken wings (tebasaki) and salmon belly. Especially great if you're trying to avoid eating rice. You won't look for it...
I am a big fan of Japanese food in general. But I guess I am not a big fan of yakitori as after a while, some of the meat kinda taste the same.
We ordered the best seller platter, and I liked the one that seemed to be fish. We also had their ebi tempura maki, but it tasted rather ordinary to me. We also ordered chicken skin, which was crispy and reminded us of chicharon.
We tried the Best Sellers Set and surprisingly, after just finishing 7 sticks, I am already full. Good thing I have friends with me so we were able to finish the 21 sticks of purely delicious Japanese grilled delicacies.
I must come back for more.
Anyway, before I forget, thank you for the great service especially RM KV.
Food's perfect, served hot and is tasty and cooked perfectly. service is great, the servers were courteous and attentive. The only thing that we didn't like is the restaurant's ambient temperature is a little too warm for our liking.
This is by far my favorite jap resto in greenbelt. My husband enjoys eating here too. Been here more than 10 times. Our favorites here are beef yakiniku, yakijake (grilled salmon belly with onion leeks), negima (grilled chicken with onion leeks), assorted sushi platter, miso soup, maguro sashimi.
Just sometimes their service is slow, and there was one time that we were served with miso soup that isn't hot anymore.
Japanese Christmas dinners are the annual thing I celebrate with my friends. Little did I know that there's a one bombshell restaurant here in Greenbelt-- Nanbantei is the place to be!
Umu Japanese Restaurant (Dusit Thani Manila) and Nihonbashitei are some of my top picks when it comes to Japanese restaurants, and now Nanbantei is added to the list. The restaurant is confined and well manned. Even though it is busy during the time we dined in, the turn over was smooth. Best selection for me is the Butabara and Tori Kawa Karaage plus they have 50% off their cocktails during dinner time so good times will sure keep on rolling! Prices are mid ranged but fair enough for the tasty japanese dishes served for their guests!

Forgot all the names of our order, but everything was good. Didn't really exceed my expectations but it was ok!
Service was kinda slow. My card was returned after 10-15 minutes. 😩 It was also quite pricey for me. ✌🏼️
I remember eating here during Father's day as my treat to my dad for the hard work he provided us in taking care of our family. Of course we ordered the platter here of the best sellers and it was not quite the yakitoris that I enjoyed, some were prepared too salty and was not seasoned properly. It's a good place to visit for a quick drink and some decent complimentary food to the yakitori, but I wont be going here that much for it.
This was a first for me and a close friend who like myself use to live in Japan for a number of years stopped in for a light early dinner. We were both pleasantly surprised at both the authenticity and price points. Service was exceptional and decor was a very authentic Japanese motif. Will return for a second visit to confirm that it was not a one off and if they are consistent.
Nanbantei is a relatively small Japanese restaurant but their food made a big impression on me. Me and my friends ordered California Maki, Spicy Tuna Maki, and Beef Yakiniku. At that time, I wasn’t a big fan of makis yet. But Nanbantei converted me. The California had a balanced taste of all of its ingredients that made it so delicious. On the other hand, the spicy tuna had just the right amount of spiciness while the tuna was so tasty. Lastly, my favorite was the Beef Yakiniku. For some reason, its taste reminded me of a Wagyu Dish I had at a premium restaurant. It was so good.
Me and my friends definitely got our money’s worth.
You can never really go wrong with Nanbantei!!!
I love this place for their good yakitoris - Negima, Pork Garlic Yaki, Kawa and Aspara Maki (to name a few).
We wanted to get their platters bec it's cheaper but thought of just getting our favorites individually. I guess all their platters are sulit but the yakitori variation is not that good so we will just waste some of it.
Their Yakitoris are best paired with their teriyaki sauce. It's not part of the complementary condiments (soy sauce and the one for the veggies) but you can always ask and they will give it to you for FREE!!! I mean it's a big deal to get free stuff these days because most restaurants ask you to pay an additional fee if you ask for something that's not part of your order. Wala nang libre sa mundo.
I loved the Greenbelt branch because their staffs were really so friendly, accommodating and polite. They value their customers so they'd treat you well and I liked it so much! We were even given 2 coffee jellies because we were looloo members!!! I forgot the requirement to be able to avail the free dessert but it is also seldom that restaurants allow 2 people on the same table to avail freebies!
Overall, our experience was perfect!!! It was just right to comfort us from the heavy rains and traffic yesterday! :)
It's a breath of fresh air seeing a restaurant in Greenbelt that food and drinks (yaass) are not so expensive.
Our objective in going here was to pre-game before going to a bar somewhere in Makati too and we're lucky we found this restaurant because apparently, their cocktails are on 50% discount from Friday to Sunday.
We also appreciate the service because some of my friends wanted separate bills because they'll be using their respective cards and they accommodated us really well.
We had a great time here and we will definitely come back.
This place is always a treat! A good place to kick back and relax, have a few sizzling sticks and some beer. Their sets are a great deal and the chefs really know how to grill it simply but tasty! Also really like the appetizers, vegetable sticks with miso paste. I prefer this branch as for some reason when we tried BGC branch twice, service there was very slow, inattentive and a little bit rude. Not sure if it was due to the crowd or the staff themselves as this happened on both occasions we were there. But aside from that, i still wouldcome back to this resto and recommend it
My manager loves this place so we often eat here. We always prefer the Yakitori platter. Its packed with 21 yakitori sticks of their best yakitoris. The yakitoris are grilled at the time you ordered so they are served deliciously hot. The staff are very accomodating.

Great experience with Nanbatei. I had fried salmon maki, tori karaage and sasami. If you're looking for a decent Japanese taste with good value for your money this is the spot. I'm even gonna make this my spot na dn specially for their maki. You'll get full with I believe just 2 orders of maki. Definitely satisfying. The only thing that's keeping for giving it a full five coz' I need to try it another time with a different variation in my orders. Would recommend getting your friends to get by as well.

I love nanbantei! I always have good memories here. They have good food, good drinks, and great service.
Their yakitori sticks are reasonably priced and grilled in front of you. My favourites are leba maki (chicken liver wrapped in bacon), hatsu (chicken hearts), pork yakiniku, tofu, beef yakiniku, and skewered shrimp.
Aside from yakitori, they also have grilled rice (onigiri) balls, sushi, sashimi, maki, and great tempura.
For drinks i suggest their fresh rita and hibiscus mojito - halfoff on weekends.
Nanbantei is one of our favorite restaurants, I remembered when we were kids and were here almost every weekend.
I love the ambiance, staff and food here. Everything we ordered was great, except for the ochasuke since the taste was bland. The fresh ritas were a disappointment since our favorite bartender was not around today. First one I ordered was too sour, next was too sweet! However, I still give a 4 star rating since the food was great as usual.
Ordered 5 yakitori (10 sticks in total) for two and we really like it. Really wanted to order some more but we were already full as we did order their sushi and onigiri as well.
For the yakitori, do not miss their PORK GARLIC YAKI (tasty and succulent) and their KAWA / chicken skin (REALLY REALLY tasty and crispy and all that).
Sushi was just okay, but we like their onigiri. Forget their sushi, go for their yakitori instead.
I super love Nanbatei's;
✔️ Kani Salad
✔️ Spicy Tuna Maki
✔️ Pork Yakitori, and their
✔️ Coffee Jelly Ice Cream!
The quality and price are definitely worth it. I'll definitely come back. HIHIHI po.
(Review for Nov 15)
My family & I decided to get dinner at Nanbantei because we were catching a movie at Greenbelt cinemas right after.
My parents ordered for all of us & they chose the Best Sellers platter, Kani Salad, Spicy Tuna Maki, Nasu Maki & one cup of Yaki Meshi.
The Best Sellers platter has 21 sticks of their bestselling (duh haha) yakitori. They were all good, but the ones that stood out for me would be the Aspara Maki (asparagus wrapped in pork), Poteto Maki (potato wrapped in bacon) & the Pork Garlic Yaki (pork flavored with garlic). Everything else was good but pretty forgettable.
The Yaki Meshi was pretty much standard Japanese fried rice. The Spicy Tuna Maki was good, but I've had better, more affordable (and far larger) servings at other places. We also liked the Nasu Maki because the grilled eggplant & grilled pork went well together.
The Kani Salad was (surprisingly) my favorite dish that night because all the ingredients were fresh & delicious. The mangoes were nicely sweet, the kani strips generous in serving, the greens crisp & the japanese mayo dressing was really good! It was infused with strawberries giving it an unusual but delicious taste.
Service was good considering that they were a full house that night.
All in all, we had a pretty good meal. I'm giving this dining experience a 3.75 rating mainly because some dishes stood out but majority of what we ordered was good but forgettable.
I still recommend Nanbantei though. It's definitely best for nights out with friends, big groups or those in the mood for lots of yakitori 😊
Took all morning to decide where to eat but finally settled on Nanbantei since they had the 21 sticks for P995.
We were served crudites that was accompanied by their vegetable sauce. I was used to seeing carrots and cucumbers, but having singkamas was new to me. Yes, i've dined here before but forgot how refreshing the turnip-vegetable dip can be! We had a lot of this while waiting for another one of our friends but before that we were deciding to order the sushi platter. P395 And we did!!! The sushi wasn't too impressive, it was just OK. I think we could do without it next time.
21 sticks did not seem like a lot but when Julie started removing them from the sticks, they were a lot to handle! My favorite was the chicken and the potato wrapped in bacon! I also enjoyed the fried asparagus that when one flew away from the stick i picked it up and popped it into my mouth! We were quite full that we left one ear of corn because we couldn't finish it!
What capped this lunch off was coffee jelly. The coffee jelly complemented the vanilla ice cream as with most japanese restos. It was refreshing too. Starting and ending the meal refreshed is always good.
When I'm in Greenbelt and I have a yen for Japanese food, I automatically think Nanbantei!
It's the most uncomplicated food to go to especially when you are going to the cinemas after! (of course you have to get yourself a bucket of popcorn and soda! 😄. Besides, the service is fast and efficient on top of the entire menu on umami!
It just occurred to me that the most overlooked dishes on the menu of any Japanese resto, are the ones on sticks. Diners almost always order the usual - ramen, sushi and maki and do not order anything else. I encourage you to try just for once :) you'll definitely love it, that I can assure you :). Don't forget to order yourself an ice cream! Their ice cream here is very creamy. There are two flavours : Vanilla and green tea. My friends and nephew prefer the former as it tastes like "pure green tea" ( that's their unanimous description) while I always always prefer the simplicity of the creamy vanilla 😋

Overflowing meat? Yes please! It's funny 'cause we weren't even supposed to eat here but fate brought us here. And it's one of those best spontaneous dinners I have ever had. I came in hungry and came out full and satisfied. We ordered the kani salad, which had a slightly different japanese mayo taste, but had a generous serving of kani. Then we ordered their best seller, which had a mix of meat and veggies that we loved. I particularly enjoyed the corn, chicken (there were several chicken variants), and that round-shaped meat. EVERYTHING WAS FREAKING TASTY. No need to add sauce and the whole thing is good for 3. I love it so much because the bill was just a little over 1k, so if you're 2-3 and you order this, it would be totally sulit!I can't wait to be back here with friends and family!
Even at the height of all these new Japanese restaurants sprouting around the city, Nanbantei for me is still among the formidable ones. I recently had lunch there with my friend and we feasted on a handful of favorites. Of course part of what we look forward to there is the Yakitori.
For starters My friend ordered the Kani Salad. I like their version for its lightness and fruity sweetness which complements shredded crab sticks well. Then for our Yakitori, we chose a balanced selection of pork (Aspara Maki), Beef (Yakiniku) and chicken (Negima). Each Yakitori variant offer a distinct experience in terms of taste, flavor and texture which I find very enjoyable to eat
especially when taken with loads of premium Japanese rice.
What I truly personally like at Nanbantei is their version of Ebi Tempura. Large premium quality prawns in light crispy batter. It tastes so good that I refer to it as my bench mark for all other ebi tempuras elsewhere.
It's a bit pricey to eat here but the food quality and taste makes it well worth it. Topping off what for me is one of the best Japanese dining experiences around is the place itself. Dominantly wooden interiors which has been weathered by
time. Providing authenticity and a sense of unpretentious Japanese sensibility.
Nanbantei. The go-to place to get authentic yakitori in the metro. Through the years, I've been visiting this place On and off. Can never go wrong with their yakitori. There are virtually so many options to choose from, from different kinds of meats, to veggies, and fish. There's at least a stick, or rather 2 sticks to satisfy that craving.
Being the pork and chicken wing lover that I am, I always order the pork garlic yaki and the tebasaki, and I do mean ALWAYS. My ultimate favorites and they are even best-seller items on the menu. They are grilled to perfection, with just the right amount of salt or garlic salt sprinkled on them. Sometimes I ask for it to be cooked on the grill a little longer, wanting a little char on them. I think the char brings in another depth of flavor. And being who I am, and my love for spicy food, or at least something with a kick, the little bottle of Japanese chili powder is right in front of me. With every bite, I add a little dash or 2.
Great balance of flavors. When it even comes to the pork garlic yaki, I eat all the leeks, and I'm not fond of them. I really only eat them at yakitori places. The pork garlic yaki is a classic in all yakitori places. The tebasaki is a classic as well. Simple and clean ingredients: wings sprinkled with salts, and then cooked on a grill... Yum! When it comes to cooking, sometimes simple is the best.
Besides yakitori, Nanbantei serves up a pretty good selection of sushi and sashimi. Truth be told, I am a sucker for california makis. It's a must have for me when I eat makis, and having tried numerous ones from numerous restos, the one at Nanbantei tops my list. Why? Simply because of the fish roe (the orange little bits) scattered and stuck to the rice. In a lot of places, the roe is a very tiny ball, almost flat, and in some cases, it barely has and flavor. The roe here is very much quite the opposite, larger than usual, like tiny orange pearls. When you chew on them, they burst, and salty ocean flavor hits your taste buds. Really good!
As for dessert, I love the green tea ice cream. It's so full of rich green tea flavor, creamy and smooth. I think that it's made in house, but I can't really vouch for that. Maybe next time, I'm going to ask if it is or its brand name.
Ambience and service wise, I don't have anything to complain about. There's enough space and seating for a good number of customers, even outside. With the size of the place, I would call it small as compared to other places in the area. It's quite quaint at times, great place to have a date, even if you have to sit at the bar. There you get to watch all the action of the grilling. As for the staff, very nice and curtious. I like places where they remeber your face, and your usual order.
So when yakitori comes to mind, it's Nanbantei.
Yakiniku!!! I love yakiniku! I loved everything we ordered (beef yakiniku, pork garlic yaki, negima, ebi tempura). Service was good. They were attentive. 😀 we also ordered california maki but i think the price (190) is not worth it. The quality isn't that good. I can only taste the cucumber. I will be back! But only for the yakiniku! 😋
