Ordered chicken masala, lamb kebab, curry rice, lassi. All were good. Reasonably priced. Will go back again. The interiors looked really sad, poorly maintained. The waitress seemed to know the menu very well.

The best Mediterranean restaurant ever. It never failed me.

What I usually order:

Kebab platter
Chicken in yellow curry (with Francoise)
Beef Biryani
Shrimp in pink curry sauce
Friendly staff. Authentic food. Put that cheap shawarma that you bought in stalls in the bin and go here instead. Food is reasonably priced. You can drink and smoke outside.

This place is a diamond in the rough! Don't let the surrounding area discourage you from trying. It's my first time here and it's amazing!

I love how the staff were attentive to your needs and most importantly willing to explain the diversity of their menu.

My mom and I tried their hummus and pita, beef kabab and keftah, fiery egg rice, mango lassi, and strawberry lassi.

I also liked the vibe inside the restaurant. It was quiet and away from the crowds of the buzzling night.

The prices are affordable and worth it! The food does not have that Filipino touch in it. It really tastes authentic. Don't be afraid to ask what you want to know if you're not familiar with what they have to offer.

I hope you enjoy this place like I do!

Ziggurat is the place to be for your Arabian, Persian, Indian, and Mediterranean food cravings. They have a very wide selection of food choices. The place is cozy, and you will feel the vibe they are aiming for. The place is well ventilated in the inside and you will sit in an Indian sitting position. One thing Ive noticed is that the equipment they are using inside are quite old. Probably needs renovation? Also, there are tables outside if you would prefer a smoking area while enjoying your food. As for the staff, they are very good mannered plus they offer suggestions if you dont know what to order.

I have only tried a few of their dishes but all of those Ive tried are very good. Ill try describing them to the best of my abilities:

Qeema - The plating was nice; the food was served to us very fresh. You can really smell the spices used in preparing this dish. We have also ordered Poppadum to go along with this dish. The mix was a complex taste of rich spices plus the savory taste of the beef. Also, there are diced eggplants in the mix, but you will never notice it that is eggplant. Quite an awesome combination.

Beef Kebab - The food was served on a very cute plating. The beef was nice skewered and there are vegetables on the side. The dish was so-so to be honest. Why? Because the meat was cold when it was served, and it felt dry. I am not sure if this was served fresh but from my experience, there are other Kebab restaurants that could serve this dish better than this. This was quite frustrating.

Shrimp Rajasthani Watermelon Curry - This one is very good. Ive always wanted to try this dish as it is quite not the usual. The main seasoning used for the curry are squashed watermelon. The garlic, coriander, and cumin mixed well with the sweetness of the watermelon. It is a bit weird but not in a bad way as the color is quite reddish compared to your usual curry. The vegetables mixed were cooked in a nice way. Plus the texture of the curry made to perfection. Quite a heavenly concoction. Ive had multiple orders of rice (which I would discuss next) just to savor this a lot.

Indian Basmati Rice - This one is a very good combination to the Entrees we have ordered. The aroma is very sweet. Very fresh if I may describe. The rice combines well with the dishes. My only complaint is that one serving is not enough to satisfy my hunger.

Gulab Jamun - This one was a curious choice for me. One of the Indian desserts that Ive always wanted to try. To be honest, the experience was quite underwhelming. To describe these are milk balls mixed with honey syrup sauce. I am not sure why, but the taste is like spoilt milk and is very sweet. I still finished the plate but there was a sense of frustration after. I think Ill try their other desserts next time instead.

Bangalore Chili Beer - The beer was served in an ice-cold mug, with a green chili inside. The taste was weird but not bad. I havent experienced any other chili beers but to describe it, there was subtle spiciness while tasting the good beer with it. Great compliment to their meat dishes.

Now if only they could only adjust their servings based on the price they are asking for, I could give my rating as a 5. Still, I would recommend this place to anyone and I will come back again to try their other dishes. Cheers!

Grabe. I didn't expect their food to be of that quality. To be honest, the ambiance of the place kinda feels off. Parang medyo sensory deprivation room kasi yung feel sa loob. But the FOOD is EVERYTHING. Ang sarap talaga at hindi siya ganun kasakit sa bulsa. Staff are also nice na may gana pa makipag chikahan si ate hahaha. Love it.

Don’t let its looks deceive you, this place has the best, probably, Mediterranean food in makati. Well place doesnt look bad, its actually quite decent naman. Anyway to the food we go! Shrimp tandoori plus afghan rice is the combo to go for. My very first bite had me pause, cause the earthy or smokey? flavor just felt and tasted great in my mouth. Combo’d with the newly cooked and steaming afghan rice and you got a winner, each bite was just heaven.

Their garlic sauce is the bomb too. Plus you can also order a tub of it, yup a tub, for around 250-300. I recommend that you do and try it with anything fried...you’ll thank me later. Heh.

Uh review is getting too long, just give ziggurat a try, you won’t regret it.

Ziggurat is probably one of my favourite restaurants here in Manila. I often find that the restaurants in the city are limited to the basic Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Mexican (etc. etc.) Ziggurat is a breath of fresh air offering Persian, Mediterranean, and North African cuisine. As you enter, you are immediately drawn by the unique interiors, art, and decor. I Iove how this restaurant isn't your standard table-and-chair restaurant.

Lots of vegetarian options too which I appreciate :)

My only qualm is the extensive menu. It can be a bit overwhelming (food's great though for the price so I don't mind it that much)

5/5 Thanks, guys!

This is our go to Indian restaurant in Poblacion because you can get very affordable, very legit Indian food. Their menu offers wide variety of curry, kebab, etc so you’ll never run out of Indian food to try. The place is hidden so it’s a good place to chill as it’s not crowded.

One of the best beef kebabs I ever had and the menu with the moooossst variety per category (I am not exaggerating; see for yourself). This, however, makes them NEED TO REALLY IMPROVE their menu presentation.

Not everyone can imagine or know the ingredients or dishes through words alone. The menu with photos has no label for each image. So the second time I went with friends, we simply had kebab again.

Quiet and chill place, despite being in between bars and clubs nearby. Smoking area available.

Recommended dish: kebab platter served with pita

Tastes alright: mezze forte

This place it’s a hidden gem. Deep inside in the red district of Burgos Ziggurat makes a statement through food and ambiance, very true to its spices and fragrances the food is served and transports you to the Middle East, India and Africa. Also when you sit for serving you’ll have to remove your shoes and be seated on a floor full of pillows, heavenly... Highly recommended!
We order Punjabi Palak with chicken, Curry Francois with beef, Lebanese rice, Jordanian rice, Mezze forte, injera (although it didn’t taste anything like the original from Ethiopia, hence the loss of 1 star on my review). Overall it was a god experience that we’ll repeat soon! The staff was also friendly, polite and accommodating.

I was craving something spicy and different to the normal dishes around, so decided to check Ziggurat out after hearing good reviews from various people. I ordered the Moroccan Duck Tagine, Kashmiri Red Curry and some roti bread. Everything tasted great, but I would've liked a bit bigger portions. Will go back to try other dishes as the menu has an enormous amount of choices.

They've got the biggest menu we've encountered so far!

We chose Iraqi Saffron Rice from more than 30 choices.
I like it! Simple yet delicious!

Indian Tomato soup is supeeeeer delicious!!! 😍😍😍
I like it so much.

Beef curry is a must try!

I didn't enjoy eating Chicken Tikka. It was too dry.

I didn't like Baklava as well. It was too sweet.

We tried to dine both inside and outside and I prefer to eat outside because of fresh air.

Cons:
•Limited parking space
•Too many distractions outside (you know what I mean) 😆

This place is really good! :) It's around the Burgos area. They offer a wide variety of food like African, Indian, and Mediterranean cuisine. Their menu is so extensive you might have a hard time choosing. I would suggest though that you go for the Kebab platter. Their kebabs are so good. They don't skimp on the meat and spices at all. It's almost like a steak version kind of kebab if that makes sense. Haha. Their pita and the dips that come with them are good too! We all personally enjoyed their roti. Their roti has a crepe-like consistency and it's so so deliciously addicting. This'll definitely be my go-to place for kebabs.

A hidden gem for African and Mediterranean food! :) They offer so many things that their menu is a spread of a broadsheet (literally!). Love their Curry Francoise (particularly if its missed with lamb), Afghani rice (basmati rice, butter, parsley and cilantro) and their Palak Paneer (though I've had better). :) The mezze combos are also good for sharing especially if you are in a group.

Its fun to discover new dishes. Its my comfort food place.

We use to order the "chicken wet" dish all the time, chicken in a greenish blackish extremely delish curry. I Dream of it all the way here in California ... but I don't see in your extensive menu which I recall to be extensive but so difficult to order anything but chicken wet then, beyond good!. Which curry was that? The wait staff always knew what we meant??!! So good, which curry was it may I ask? CHICKEN WET ALL THE WAY!!!!

This is my first time eating here. The place is so quirky, you can seat on the floor. I like the atmosphere its very relaxing. We had the Hanging Garden of Ke-Babylon worty P1,500. It has different kebabs likes: lamb, tuna, cheese, beef, duck, gibna. Oh I love it, the char on the kebabs is spot on and the presentation too, not bad. The sauces are amazing, I love the spicy red sauce, its hot and stingy. Keeps me eating for more. My favorite would be the Tuna, love it! Cooked to perfection.

Their turkey curry is a must try. Also, had fun with their Mezze. Almost all of their viands are quite expensive. No,totally expensive. Rice's price just surprised us. Delectable foods but if you just want to save and you are craving for Indian cuisine and other dishes they serve, better find some other place to dine in. Just a small place but we were able to eat and sit comfortably on their carpet matched with throw pillows and vintage furniture. Great experience, anyway. But I will never be going back again because of too pricey dishes. But the foods they served too us were just surprisingly delicious. :)Quite hard to find because the establishment is hidden...

The minute I put the spoonful of Iraqi rice in my mouth, ...
It is one of the more authentic places to eat Middle Eastern or South Asian cuisine, where they don't play down the flavors si as to cater to the usually bland local palate.
The beef was a little tough on some bites (because it was the litid) but the rest were good. Taste-wise, mia-mia! Kwais, yah habibi!
(100%! Very nice!)
The rice I ordered had white sultanas with a hint of saffron 🌱🍃🍂, super like. Its a big cyp of loose long grains, which honestly was half-a-cup more short for me! Lol.
I recommend Zigurrat for novice explorers of ME, So Asian and No African food! The single serving of mixed meat I ordered is actually plenty for one, considering that the rice is already flavorful on its own! Two on a budget can share and order two different kinds of rice (Indian curry should be one). They also have the Arabic version of paella (Php 300-350) so it all in one!
They are generally priced more friendly than other similar establishments including those in the Malate area.
Time to explore people! Don't rush, they're open until 3am! Indoor dining until midnight.

Ordered Mezze, Kebab platter and Beef Massala. Everything was good. Kebabs were very flavourful, curry was tender with a distinct strong taste that you'll definitely crave. Jordanian rice had nuts in it which made it even tastier. I guess the only let down is the indian Chai which was abit bland. Other than that everything was great, service and venue was worth the food prices.

A vegetarian won't run out of choices in Makati thanks to restaurants like Ziggurat. It'd my 3rd visit to Ziggurat. Let's begin.

Ambience: Kinda run down; seems like trying to latch on to a glorious past with so many testimonies strewn around. It's dark, in not a nice way. All the 3 times I have been to Ziggurat, at most 1 table was occupied. Note that I went there at peak dinner time on 2 of the 3 occasions.

Food: Good. No complains about taste, price, variety, portion size, waiting time or presentation. All are fine.

Service: This aspect of the restaurant is a let down. All of the 3 times, I had to bear with a set of rather discourteous and racist (no exaggeration) waiting staff, The taller of the 2 girls deserves particular mention for her rudeness. However white men are not subject to the treatment I was subject to.
The owner (apparently) of the place is usually around and seems like a fine gentleman. I wish he replaces the 2 waitresses with ones better behaved.

Overall: A good place to sample a wide variety of Mediterranean, Mid-eastern, African and South Asian food.

Hidden away in the hidden streets of Burgos is this secret place. Ziggurat has the most extensive menu I've ever seen in a restaurant. If you want Indian, they have it, Lebanese, they have it, Mediterranean, they have it, African they have it. I recommend trying their shawarma, hilbeh, personal kebab sets and their rice. They have a whole area in the menu dedicated to rice. I suggest you try the jordanian or afgan rice. It's truly different from what you've had before.

This restaurant is small. We were about 20 in the group and we easily filled it up. It was like we booked the place. Although there were other empty tables that could probably seat 4 people. The middle, where we were, is an area where there are small tables and you can take off your shoes to sit on pillows. The food was too expensive for me but i guess you pay for the authenticity. Pita with multiple dips were our appetizer and for the main dish we had Hanging Garden of Ke-Babylon which included duck, lamb, beef, shrimp, tuna, etc. The flavor was emphasied with the spices. We also ordered different rice and a couple of bowls of chicken curry. Not an expert in this kind of food but i'll give it a 3.5. Because its very expensive.

Been eating here for 10 years already and the food just doesn't change. 😊 Some might argue that it has lost its spark or needs a renovation badly but with the quality of their food, I think it can carry itself.

In their super extensive menu, I've only ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef Francois and African Wet. Yes for 10 years that's all I have been ordering. Hahah

Always a good idea for late night (or early morning, depends on how you perceive time) eats, I've been coming back to Ziggurat since 2004 or 2005.

Be prepared to go through an extensive menu that offers Arabian, Persian, Mediterranean, African and Indian food! The items I keep on my regular list are the crispy Papadums, the hearty Harira soup, the Lamb Shawarma (although it has been unavailable the past times I've tried to order it), Mixed Vegetables curry and Saffron Rice. For drinks, their Mango Lassi is refreshing and their Tamarind Tea is a great way to calm you and potentially stave off a hangover.

Am rating them a decent score just because I had a good experience three times before. All those memories still matter and I’ll go back to you one day. My friend was craving for Persian and I was game for exotic dishes. We got a really chewy Rabbit Kebab. I read that it’s chewy because it’s old. My teeth still hurts today from that. We also had Ostrich Curry. It was like eating dessert. Too sweet for comfort. It’s Guava ingredient may have been too much.

Servers are always attentive even at 4am. The Curry Francoise Lamb is heavenly. The food also is authentic and sure to get the best experience. Prices are not off as everything's to share, unless ofcourse you are soooo hungry. They've got curry, kebab, rice platters for groups. Bang in the buck! It's not hard to find, it will be the first left corner from P. burgos after Makati Ave. Area is not advisable for mommys and daddys but will be a-okay for kuya hahaha. It's the food you are after and not the sorroundings.

We had such a feast here this afternoon. Since it was our first time, we decided to go all out and just order what we wanted.

We got their Harem Rice Feast (That's 8 different kinds of rice. Goodness) and their Mixed Kebab Special Medium Platter.

The chicken and beef ticka were okay. The sauce brought out its flavors and it went well with the various rice varieties. For the rice selections, I'm speechless. There were a lot, it really depends on your taste if you'll love it or not. Personally, it was a bit overwhelming for me.

The ambiance of the place was nice, we stayed outdoors since the weather was pretty good.

Ive been to many persian kitchens around, very few dissapoints me. In mediterranean cuisine here, the price must match the food. If its cheap, expect a just okay meal. If its fancy, expect a good meal but dont expect it to get you full.

But sometimes, when the stars just align just right, a miracle happens and suddenly youre taken aback what it feels like to be a kid again.

On the upfront. Ziggurat offers a myriad menu. You might mistake the menu for a newspaper for the amount of food choices to read. Its a daunting task, since a mistake in choices could lead to a bad impression. But it wasnt like that. I couldve played russian roulettte on the menu and still come out the winner. There are no losers in this restaurant.

Even Mr.Krabbs would agree they price their food cheap for their incredible taste. 90 php on foreign rice specialties is a steal. You can spend 500 here and feel like you shop lifted.

Quality. Shock your tastebuds when you sink your teeth on their food. The spices are really is there, maybe thats why there are little health issues in the mediterranean?

In conclusion. I only rate 5 or 0 stars in every aspect of my life, Im not guy fieri, Im more of a ramsey myself.

HIDDEN GEM: Indian African Sharing Plates

I had read about Ziggurat a couple of times in the past as well as caught a glimpse of it during random evenings in Burgos but never got around to dining there - until one evening when I with a couple who was up for a random food adventure. We also ended up eating here again two weeks later with ten more people.

Design-wise, the restaurant itself on Durban street and is in front of a confusing one lane yet two-way fork-in-the-road which should be noted if driving there. Its exterior is completely unassuming and rather dim and unnoticeable. It is only the glaring green sign above that catches ones' attention.

They offer seating outside but for bigger groups, inside would be better. They have tables and chairs but also floor seating with low tables, carpeted floors and a large amount of silky throw-pillows. The only issue they have is their ventilation - one air-conditioning unit plus two electric fans was not enough to keep us cool and comfortable for the entire meal.

Service-wise, we received great service both times but the more notable one was during the time we were a group of thirteen. Our server was able to easily estimate how much food would be good for all of us and she was right. The arrival of our orders was fair and efficient.

Food-wise, their menu is the size of a newspaper, I kid you not. They offer so many dishes it is easy to get cross-eyed. Both times we got mostly platters for sharing. Again, there was so much food that I will try to note down the most memorable ones.

Mezze Forte (P650)
For our starter we had a mix of eight different sauces and dips with pita bread. They had an interesting variety of flavors and I was a tasty appetizer before our mains.

Jordanian Rice (P90)
The rice is a bowl which is good for 1-2 people. I have to say this was one of the BEST things I've had - it is Besmati rice with butter, vermicelli and almonds. The grains practically melt in your mouth and the buttered flavor goes well with all the curries, meat and sauces from every dish. (*Other recommended rice: Iranian and Iraqi Saffron rice).

Kebab Platter (P650)
I did not catch the other name of this, but it is a platter that is good for 4-5 people. It has chicken and beef tikka as well as ground beef kuteh with grilled onions, tomatoes and a parsley salad. (*Note: They have a tasty garlic sauce that goes well with this - and a spicy sauce that is VERY hot and capable of making your eyes water if not careful.)

Curry Set (P650)
From what I remember, there was a superb chicken curry, a spicy beef curry as well as couple others such as vegetable, lamb and goat curries as well. Everything was very tasty and flavorful and we had nothing to complain about.

Over-all, I would have to say from both my experiences that this establishment definitely deserves a 5.0 in my book. In terms of value for money, for the food alone everything is worth the price. It actually left me in awe that from my group of 13, none had any negative comments - which is really saying something. I am definitely looking forward to coming back, bringing new people and trying more of the food.

Your tastebuds will thank you for going to this amazing place that serves the best Indian, Pakistani, and African food in the metro. Their menu is overwhelming. So much food choices from different continents. Good thing the servers are trained well. I'm not surprised if they know the entire menu backwards and forwards. Don't know what to order? They're sure to recommend something you will love. Some of Ghaddafi's former cooks are even said to be employed here now! No wonder the food is amazing.

Take off your shoes and sit down on the floor. The cozy restaurant is carpeted inside and could be a potential scene for a pillow fight. There are also tables and chairs both inside and outside for those who prefer to keep their shoes on.

Listen to authentic Indian music as you savor their sumptuous curries and kebabs. Take all the time you need since the restaurant is open 24/7.

During out visit, their curry menu was vastly limited, but the waitress recommended the Lamb Curry François, saying it was their best seller. I loved it. So will you.

Hummus and Vegetable Curry I found lacking taste. It has its flavor but not too strong for Middle Eastern food.

Baklava too sweet! I was scared to eat more.

Another thing I didn't like was going back of what's available and not. Wait staff goes out for everything I asked and this part took 10-15 minutes.

Ambience is okay but dirty carpets and floor made me feel uncomfortable especially we were seated on the floor.

Down the Burgos rabbit hole you get greeted by this unassuming place, called Ziggurat. Nothing fancy upfront, but come inside, get cozy and start to choose your own adventure.

Their menu is extensive. They've got Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Indian, and African food. Their Kebabs are simply the best. But, besides that, most things are pretty damn good as well. I would rate them in my top 5 spots for Mediterranean spots to chow at.

As another Zoman (R. Nelly) has put it: Ziggurat is brilliant in every way. The right blend and portion of spices thrown in are the reasons why I personally really enjoy the food here. After trying a bunch of things on the menu over the last few weeks, I'd have to say that my favorite thing to order is the Premium Souvlaki Platter. All the proteins provided on that plate are top quality and perfectly delicious.

The only item on their menu that didn't really resonate well with me was the Avgolemono Zuppas. It didn't have the bold lemon flavor, or any other flavor, in my opinion. It may have been an off day, but at this point I'm not too inclined to give it another shot, especially now that I've found my 1 item on the menu I'd always go back for: the Premium Souvlaki Platter.

The food came out pretty quickly even though the restaurant was busy and the line was long, and everything smelled amazing! Next time you guys are in Makati or live around here, come stop by this place! No questions, I will be a regular here.

One of the lowest priced items in this restaurant is one of the most surprising culinary concoctions I've ever tasted. Yep, Ziggurat's Egg Curry is just an egg split in half, and served in a thick and flavorful gravy of the Madras curry kind (I think). In the words sang by Adam Levine, I've had it so many times but somehow I want more. I even came here at 7am asking to buy just the Egg Curry to go with no other orders. Staff was visibly irked, but I understand them. A simple dish to describe yet I'm sure it took hours to make this perfect sauce for slathering on your pita or naan. Their grilled meats are also to be commended as they are some of the best tasting meats-on-fire I've had on a platter.

But their curries of astronomical variations deserve a highlight. And that pair of white and hot sauces permanently affixed on their tables? Brilliant. The price? Reasonable. Would've have given this a perfect score if not for the slightly awkward seating on the open-air section. Otherwise, brilliant in every way.

This Persian restaurant takes its name appropriately from the massive temples of Mesopotamia. Interestingly, it is also located at the corner of Tigris and Euphrates streets, so named after the two rivers that mark the cradle of ancient civilization. Oddly hidden in the shadows of Makati City's red light district, Ziggurat serves authentic Middle Eastern dishes, and with them the aroma of spices. The basic starter partners pita bread and hummus (and all the the other related dips) are my default orders: and are likewise my recommendation.

I started to write this review right after we left the restaurant; but the meal was so satisfying, I couldn't concentrate. The hubby and I kept talking about our mixed olive platter, our mixed kebab platter, and even the mixed heritage of some of the dishes we ordered, like the pomodoro that was from Eritrea. So rich but at the same time comforting, it's one of those soups that bring up happy memories with the first sip. We are coming back for that soup again, and just about everything else on the menu.

It's not just the fact that Ziggurat is at the corner of Tigris and Euphrates that calls to mind Indiana Jones and a sense of adventure. The menu allowed us to sample dishes that crisscrossed continents, with the possibility that we could discover a flavor that we couldn't have imagined before. Who knew dipping papadum in pomodoro would be so much fun? Or that bits of beef kufteh stuffed in a whole black olive would go beyond whimsy into unchartered taste territory? At Ziggurat, to limit the imagination would be a lot like believing the world was still flat.

The only let-downs were the falafel, which arrived looking like a corndog, and the kulfi, which was devoid of the promised topping of pistachios and almonds. Adventures though aren't without their bogs and pitfalls, and the one we just had at Ziggurat was just the beginning of the journey.

We finally decided to put our feet down and try this place. Quick story, we planned on eating here already a while back but when Waze finally lead us to our destination, we were so shocked by the location and the whole look of the place that we drove off to try some place else! Honestly, I have no problem with places with that kind of vibe but I just wasn't feeling "red district-y" that night. The reviews though are really impressive so I just had to see for myself!

We decided to sit outside since it was pretty cool. It was around 8 pm on a Wednesday night. We ordered the Palak Paneer, Chicken Green Curry, Ethiopian Beef We't, Lebanese rice, Afghani rice, roti and a plain lassi. Oh and a kebab just cause kebab is luv.

Food came in after a long while but all at once. The Kebab was juicy and flavorful and pretty good but we were more drawn to the Lebanese rice. Wow that rice was amazing!! I could have it on its own! The Palak Paneer, Curry and Beef We't followed.
Palak was tasty but I still prefer Kashmir's. The Green Curry was delightful! but the star was the East African Beef We't. Ohmygosh I could've finished it but I had company. Seriously a must try. Ethiopia, you are doing things right.

Would've given a straight up 5.0 but the location still rubs me the wrong way.

I love, love, love, love, love their curry... whether it be their milk, yellow, red or green.. love, love, love everything. The taste is authentic, yet not that pricey. You're definitely getting your money's worth. My favorite set meal is the Maharajah. It's a must-try for all curry lovers out there!

Located at the sidelines of Makati's red light district is the home of my favorite restaurant, Ziggurat. The menu can be quite overwhelming but please... don't leave without eating the Chicken Tikka Masala. Apologies there are no photos because its was just too damn good we can't help ourselves. 🙇 Its best eaten together on a pita bread with Tabule. Another new favorite is the Beef François. Make sure you order Jasmine Rice for this because the Pita is not enough to handle the rich, creamy sauce of this dish. You might also want to try their red hot tea. I'm not sure what't it really called though but its perfect after a big feast. 😊

This was recommended by Lonely Planet and had been one of the places that I had eyed up when I lived in Manila ten years ago but had never been.

You MUST TRY THIS PLACE.

It's a little off the beaten path but it is a seriously great find! The menu is so ridiculous that its basically the size of a tabloid - not a bad thing as it just means you have to keep returning to try everything on the menu!

My favourites were the afghani rice and the Kashmir curry. I'll have to go back to give it another go, maybe with some friends so i can try a bunch of different stuff. If the menu puts you off guys, just remember - you don't get a feature on Lonely Planet for nothing!

My Favorites:

1. Mixed Kebab Platter: Beef Tikka, Chicken Tikka, and Beef Kufteh served with grilled tomatoes and vegetables. 😄 Best when smothered with their Creamy Garlic and Red Chili sauces. Yumyum! 😋

2. Mezze Forte. Eight exotic mezzes with slices of Arabian Khobiz (Middle Eastern Flat Bread) served in a beautiful winding metal staircase. 😀 Includes Hilbeh, Muhammara, Hummus, Mutabbal, Mahrousa, Taramasalata, Qeema, and Dukkah.

3. Afghani Rice

4. Saffron Rice

5. Chicken Curry

Ziggurat's definitely the go-to place for authentic Middle Eastern and African cuisines in the metro. It was even dubbed once as Makati's Best Kept Secret. 👍 And note that they are open 24/7.

The menu in Ziggurat is so long that one or two visits never do justice to it.

Our review is based on 3 dishes:
Canja soup - which us s Portuguese recipe made with chicken rice. Good soup, hits the spot ... not unlike our own sinigang

Vegetable samosa - really good with the sweet sauce dip

Chicken Tikka - good succulent pieces ..... but very bland.

Need to make many more visits to try even a fraction of their offerings

A hidden gem, that's well worth the money. The interior gives it an authentic feel (big pillows on the floor, lowered tables, tall Hookas, gilded accents, silk draping, etc). Granted, I don't visit it nearly as often as I'd like to, but when I do, I end up ordering anything from their ethopian menu to their middle eastern cuisine + apple flavored Hooka. Oh! And if you like yoghurt drinks, I highly recommemd their authentic lassy. Yumm

I always find comfort in this restaurant.Even if half of the menu is not available most of the time,I still love goong back to this place.First, the garlic sauce and chili sauce is still as good when I went here since day 1.Second,the consistency of the food we order has been the same. And third, throughout the years their service has dramatically improved. The servers now are alert and know their food.

There are staple dishes that I always order here. The samosas are really good here. The mezze forte which is composed of 8 dips with bread.I like to order a couple of papadoms for a sudden rush of texture while waiting for all the main courses.Of course, the kuftehs and the barbeque. The curries but I alwaysngo for tue Ethiopian Beef W'et which is stewed beef with strong spices like cloves, star anise etc served with an injera or a light supple bread which is similar to the texture of puto.they have a lot of rice dishes which I've tried but I always go for the Basmati rice with butter. The honey beer and chili infused beer is lovely!

The best part is,the place is open round the clock so whenever a craving of Indian or middle eastern food arises. It is always a go to place.

It's just proper that a middle eastern restaurant be at the corner of Tigris St., and the other corner I seem to recall, was once called Euphrates St. I could be wrong though. Be prepared to sit on the floor, and to go through a rather long menu. It took me a while to figure out what to order, and when I did, I ended up ordering several rice dishes because the servings were small. Lots of vegetarian options here. You'll never run out, that's for sure. I've even ordered take out several times, and I still have a long way to go. Next time, I want to see if their veg kebabs are any good. And maybe I'll try a few of their sweets and other rice dishes while I'm at it. Oh, and the food's good, by the way.

Ziggurat was pretty good. My girlfriend and I came in with big expectations but we did not leave unsatisfied.

The ambiance was rather bad as the pillows were old and looked dirty, they really need to modernize the place, in my opinion, just because the place is Indian/African inspired doesn't mean it has to look like a harem.

The food was really good, I'm not going to say it was excellent but it was pretty up there. Yes, the menu was rather extensive and I have a hard time imagining how a chef has the ingredients to pull off a large menu like that. My advice is: when you see a menu like this you've got to order the things you know will be good and then order one exotic dish. (Or just ask your server what the bestsellers are)

What we had -
A soup trio: Morrocan Canja, Eritrean Injera Mirek, Indian Mulligatawny (we wanted to get a small taste of everything)
A small kebab platter
Tabouleh with some pita
Chicken butter marsala curry
Afghan Rice
As for the exotic dish, we had the Ethiopian Beef We't (The beef was very good and tender. Mix the beef with the crepe-like pastry and the egg to balance out the strong flavor of the stew! I really wanted the ox tripe or ostrich curry but my girlfriend isn't as adventurous as me)

Pocket damage was around php1500 (which is usually what we spend when we eat out in Manila).
Overall: Went in hungry and angry, came out happy. Go in with an open tummy, open wallet and open palate!

If you're craving for delicious, authentic Middle Eastern grub, then Ziggurat is the place to be. I always drop by this place whenever I go to Manila. For appetizers, their freshly made Pita Bread with Mutabbal and Hummus Dips are among the bestsellers. Ask for extra garlic and green spicy sauce to add extra zing to the dips. They serve the best Mixed Kebabs Platter and their Scallop Curry is also to die for. My personal rice platter favorites are the Jordanian Rice (loaded with slivers of almonds) and the Arabian Chickpea Rice. At the end of the meal, you'll probably look for something sweet or you might want to have a beer to wash down the meal. Then I suggest that you get the best of both worlds by ordering their homebrewed Honey Beer. I strongly recommend that you guys drop by Ziggurat. I can assure you that your tastebuds won't be disappointed. :)

Friday night dinner. Something special but not over the top. Ziggurat. Wow.

We've been planning to eat here several times already but because of traffic and the dismal 4g signal of the "go lang ng go" network (we needed waze to bring us there! :D), we always had to postpone our visit.

We ordered several dishes to share: Mezzo Mezze, Personal Platter Kebab, Biryani Beef, extra Arabian Khobiz to finish our dips, and Baklava for dessert. All the food tasted authentic, well-seasoned, and were freshly prepared.
Mezzo Mezze. Four favorite mezzes (Humus, Mutabbal, Jazar, Mahroussa) and three pieces of Khobiz. Humus is pounded garbanzo beans, Mutabbal is hand-chopped grilled eggplant, Jazar is spiced carrot puree, and Mahroussa is Arabian fava bean puree. My favorite was the Mutabbal, followed by the Mahroussa. I really didn't like the Jazar. It was a bit sweet and i didn't like it as a dip in for the khobiz. BFF liked everything though. We both enjoyed this plate so much that we needed to order more khobiz!
Personal Platter Kebab. Beef and chicken tikkah with beef kufteh served with grilled vegetables. We agreed that the chicken was really, really good. The beef kufteh...not so much. The beef tikkah was good as well.
Biryani Beef. Special Indian layered rice dish sauteed in butter and selected spices. An Indian version of paella with beef. The best dish of the night. The rice was so tasty and really good. The beef was tender and flavorful. I could eat a whole serving kn my own, i think. Definitely a must try. And will definitely order this again next time, maybe order the chicken or lamb. :)
Arabian Khobiz. Basic flat bread of the Middle East. I liked their bread. Thin enough for dipping. What i liked best was the fact that they serve it in triabgular pieces sk you won't have to tear it apart when dipping.
Baklava. Traditional Mediterranean dessert made with phylo pastry, honey, walnuts and almonds. BFF liked this dish so much. I did too but im not really a fan of cinnamon, which was the dominant spice used in the dish. We originally wanted the a la mode version, too bad they didn't have ice cream the other night.

The interior was well decorated. Middle East trinkets, jars and lamps all around. They even had an area where you can sit and dine on the floor with pillows so you'd be comfortable. They also have an outdoor dining area for smoking customers (thank God because i don't like smelling smoke). The restroom is also clean. The servers were quick, courteous and pleasant. Prices were a little bit on the high side though, so we'll reserve this place for special occasions or when we crave for Mediterranean food.

Overall, id give this place a 4.5/5.0. Ziggurat made me fall in love with Middle Eastern dishes. Will definite be back!

One of Makati's best-kept secrets!

From the outside, it is an unassuming sight but once you step inside the vicinity, the vibe takes a different turn. You choose whether you get the alfresco treatment, or go inside the air conditioned area and sit in the floor, cross-legged style, or take a seat in one of their few tables. Whatever you choose, it does not have a significant bearing on the entire experience as their food is the main lead.

Here is what we had:
1. Jordanian Rice ( premium Basmati, butter, vermicelli, and almonds)
2. Iraqi Saffron Rice (Basmati, butter, cumin, almonds & saffron strands)
3. Afghani Rice (premium Basmati rice, butter, parsley and cilantro)
4. Medium Kebab Platter (consisting of chicken tikka, beef tikka, and a choice of beef, chicken, or fish kufteh served with grilled vegetables). All were cooked tenderly, still juicy and very tasty. The parsley salad was something else. It triggered something in me. Haha!
5. Hummus (Ponded garbanzo beans with tahini) and Mutabbal (Hand-chopped grilled eggplant with tahini) with traditional bread
6. Arabian Salad (Garden fresh vegetables with special Arabic dressing). A different taste but delightful still to the tastebuds.
7. Arabian Chickpea Salad (Special salad of chickpeas simmered in olive oil, herbs & lemon)
8. Chicken Red Curry
9. Baklava (a traditional Mediterranean dessert made with phylo pastry, honey, walnuts and almonds). definitely something that I used to watch only in foreign cooking shows on cable TV. So happy to have tried it!

For the drinks, we had:
1. Indian Chilli Beer. Spicy tanginess!
2. Cameroonian Mango Shandy. Whatta kick for a mango juice!

3. African Ginger Beer. Just like our Salabat, but with an alcoholic taste.

Overall take on this place: A must visit and must-try! The whole experience is so worth it. Though my legs were feeling nothing after that cross-legged, or 1-sided, seating, I will still definitely come here in the near future to have the same experience like my first time here. =)

So it was date night and we decided to try something new. I kept thinking this must be good but when I arrived it's in Poblacion very near where the action is and when we enter it was mostly floor seating.

Having had a glass of Borrollo at home, I was in a bit of an adventurous mood. So we ordered a wide spread and it was some of the most flavorful and spicy food here in Manila. The Roti went well with our Mahroussa as we started the evening with a bottle of Sauvignon blanc which was chilled. That's a nice touch considering most restaurants in makati are ill prepared in terms of wine.

Then we had the paneer which was grilled to perfection and the beef kuftah was equally nice and tender. The highlight was the afghani rice with the curry francoise which was a great combo.

The only miss for the evening was the tandoori. It lacked authenticity and flavor.

All in all a great experience but not for those who needs proper sitting as you will be floored most likely. However I was floored by the food and would definitely be returning.

One of my favourite places to eat when in makati. I really love the eccentric look of this restaurant. I'm not a spice person but this is one place where spicy food is a good thing for me. Their hummus is something to look forward to and their dessert, gulab jammun, is just pure heaven. We even plan on coming back just to taste gulab jammun again. The menu can be overwhelming, i suggest researching for their bestsellers before visiting the place. Or you can ask the staff for their recommendations, they would gladly accommodate you.

The appeal of this place is in the role-playing experience you get when you're there.

You can sit on the Persian carpet ladened floor with your fellow sheikhs with sheesha/hooka on hand conversing over Turkish coffee on where to spend all your oil money; or you can have a feast fit for a prince with a selection that is an epitome of excess with probably over a hundred items to choose from, everything Arabic/Indian/African you can think of including the servant who pours water over your hands to clean them (I would imagine as their version of a sink).

I've only had a few food items but the ones I've had was pretty good. I specially like their Gambas Ziggurat, a take on a Spanish classic, which is your typical gambas but with cumin. Also their kebabs are tasty and is good for sharing.

Definitely a place I would suggest people to frequent. There's always somewhere/something to explore while you're there.

Ziggurat is my absolute favorite restaurant here in Metro Manila. I dont know, I think the character of this place adds to its odd Charm. Located in an alley close to Burgos Avenue in makati, which is notoriously known as the red light district, if you choose to eat outside it is not impossible for you to witness some intense entertainment from the street walkers.

If you're not an obsessed people watcher like me though, this place still is definitely worth checking out. Lonely planet had once dubbed this restaurant as makati's best kept secret... And it really is! There's literally a world of flavors waiting for you here, as they offer the best of African, Mediterranean, and Indian cuisine this side of town.

With an extensive menu that fits nothing less than a full page of newspaper, I'm not kidding their menu is the size of a newspaper, it's easy to get intimidated if not frustrated on your first visit. Don't let this supp you from diving in! They have the best and most authentic curries and African stews in the city!

If you want to make life easy though, here are some recommendations:

Starters/snacks- try the samosas with the honey Ginger dip or the cheesy goodness that is their moussaka

Entrees- yellow Bengal chicken curry (adjust the spice level to your preference or the white salmon curry

Sides- Iraqi, Iranian or Jordanian Rice is a new take on the regular basmati!

How obvious is it that I love this place? Alright here are some insider tips - don't dare to make anything super spicy unless you can eat fire, and the same applies to the hotsauce. Also, their garlic sauce goes well with everything. On a honest note though, their wraps are not the best I've had out there so go with the stews and curries.

Happy eating!
