Dined here a couple of months back and I really enjoyed all the food that we ordered! Super reasonable prices and the servings are quite big.

We ordered the Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Malaysian Chicken Curry, fried spring rolls, Chicken Satay, and fried chicken (not in photos). My personal favorites are the Pad See Ew and Malaysian Chicken Curry. I would go back for these dishes!

Crying Tiger is one of the restaurants in Poblacion, Makati, that I’d go back to.  As you know, my love for Asian food is beyond measure. Here, I can get authentic flavors without breaking my bank.  They have a flavorful taste of Asian dishes that are friendly on the budget without compromising its taste.

- its really like the outlets in Thailand, nothing fancy, very simple, no fancy plates but the food is amazing
- quick service

Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Generally, i love all of them. There were just that were too spicy for my taste
- I particularly like their pad thai. It’s like the one I’ve tasted when I went to Thailand. I also like the bangkok quail eggs, its my first time to try something like this. Their thai friend chicken is soooo good and pairs perfectly with their fried rice. Chicken satay is also a must try.
- I like their thai iced tea. Its not the commercialized type. It’s legit Thai iced tea

Don’t judge a book by its cover— this one is worth a try!

In the Philippines it's quite difficult to find an authentic tasting Thai food especially in the malls or even elsewhere, usually they put more focus on the embellishments , ornaments and ambiance making it "cultured" or inorganic thus sacrificing the authentic taste of the cuisine it represents.

As a frequent visitor of the Southeast Asian region,I can't help but to search for the original tastes I've encountered during my journeys in Thailand , Malaysia, Indonesia ,SG et Al.Unfortunately here in Manila they fused it with the local Filipino touch.

Crying Tiger Street Kitchen epitomizes the feel ,the flavors of Southeast Asia most specifically Thai cuisine yet also offers the colorful gastromic culture of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

I was invited to be a part of degustation of the dishes that they're offering, the restaurant was very gracious and generous host to serve us the following dishes:

*PadThai- their version of this noodle dish was inspired from a popular Pad Thai place in Bangkok, they used woon sen noodles with the usual veggies and proteins in it enveloped with scrambled egg,not the usual Pad Thai served in Manila.Perfect if you will add some traditional Thai condiments like pickled chili, some sugar, fish sauce, lime and pepper flakes.

*Gaitod Fried Chicken - traditional Thai style chicken topped with crispy fried shallots.Order the family size bunch which is perfect for barkada or family.

*Mooping -Thai Pork BBQ, lovely marinade on pork, nice texture I like that notes of roasted caramel on every bite, how they slices the pork into flat cutlets ,great with some of your favorite brew and it's priced reasonably at PHP35 per skewer .Perfect Thai pulutan or even paired with hot steamed rice.

*SomTam- the papaya salad , just the way I make it at home and balance of the taste of the lime with the eathyness of the string beans and peanuts merges very well, they made it more appealing with the salted egg.

*Khao Pad Goong- Thai Shrimp Fried Rice ,a crowd favorite you can eat it on its own even without the accompaniment if other dishes , a complete meal.

*MeeGoreng- basically a noodle dish in Southeast Asia have multiple variants from the countries who claim it as their own national dish.I like how they balanced the flavors making it nearly as no touch of Pinoy at all.

*Chicken Satay - chicken breast cut and skewered perfectly marinated with turmeric and peanut sauce ,works well with the peanut dip.

*Pakboong Fai Daeng- Morning Glory in Garlic a simple stir fried vegetable Asian dish ,very popular in the tropical Southeast Asian region.

*Khao Nian Mamuang- Mango Sticky Rice, ubiquitous in Thailand but the exceptional quality of Philippine mango and the replication of the sticky rice with sesame seeds on top drizzled with that warm coconut cream make it more decadent.

*Khao Nuk Kinta Bangkok Quail Eggs ,fried quail Eggs with their secret Thai dip.

*Gai Pad KraPow Thai basil chicken- the showstopper it brought me back to Thailand ,spot on basil taste, the texture of the chicken superb, flavors of Siam manifested in every bite, the kick from the birds eye chili was on the mark. Small details like how they cooked the sunny side up egg is very conventional Thai flair ,toasty and crisp on the underside. Those minute details means a lot and very impressive.

*Phanang Curry- love that
thick, salty and sweet, with a nutty peanut flavor. It's very distinct, different from the Pinoy curry you're used to,also not the same as it's Indian counterpart. You can notice the notes and aroma of the galangal upon reaching the palate.Heat scale 3.5/5 which is for me the right level of spiciness.

Thai Milktea - thumbs up!

Ambiance is not fancy which is a big plus for me ,if you've been to some of our Southeast Asian neighbors you will understand what I meant.Unpretensious good food ,reasonably priced ,well researched ingredients and process of cooking.I checked some of the ingredients and condiments they used and they are sourced from the country from which their cuisine or theme represented.

For the rating I can give this a 4.6/5 but it seems that Crying Tiger is a jewel in Poblacion ,Makati so I'll give a generous 5.Crying Tiger did made me smile instead of making me cry in search for that authentic unadulterated Southeast Asia taste.

Thanks to Crying Tiger Street Kitchen and The Pat kid inside for this wonderful invite.

Crying Tiger is hailed as one of the best Thai restaurants in Makati, as said by my bff. I've had my Thai food experience last week, and I can definitely say this one have completely distinct taste and way of cooking from one another.

Again, I still can't judge Thai cuisine as a whole since I've never been to Thailand but my review is based on my likes, dislikes and what my palate "knows".

For the appetizers, Pak Boong Fai Daeng (Morning Glory with Garlic), Som Tam (Thai Green Papaya Salad), and Khai Nuk Kinta (Bangkok Quail Eggs). They're mostly spiced veggies (except for the quail eggs), and if you're not used to Spicy Thai Food-- you'll find it extremely spicy (like me).

For the carbs, Pad Thai, Mee Goreng (Spicy Seafood Noodles), and Khao Pad Goong (Thai Shrimp Fried Rice). The best Mee Goreng I ever had. their Shrimp Fried Rice is soooo GOOOOD. Good for 2-3pax and very worth the penny! And for the mains, 8pcs of Gai Tod (Thai Fried Chicken), Moo Ping (Thai Pork Barbecue), Chicken Satay, Gai Pad Ka Prao (Basil Chicken), and Panang Curry (Red Pork Curry). The Red Pork Curry is undeniably good, but if the spice can be toned down, I'd love it! The barbecues are also delish.

For the dessert, the Khao Nian Mamuang (Thai Sticky Rice with Mango) is unexpectedly sweet (but on the good side). Much better than the last one I had.

Food is outstanding! I love all the food that we've and the food is reasonably priced. I love the fact that we can have an authentic Thai food without spending too much. It's a no frills, authentic and reasonably priced restaurant for me. I highly recommend their pad thai, chicken satay and mee goreng. The chicken satay was superb - juicy, tender and flavorful. In fact, I don't even have to use the sauce as it was already flavorful on its own. Their mee goreng was really good, it has hint of spiciness for the kick but is tolerable. Flavorful as well and I can't help getting another spoonful after another. I also recommend their thai milk tea with boba. It's really good, not too sweet, and creamy but you can still taste the tea. Superb!

We had a couple of items, the chicken satay and the grilled squid; pad thai, the beef rendang, pork omelette, crab fried rice, and the mango with sticky rice. The chicken satay and the grilled calamari were both very nice, the chicken satay was cooked well, it wasn't dry or stringy like other places. The squid was cooked pretty perfectly, it was still nice and soft, and their sauce was great. The pad thai and the beef rendang were both just okay, they don't really stand out that much. The pork omelette was good, however I like it because it was a well fried omelette. I could not find much if any pork at all in it. And the same goes with the crab fried rice, I mean it tasted fine, but you can barely find the crab if you could at all. The mango with sticky rice tasted quite nice, though the rice is a bit heavy. We also availed of their zomato gold 2+2 drinks, and got the strawberry shake. It was much better than I anticipated.

I think people that have gone here previously feel like this was a good night for Crying Tiger, like they were not as impressed before, but so far I find it pretty okay.

Used my Zomato Gold (2+2 drinks) here last Saturday. Ordered Mojitos and the Welcome Drink. The food and drinks are cheap. As a fan of Mojito, I found it to be so-so, could be improved -- it wasn't as refreshing but it definitely gave me a buzz (there's more alcohol on it, I guess)! Cool and chill place to hang out if you want Thai food and far from the usual loud Poblacion!

Good food at affordable prices.

Local Beers at Php60 .... Bucket of 6 beers for around Php320.

Great street vibe that's fun and so Bangkok.

Crying Tiger is a must go-to place in the Poblacion area. This makes me miss the street food ambience in Bangkok's Silom area.

I would recommend the Asian Grilled Calamari and the Pad Thai.

The chicken satay didn't have that authentic taste though.

Never thought I'd put "enjoy, tofu and delicious" in one sentence but Crying Tiger's rendition of Black Pepper Tofu over Jasmine Rice (P275) did just that. It was a delicious tofu dish I really enjoyed!

The flavors took me back to Singapore where you can experience hawker stalls like in Hong Lim where it is totally acceptable to "chok" or reserve a table by placing a packet of tissues since it could really get crowded during meal times.

Though Malay in character, the dish must have been cooked in high heat wok with dark soya sauce that brings out sweet, salty and savory. Garnished and cooked with black pepper, it provides added heat. Chinese chives and wantsuy contribute to its flavor layering with a bit of earthy and bitter. Overall, good vegetarian dish. It's amazing how expanded the choices now could be if you decide to go meatless.

Legit Thai street food experience that will take you back to Khao San or Silom. Helps that their weekday crowd are Poblacion backpackers. Their flavorful pad thai is the B E S T in Manila; better than expensive Thai restaurants. Value-for-money and delicious. 4/5, would frequently visit if only parking wasn't a problem and staff are not as snarky and unwelcoming.

The place is a little small so you really have to be there early or you’ll have to queue for table space especially on Friday nights. We availed their 2+2 drinks and we had 2 margaritas and 2 mojitos. Not bad, considering that they priced their drinks way cheaper compared to the other places here in Poblacion. Also, they use paper straws so this place instantly won my heart! I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

When it comes to Thai cuisine, most especially their street food. I noticed that they enjoy flavors and some of food are a bit oily to say the least. But these are distinct flavors that I actually enjoy. I can’t leave Thailand without ordering Pad Thai or Som Tom their green papaya salad.

It was thrilling to find out that there’s an establishment in Poblacion that serves authentic Thai cuisine. They owners visited Thailand several times to get the right ingredients and tastes for their dishes that makes it as authentic as they can.

They had the dishes I normally enjoy in Thailand. Their dishes are affordable ranging from Php 50 (grilled satay tofu skewer) to Php 550 (Moo Krob) Thai fried fish that serves 3-4 people. I wouldn’t mind going back to this place for sure.

This is one of the food places I truly enjoyed in Poblacion. The mee goreng was my most favorite among what we ordered. Their somtam is good, but I think it could’ve been better if they increase the amount of papaya. Crispy tofu was okay, so as the shrimp fried rice. We also order the steak, but weren’t very satisfied because the meat wasn’t tender. Despite that, I think it was well seasoned. Their serving is generous! However, their service is unsatisfactory. It takes a long time for their staff to notice you that you’re calling them. Overall, am happy with the food but not the service. If you plan to go there, parking is a challenge because the space is limited (street parking).

Crying Tiger has been the buzz word for Poblacion. Located near the A.Venue Mall, along small side street. Blink and you might miss this small al fresco Restaurant. It is designed just like the Hole in the Wall diners found in most South East Asian cities, Crying Tiger is a wonder and a gem in the rough kind of discovery. We were served the following specialties:

Mee Goreng - a nicely done noodle dish, packed with vegetables and meat. Had a bit of Heat but not too spicy.

Pad Thai - served traditionally with fine rice noodles, unlike the ones commonly served with flat noodles. It was savory, and the enveloped the noodle dish nicely. Squeeze some lime for that sour freshness.

Thai Fried Chicken - huge bone-in Chicken pieces Fried to perfection. Had that nice crunch care of the thin yet flavorful potato rice flour.

Chicken Satay - grilled Chicken meat with just the right nutty flavor.

Som Tam (Thai Green Papaya Salad) - refreshing Salad perfect with each bite of the Thai Fried Chicken. Thinly julienned Papaya makes it more appealing to eat. The Salted Egg on top added a nice crumbly, grainy flavor.

MooPing (Thai Pork BBQ) - soft, flavorful pork skewers. Makes me want to ask for white rice.

They open late in the afternoon because the Manila Heat can be punishing. Street parking is available but very limited. Recommended.

Crying Tiger Street Kitchen is one of Poblacion’s ever favorite hole-in-the-wall Southeast Asian cuisine restaurants that will take you back to the street market food stalls of Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. A bit hidden on P. Guanzon, the street directly facing the frontside of A.Venue Mall, this restaurant is widely known among the neighborhood, but could be easily located on an online map.

Dining was an easy breezy as the dishes are described in the updated menu spread with photos of their best-selling items. We had their famous Mee Goreng, Beef Rendang, and Thai Iced Tea.

Our food was served in less than 15 minutes, considered fast for table-service restaurants. Calling the attention of the service crew, asking for recommendations, and ordering were all easy. Most service crews were welcoming, though we encountered one who just grabbed the menu spread and the tissue rack off our table when we were still dining. We didn’t mind, but it could have been much more courteous if she spoke with us and asked for permission, as we were still eating. Also, the music could have been much softer to preserve the relaxing vibe, because it was hard to hear my companions when we were chatting, to the point that we had to shout at each other.

Their Mee Goreng was full of ingredients and a plate could serve up to two to three people—but less in seafood. I mean, what’s a “spicy seafood noodles” without much spice and just a few pieces of seafood? It was flavorful and a bit on the sweet-spicy side, may be catering to Filipino tongues that are used to the sweet palette.

Beef Rendang, their take on Malaysia’s spicy beef curry, was an instant favorite. The meat in the dish generously spicy and soft that it tasted like it was braised slowly and carefully. With rice, the dish can only serve and would leave you wishing you’d have more.

The Thai Iced Tea was the spice quencher, if it suddenly feels hot when eating both the Mee Goreng and the Beef Rendang.

Crying Tiger is definitely a must-visit in the area if you crave for Southeast Asian dishes, but make sure to get a table before groups go in around dinnertime as it gets full with avid patrons.

We ordered the Char Siu Pork plate, Beef Rendang and I believe some crispy kangong and some tasty chicken (the name of the dish which I forgot, just go check the menu). For drinks we started with mojitos then went on to individual beers, plus an additional order of Moo Ping. Food was great, prices were good too. The atmosphere was really cool, and of course very millennial, it being Poblacion on a Friday night. (But I won't hold it against them!) It being January, the temperature wasn't hot either. Definitely recommended for the cooler months! Have to check it out in summer as well, to be fair.

I almost got lost finding my way to Crying Tiger. It’s a good thing my friend gave me specific directions on how to get there. It’s a few steps away from Aberdeen Court, try to look for the al fresco area of Crying Tiger so it’s easier for you.

My friends ordered a lot but I only remember three dishes - Thai Basil Chicken (Gai Pad Ka Prao), Char Siu Pork Rice and Thai Stir Fried Noodles with Chicken (Pad See Ew). The basil chicken was good. It was cut into very small pieces, like ground chicken, making it easy to munch on. This is probably one of the notable non-spicy dishes in the Thai cuisine that I’d order always. The char siu pork rice was so-so. The pork was on the chewy side and its sauce has a very overwhelming taste. For the stir fried noodles, it’s now my new go-to Thai dish. I liked how it has more flavor and has thicker noodles than pad thai. I liked how every ingredient (sauce, chicken, noodles) complements each other.
For my drink, I got a glass of Mojito. Crying Tiger’s version is on the minty side and has a light alcohol taste.

It used to be a good place for your quick Thai craving fix but now, I think that the quality has changed.

Most of the items on the menu are unavailable. The peanut sauce is not as good as it was before. And now, the vibe has changed. The atmosphere was hmmm... Sad.

We ordered a lot and finished most of it except for the pork barbecue. It was full of fat trimmings and generally, too salty. But overall, I applaud the staff for being attentive and charming.

If I lived closer I’d probably rank this place as my “home bar” where you can have good food, and beer and still be affordable. I know it’s a downer for some that this place isn’t airconditioned but somehow that’s the charm too.

⭕️ This is for a relaxed don’t-want-to-dress-up evening with friends or housemates

❌ Though the best pad thais are found on the streets of Thailand and this place is def street, this is not the best place for a pad thai if you’re looking for authenticity.

Moo Ping ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We always get this when we visit

Pad thai ❤️❤️❤️🖤🖤
not too legit, more for the Filipino taste buds

The best! I lived in bkk for 4 yrs. This is so far the nearest to the authentic taste of pad see ew and pad krapow gai. Will always go back. Very satisfied!

Location & Directions
The street faces the A Venue entrance with Domino's Pizza and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. (on foot) From "A Venue", cross Makati Ave, walk along Guanzon, and you'll see the restaurant on your left.

Restaurant
I expected it to be warm since it's hole-in-the-wall but it's kinda breezy during the evening, making our stay relaxing. The dine-in space is limited with a few seats outside but they have a bar, high chairs and all.

Morning Glory with Garlic
This one is typical veggies. It's okay to have for mixing things up but I won't really look for it.

Thai Basil Chicken
We liked it enough to get an extra order. We shared but each order is already a meal for one person.

Thai Stir Fried Glass Noodles
This is their Pad Thai. It's good but not the best I've had just yet.

Service
It was quick up to taking care of the bill.

Cheap and cheerful place with great food and nice atmosphere. Same owner as Chupacabra but slightly better :) the space is well ventilated, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
Highly recommend!

I went here at around 5:30pm yesterday (Sunday) and I was the only customer at that time but people started coming at 6pm.

What I ordered:

Thai fried chicken - 4/5. The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

Chicken satay - 4.5/5. It was really flavorful and the peanut sauce was very good.

Pad Thai woon sen - 4.5/5. This one is good for 2-3 persons. It has shrimps, tofu and other vegetables inside. The glass noodles was inside the egg omelette. I also liked this one.

Ambiance - 3/5
Cleanliness - 3.5/5
Customer service - 3.5/5
Food - 4.5/5
Value - 4.5/5

I will definitely go back here again.

I have heard good words about Crying Tiger and finally, we were able to dine!

1: It's a bit hard to find it, most especially when you're just by your feet.
2: I pictured Crying Tiger as a fancy looking place. I was wrong. It is homey and very comfortable.
3: It is hot, but not as hot as El Chupacabra/Señor
4: They do not have service water, just bottled water.

We tried Crying Tiger's Steak - Suea Rong Hai, Beef Rendang (Spicy Beef Curry), and Moo Ping (Thai Pork BBQ).

I have to say, everything was AMAZING. You have to try it for yourself to really know what's going on with their food 😋

PS: Try Shirley Temple! 😉

A hidden gem in Makati, not located in the busy and noisy area of Poblacion but still easily accessible.
I love the ambiance, the vibe they have is really laid back while still offering an undeniable quality of food.
Real thai comfort food, not too fancy, everything I tried there was interesting on its own.
A perfect place for a drink with friends !

It's a really good surprise to find this restaurant. The waiters are smiling and efficient, the food is good but it's Thai rice! Nice atmosphere

Good food! Their Chicken Satay were amazing. I would rate it 4.5.

We tried the classic margarita on pitcher too and it's really good, but might be a bit strong to others who aren't fond of hard liquor...

Big servings for their Pad thai, I would say it can be for 2-3 person and 2 servings for the Mee Goreng, Prices are affordable.

I would definitely try their rice meals next time.
